I read one Twitter thread that compared the remake's character designs to "Detective Pikachu", remarking how the film's trailers and advertising seem to push the realism of the remake's animation more than the actual story due to how the animals have been rendered in so realistic a manner that they lack an ability to properly emote. That is, while the character designs of "Detective Pikachu" take liberties with anthropomorphization to allow the Pokemon characters to emote, the true-to-nature designs of the Lion King remake's characters lack those elements.
