Henry Collins
The first season covers most of the books, although there are a fair number of original stuff not in the books. The guy who made the books works on the show, so it's pretty faithful to the source material.
The main differences are that Frida and David are pretty minor characters in the books, Hilda mostly adventures on her own, and that Johanna is a bit more fearful of Hilda being in the city in the books while in the show she is much more permissive/encouraging of Hilda venturing into the city. Johanna and Hilda clash over this, and the conflict comes to a head in Hilda and the Stone Forest.
Also the artwork of the earlier books is a lot different than the show as the show's art style is based off the most recent books.

My guess is that that plot might get spread out over a few episodes, like the Black Hound book did. Maybe Johanna will see Hilda almost get eaten by a monster, freak out, and try to be more protective of Hilda. Hilda would chafe under this and resent her mother and eventually things would come to a head in the stone forest episode.

I wanted to like it, I really did, but it just didn't click for me. There's nothing too wrong with it, but for some reason it just fell short for me.
