I don't get it

I don't get it.

And neither, I suspect, do you.

Bird pussy, basically

It was all a dream, bruh.

it was an americana/victorian verion of Dante's 'the divine comedy.' - which is a 3 pc. work, the middle part being titled 'inferno.'
Read the comedy, and you'll understand OTGW.

tomb of the unknown was a pilot under a different vision.

Eh

>This much cope

>That fucking perspective

The only part that's not to get is if it was real or not and really I don't care that much. It's a very understandable narrative.

If you know me so well, what's my favourite colour?

Was it purgatory in a big metaphor for Catholicism? Was it a dream? Was it a magical world of pre-20th century Americana? Was it all a story some frog made up? What are the loveliest lies of all, OP? That’s up to you.

It's a lie. What's to get? The value you get out of the story, however you interpret it is more important than whatever hangups you have about life-and-death and whatever else the story touched on. That's the whole fucking point. It's a lie. I.e. it's a story. A story about that which seems larger than life-and-death (in this case, a nerdy boy's attempt to woo a girl), from the perspective of death, romanticized to hell and back regarding mythological landmarks that we didn't know we had. But all the same, it's the same story: kid oversteps his confidence, kid recoils in horror, kid tries to reconcile this horror with himself.

Yes.

Pretentious pomo CalArts fags are basically unworthy of life, is what I am getting from this post.

Preeeeetty much.

Kid almost drown with his younger brother. Hypothermia was getting to Greg. Everybody in the Unknown is already dead or dying.

It could have been real and a dream at the same time
The unknown is a different thing for many people, it was shown to be a story a girl wrote in the past and a couple kids playing with a toy ship and even the afterlife of an old rich man
The only explanation we ever get is that it is a place in wich old forgotten tales are revealed to those who travel it

It's just one of those shows where you can pull your own meaning from it.

There are many interpretations, but it's up to you to decide what speaks the most to you.

pleb:
>trying to find theories and "hidden meanings" behind a work of art in order for it to "make sense"

patrician
>enjoying it for the craftsmanship and your own subjective feelings and evaluating it as an aesthetic experience

Thank god someone gets it.

It’s like all those people trying to break down Hidetaka Miyazaki’s games when by design they supposed to be stories that you can’t quite understand, and just supposed to feel.

By this brainlet logic, all story structure is unnecessary. Just shut your brain off, maaaan. Also, the animation isn't nearly good enough to make up for the story. It's stiff and unexpressive.

I know practically everything about this show, I can explain the moon and the sea (they are a theme in the story) and everything that you need to know. Ask me whatever you want to.

Samefag. Sara Shipper, angry because sequel.

No, it has a very specific meaning and you can decipher it but there is only a correct answer most part of the time.

>all story structure is unnecessary

Story structure is part of aesthetics and craftsmanship.

That isn't the meaning behind the phrase "beautiful lie". You want to keep it simple because you are a shipper.

Nobody mentioned Sara

Yeah but I know you.

SEQUEL?

Wasn't there talk of a sequel a while back?
While we wait for news, let's talk about the show because I miss Fall already.
Best boy/girl?
Favorite episode?
Favorite song?
Best girl is Sarah, best boy is Greg because he makes me laugh
My favorite episode is Into the Unknown or Pottsfield
Best song is The Frog's Lullaby

No, I get it.

But why don't you explain what you don't get about it so then I can explain it to you.

Fall vibes

Don't be a massive fucking faggot and enjoy life, even something as simple as autumm or goddamn rocks. That's what you should get.
Also don't trust black tall dudes.

Yeah, sequel. (or spiritual sequel)

One of the more generally accepted theories (which has been more or less confirmed by the creator) is that it is a retelling of sorts of Dante's Inferno. Video below explains well:

>Wasn't there talk of a sequel a while back?

Yeah, it's a movie about Pinocchio, we don't know if it is a sequel or a spirit sequel but it was structured as a sequel of the original story. I have been talking with McHale about it for a while already but I don't want to spoil the movie by giving all the details.

This phrase is gonna be really important in this story: "I helped him plant his seed" it's a song and it's from a certain woman for a Fool.

Best boy/girl?

Being objective... Wirt and Beatrice are the best characters.

Favorite episode?

The last episode is simply majestic.

favorite song?

Tiny seed. Creepy and mythic.

THIS.

Over the Garden Wall is a pretty standard isekai story; only rather than being the Jap kind of isekai, it's 100% within the genre of A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court and Wizard of Oz. The idea that the Unknown needs to be purgatory or somehow within the main character's imagination ignores everything about the epilogue, which shows all the Unknown characters continuing to live their lives happily. This is not something that would happen if it were supposed to be anything other than just a parallel reality.

Absolute fucking brainlets ruining the story. Even if there are intentional influences or allusions to Divine Comedy on the writing team's part, it fundamentally lacks everything that makes the Divine Comedy significant. Nowhere in OTGW is there an exploration of humanity's capacity for sin as well as redemption with and without temptation, instead there's just a generic evil dude that tricks people into doing evil things. Now, that doesn't make OTGW somehow a worse story; but rather you faggots need to stop trying to shove a square peg into a round hole. The Beast is not Inferno!Lucifer. Inferno!Lucifer is a three headed monster trapped forever in a pit of ice chewing on the three big traitors of history. The Beast is an evil tempter who needs a mark to keep him alive. Lucifer is waiting for Judgement Day and his inevitable defeat by God, The Beast has no such destiny to be concerned about. and no, the lamp going out doesn't count, because the Beast can control that end date by finding more people to fuel his lantern but Lucifer can control nothing at all. Lucifer as described by Dante is like Lovecraft's Azathoth, a 'blind idiot' deity.

There is nothing wrong with OTGW just taking influences from Divine Comedy and not going much further than there. There would be something massively wrong if OTGW was an incompetent attempt at an adaptation for children.

There is a picture of Wirt saying "goodbye..." while he is watching a boat from the coast. There is an important reference and I will spoil it if someone get the picture for me (I don't have it right now). If someone can help me with this I will be very thankful.

BUT IF IT WAS A DREAM

AND IT WASNT REAL

HOW'D I GET A JERSEY WITH THE NAME O'NEIL?

It was 100% real, that's the story

No

It wasn't the purgatory but the Inferno

Samefag and an angry shipper

If you are still ITT, what is the symbolism of the moon and the sea?

Doesn't matter if you don't "get" it, it's still a beautiful series.

>durrrr you stupid for try to think meaning
>no meaning just pictures funny and pretty
