I was just taking a look through his blog and if you only looked at his old posts you would think he was someone who knew how to make appealing drawings, but if you look at his current stuff you would think all those past writings were ghostwritten and all those drawings were ghostdrawings. Only from surface level. if you actually look at a UPA short, you'll see they have a better understanding of color management and timing within the limited animation format.
None of John's designs in even look like they mesh together. Maybe that was intentional, i don't know, but I somehow doubt it. The movement certainly isn't anything UPA would do.
