Superman and Batman are dead and buried

Has the time come for Martian Manhunter to get his own movie?

Who would you cast as him, and what would your basic plot and featured characters be?

Idris Elba

Jack Black

Hold up, imma just type up a short summary of the movie I’d have him start with

meme answer is actually good

Daniel DeVito.

Good luck user :)

On the one hand, Manhunter is an awesome character that has potential for the big screen. Just imagine crazy shapeshifting shenanigans with big budget CGI.

On the other hand, I doubt he will be handleded well by the movie makers.

As for the actual question. Probably fully CG figure, with several actors taking place as his shifted forms. Lamarr Johnson as voice.

Plot: set in 1960's at the start of manned Space Race. J'onn is sent to Earth to snoop around NASA as the main contender for arriving to Mars (unbeknownst to him, Male'faak is sent to USSR). During his investigations, J'onn discovers a White Martian conspiracy, as they had arrived earlier in hopes of using Cold War paranoia and Earth's resources to strike against Green Martians.

It would be a boring movie desu. He's just a green Superman weak against fire instead of kryptonite

Fuck yeah, that's what those fools that dismissed MM don't understand, instead of insulting their base they should fucking listen as the comics avid readers know better than those stupid hollyjew types.

Make MM alter ego be his Bloodwynd counterpart minus the white costume and let the overpowered godtier writing begin! MM would fuck up the Xmen and Avengers easy w/prep time.

That's why you don't focus on building punching and car throwing. You focus on shapeshifting and telepathy. J'onn worked as a detective, which is a good place to start. Make it a paranoia-infused thrilller.

Hell, you could even use lesser-known villains like Headhunter for a secondary plot.

MM not weak to fire since Fernus

I’d have Chiwetl Ejiofor play the voice of Martian Manhunter and his human disguise

Have the film start off pretty mysteriously, a crew of thugs are hired to steal something from an excavation site at night. They weren’t even told what it was, just that it was locked up in a large crate.

One of the crew is played by Chiwetl. Anyway, it’s clear that this is no normal Native burial ground or what have you, it’s some kind of huge buried six-finmetallic structure, a scientist is seen overseeing others as weird shit is examined.

They barely escape without being noticed with the crate on the back of their truck, but just as they start celebrating the scientist in the excavation site touches a panel, and the crate begins glowing with whatever is inside as a result.

>manhunter
>he's a dude
>he knows what you're thinking

oh honey

The crate starts making a gradually growing noise along with its gradually brightening light, the crew argue louder and louder about whether they should just ditch it. And then it explodes.

The crew are all dead, except for Chiwetl, who’d bleeding out against a tree as he watches what was once in the crate.

A strange object floats in front of him, it whirs and shoots light like a 3D printer prints. Until it projects a green humanoid who then falls to its knees gasping and speaking a strange alien language.

Chiwetl is freaking out, but being so close to death he can’t do much. The humanoid sees him and approaches, he reads his mind and learns English, then shape shifts into him just as he dies. He looks through his pockets and finds a clearly fake ID with the name “John Jones” and decides he will imitate this dude until he figures out where he is, and what happened back home on his planet Ma'aleca'andra.

Anyway, to cut the story short....

>through detective work he figures out who the scientists are and what the site they were excavating was
>his powers are much weaker than his full potential due to the mental blocks of amnesia. He’s still pretty OP though, he just can’t read the minds of everyone easily and know everything, or phase through all danger etc. Shapeshifting, strength, laser eyes and flight is his main arsenal
>He is chased by the Human Flame at a couple points, and at first he doesn’t take him seriously because bullets didn’t hurt him. But he soon realised he’s weak to fire and has to use ingenuity to overcome it later
>he allies himself with the scientist in charge of the excavation, revealing himself as an alien to him and asking him to help get back home

>turns out, the friendly wealthy benefactor of science we see throughout the film on TV was the one behind it all. He’s secretly Mr V, the head of a shadowy organisation that’s bent on controlling the fate of people and nations. He funded the excavation to try and appropriate more alien tech, he also used said alien tech to give the Human Flame his powers
>Big showpiece where Jones easily dispatches dozens of armed guards and tells Mr V he won’t be stopped that easily. He then manages to defeat the human flame by tricking him into an open elevator shaft, then flooding it with a water main
>finally, he confronts Mr V who wears a strange hood now, which is actually alien tech enhanced. jones begins screaming in pain as he realises it’s some kind of anti Psionic hood, Mr V then monologues that Jones is a fool, he’s never going back home.
>through this and the psionic pain, we finally get the flashback where it’s revealed what happened
>all the Martians perished in an intergalactic war when a psionic weapon caused all Martians to die screaming in agony, imagining fire consuming them. In this weakened state their planet was burnt to a crisp by the mysterious invaders, wiping clean every trace of their once great civilisation
>Jones was working with another scientist on an experimental teleportation device, with its end point being a research station on earth
>it jammed, and Jones was caught in a kind of buffer. Not there or here, stuck in mid teleportation. His mind scrambled, but his body safe, until he finally got here.

>Jones and Mr V have a mental battle with surreal landscapes and powers of will
>Jones overcomes it by letting go of his hope to return home, managing to remove V’s hood, and turn off his mind control device he was attempting to power up for his shadow organisations goals
>Jones decides he will be a detective on earth as John Jones, while the scientist on the site says he may not be the last Martian as there seem to be records of colonies. So Jones has hope he may one day find his people.

Too bad Holyfield too old now, he'd be the perfect MM in his prime.

>Jones reminisces over his lost people and family in a flashback, and agrees with the scientist that there is still hope he may find his people
>end credits scene shows another excavation site in South America by the shadowy group, where a translation of some Martian text reads “Malefic”, then a huge burst of red light occurs. With a shadowy red figure unleashed
>the figure says “WHERE IS MY BROTHER

Burning Martian, hell yeah!

You're good at this

Unironically this. J'onn being black is a good touch for his character. The concept of feeling alien even amongst the aliens people.

Comics fans in general had a problem with Cyborg in JLA movie not because he's black but because Cyborg not an original founding member from 1960, the true original JLA. I remember some anti-MM fags would laugh at the idea of MM being in the JL movie because they claimed making MM black too racist or some non-sense because MM an alien, those fags don't know shit about comics.

Making MM black makes perfect sense because of Bloodwynd and bonus is MM is an A-lister tier in terms of powers.

Thanks.

I like the idea of making Mr V some overarching villain, since his organisation still exists even if he’s locked up. So they’ll come to get him eventually. And Jones has plenty of detective opportunities in working against them and their agents.

Also some classic sibling rivalry villain is cool, maybe start the sequel with Malefic being all buddy-buddy because he knows Jones can’t really remember him, and he wants access to the scientists Martian tech. Until you finally have his have more flashbacks reveal all the fucked upvoted shit Malefic did, e.g. his mind rape of Jones wife, that he was the one responsible for giving the invaders the tech needed to destroy the Martians as revenge for them locking him away etc

Then Jones has to stop his brother from enslaving the earth with Martian tech, you could have a cool scene where Malefic orders every human to attack Jones in all his forms and he has to avoid them as best he can without hurting them.

Then he works with Mr V to stop him because clearly he doesn’t want some Martian douchebag ruling over earth instead of him and his benevolent organisation.

Why can’t they make movies like this instead of Fant4stic

Because the world is cold and cruel

Too old

True. He’d have been great

It’s more interesting to have a hero with a weakness to something so common though.

Having kryptonite everywhere is contrived, any asshole can make fire.
