not sure why they even made this movie. just to keep the rights?
Ouch.
>Projected $15-20mil
>Actuals down to $12mil
Man, that's rough.
>Getting beat by 'Madea's Freaky Friday'
ouch
>comcis became shit
>movie is complete shit
>mignola is shit now
Yay everything i enjoy is slowly becoming corrupted and dying. Wooooo...
Wow, Shazam! sure is making a lot of money for a box office flop.
DKeks BTFO
How will the ever recover? #MakeMineMarvel
I dont even understand this shitpost, what does Hellboy have to do with Marvel?
>a lot
>barely made back its production and still needs to cover the advertising budget
You need to remember studio only get around 50-60% of the box office. Production budget was around 80 million-100 million. And then there is a large advertising separate from that. Shazam is not a box office success story.
Hellboy was never good.
Worst fanbase.
It just reached 260 million worldwide, is already on the breaking even point.
>Losing to Little, another ripoff made by someone incapable of making original content
Jesus christ
But you also have to consider the actual size of the ad budget. The 'almost as much as the production budget' myth was started because of the ridiculous marketing pushes for BvS and The Last Airbender. WB hasn't blown anything close to that on advertising since they realized they can't just show up and print money with cape movies.
Goddamn Shazam will struggle with Solo and Alita, if it wasn't for the low budget. Looks like Hellboy will be the actual flop though. Everything between that mcu sandwich is fucked.

>Per Box Office Pro, the movie is expected to gross $16.8 million domestically in the first three days, though the outlet notes it could possibly go as high as $20 million if things break right. Either of those figures would be the worst debut for a Hellboy movie; the 2004 original opened with $23.1 million, while its 2008 sequel earned $34.5 million opening weekend. The reboot is projected to finish below reigning champ Shazam on the charts.
>Estimated opening was 17-20 million
>barely scratched 12
>made half of what Hellboy 1 did, and a third of what Hellboy 2 did
>shit reviews mean poor word of mouth
>sunday was already a significant dropoff
Holy shit this is going to be a giant massive fucking bomb isnt it?
I just don't understand what people see in Hellboy.
DCucks can't make fun of Marvel's grossing so they have to act like anything that isn't DC is Marvel.
>Reboot Hellboy because you dont want to give Del toro a budget
>make it even more lighthearted and quippy then the Del Toro movies
>original comic fans lose interest
>recast everyone
>Del Toro lose interest
>now there is no core audience for the movie to build on
GG hollywood
>original movie’s Bruttenholm was so good it made Mignola regret killing him off so early and convinced him to write some stories about him in his youth
>death scene was extremely well executed
>reboot Bruttenholm is an incredibly shitty father
>appears as a tendril turd
Well Solo is as huge a bomb as it is because all the other Star Wars movies made a billion and Han Solo is by far one of the more popular characters everyone knows. Shazam is the complete opposite of that.
Damn, Little and Shazam, both kinda based off Big, weird
Well the budget was 50mil initially though who knows what reshoots pushed it up to
A Hellboy 3 by Del Toro would have needed a higher budget but would have made more of a profit than this garbage. The movie's failure is what Mike deserves for being greedy.
Oh ladderbro.....XD
More like Big is based off Shazam but I get your point
>lobster Johnson phases through Hellboy
>he freaks out and yells how much he’s a fan
Goddamn this movie was a mess
Nice deflection laddercuck
Wasting Ian McShane like that should be a crime
>*t-poses in your direction*
>WWWWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOOHOOOHOOHOHOHOHOHOOOOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOOHOHOHOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
>AWRIGHT AWRIGHT AWRIGHT
>I LUB U LOBSTER JOHNSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON
Who the fuck read any single fucking issue of Hellboy ever and thought "this is how we should adapt this"
Hopefully they’ll make a Hellboy 3 with Del Toro to make everyone forget about the reboot, just like with Ghostbusters 3.
Ron Perlman is too old user. Its too late.
I'm convinced at this point Hollywood is only populated by imbeciles, even from the pure business end they stop making the simplest, dumbest mistakes. Like they have no idea how to give a customer what they want, it's "I want to do whatever the fuck me and my social media buddies like and everyone needs to give me money for it" is Hollywood's attitude.
This is why I just read books, comics and play video games and barely watch movies or shows. I'm done with Hollywood's inability to be honest in anything it "adapts", I'm tired of them being parasites on more creative, smarter people.
haha come on user look at this comic, its all happy fun times here
LE LOBSTER JOHNSON AMIRITE?
>The good old "b-but advertising"
Look, we don't know how Hollywood accounting works. This is a mid-budget movie doing mid-budget business, with the plus side of getting a lot of good reviews and good rapport with the audience. Look at BvS, for instance. It made more money than Shazam, it probably even made more of a profit than Shazam would do, but in the long run it ended up costing WB a shitload of money because it tarnished the brand. Shazam is not only profitable in the BO, but it's great PR for the brand that's trying to get away from Snyder's shit "vision".
So I just saw the movie. All that I can really say is...
Yikes, this thing really has fans?
And not only fans but the type that has their heads up their asses?
This... Thing is supposed to be the Marvel/DC killer?
Never read Hellboy. Not watching it because it looks like another MCU clone with shitty quips every 5 minutes and random shit blowing up to disguise the poor story. I may pirate one day it but it's not worth the ticket price.
It's a great introduction to the greatest franchise ever, you should move it up on your backlog.
Same. Really starting to hate how much blockbusters are trying to copy the MCU formula with these non-stop quips
It actually looks worse, it looks like a Suicide Squad clone
besides Morrisonfags
Well, there are Johnsfags too.
>Universal tried to turn its monsters into MCU superheroes
>it failed
Maybe Blumhouse will buy the Hellboy rights someday and do a Lobster Johnson movie. Anything is better than this.
I really hope that all the folks laughing/patting themselves on the back about how poorly the new Hellboy movie is doing right now understand that they sound EXACTLY like the nerds that shit on the Star Wars prequels. Hellboy would think y'all were serious dicks for that.
Del Toro isn't gonna suddenly be your best friend because you shit on this movie. He's never gonna know that you did it, let alone know who you are. You're just being an asshole, and it's sad.
ALSO, if you're sitting here nearly climaxing at the thought of Palpatine coming back in Episode IX after spending the past decade+ shitting on the prequels, you're the worst kind of nerd, and I hope you sit in some gum at the theater.
Nothing can be a DC killer because DC is long dead
I love everything about this post.
>fans of the previous hellboy movies alienated because they wanted a sequelto finish the trilogy
>comic fans of hellboy alienated because its still too different from the comics
Did you copy paste this post from somewhere else? it's pretty embarrassing.
>the first two movies contain direct references to big
So how long until that reboot?
Just because they aren't just like Marvel dosn't mean they're dead. It means they have some individuality atleast. And Shazam has just redefined what a good superHERO story is.
>Hellboy would think y'all were serious dicks for that.
>’if you like killing stalking, every character in steven universe hates you’
This is the funniest kind of personal attack. The old ‘fictional character wouldn’t like you’, it’s more of a self own than a pointed insult.
But Yea Forums told me Shazam flop....
As a person who HASN'T followed the creation of this movie, or any of the studio talk, why didn't they hire Del Toro to make a third Hellboy movie, and why the fuck did they release this so close to Endgame?
Scheduling problems iirc. Mignola, Perlman, and Del Toro met to try to work something out but apparently they couldn't.
He's also cursed.
>Silent Hills
>that one other game that got cancelled
>Pinocchio, originally
can't flop is you have nothing to lose and play it safe.
>can't even show Murderman's face
The animated movies were good
>did even worse overseas
>will sell to China for a fixed price, not going to get anything from the box office
Hehe boobies.
The actor they got (David Harbour) to be Hellboy looks like a bad cosplay that some nerd poor thousands of dollars into but can't pull off because he's a fat fuck in a muscle suit. Promotion images looked great but yah know lighting and photoshop does wonders for a still image.
He acts like a comedian doing a parody sketch of Hellboy. His voice doesn't fit either.
I'm not saying Ron Pearlman was the best but he sure as shit fit the role better.
The comics are good: nice art, clever re-imagining of folk tales, likable lonesome hero, well constructed metaplot rewarding readers for noticing small details or remembering the lore, non-linear storyline done well, cool setting… Too bad the films were little more than brain-dead action movies.
Comics and AAA vidya is just as guilty of that shit. Just look at Marvel and DC comics the past few years where the majority is nothing but abject garbage made to piss people off.
>little
I'm creeped out by that movie and not just because it's an inverted Big. I mean, a romance between a 10 year old black girl and a 30 year old man on screen makes me think Harvey Weinstein is still making movies.
That's true but I'm more talking about taking from other sources and not respecting them, AT LEAST comics are the original source... Even if it's fucking retarded. They do copy more now too, I blame the Internet.
That will never happen. Three bombs in a row. They're never going to make another Hellboy movie
I saw the movie. There’s a scene where she flirts with the white teacher and the actress is oddly convincingly seductive and it’s creepy (she’s barely 15?).
Then there’s another scene where her adult boyfriend does a strip tease in front of her child form by accident, AND another scene where she hugs him for too long and he freaks out.
I understood the gag the first time, but by the fourth time it just got weird. Besides that, it was an okay movie. There’s some good heartwarming group of children overcome bullying content.
It’s more than likely because Mongolia lost faith one Del Toro. He could never secure the money to do his Hellboy 3, so Mignola just threw the rights at someone else.
Kind of blew up in his face tho because Del Toro made Shape of Water and got the funding, but it was too late by then. So he claimed he did it because it would be more accurate to my the comics. But that was to save face
It’s not a flop but it should be performing way better than its doing. Especially since it’s so family oriented / kid friendly.
I think Endgame tickets going on sale worldwide just shot this film in the foot. I'm actually surprised it's doing this much
Film was dead long before then DCuck
>a real child was told by adults to do all these things and was filmed doing it
It’s okay user. It’s started a conversation and was pushing a good message!
Was it good?
I'm kind of surprised at how bad the reviews are. Sure, the trailer looked terrible, but I figured maybe the marketers sucked and just didn't know how to promote Hellboy. Seems like there are quite a number of templates for how to do a superhero movie in general and Hellboy movie in specific. It makes you wonder how these things even get made, like the last Fantastic Four movie. Isn't there a single person at these billion dollar corporations who can take a look at a project and see it's going right in the shitter?
Also it sucks because I want to see more (good) Hellboy movies. Early BPRD comics were also pretty great.
My birthday present would be for it to not make its fucking money back.
Fucking hell,I'm sure Yea Forums is loving it.
Hellboy has always been shit. Only BPRD has been good.
Watched the film yesterday, Only know of the Del Toro films(loved them), and barely know anything about the comics.
This film was entertaining but really lost me with the plot. The film itself felt like several episodes of a TV series being connected through a single string; Most of the scenes in the film didnt really make much sense as it seemed like the director wanted each scene to have something strange and eye catching happening rather than something coherent.
Another issue I had was that the film felt like it was trying to remake Del Toro's first film, which felt like a waste of time when I know there has to be more to Hellboy than just every plot being "You're the Key to everything Hellboy!".
Sup, ladderbro.
thats the opposite of ladderbro
Sorry, the custom.
I immediately thought the same thing before I checked the image desu
yikes!
Damn, that’s messed up,
Better not look into Shirley Temple
Is Tom Hanks in the movie?
the Del Toro curse
Mignola sold the rights the first time. This movie was made because the producers which owned the rights wanted it.
I watched it earlier today. It's not nearly as bad as the reviews imply. It's too quippy and the pacing is a little off, but if you're paying attention to what the characters are actually saying and where they're going it makes sense why it jumps around. It's a much more faithful adaptation of various comics plots than the Del taco movies. The action is solid, performances aren't bad and it looks really cool. I really liked the intro with HB in Mexico, Gruagach, and the last act with the vision of himself as the destroyer and when Hell is unleashed on Earth. Some great demon designs.
My biggest complaint is the daddy issues stuff. The pathos about man vs monster worked but the daddy issues felt forced.
I enjoyed it, save for the pedo bait parts I previously mentioned.
It's clear the producers and probably Harbour wanted an action-comedy while the director leaned more to action-horror. The film's flaws are the result of conflict between those competing visions.
I feel much the same about it. Too bad we seem to be the minority.
Hellboy in Mexico.
I've been thinking of getting into Hellboy comics, but everyone keeps shitting on the ending. Is it still worth it? I know some people say that Hellboy in Hell serves as a much better ending, but does it actually wrap everything up or is it just the last good arc?
Is it that bad?
The shitty part people are complaining about is an end to BPRD. There's a ton of Hellboy content apart from that, even a bit of an ending. Give it a shot. Mignola in his prime was a master and there are several HB stories which are superlative examples of comic storytelling. Mignola and Dave Stewart together is some of the best art in existence.
the fuck is little
The story of an adult woman trapped in a 11 year old kid's body trying to seduce a 30 year old man. Yeah, they had a real little girl do that.
It's also an inverted Big.
I can't find a single thread.
no no no no nononononoNON ONONONONONONO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOO NOOOO NOOOOOO NOOONOOOO NOOOOOO
What?
This is because in entertainment in general nobody really has a reliable formula for what audiences want. Good things flop (but not always), bad things print money (but only some of the time), formulas work for a decade or two and then suddenly collapse. If someone has a bunch of successes no one can reliably say if it's something they did or just luck. The same is true when someone fucks up.
>implying that shit was Hellboy
Thank you for including me in the screencap. It is now that later date and I am laughing at your retardation, ladderbro.
>madea's freaky friday
It's reverse Big, you idiot. It's in the fucking name.
blue and cringepilled
hih wraps everything up nicely. shouldve been left alone
yes.
I didn't expect it to beat Shazam bit not even Little? What an absolute shit show
So it’s getting beaten by two versions of “Big” at the same time then.
Shazam and Little both have references to Big which is kind of funny.
Yes "Shazam! Little Hellboy"
Aquaman managed to do a billion, pretty good for "dead"
>Little in second place
What is this, 1995?
Shazam is gonna chug to $200 million domestic, isn't it? I bet it gets there before it's out of theaters, even with Endgame coming up.
No they aren't.
Between this and Umbrella Academy, I'm 100% positive nobody knows how to do Pulp successfully. Joe Johnston might be the last bastion.
Hellboy in Hell is basically the perfect ending, just stop there.
I predict Shazam is going to do mad bank if it gets a China release.
That's how being an adult feels like, user.
I saw the movie the other Night.
It had 2 major flaws:
1. They didn't stay on any shot for even a full second besides two camera following fight scenes. It's so fast cut, the entire movie felt like a 2 hour trailer
2. It's really trashy but the good kind. Fun Trashy. I would of liked it if it wasn't about Hellboy. With the detail they put into the gore and demons it would have been the best Doom movie.
Based user. Be my friend.
Don't forget At the Mountain of Madness.
Sometimes I wonder if Del Toro wouldn't just burst spontaneously into flames one day. Dude it's legit but damn he's really unlucky.
Hellbronies BLOWN THE FUCK OUT
GIVE HER THE DC
Looks like their "dark horse" has been... Shazammed.
Nah it's not flashy enough. It should do alright though
>DC
*Fawcett
Hmmm...
What would happen if Fawcett, Charlton and other Golden Age comic companies were still around?
Capeshit probably wouldn't have such a stranglehold on the industry, assuming E.C. was left to its own devices and a comics code was never necessitated.
They'd be owned by Disney.
>a comics code was never necessitated
Well this is the big thing. The comics code gutted romance, war and horror comics, crippled sci-fi and pushed enough people away from comics in general that only capeshit truly survived.
Huh, Imagine instead of Cape movies we would be fighting over Science based stories.
Huh, Labshit instead of Capeshit.
Complaining that filmmakers are too cowardly to have women in tubes
>This is why I just read books, comics and play video games and barely watch movies or shows. I'm done with Hollywood's inability to be honest in anything it "adapts", I'm tired of them being parasites on more creative, smarter people.
In the same boat with you. Shows and movies of these properties have become such shitshows. You occasionally get a few that are alright but most are just overly tinkered with garbage that want pandering points. Even if you wanna rag on new comics you still got runs that stretch back decades you can jump on and never really run out.
I feel for the fans of the comic and the character and the movie turning out the way it did but I can't help but laugh at that faggot
LIL
>>Actuals down to $12mil
It would have made 13 if they had just let del Toro and Perlman do it so I hope everyone learned their lesson
Wrong on every count.
The movie is not only too quippy, the quips are painfully and obviously inserted in post because about 50% of them are dubbed in while the character isn't in shot. On top of this, the quips are all delivered by actors who don't give a fuck (except possibly Harbour).
The pacing is atrocious, the film jumps around from scene to scene, abandoning ideas as it goes and making no effort to explain or justify what's going on. I literally don't remember how they get from point A to point B for half of the scene transitions and the film only makes sense because I've read the original comic it's bastardised from - if you haven't read the comics this film will make literally zero sense.
Gruagach's character is entirely undermined in this film compared to the comics because we don't get his backstory to see that his situation is entirely his fault and that his petty vendetta with Hellboy is blown entirely out of proportion. He's meant to be a whinny bitch that accidentally brings about the end of the world without accomplishing his main goal or ever getting to take revenge on Hellboy.
The unnecessary and over the top edge speaks volumes to the headspace of the creative minds behind this film. It constantly feels the need to reassure itself that yes, it's a film for adults because it can swear and show blood.
This movie did two things right.
1. The Hellboy in Mexico sequence.
2. The demon designs.
go woke
go broke
