I'm glad Oscar has such a good friend in Hedgehog, that's the kinda feels we need in cartoons today, not all girls being a scary hostile mystery. On the other hand, he obviously needs her because this kid would make Doug look like Lord Flashheart without her support.
I could do without the gay ghosts but at least the show has some semblance of stakes, unlike say OK KO where you're taken right out of the action by the wackiness.
The strangest thing about this show is that in any other, and I mean ANY other show, we would have gotten names for all the other campers right away. Instead, we get the main two, the main antagonist, VERY few others do anything major in the first 9 episodes at least (that's as far as I've seen) and the rest are just sorta... present. Part of the group of either campers or witches. Meanwhile the ones who would normally be tertiary get major representation right away: the monsters, the weird little critters, the living inanimate objects.. It sorta puts you in Oscar's head, from his perspective those are the things that matter most.

I was pleasantly suprised actually.

i thought it was really nice, was much better than i was expecting from the fucking pilot. i'm glad i decided to give the show a chance because i really enjoyed it. i hope that it does slowly become more darker because i really like julia's darker-toned shorts. i don't want it to get edgy or take over the main tone of the show, but i'd like to see it grow more darker and unsettling undertones, the last episode seemed to be setting that up a little more so i hope that's the direction they take.

Ok so I've started watching this and it's definitely and improvement over the pilot but the show feels pretty uneventful, especially after a few first episodes, like they can't decide if it wants to be a preschooler show or not.

Why is nobody talking about how funny this show is? Sure, the furry shit, borderline femdom and sensual kid voices are very nice for their specific audience, but this show is actualy good too.

If you pay attention, in amost every frame there's some absurdist joke going on at least in the background. The jokes are actually clever and they don't rely on the same sort of humor time after time like most cartoons do nowadays. It's good, not great, but good. I particularly enjoyed the time travel episode. I would prefer it if it got the tiniest shade darker. Not grimdark but a little bit more nascent threat. At the moment it's very vanilla and possibly aiming just a little too low on the age scale. I'm really not sure who the target audience is for this? Seems too babyish for young teens. Also what is it with summer camps as a setting they seem to be everywhere these days? Is it nostalgia?

While I agree it could be darker, it seems that the first half of the first season (what we have available to us) is mainly for exposition. It wasn't until the latest episode we've gotten a hint of real lore, so that's a good sign to be hopeful for the rest of the first season. As for camp, Julia said it was specifically chosen because being away from home is a kid's first real experience in being in uncomfortable, different surroundings, and she wanted to explore that kind of an environment.

That was the entire point of the mid-season finale. When Hedgehog is telling Oscar that she stood up to her dad, we can see in the flashback Jim hanging up the phone on his end, and then looking out the window to see a different father playing with his kid. It has a strong impact and reflects just how bad their father-daughter relationship is. Jim views Hedgehog as a junior manager, not a daughter.

The one problem with my theory is that her dad gave into her asking to stay at SCI.

Jim is a pencil pusher tho. he just wants his daughter to be sucessful so she doesn't suffer the same fate and if her personal life is the price, that's fine with him.

Leaked storyboards let us know the fourth witch (Ramona) will be active in the plot for the next half of the first season. As for the rest, considering that there was an episode that showed Hedgehog is being active at uncovering the island's secrets (Computer Vampire), we might actually have all that answered in due time.

The creative team definitely wants there to be a mystery involved with the show. It has deep potential, and considering Pott's very unique mode of story telling (Belly, The Event), we might be in for a very fun ride.
