Let's Discuss This Movie. Please.
Let's Discuss This Movie. Please
I don't remember it.
All I know of it is some video of some guy trying to call the white cat and fuck her
Danny was being a melodramatic cunt for trying to scat during darla's arc segment.
I WANNA FUCK THAT CAT
It was a pretty toothless indictment of racism in Golden Age Hollywood. The animation was pretty, but the time constraints kept it from fleshing out the story beyond a superficial level.
That's pretty much it. Nothing else to discuss, really.
Been forever. All I remember now is the Big and Loud musical number.
I’d fuck Danny tbqh
Same
BIG
AND
LOUD
what would you do to the little girl?
I unironically love this movie
wonderful villains.
It's a very nice film. Not sure what else to say about it. Danny and Sawyer are cute together and Darla is an endearing little shit. Big & Loud is kino.
Nothing because she’s ugly, annoying and creepy
It's a bad movie. The songs aren't even good. I only watched it for the loli
just to emphasize my point I am re-watching it
those thighs are big and loud
Thank you. Like that wasn't his fucking line. What kind of asshole just moves to Hollywood and assumes they'll land a big role in a fucking blockbuster film and get mad when you've got a bit part as an extra with one line. Makes him seem like an entitled cunt, honestly.
Sorry pal, but it'll get buried by the 5-6 pages of Steven Universe threads that the SUfags constantly spam on here. Yea Forums absolutely hates anything of actual quality to note unless its capeshit, and Yea Forums especially hates anything furry.
For those who don't know, the OP is talking about the movie Cats Don't Dance. Check it out, it's good shit.
He didn't even get mad about it, he was just really happy to get some work in at all immediately after arriving.
Great songs, fun animation. One of my faves.
I absolutely love how dramatic the soundtrack becomes during the scenes with Max, like his introduction, flooding the stage, and the theatre scene.
It just seems so unfittingly intimidating for such a goofy movie.
Eh, he was pretty naive and in the moment, he was happy to be there
Maybe his Midwest origins away from Hollywood made him not realize everyone starts low and works up and fuck the right people to get to the top. He’s just lucky he made out good, his type are the ones that get eaten alive in Hollywood
I still love the imagery of him breaking through the wall and all you see is the hole. He's just already there. And when he leaves he just leaves behind wisps of smoke.
The animation is just plain entertaining to look at. It's a very rewatchable film because there's always so much visually fun stuff going on.
The movie doesn't paint him as right for doing that; Sawyer pointed out he was wrong from the get-go.
It's the old trope of 2 extremes finding a happy medium. Danny is completely naive while Sawyer is burnt out & cynical, and when they put their heads together they get a more practical perspective.
Still, even as a kid I wished Danny would tone it down and make less of an ass of himself.
black people
>That rabbit waifu in the background
He was just trying to punch up the performance, which isn't exactly bad, he just went well beyond what was even remotely reasonable for his performance, upstaging Darla
A fun, underrated movie. I should rewatch it.
fpbp
Great movie, main character was kinda generic though. I'd watch it again.
I wonder what kind of work Darla found after she got thrown out. Hopefully she put those thick legs to use.
That scene was the first time I ever remember feeling second hand embarrassment as a child.
I liked it, but I remembered it being a bit darker, though. Like, I rewatched it last year, and as a kid I remembered scenes where the elephant gets arrested for no reason and everyone goes to jail and sings a sad prison "we're in jail" song and I also remembered a scene where Danny thought of killing himself after he's released from prison and holding a noose. I was surprised those scenes weren't there. I seriously remember seeing those scenes as a kid and thinking "Well, that's insanely messed up" and remember them quite vividly. Watching it again it seemed rather bare-bones, like half the movie was cut and it barely resembled the thing I saw as a child.
we needed SOME WAY to protect your little innocent eyes from watching edgy humor or whatever.
>Cats Don't Dance
>Iron Giant
>Treasure Planet
>Ernest and Celestine
Why is it that the cartoon movies that appeal to me end up being financial flops
Sounds like you may be getting parts of Cats Don't Dance mixed up with another movie, like Robin Hood.
>What kind of asshole just moves to Hollywood and assumes they'll land a big role in a fucking blockbuster film
Everyone.
Fan theory is that it's the prequel to Bojack Horseman
eh, it ain't Disney
I love it
I love Cats Don't Dance to death but this post is 100% right. You don't just start improv dancing and singing right in the middle of a shoot and not expect to get fucking yelled at. Like, I get he had good intentions and was just naive about how the process works, but it was still an overall dumb move.
Why the unholy fuck they let him back on set, I don't know.
Eh I mean as second hand embarrassment producing as the scene it does make a little sense, Danny wanted to be a star in a film and he basically wanted to create the best impression he could with his first role, one basically handed to him for free on his first day in Hollywood
Plus for some odd reason, there weren't any other Cats to take the roll instead of him
>Plus for some odd reason, there weren't any other Cats to take the roll instead of him
That was weird. You'd think that'd be a more common animal in an urban setting.
I used to watch this movie on vhs all the time. Glad other people remember it too
Nani?
YES the animation, holy shit. It's like they let the animators actually animate. I hate cartoons where the writers are all a bunch of bitter losers who wanted to do live action but got stuck doing cartoons. This movie was obviously made by people who actually like cartoons.
That's not how you create a good first impression tho. He should have just stuck to his script, done a few bland roles and then get in on a subversive indie film a few years later for cred and worked up from there, he's lucky they didn't blacklist his ass
Reminder that the original concept for this movie was an animation/live action hybrid starring Michael Jackson
Criminally underrated.
The movie was awkward because it's about an adult problem (getting a job/landing it in Hollywood) told through Looney Tunes-tier characters.
Then there's the problem with the pacing and content which most of these dialogue-driven emotional adult movies have.
There isn't enough content. The movie should at the very least had 60 to 90 more minutes worth of content. The plot was boring and tragic. If it had more fun like SING! then it would have had more support to step on.
>Cat wants to land it big in Hollywood, but everyone won't let him/pink bitch won't let him.
The movie is similar in pacing to the PPG movie and Fearless Four which have slow as fuck middles with very rushed beginnings and endings.
I think I've watched a dozen movies about adult-themes like getting a job executed far more gracefully and with more content in it.
Danny was DeeDee tier. Hell every cartoon character like that is Dee Dee tier.
This is one of the most autistic comments I've seen this week congrats
Stop Typing Like This You 12 Year Old
If this bitch had a more good looking design, a better voice actor and a more depthful personality beyond "spiteful jealous bitch who pretends to be nice but is "secretly" a dick" then the movie would have improved. Maybe if she had more sympathy and was more suave like Rapunzel's step mother Gothel then yeah.
I disagree with everything about this post.
I can’t tell if this would be campy fun or the worst thing ever
S H O R T
S T A C K
Loved the movie as a kid. Almost always watched it on CN when they replayed it. Danny, much as I like him, was kind of a fool during the first scene but I like commentary the movie had, especially when you know the time the movie takes place.
Jesus Christ Lauren
when I first saw this movie as a kid, I felt bad for the cat but after rewatching this clip, I realize that he was an upstaging dickhead.
Lauren likes the ladies
What's this from?
You have to be 18 to post here, kiddo.
Why did Sawyer have a white VA for speaking but a black VA for singing?
Natalie Cole is a very talented singer but probably not an amazing actor, whereas Jasmine Guy is the opposite
Gorgeous animation and excellent comedic timing. when mark dindal showed some restraint, like he did in this film and emperor's new groove, he made sone solid, genuinely funny films. Too bad he's been blacklisted. :s
Quit being a cunt and post the link.
The movie is more about racism in 1930’s hollywood, but yeah.
more fun to draw. men are all hard angles
Her speaking voice was Jasmine Guy.....she's also black. She was best known for being the lead women in A Different world, a black comedy in the 90's.
>Natalie Cole is a very talented singer
You are downplaying her as an artist. Natalie Cole was a legendary jazz singer.

>Danny doesn’t get blacklisted for his shit
>Mark gets so from working at Disney

Let's Discuss The Far Superior Film, Please.
Everything you said is wrong
If I remember correctly, the reason it flopped was largely because this was completed at the the cusp of when Disney bought out Turner Studios and this was Turner films final film, So Disney decided to release it anyway with little to no advertisement or fanfare and decided to pocket any money made in the way.
pic unrelated
>the villain was Shirley Temple
Made me laugh even as a kid.
I love how god damn skinny he is
Best twink material
wait that was her VA?
i use to watch that show with my mom as a kid and i never picked that up
Don't forget Osmosis Jones and Brave Little Toaster.
It's funny how, despite being a white cat, I'd totally see a humanized Sawyer as black.
Oh yeah and Monster House too.
Well, I stand corrected.
The whole movie is supposed to be an allegory for racist 1930's Hollywood and white washing so that's natural. All the animal characters are suppose to represent minorities.
higher appreciation for the medium is all, the usual. most people aren't going to go out of their way to watch cartoon movies unless their kid wants to drag them to it
the average experience with feature length animation is limited to disney and dreamworks, seeing as those are the only two companies that managed to establish enough of a foothold to be able to afford marketing their animations.
Only reason why Treasure Planet flopped really. Not only was the marketing sparse, it relied on all the wrong selling points. I believe it actually contained spoilers even
Why am I just now knowing this? I need to find this movie again.
the cat and the little girl make the small peepee into the big peepee
I don't even mind that scene in particular, I just really disliked Danny's character in general. Usually I tend to enjoy optimistic carefree characters, but something about Danny rubbed me the wrong way. I think it might be some of his first scenes, and how oblivious he was about the fact that he kept irritating the hell out of Sawyer.
Shit like this convinces me there's no such thing as a free market.
Is there any humanized art of the animal characters? I'd assume they'd all be minorities and such to keep with the theme.
Those were the days...
>Danny is perfect husband material
>Sawyer is perfect wife material
>I can't have either
Hot waffles
There's no free market now user.
I still love it but I wish it was longer.
Does anyone have the full image of this thumbnail?
Underappreciated animation gems are some of the best stuff.
Not as great as people remember, but still pretty good. Any "love-letter to the film industry" feels like masturbation. Most of the side-characters were annoying as hell. Two leads and villain were decent. Some of the best dance numbers of the 90s, the music itself was fun and energetic.
Yes
is this official or fan-made? google search turns up nothing
Oh wait, no I don't
I like the way you think, user
Well, for starters you can provide a 1080p download so I can finally see this damn movie. Then I can discuss it.
To this day I get mad they did that because Jasmine Guy can sing. I get they wanted a rub from Natalie Cole because she was a high commodity but it feels off.
Anybody got that pic of Sawyer as a jungle girl?
Nigga don't tell me how I remember a movie.
I watch Cats Don't Dance regularly and I love it just as much as I did as a kid.
You remember incorrectly, you should see a therapist to address those issues.
>Cat's Don't Dance is on Vudu
Oh shit nigga let me get comfy and watch this shit RIGHT NOW.
I never saw the full size image. I got the thumbnail from the archive. The original post was and the filename was CDD2.jpg.
Cute character.
Sawyer would've made a better protagonist.
shit now i kinda want to see this in 3d
When I read Artemis Fowl, I pictured Butler to look like Max from this movie.
True.
Terry Crews basically had the same situation. He showed up on set (security guard reasons) and the director saw him and asked him to be on set. Terry Crews did a good job and was asked back on set for pick related scene. Terry Crews didn't get a FUCKING Dime for training day but he knew the movie was going to be big.
Clearly you aren't with it user, this is what Butler was supposed to look like.
>spiteful jealous bitch who pretends to be nice but is "secretly" a dick"
She's a jab at Shirley Temple, so yes it's justified. A little girl with that kinda power is a holy bitch incarnate
literally would've been an oscar winner during #oscarsowhite
and that is what makes it so grand
I liek Randy Newman
>subversive indie film
did they even have that in 1939
'Metropolis' (1927) ?
A lot of stuff was still from the big production studios but there were smaller studios (which I guess is independent) and more campy releases from bigger studios, especially related to horror
Lots of ways for Danny to build his way into Hollywood from smaller roles and then smaller movies
>Cute little kitty love child holding a used needle.
Thats both hilarious and fucked up at the same time.
I remember renting this from Blockbuster.
It’s a Chipotle now.
>You ever see "Cat's Don't Dance"?
>Nope. Is it anything like "OP Can't Score"?
>It can't be; there's too much pussy in it.
>OHOHOHOHOHO!
The VHS or the Blockbuster?
The 90's were a weird time. Makes me wonder if other character artist did this for the characters they were in charge of.
Its Lauren Faust. She's behind all the jokes in original Powerpuff Girls too. That lady has a sense of humor.
Definitely not indie.
kekles
witnessed
>"love-letter to the film industry"
did you even watch the movie?
it was a movie about discrimination in hollywood, and to a lesser extent corporate sabotage
The movie literally starts with a guy being absolutely convinced he's going to make it in Hollywood only to land a bit part and be told he's not worth anything.
If you want a love letter to old Hollywood, see Hail Caesar
Fan made.
More specifically, the artist is Shelley Pleger. She ran a CDD fansite(inactive for almost a whole decade) and when Yahoo Groups were a thing she ran a CDD-themed group, there the pic mentioned was one of the pieces. Never displayed anywhere else as far as I know.
Shame I never saved it myself.
Where did you find this
They absolutely did, animators are fucking weirdos. They kind of have to be in order to get by in the industry.
I remember her. Really talented. I hope she's getting work.
Samus had a hard life
Thanks for the info, user!
The free market best operates under the assassin creed: nothing is true everything is permitted.
Apparently there's a Cats Don't Dance Reanimated project going on.
twitter.com
Close, it was WB that bought out Turner.
O fug
Did this movie ever get a HD release?
My body is ready, I loved this shit as a kid.
better be big
The closest thing it ever got was a widescreen DVD archives release back in 2016.
so much work just to make everything look worse
Too bad the VA's voice and the singing voice was so jarringly different. They could've tried to make it sound a bit more natural.. :(
It’s the effort and different styles brought to it that count
HUGE fan of this movie and it hurts knowing it was self sabotaged by the Studio and failed.
Yes she can sing, and has been doing Broadway musicals for years. But she's still no Natalie Cole.
>YFW seeing Big and Loud for the first time
The Blockbuster
The fansite mentioned earlier, for those who didn't know of it.
Self sabotaged? ...
I don’t remember the story, but it was probably one of those times that went something like:
>Studio A is working on a movie of a certain genre/medium
>Studio B makes its own kind of movies in this genre/medium, that competes with the kind of movie Studio A is making
>for some unforeseen reason, Studio B buys out Studio A, and the now nearly completed but not yet released movie belongs to Studio B now, even though their people didn’t make it
>Studio B still considers their now newly acquired movie to be competition with their pre-existing departments
>they still need to release the movie, but they don’t want it to do well
>so, they purposefully fail to advertise the movie/advertise it poorly and release it in a bad timeslot, causing it to fail >they then pretend it did poorly because it was made by Studio A’s people, and use this to justify a bunch of or some shit
I think I hear this kinda stuff happens in the entertainment industry all the time. Not sure if that’s specifically what happened with Cats Don’t Dance, but whatever it was was probably equally dumb.
WB bought out Turner Animation around the time the film finished production, so WB could dump the film into theaters with minimal advertising since they put no money down on the project itself, meaning all sales are pure profit
Why has Mark Dindal had an unfortunate career?
>First this fucking tanks
>Then Emperors New Groove flops
>Then Chicken Little makes money but no one likes it
>Now years later he’s doing a Garfield movie I'm sure no one asked for
Ah fuck, I wish I'd known! I wanna join.
The Emperor's New Groove wasn't a flop; disappointment, yes, but not a flop.
I want to see 70's Animalotation films.
This movie with some Chipotle sounds good about now
I think you mean cute and funny
Jesus fucking christ
I'd be a bitch too if every time I misbehaved I was put into a black box to sit on an ice block for however long they felt necessary.
Good god. Shes has to be a super pear bbw by now
>put into a black box to sit on an ice block
Pardon?
"In her autobiography, Temple recalls the film series as "a cynical exploitation of our childish innocence." If any of the two dozen children in Baby Burlesks misbehaved, they were locked in a windowless sound booth dubbed the “punishment box,” where they’d be forced to sit on a block of ice. Temple was sent to the box several times, but she says, "far as I can tell, the black box did no lasting damage to my psyche. Its lesson of life, however, was profound and unforgettable. Time is money. Wasted time means wasted money means trouble."
She underwent a lot of abuse from crazy hollywood execs. Including having a dick shoved in her face multiple times as a child.
Damn, I guess the more things change the more they stay the same with Hollywood.
Sawyer's voice is literally god-tier
No shame, she was my first anthro crush.
I love Mae West Caricatures.
Good taste.
Terry crews at least looked like a tough guy/gangster so he could easily fill those roles without saying or doing anything while Danny is suppose to just be a regular guy so he would've just been stuck being a background character forever and become jaded like the others.
Max was fucking amazing.
They did a good job making him not look like the 3D model he was.
I bet he was a shaved king kong
I have to say I adored Sawyer. She was legitimately hilarious. It's like the entire universe decided to shit on her.
He really was desu
AWWW SHIT, THIS IS STILL IN MY BACKLOG
Thanks for reminding me.
and loud even
3D? It's been a while since I watched the film, but I could've sworn he was regular 2D.
Hey its Darla's fault for not bringing her A game in a 2bit movie. If anything she should always be good just like she explains in her big and loud song
>Baby Burlesks
Who the fuck makes something called a Baby Burlesk?
Thank ya, I can't recall when, but I know it was when Cartoon Network was replaying the WB movies at the time.
Scared me at first, but now I just see him as a silent juggernaut.
1995 was 24 years ago buddy.
Best ship coming through!
Probably the kind of people who push their dicks to little girl's face
That's a huge bitch!
Danny is getting fucking destroyed if they fuck
I like Danny but I agree, he was a cunt for interrupting the set and busting out into scat. It was rude to the other actors as well.
This too.
Yeah this sounds like what this cast would go through if this movie wasn’t just they magically get roles
