Episode written by the worst writer on the Crewniverse

>Episode written by the worst writer on the Crewniverse
>Has nothing to do with the actual show
>Characters out OoC and become mouthpieces for the writer to grind their axe with
>Begins and ends with nothing actually having changed, to the point that you could completely omit watching it and the rest of the series doesn't suffer at all
>Somehow still ends up being praised as one of the greatest moments in the series and one of the highest rated episodes of the season
I don't get it Yea Forums, seriously why do you guys like Keystone Motel so much?

Remember how SU fags found the actual keystone motel and started bombarding it with 1 star reviews while referencing this episode?

Nobody discusses individual SU episodes here, nevermind old ones like Keystone Motel, so where did you deduce that Yea Forums likes Keystone Motel so much?

>characters act OOC
?

I want to rewatch the show but as OP mentioned, I don't want to have to waste so much time.
Makes me wonder if some superfan could compile a list of definitive episodes that explicitly cuts out filler.
Even if it were possible to make a recut of the series down to a minimally relevant watchlist.

i wouldn't say
>one of the greatest moments in the series and one of the highest rated episodes of the season
but it was a fine episode
Ruby and Sapphire weren't acting OOC, and they weren't mouthpieces for anything
the episode ends with Garnet not giving Pearl the complete cold shoulder, and generally stopped bugging out, so there was a bit of progress—it's brought up again in Friend Ship
>I fell apart over this. Ruby and Sapphire were in turmoil over how you deceived me. I came undone...

I liked all the Sardonyx episodes, but I will say Keystone Motel is the worst of the bunch

They don't act OOC, Ruby and Sapphire have no character besides flirting with each other

You literally described every none story related episode in SU.
It's a flaw hardcord fans ignore and try to defend.
It's what some autistic tranny made a 2 hour video about.

I like it for the Greg.

There's a guide on TV tropes but there really aren't that many "filler" episodes per season. Yea Forums would have you believe there's like 12 townie episodes per season when even the worst season in that regard only has half of that.

Anyway I'm sperging here's the guide tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/JustForFun/StevenUniverse

The only person I would say is out of character is Steven towards the very end. Kid is way to empathic to actually think that Ruby and Sapphire fighting because of how they felt over Pearl was somehow about him. Maybe if he was six or something I'd believe it, but not out of 14 year old Jesus.

Current Steven is, but S2 Steven still had some of his naive traits.

i thought Ruby being so mad was kinda cute

plus greg was great as always

>"if i'm not back in an hour...call the police"

Ruby considers herself expendable and little more than worthless. She felt that way before meeting Sapphire, and even after 5000 years of relationship she still brings it up time to time. Ruby pretty much resents herself. It's just not as obvious as Amethyst's self-loathing.

Steven is in every episode, even when he shouldn't be and other characters should have the chance have a story. They have to write him in otherwise he's just there.

Steven tends to blame himself for everything

>Maybe if he was six or something I'd believe it, but not out of 14 year old Jesus.
It was their cheap lazy way of trying to relate to kids of divorced parents. That should've been obvious.

To be fair, for characters that live for millennia they don't change that much. 5000 years seems like a lot for beings who only exist for under 100.

>Everyone here loved SU
>S2 ends
>80% of Yea Forums now hate SU
Its amazing how this show turned out and boy , all the shit from that episode.
>bad reviews
>dead threats

> Divorced
His mom is dead.

This. Greg was great in the episode.

Yes, but in that case Steven inferred correctly to some extent, while in Motel, he was totally off and only served to derail the conversation. I get it if the writing threw more shades at Steven's attempts to soothe their tension having backlashes that he felt responsible for, but it felt more clear that their tension was about Pearl and themselves. Steven, like in Joy Ride, has been shown to be able to pick up some of these nuances, though I guess his intelligence varies like Homer Simpson's for the convenience of a particular episode's plot.

He’s got a pretty big martyr complex,

That's why him and Connie fell out in the first place after he got back from Homeworld. Could've fused (and still lost mind you) but nope he's having a panic attack on the floor of the spaceship instead about MUH MOTHER.

Dewey Wins was still crap, not making excuses for it

the tumblrette that keeps spamming faggot universe threads needs to go back to the shithole he came from

I mean obviously, but that doesn't mean it wasn't out of character.

like I get that you guys don’t wanna sacrifice for eachother, but this was like 15 people, sometimes you gotta make a sacrifice so others won’t get hurt

Amethyst, Jasper, Rose, Ruby...is self hatred the only trait Rebecca knows?

I don't
I feel so sorry for the owners of that motel

out of character

She knows what she is

Wasn't this the first time we saw Ruby and Sapphire's fire and ice powers?

>Jasper
>self hatred

I think so. On another separate note, there's Sapphire's super speed if you want to count Jailbreak. Sunstone uses it in Change Your Mind.

Definitely. If Steven was just like "yeah OK I broke that promise we made to fight together the second it got tested" I'm sure Connie wouldn't have cared, but whatever it's a moot point. Thank fuck she pulled her weight in CYM is all I'm saying

According to Sugar, yep

She has a speech later that very episode that kind of gives it away, no need to dip into the interview stuff.

>have no character
Bullshit, you may not like the characters but they have personality, Ruby is tomboy and explosive while saphire is always polite and closed.

The problem is that there's very few episodes that are entirely filler.
Usually only most of the episode is filler, and there's a minute or two of actual plot or something important for the future being established so no episode is skippable.

Depends on what you count as "filler". Usually it's just a bullshit term for "thing I don't like" and SU has a lot of character development episodes that don't necessarily develop the main cast so it's easy to see why people would brush those off. They're not all winners but I'd rather have that than nothing at all (or gemxtownie episodes like Letters to Lars which was a lot of fun).

Entirely justified given his legacy.

>theres no way she'd accept help
>Unless its to fuse to win a fight

Attached: Saitama_OK.jpg (375x305, 29K)

That wasn’t accepting help because it wasn’t never offered. She took it, and could justify it since she made the rules

I mean episodes like Steven Floats.
Steven learns he can float. He uses this ability a lot later on, but the majority of the episode is just shenanigans with him falling.
Or Gem Harvest, which establishes Andy existing, which becomes important later, but the episode is just 22 minutes of boring.

>22 minutes of boring
>Fucking Dave Willis is there
You should be ashamed of yourself

Accepting offered help, and asking for help from another is a very thin difference.

Oh right. I actually loved Steven Floats for various reasons but you're right that Gem Harvest didn't need to be a 22min special. I swear I remember reading that the crew didn't want that either but CN wanted some kind of holiday special and that's how it ended up that long. It's probably bullshit but it's literally the only reason it makes sense to me.

It was more taking, that corrupted Gem was struggling against her and she demanded Lapis fuse with her.

Fusion is cheating desu she only made the fights fair. her two-gem fusion took a four-gem fusion so they cheated further

For you.

You can blast through the entirety of the show reading the episode descriptions off Encyclopedia Dramatica and not miss anything of actual importance.

The way I rationalized it was that Steven was the who ratted out pearl, and that if he never ratted out pearl they wouldn't have found out and still be together

>ED
>In the year of our lord two thousand and eighteen plus one
>Advocating being a lazy faggot and reading descriptions

They're eleven minute episodes, just put them on in the background or whatever.

How does Ruby's voice 'actor' get work?

People only liked it because it was the second time Ruby and Sapphire were the focus.
Little did they know how it would turn out later.

About the same? It's not as if R+S got any worse after that. Them fucking things up in Hit the Diamond was treated as a problem, not something positive.

>local bully not so tough after catching Gem AIDS

Her arc was
>hating herself for failing her Diamond and losing the war she was made for and being from Earth, constantly trying to prove she's better than everyone else and acting super independent and wanting to defeat Rose Quartz to make up for it, hating fusions and being a lonely bitch with no friends because she believes relying on others is a sign of weakness
to
>"the crystal gems beat me but I can't accept this loss or else I prove that I'm a worthless failure, so I will go against my beliefs and use fusion as a last resort to beat them"
to
>getting torture fusion raped for months on end and becoming mentally fucked into wanting to go back to it (the first red flag that she has low self worth and no self respect) because she now feels like she needs malachite to help her feel strong and beat the crystal gems
to
>"I can't beat the crystal gems alone and lapis rejected me so I will resort to building a mindless corrupted gem army"
to
>quickly turning to fusing with a corrupted gem as a desperate attempt to avoid a loss to smoky squartz, failing and getting rejected by the corrupted gem, laughing at herself when she realizes nobody wants to stay fused with her because she in unsurprised and sees herself as a pathetic failure, rationalizes it as proof that she is unwanted and as worthless as she's always feared, rejecting steven's help because her self worth is at an all time low and she thinks she deserves to be corrupted
