Being realistic, I kinda understand why they changed it. Mr.Freeze was in limbo for years because of his sympathetic origin with Nora. It was kinda tiring because that was all Mr.Freeze talked about since "Heart of Ice." Everything was about Nora and that was his entire character, that lead to Mr. Freeze not having many good stories because he could only have one type of story. This origin however wasn't really the best thing they should have done. They could have maybe focused more on the fact that he is trapped in his suit instead of making him insane. Mr. Freeze is a character is trapped by one good story and can't do anything else, he is one dimensional. I hope that they can find out how to make a good Mr.Freeze story because the last one was "Heart of Ice."

I say this every time it's brought up, but Dini fixed the "Heart Of Ice" problem by killing off Nora in his Mr. Freeze special, making the character closer to his '66 counterpart by focusing his revenge on Batman himself.
This actually led to a pretty good story in No-Man's Land, where Mr. Freeze tried to turn Gotham into a barbaric wasteland of TV addicts by forcing the remaining citizens to plunder and destroy the city's cultural treasures in exchange for electricity.
Since Gotham was physically destroyed, Freeze's revenge was to destroy the city culturally by killing it's history.

While I don't disagree about Heart of Ice being Victor's one and only good story, I do think there's a way to get more mileage out of him without completely bastardizing his character. You could further push his mania by his desire to "freeze" his beloved memories in time which in turn are deadly to Gotham. Like for example it's his wife's anniversary, and he wants to freeze the location where he purposed to her and relive that moment. Him refusing to acknowledge Nora won't get better and escaping into his memories makes him both sad and a continuous threat that doesn't keep rehashing his search for a cure
Or alternatively, why not just make Victor a reformed villain turned Batfamily member? They've tried this shit before with Clayface, but with Victor it honestly makes more sense

This comic was schizophrenic as fuck. The first issues established that Starfire had been living in seclusion on a deserted beach because DC at the time was trying its hardest to imitate MARVEL with the idea that humans feared and hated aliens or anyone with super-powers. But then they show Starfire in a resort sporting a bikini - which originally was going to be transparent and show her red bush - while monologuing about how oppressed she is for being an alien among these strange humans. she can distinguish because they all look alike to her. In the same page you could see a small boy trying to film her bathing with his cellphone so he could fap to the video later. So what was the point of any of it? Why establish that she was feared and hated, and lived in isolation if you're going to show her posing unabashed in a crowded place? Why even establish that if everyone around her is more busing faping to her hot body than actually hating her? Just to set up later on an alien hunter that eventually came across said video the boy took of her?

The New 52 when it started literally tried to shock the readers with violence and sex. Pretty much every comic opened up with some excessive titillation of some form. This one with Starfire almost naked and being up to fuck whoever, Catwoman raping poor Batman in her ongoing, Voodoo doing a striptease as a stripper joint, Harley Quinn fucking Deadshot and pointing how much his big dick was stretching her tiny clown pussy, Wonder Woman being surprised in her bed while sleeping naked, Superman trying to murder the fuck out of Batman and Green Lantern, Superman dangling someone from a balcony in Action Comics, and so on. I'm not saying all the comics sucked, but you could see that it was a coordinated effort to show DC fans and casual readers this wasn't their daddy's comics anymore.
It's pretty fucking hilarious looking back on it.

That's what they did Post Crisis too. But it worked much better back then, mostly due to the writers being much more competent. They had the "mature readers" sticker on the titles that had some nudity, but lots of the other books (like Suicide Squad) were telling more-adult stories.
New 52 was them looking at the worst parts of the Ultimate universe and saying "let's do that"
