Sorry, but there's only one Mr. Link. And he has a sword, pointy ears, and makes me question my sexuality when he wears women's clothes.

>missing link
Change it to intelligent design and it would have done better.

>PG rating so the whole family can see it without problems
>celebrity voice actors
>stop-motion that could pass off as CGI
Ouch

why does it look so ugly
we're in 2019 for God's sake

What would it be about? Some dude claiming to have been made by God whooping everyone's ass?

Attached: 1551780642542.jpg (1388x1060, 84K)

I liked Kubo, but I heard from reviews that this one lacked any kinda of "zip" or off-beat humor, just played extremely safe, so i wasn't sure if I should go see it or not.

>tries to be as appealing to normies as possible
And yet they went with that disgusting character design

Even Disney's Quasimodo was less offputting

Attached: 1.jpg (640x480, 46K)

My honest question is who does this appeal to? Like who the fuck cares about big foot? Kids? Kids don't like big, stupid, smell, hairy, dumb things. They like hyperactive, little, cute things. Nobody is going to relate to that piece of shit. Nobody is going to sympathize with it. Nobody is going to want to adopt it. So what the fuck? I'm just so mad that a SERIES of grown adults greenlighted this dumpster fire. HUMANS ALL DECIDED TO SPEND MONEY MAKING THIS! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Box Trolls was the worst one of Laika before this was made. Seeing a pattern here?

want to be "normie" as possible?
Should've made a stop-motion capeshit movie. Or at least make it look better than The Lego Movie.

Attached: Justice league.jpg (1280x720, 181K)

Ill say what I said in the last missing link thread, this movies biggest crime is it had no fucking clue what it wants to be.
The pacing is rocky and the tone is all over the place. They tried to pack way too much story into a 1hr35min runtime, half the little subplots probably could have been cut. honestly, to me, the idea of a cozy adventure story of them going halfway around the world to find the yetis would have made an interesting enough story. Adding in the villain chasing them was pointless. I literally leaned over to my friend in the theater and whispered "is this just the spongebob movie mixed with Atlantis?"

I'm probably going to see it anyway because I"m a sucker for stopmotion and I want to support laika, but would you say it's still worth seeing?

>boring UK accents
>anything remotely related to evolution triggers fundies and other anti-evolution religious folks

It feels like it was made for adult hipsters that like this kind of art style. Trying to attach Kubo to help advertise this doesn't help because Kubo had Japanophile/weeaboo appeal going for it.
zozzle!
As spergy as this post is, I 100% agree.

thank you based nike man

post the Kubo webm

Is the movie pretty boring? I want to support stop-motion but fuck.

How long can Nike Daddy keep Laika afloat?

He looks like a sex offender

I'm not surprised by this at all Laika films keep flopping and this had no advertising. Hellboy opening behind Little is the real shit show

Whats the concern about Gross?

I thought the Laika shills said that the company is above money

Yea Forums got infected by Yea Forums a long time ago

Yikes! It’s hard to know whose fault this is.

Literally Shazam

The thing is I don't see how this appeals to normies at all. The kids in the cinema didn't seem to give a fuck at all, though the parents seemed to enjoy it. I wonder if it's because there's no prominent kid characters in the movie and aside from I guess Mr. Link himself there's no comic relief character to keep their attention, or if all the jokes about the British Empire or the two human mains past relationships went over their heads.

At least Missing Link has a top tier big chinned waifu and a pretty cool villain death

Attached: missing_link_ML_BTS_00502_R_rgb[1].jpg (1200x800, 80K)

My little sister said it looked dumb so I knew it would flop

Aside from the cardboard display in the theater, I have seen ZERO advertising for this.

No wonder it failed.

I don't get it Yea Forums. Why does everything that Laika put out after Coraline fall flat?

I can watch Coraline over and over again and I'll still find new things to love about it, but any other Laika film just doesn't have that same power over me. It makes me really sad because I love stop motion, but artistry alone can't keep it afloat.

Attached: Coraline-6-750x407.png (750x407, 129K)

literally forever if they keep to this release schedule.

>paranorman
>fall flat
pls

This is the first I'm hearing about this movie and I generally like Laika stuff. What kind of marketing campaign did it have?

The marketing campaign of not having one. Laika movies tend to do OK in the home video/streaming markets anyway, so it flipping at theatres isn’t much of a big deal.

>coraline: based on a book by a successful writer
>paranorman: original story
>boxtrolls: character concepts taken from a book, but otherwise almost entirely original story
>kubo: original story
>missing link: original story
really makes you think. the problem with artists is they may have great ideas but they're not always great at executing those ideas. just look at how many webcomics seem promising at first but then meander and never go anywhere for years. you need a writer's touch to take that good starting idea and turn it into a good end product. otherwise you end up with style over substance, which can be fun in its own right, but doesn't have the same staying power

Lack of cute girls obviously

>>anything remotely related to evolution triggers fundies and other anti-evolution religious folks
>Meanwhile x-men movies use to be the most popular capeshit
>somehow bitch about religion when a British movie flops
Why does this always happen? Missing link had nothing to do with religion. Yet British people always bitch religion somehow. Even though the UK has one of the largest growing Muslim population in the EU.

Fuck off mutt and not be white somewhere else.

Only Laika films I've watched are Kubo and Paranorman, which are both pretty good. Are any of their other films worth watching?

Maybe Mr link shouldn’t look like a child molesting orangutan?

Coralline book and movie are very different. Very very different. Like in the book, Coraline is instantly suspicious and doesn't trust ANYTHING that is happening and tries to figure out how to avoid it happening again, but she can’t. In the movie, Coraline is horny for more other world shenanigans and would probably have accepted the opportunity to stay there if the method of doing so (sewing buttons into her eyes) wasn’t so fucked up.

But Kubo is the cutest girl (male)

>Anything remotely questions or criticize the uk
>Britbongs spam amerimutt meme
>Even when America was never once mention
Really makes you think.

Attached: 080335E3-FA3E-49F9-A3F6-411F0CAD51EF.jpg (650x1000, 39K)

It's not flopping though

>It's not flopping though
>DC movie
>Not flopping

Coraline. That's about it.

There is a small contingent of ParaNorman fags on Yea Forums that think the movie is fantastic, but they are just desperate.

Paranorman was great though

>nobody mentioned the UK apart from accents
>HURR FUCKING UKFAGS BROWN PEOPLE FUCKING MUSLIMS REEEE when intelligent design is mentioned
Hello westboro baptist nigger

Yeah, but then you remember Neil Gaiman actually was involved with the movie version, and even created Wybie as an original character because he knew Coraline talking to herself for the entirety of the movie wouldn't come off very well. About the only thing he disagreed with was how they made Wybie rescue her from the Beldam's hand at the end.

Now you compare that to something like The Boxtrolls, which only takes a minuscule amount from the book it was based off of, but nothing else, with no writer on board, and you can see what a trash fire it became with no intervention. That's like the equivalent of doing charades for script writing.

Can you name one moment in missing link with a religion joke?

>$202.4 million against a $80–100 million production budget
already broke even

Nobody is saying it made fun of religion you fucking down’s syndrome-having retard

Poor advertisement and not much cinema release. I mean how many movie theaters is showing it? It could have at least do more

>anons make fun of british anons for sperging about atheism
>Respond by sperging out
Way to prove him right.

my local theater had a poster for it in the lobby but they're not even showing it. I'm mad

>Nobody is saying it made fun of religion you fucking down’s syndrome-having retard
So bitching about religion like Insecure cunt. Good to know.

nobody sperged about atheism lmao

Isn't this fraudulent advertising?

more like “if this spoke more about creation then it might have done better” as a fact. y’know, because most of the human population is religious rofl

If you look at the uk race mixing rates, violent crime rates, obesity rates compared to the rest of the EU and the U.S. it’s British projecting while pretending they are better than both US and the rest of the EU because they can’t depend themselves on /pol/ and /inl/

>atheism lmao
>rofl
Nice. You showed him.

>yfw there is an alternate timeline where Laika flopped after ParaNorman and went bankrupt
>yfw in that same timeline Selick didn't get cucked by Disney and still had his own studio
>yfw we could have gotten nonstop stop motion kino like pic related

IT'S NOT FUCKING FAIR BROS

Attached: The_Shadow_King.jpg (280x354, 13K)

Needs more screening to make it a success. I'm noticing it had no hours screening and it's very limited. Which muight be what's wrong here. Only international viewing can save this movie. If it can break even that is

Why does Laika have such shitty writing, but such amazing visuals? Almost all their movies have mediocre scripts.

British butt hurt even funnier when you realize the eu keeping their island economy afloat. They think the common wealth will bail them out.

>religion
>in a kid's movie

Attached: 1536113729804.png (293x381, 198K)

Literally all DCEU movies except Justice League made there money back. Aquaman made a fucking billion. Get your head out of your ass, fucktard

>paranorman
>kubo

Nope.

>Literally all DCEU movies except Justice League made there money back
>Dc shills are this dumb

Yeah man The Prince of Egypt was a fucking flop haha.

He's right though

It was okay. Laika's best when it's darker.

>Yea Forums retards bring their Yea Forums tier company war retardation even in threads that aren't about Marvel nor DC

You know what I mean faggot. Unless the theme is explicitly about religion why would you bother with it and get the ire of the religious community?

Muh Yea Forums boogeyman!

Why would it “get the ire”? Nobody Arab or whatever was giving a fuck about TPoE being Christcentric.

Just a few subtle nods here and there could be enough.

I really really like this image

I can’t wait for Waititi and Harmon to deliver the REAL stop-motion ape kino.

sorry what the fuck kind of movie premise is this

>what the fuck kind of movie premise is this
One that topped the Blacklist for best screenplay of 2015

and now it’s in the production blacklist thanks to leaving neverland lmao

remember when aardman retitled a movie to remove the word 'scientists' and downplayed the role of charles darwin in the american market

director. coraline had henry selick, who knows what he's doing, he directed nightmare before christmas.

>why would a movie take creative risks?

Leaving Neverland’s no longer credible so it’s back on track
breitbart.com/entertainment/2019/04/12/nolte-michael-jacksons-hbo-accuser-caught-in-train-station-fiction/

Maybe he should go back to making movies with dead kids in them.

Can't Dan Harmon just die already?

It's boring. There's moments of action where it tries to pick up the movie a bit, but it fails miserably by having the action stretch out for too long.
The pinnacle fight scene at the end is a yawnfest of the main characters swinging back and forth on an icicle

Even my brother who usually eats up any animated movie that I go see in theaters with him (we saw early man and secret life of pets and he loved those) checked his phone a couple times during the movie (it's okay, we were the only ones in the theater)

do you happen to be a waifufag?

>breitbart.
mate you're not on /pol/

There's been like three CGI Bigfoot movies this year. Shit's weird. This, Small Foot, and there's a Dreamworks one too.

By that same logic ParaNorman fans are shotafags

Boxtrolls is better than Kubo

Attached: smarc-Boxtrolls-Fish10b+color.jpg (1000x1677, 881K)

I'd need to see boxtrolls to judge your statement

If you hadn't told me this was Laika I would have thought it was Aardman or something.

Missing Link is Laika’s Early Man

laika needs writers. thats why coraline was good

What release schedule?

>liked secret life of pets
Fucking disgusting

Why did Henry Selick leave Laika

release movies sporadically

Paranorman was great and while Kubo wasn't on that level, it was still good enough. Maybe they're just bad at doing comedy? I felt that being comedic wasn't the original intention of Box Trolls, but a decent chunk of the cast were smartasses but unlike Paranorman that was zero emotional payoff because the Box trolls was purely instinctual and had zero personality themselves.

The only flat out weak one is Box Trolls and even that has some enjoyable elements to it.

awn.com/news/breaking-news-henry-selick-leaves-laika
>CORALINE director Henry Selick has departed Laika after unsuccessfully renegotiating his contract, which expired at the end of last month. However, the stop-motion legend will continue to work with the Portland, Oregon-based animation studio and Focus Features in promoting Coraline through the awards season. Selick was not available for comment, but, according to a Laika spokesperson, he was not formally attached to any Laika projects following Coraline.

Has he worked on anything after Coraline?

>stop-motion that could pass off as CGI
The kid needs to understand this IS functionally CGI when the characters are modeled and animated in computers and each frame's contents shat out of 3D printers. Go back to Coraline and Paranorman.

works for pixar afaik, but they kept cancelling all of his projects. some stop-motion netflix stuff too

There was a Hellboy reboot?

for some reason I've seen advertising in shitty phone games. Maybe the budget ran out from splurging on celebrities?

yeah

stop-motion and pixar seems like a weird combination

I can't imagine how you could genuinely form this opinion. What exactly makes it better?

Seriously. Why not just make CGI that looks like stop motion instead of shitting on mother nature and producing unnecessary plastic that will be used once or twice during the movie production and will look like CGI anyway?
Or at least make the faces traditionally animated and mix it with stop-motion techniques so it still looks natural. I dunno.
What a waste of plastic.

Yea Forumsntrarianism

Attached: 1352368148393.png (156x166, 3K)

this desu

What's the point of stop-motion if it doesn't look as good as cgi?

I think this is part of their problem. they don't have that stopmotion jank, that aardman thumbiness, that lets you quickly tell at a glance "this is a little doll that someone has been moving around". So to the normies, they just see movies like this or kubo and think "wow that's a shitty looking cgi movie"

>coraline had henry selick
It had good source material, a screenwriter intelligent enough to introduce Wybie to do the exposition dumps, TMBG music, a 3D IMAX release so successful that when the Jonas Brothers movie flopped it filled the rest of its run, great toys, a highly relatable main character and genuine horror.
Paranorman is the closest they've gotten or ever will to that.

to look less polished
those flaws are what's so beautiful about stop motion
this
I mean, Kubo looks great, but it's kinda pointless when it looks so similar to lower-frame CGI. Shaun the Sheep on the other hand embraces its stop-motioness

>Paranorman is the closest they've gotten or ever will to that.
And Paranorman is not even close to Coraline's quality. The only great things about the movie is the witch backstory and the sister's ass

Yeah, look at this CGI bullshit. You can't even call it stop motion at this point.

Attached: Kubo Stop Motion Montage.webm (640x360, 2.86M)

audiences hate stop-motion. Even more than 2D.

i like it too

No, and it makes me sad to say that.

There really is nothing of value to gain from seeing this movie.

>to look less polished
I don't think you quite understand stop-motion

>Why not just make CGI that looks like stop motion
They did.

Great movie but it bombed at the box office and Aardman hated it.

Attached: flushed-away_a-L-6131100-0.jpg (309x450, 30K)

>The only great things about the movie is the witch backstory
Which imo worked better here youtube.com/watch?v=-TqfBEX6QtE
>and the sister's ass
You're not wrong

I've actually seen a lot of advertising for this. Lots of billboards and posters around the Chicago area.

I think it's flopping because it's ugly. Saw a movie with my dad recently, as we were leaving the theater he pointed at the poster and said, "Wow, that one looks terrible." They shouldn't have based their ads on a headshot of an ape-man.

>witch backstory and the sister's ass

I think the sister had plenty of backstory.

Attached: dexter chin.jpg (445x308, 16K)

Lego Movie looked great

still have to watch it
chose to watch Hellboy 2 and boy that movie sucked balls

It did make fun of religion though.
Like in the beginning when the head of the club rambles on about how much he hates new ideas and evolution

This movie shares a spot with Shark Tale on my "I saw this in theaters but can't remember a single thing from it" movie list.

1. I thought Kubo was CGI from the trailer.
2. I saw exactly nothing in Kubo story- or character-wise that made me want to see it. Nothing. If it had been an Asian import my reaction would have been the same. Knight cannot tell an interesting from a boring concept, just how complex it would be to animate and that's what gets his dick hard.

You mean it's a 90 minute long soccer joke?

The yeti design is very bare bones. Who looked at it and thought "yeah this is the final design, the face of our movie"?

Nice try, Dril

Attached: 8c6.png (625x217, 34K)

To have a comparison, how well did Isle of Dogs perform? For one thing I'm sure the marketing reached a wider audience.

Attached: 91XziUjz4PL._RI_.jpg (1920x2560, 676K)

$64.2 million with an unknown budget

Movie producers seem to have a misguided idea that Yeti/the abominable snowman/missing link/bigfoot is a fresh concept ripe for interesting stories despite Harry and the Hendersons being the only known example of it not being a complete box office failure.
There are literally only two possible paths with it:
1. The monster is a troublemaking retard that the humans grow fond of and hide from the authorities
2. The monster is erudite and pokes fun at human assumptions about it for 90 fucking minutes in endless reverse fish out of water situations
Both of these have been mined to death and don't have enough material to justify 80 pages of double-spaced screenplay.

I'd imagine not to well since half of the movie is Japanese with no subtitles. Also, it's stop-motion

this thing never came to my theater and I'm still butthurt about it

>Also, it's stop-motion
Yes, that's what we are discussing in this thread. Stop motion.

I remember the slugs. Those were like proto-Minions.

Fantastic Mr. Fox took in $6M more than it cost to make not accounting for marketing. It is no surprise that the studio refused to tell how much IoD cost to make and they were basically writing it off as a Wes Anderson vanity project knowing the next time he pumps words out of Bill Murray's mouth they'll make their losses back.

I remember there being events like bringing dogs to watch it on a big screen outside. I don't think there was much discussion here about the movie.

And on top of that it was PG-13, which probably turned off soccer moms.

>Book of Mormon comes out
>Schmaltzy, feel good satire of religion, missionaries, myth, and Africa.
>Doesn't go full fedora saying "RELIGION BAD, FUG CHRISTIANITY, FUG GOD.", instead taking a more sympathetic approach.
>Britbongs chimp out because they can't understand subtly or anything not explicitly anti-religion

There must be something in the water in the UK

3. The monster develops into a foot fetish superstar and the story progresses in a musician biopic fashion when he starts doing drugs and losing his friends just to come back after reaching the bottom, in a very important fetish movie that will give him a new chance at love and life. The movie ends on a freeze frame and text narration of what happened to every character. Big Foot dies 3 years later from Athlete's foot.

boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=isleofdogs.htm
It wasn't widely marketed. I think most people knew it existed from trailers at actual movie theaters.

>Kids don't like big, stupid, smell, hairy, dumb things.

They love King Kong and gorillas in general. Or at least they used to. There was this crazy time in american movie and comic history where gorillas used to be everywhere.

>I remember there being events like bringing dogs to watch it on a big screen outside.
what the fuck

Glad to see you still shitpost here Justin. How's that dreadful new show going?

nme.com/news/film/isle-of-dogs-dog-screening-cameo-cinema-2273786

I hated gorillas as a kid
they showed up in everything, got sick of them really fast
now dinosaurs were the actual shit

>They love King Kong and gorillas in general.
Which is part of why missing link type characters are unnecessary. Hell, we just found an entirely new branch of humanity a couple days back and the indifference to it is deafening.

I actually want context from this. Is Justin some famous foot fetishist?

>nothing waifuable for manchildren

Not even a yeti chick?

The fuck you got against Bigfoot my guy?

Attached: Bigfoot.png (1001x1920, 1.33M)

I’m pretty hyped for this.

Only issue is I wish they’d made Serpentina hotter.

I'm implying the terrible story concept is the work of Justin Roiland who has a moribund show in preproduction.

Oh man, I'm actually kinda flattered now. I always wanted to reach Roiland's level of shitposting.

Maybe. Show me her then I might tell you.

oh dang that looks pretty neat. it says it released in russia 6 months ago, is there a way for us to watch it yet?

they should have stuck to doing movies about cute girls doing cute things

i don't hate this

Incidentally, this movie was being made in stop motion and then they had a an accident on set and all the dolls got destroyed or something. So they did it in CGI

also rita is a cute mouse girl

Being a Brit must suck, huh?

He had a development deal at Disney that involved him having his own stop-motion studio there. But after getting footage back of the weird shit he was doing they shut the whole thing down after spending $50 million on it. The movie he was making was called ShadeMaker (which was later changed to The Shadow King) and he was allowed to take the rights to the project with him and has a bunch of finished footage but it's looking unlikely to ever be finished now that he's moved onto other stuff, either that or it's going to turn into his Thief and the Cobbler that takes many years to complete as a side passion project. There's a bunch of pictures of the puppets here that I just found now, I didn't know we ever got more than a single poster:
forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=287304

He's been attached to a bunch of different projects in the interim but what he's working on right now which is in active production and seems like it will actually come out eventually is a movie called Wendell and Wild for Netflix, which is starring Key and Peele as demon brothers and Peele co-wrote the script with Selick.

Attached: shadow-king-puppets-02.jpg (700x516, 93K)

I thought he made a game right after he got fired from Disney

These designs certainly have more intrinsic appeal than Laika's, which are intentionally odd (iirc they hired the character designer for ParaNorman specifically because she wasn't a trained artist and drew in a very distinct and asymmetrical style).
Another thing to keep in mind in regards to the decade gap between projects is that Selick is known to be a very weird and difficult person. Not a total asshole or abuser or anything, just eccentric as hell and not willing to budge from his impulses on a lot of things.
No, he was working on a TV show adaptation of the video game Little Nightmares but now that he's working on an actual movie I don't think he'll give it much of his attention, think he was only supposed to help develop it and direct the first episode anyway. There's been no word on it for two years, in any case

the designs were the first thing that jumped out at me looking at those photos. they're really nice looking

fpbp

Just got out of the theatre from it.

I'm surprised people seem to really hate Susan's design. It's not amazi g but I can't think of what is particularly terrible about it.

Like Kubo it suffers from what feels like a weak finale but it was still enjoyable, definitely better then Boxtrolls.

I thought people hated Missing Link's design, not Susan's.

There was at least one person in another thread that bemoaned it

the title creature is absolutely hideous though

Can I ask why you feel that way, what in particular bothers you about it? It's just a average cartoon sasquatch to me, I don't get what people are hating since it's such a simple and typical design.

Laika should know what we like by now

Come on Travis you faggot

Would anyone here consider "Chicken Run" to be a classic/best of stop-motion film?

I can't see this until tomorrow but luckily I knew there'd be no spoilers in the thread because according to the box office numbers literally no one has seen it

there are no spoilers in the Hellboy threads either desu

Other user's points work, though now that I think about it, it's the ridiculously round head that's triggering me for some reason

the fat kid is gay and becomes a bara latino

the main issue is always the same Writing is not laika strong suit it'll never be their strong suit

>have increasingly ugly protagonists
>movies are less and less successful

really makes me think

Harmon is that you?

this
Paranorman has a ton of cringy moments, and Kubo is comically predictable. Oh man, the bugman is your dad? who would have guessed?!

I would.

Wonder how the fuck the sequel is gonna work

They said their next two movies (after Link) have adult protagonists. Hopibg for some stop frame cutie

Oi, you got a license for that shitpost?

Kubo and Coraline are literally the only good Laika films, and even then Kubo devolves into a fucking video game plot halfway through, and it was a poorly emulated "Find the 3 MacGuffins" plot from Coraline with the ghost children eyes.

>ParaNorman ends with the jock revealing he is gay
>Boxtrolls ads showing same sex marriage families
>Missing Link doing transgender nonsense with Link saying his name is "Susan" and "It suits you"

I hope Laika either grows bored or gets shamed to death for their flops and stops wasting everybody's time and theirs. Their stop motion has no soul anymore, its indistinguishable from CGI now. Thats not fucking something to be proud of you gits.

>All this Paranorman hate

It was fucking great

Boxtrolls was when they went off the rails

>Missing Link doing transgender nonsense with Link saying his name is "Susan" and "It suits you"
Imagine letting tumblr live in your head rent free like this.

It's just a joke since it's a woman's name and he's a giant ape man, take it easy on the red pill there.

It was a tonal mess

>I hope Laika either grows bored or gets shamed to death for their flops and stops wasting everybody's time and theirs.
As long as Nike is still in business, it'll never stop making stop-motion films. We can only hope they hire more experienced storytellers or adapt previous well-crafted stories.

>that Wondie

explain

...what would a Laika capeshit filn look like?

>stop-motion netflix

Dang I miss Buddy Thunderstruck

Dont want to see/10

same as Kubo

She's gonna get a face full of milk again

me too

Nope his got plenty of seasons of Rick and Morty ahead of him

>Wonder how the fuck the sequel is gonna work
haha what
>Chicken Run 2: Sequel confirmed after 18-year wait
HAHA WHAT

I fucking love Chicken Run

haven't you heard
it's going to be on toonami and all

Attached: chicken run 2.jpg (1920x1080, 284K)

>I told you they was organized!

joke's on you, I've been reading neverland for years so I already know the similarities end after the first arc. ...unless that's what the plot of chicken run 2 is going to be

Attached: file.png (426x597, 443K)

Kubo is nothing near capeshit. Defeating each villain by running away and then giving his grandfather amenisia was a weak ending. Just let Disney or Sony buy Laika and watch some stop-motion Spider-man.

Delet this

Chicken Run 2 having parallels with the post-escape arc of TPN would be surprisingly fitting.

no

the fact that they didn't need to adapt Mama's design is the funniest part

I thought they were going to do a few more Teenager protags before they did adults? I swear there was some article saying they were going to adapt some young adult book before Missing link was announced

>mfw they found a promised neverland at the end of the movie
>mfw it's the same as goldy pond

it all fits together far too well

Attached: file.png (1080x1390, 3.45M)

even the personalities are mostly the same

I was thinking the same, in terms of how appealing the characters are. They both took a step down compared their previous titles.

>claymation chicken goldy pond
hell yeah sign me up

Also there's tons of Coraline theory videos on youtube it's really interesting.

coraline theories of what

The Missing Link IS Susan.

>My post was removed
(((Yea Forums)))

I thought they decided before production to do it in CGI because of the water effects being too complicated for stop motion. I think the incident you're talking about is the mysterious fire that destroyed all the original Wallace and Gromit dolls and sets.

It was all on the documentary on Netflix.

well what did you post

Really? I live in bumfuck southern nowhere and even our Movie Theater had a limited showing for about half a week.

Goddamn, that is some really nice character design.

I like Paranorman but most of the good stuff happens near the beginning and end, the middle is kind of bland.

These designs look like shit wtf are you on.

How was the movie, anyway? I saw Hellboy instead, and I'm thinking I made a bad call.

Kubo is based in jap folklore you fucking mongoloid.

Iirc it was only in like 2k theaters nationwide.

It was alright, nothing amazing but not shit either.
Honestly hated the new Hellboy though, I preferred the older Guillermo del Toro one myself.

Honestly this.
It had its share of flaws, but the sets and colors make up for a lot of it.

Nah, they're nice compared to Laika's for sure. Darce looks like a Pixar character (like Carl Fredricksen crossed with the Spider-Verse Kingpin), the older kid is fujoshi bait and has a pretty face and Wirt-ish appeal, the middle lady is striking and Burton-esque, the little kid is kind of ugly but he looks like he's maybe supposed to be retarded. They all have really strong silhouettes and defined shapes to their faces and they just don't look "off" in the way all of Laika's do.

>Little that high
>That entire fucking list

Is this really the way cinema is going?

Based Travis Knight keeping Laika alive

So why is Laika trying to do a mainstream movie, anyway? Did their investor finally run out of shoe money?

>Kids don't like big, stupid, smell, hairy, dumb things. They like hyperactive, little, cute things.
>Nobody is going to relate to that piece of shit. Nobody is going to sympathize with it.
Beauty and the Beast would like a word with you.

If my movies were following a consistent downward trend of dwindling box office receipts despite all having good critical reception and Nike-funded ad campaigns I would try to figure out the puzzle of why people weren’t coming out to see them too.
That being said, other than having a non-spooky and comedic tone I don’t see what about Missing Link appeals to normies. It’s really not following any trend in terms of premise or characters, if it were CGI I think it’d be met with the same amount of “meh” from general audiences (if not more, only reason I’m going is because it’s stop-mo and I like their other stuff). With the way the marketing positioned it The Boxtrolls is still the most they’ve tried to pander with how the ads pushed them as pseudo-Minions, though the movie was actually a weird, British, sort of Monty Python inspired thing

why bother investing on a movie when they're not spending a dime on publicity? I didn't even knew Laika made another film until this thread

I didn't even realize it had been released yet.

>caring about a single throwaway reveal at the very very ass end of the movie
>caring about a single lesbian couple being shown for 5 seconds in an ad, not even in the movie itself
>the insane mental gymnastics necessary to come to the conclusion that bigfoot naming himself "susan" is propaganda
your mind is poisoned

Unironically this. I'm a fan of Laika but when I saw that this was their next film I had no interest.

their last few movies have all had similar modest budgets and they all made money and usually get some form of critical acclaim or award nominations. The guy who owns Laika is insanely loaded and does not need them to make gangbusters as the studio is clearly a passion project first and a revenue source second. they do need to get better writers though.

Not that user but I hold the same opinion.
Kubo seemed way to breakneck in it's pacing expecting to force an emotional response out of the audience despite barely even giving the viewer a reason to care about the characters first, the whole film felt like someone was hurrying the script along and by the time it was over I felt like I missed about twenty minutes or so.
Box Trolls meanwhile does a pretty good job of establishing it's cast and setting and it's pacing is much better.
I personally never understood why people seem to hate it.
I still liked Kubo I just liked Box Trolls better.

they always do mainstream movies

if they're a passion project then why did Missing Link apparently was a normie bait?

who knows maybie it was a Pixar thing where they started the studio with several ideas and they finally got to the bigfoot one Frank pitched years ago.

Animators and Storytellers who can't break the mold of "Animation is just for children, so we have to make family movies". They could pick any genre, but they stick with family movies

>And Paranorman is not even close to Coraline's quality.
Talk about absolutely shit opinions.

Remember that the Catholic church has recognized evolution for years and that by denying the observable process by which God allows organisms to evolve you are spitting on His name and His works.

it has a decent story, but the direction is kinda meh
It could be tighter altogether, but a lot of screentime feels empty
Coraline is a solid 10 throughout the movie, Paranorman is an 8.5 or a 9 if you look at all the elements separately

>mixing an afternoon special about anti-bullying with a story about a little girl being hanged for being a witch

This, they should try to adapt other books or even get Gaiman again for a Sandman movie

>Catholic church
Nice joke.

Disney has the rights to The Graveyard Book and it was going to be directed by Selick but now it seems that if it ever gets made it’s going to be pretty lame typical Disney live-action disposable junk.
Laika would have done a good job with it. I also wish they would have gotten the rights to Anya’s Ghost and just done a straight from the page adaptation, the narrative is just the right length for a 90 minute movie and would require no additions to be satisfying. But again, got snatched up by another studio to be done in live action (though that seems to have stalled also)

Dont forget he saved the Transformers franchise

saved it by making a flop that China hates?

This show has 9 seasons.

And they never found shit

Attached: more likely to find a meth shack or hillbilly rapists.jpg (250x141, 8K)

How did it have 9 seasons like wtf did they even talk about or show

>"Team we got a report of a Bigfoot sighting in -insert state with cheapest flights-"
>Interview poor low-income witnesses
>Reenact their stories with bad CGI
>At night, go into the woods and make Bigfoot mating noises
>Mysteriously hear a similar mating call that's not totally another cameraman or producer in the woods
>"Yep this place definitely has bigfoots"

Rinse and repeat. The ultimate blueball show.

Laika's ""stop motion"" is a meme. Support Aardman instead

Kubo was cute as though

Get fucked Aardman

Are really such a brainlet you couldn't see the parallels

>Neil tells Norman that if he was bigger and stronger, what reason would there be for him to not be a bully as well
>Aggie cast the curse because she wanted to make the judge and accusers suffer like they made her suffer

>being misunderstood and mistreated by society for a generational trait
>Both norman and Aggie are attacked for things out of their control, similar situations despite being hundreds of years apart

>Norman and Aggie have to learn that hurting the people that wronged you won't undo the damage they've done, just diminish their own goodness

I didn't say story problems, I said tonal problems
learn to comprehend

It was obvious the moment we found out that the witch could see and interact with dead people that Normal was being paralleled to her.

It's NOT CGI? I thought it was a CGI movie from the posters
