I just started reading Captain Marvel comics because of the Shazam movie

Probably because comic books were a new medium, superheroes were a new concept (or rather a new iteration of an old concept) and all the "rules" we're all familiar with didn't exist yet, and continuity wasn't really concrete yet, so writers and artists alike were free to experiment.

Most of it is actually on the public domain sites.

The bad news: WB recently asked the public domain sites to take down a lot of Captain Marvel stuff because they weren't actually PD. This includes the final chapter of Monster Society.

The good news: They didn't ask them to take down other books, like the first appearance of Captain Marvel, or the rest of the chapters of Monster Society, which means either they may have indirectly confirmed they're PD.

Yeah that's the part I find weird. Unless they do have plans to do that (because of the Shazam reception) and that's why they're suddenly asking the PD sites to take the non-PD comics down. Cause those have been up for a decade without any notice from WB until now.
