She's always gotten comments like this, but it got really bad at the start of S5 after Wanted when Steven got back from Homeworld. Now, Dewey Wins sucked so I ain't making excuses for that, but the "she's using Steven" people came out of the woodwork shitting on her for having a backbone and calling out Steven for breaking the promise he made to her about always fighting together (back in Season 2). They would've lost as Stevonnie since Aquamarine is OP as fuck, but that's not really the point. Steven let his martyr syndrome get the better of him, chose to give himself up and basically left everyone to think he was dead. Worst than that, he didn't even save everyone since Lars got left behind and wound up dying saving the Off Colors. It all worked out in the end, but all Steven had to do was say "Yeah what I did was necessary to save you all but I'm sorry I worried you". Guess they wanted to show kids how arguments can get out of hand and that no one's really to blame fully (since Connie and Steven both had good points) but waiting six months for that I can see why people would be annoyed. It's a bad excuse to make shit up about a character though, just makes you look petty.

Yes connie had a bit of an attachment issue with steven to the point where she straight up blocked him her life for just a little bit, out of context she was mad at steven, in context she was mad at herself for not being there when Steven really needed her. Connie is using Steven as much as Steven is using Connie, at least that's how I interpret it. No one on the show is perfect, Sugar and Ian both said that. They thought to themselves that if they can show that even children like Steven and Connie have as much flaws and features then it would make them appear more human. Which I find this ironic when it came time to 'fight' White Diamond because she was shown that she had a flaw, and that flaw was emotion, which Steven made her learn that it's not a flaw, but rather a wonderful feature, one that she had been denying herself for thousands of years.

tl;dr Connie and Steven are just kids that (try) to act like normal kids whilst also stopping a galactic conquest with the power of friendship and happiness.... I feel like I've seen this before
