1) Watch/ read all the compilations provided. 2) there are 8 in total and will be posted after this post. 3) If you did never read Marvels Transformers give your first impressions. 4) Rate if you agree or disagree: Who is a better leader of the Decepticons Megatron or Shockwave? strawpoll.me/17807258 Was Marvels Megatron competent? strawpoll.me/17807275 Was Marvels Shockwave competent? strawpoll.me/17807282
So OP here. I made this thread because i did never read any Megatron stories in G1 I remember Shockwave and how badass he was.
So I decided to read G1 from start. To my surprise apparently the writers must have hated megatron because they made him do stupid crap. The writers must have decided to apparently make Megatron the joke character to show how great Shockwave is.
I think Megatron literally going insane and blowing himself up in his insanity was the moment when I abandoned all hope for this character.
I mean its not like its the problem of the medium since they managed to give all the great stories to Shockwave. Yet they did go out of their way to portray Megatron as stupid or insane or simply being crap.
I have no idea why? I decided to create these compilations.
I'm waiting for some constructive discussion.

Rule one of Yea Forums thou shall not say bad things about Megatron.
Wyatt Long
How do you actually read this?
Evan Jackson
The left side is my summery of what is going on with panels who most show this. The Right side are the actual panels with most content to show it all in context. I remove sub plots who are intertwined with the story or redundant panels.

Did anyone take these strawpolls?

Jack Diaz

Can we simply talk about how Megatron/Shockwave was portrayed in Marvel?
Dominic Martin
Megatron in Marvel was a chump who never did a damn thing. Literally every other Decepticon leader was better than him.
Grayson Campbell
>Megatron in Marvel Did the writers hate Megatron? Or what?
Brody Barnes
Eh, more like they had to kick him out to meet Hasbro's demands.
Ethan Russell
>Hasbro's demands. Tell me more about it. Why was Megatron not purged from the cartoon like this? I'm actually interested.
Evan Brown
He was purged. He died in the movie. Technically.
Whatever Hasbro wants the comic and cartoon to promote, or not promote, they had to. Megatron was written out of the comic right around the time of the movie, because his toy was no longer being sold.
Jeremiah Thomas
Ah this explains a lot thanks.
Someone have a timeline of Megatron toy decline with the comics and cartoon?
>He died in the movie I know only there are more dignified ways to handle Megatron going away then what the comics did.
I mean Megatron was in the comics for a long time and he was basically there to make Shockwave look great.
I doubt anyone can imagine what pants on retarded Megatron was. You can not get more crazy then going insane and shooting at everything for no reason whatsoever and blowing up the space bridge you are standing on.
Are the recent IDW comics any good? Never grew up with Transformers.
Austin Bailey
Well, lets see. The movie came out August 1986. Issue 25 came out October 1986. And his toy was discontinued in 1987 (unless you did that special "collect enough points and mail away for it). And he never really left the UK comic, but they did their own thing and didn't care much about toy shilling.
Isaac Cox
>August 1986. Issue 25 came out October 1986 I'm impressed thanks for this info.
I was more interested when exactly the order to get rid of Megatron started.
Because after Shockwave arrived Megatron was incompetent, he was hanging around all the time to the point that one full book was basically about Megatron getting stuck in gun mode and some criminal using him for a gun.
So this looks strange that Marvel US decided to make stories like this.
There was definitively a Megatron obsession in the comics.
Michael Rodriguez
>Megatron getting stuck in gun mode and some criminal using him for a gun. What was up with this?
