Wow Tony, that’s... awfully self-centered.
Who was in the wrong?
So why not make it similar to the normal world, just a bit better? You dont have to go full paradise.
>awfully self-centered
As every person is.
Yeah just get rid of bone cancer in children or something, get rid of those parasites that burrow into your urethra
Make bananas last a bit longer before they go black, make public transport efficient and pleasant, bring back classic simpsons writing... Seriously, lotta things you can do.
probably because they would make the "snowball" excuse
>Tony Stark
>Self-centered
Mind-blowing
>I could cure cancer
>but that would make us devolve (somehow)
This is why capeshit will forever be disrepected as a medium and an art form.
Technically this is cheating. it means solving a problem without actually finding a solution. You treat cancer with a magic that is exhausted in that circumstance, but what will humanity do when another type of cancer threatens will appear? pray for another miracle? If you come to the solution with your strength, you will be better prepared when there is a new kind of threat. Acquired knowledge will be invaluable.
In reality, the problem is not so much with the comics, but with the readers.
But Yea Forumsmblr tells me he’s an altruistic sweetheart!
The issue is that Marvel has always been scared of making the Earth of their stories too different from the Earth of real life, even though the very existence of superpowers would radically change everything.
As such, problems that exist in real life aren't allowed to be solved solved with magic or super-technology or whatever. People like Richards and Stark can invent whatever a story requires of them, but it'll never have any impact on society.
Likewise, stuff like alien invasions, superhuman wars, and Nazis conquering America will result in everything going back to normal for society after the story is over.
I have never seen a single post here saying Tony is even an okay dude, what the fuck are you on about?
What? Most people if not all say he's a huge egotistical asshole
Yea Forums shits on any tony that isnt superior all the time
This isn't the MCU. The Gauntlet doesn't burn out or some shit.
Do we frequent the same threads? Every MCU related thread where Stark gets mentioned eventually delivers to “Muh sweet daddy who’s got depression yeh”. And Yea Forums has shat on Superior Stark for a year or so now. There’s always that one guy with the redditspacing who goes on and on about how Stark is some tortured soul, because his daddy was a meanie to him or something, and how he just wants to help people but he’s not good at it and blablabla. It’s not a widespread phenomenon, but I always come across this type of posters, few they may be.
When Yea Forums talks about MCU Tony as a character it's either to complain about him being a snarky quipster meme man or talking about him being a little bitch in the entirety of Civil War
Then we might frequent different threads. But I’ve seen way too many “Muh Stark is just a poor tortured boy” posts.
That is not the point. The point is a moral lesson.
Something you've gotten cheating doesn't have the same value as something legitimately obtained.
Obviously today's society would like to teach you the opposite because the only thing that matters are the results and fuck the methods, but the capshit comics speak, generally of heroes.
It's the role of the hero to teach us what is morally right to do.
and generally, what is right to do, and often the most difficult and tiring method. Rather than relying on a shortcut.
What is Sabertooth betting?
Yeah, well...
That is the Hood.
This is a Bendis comic, you see.
I am pretty sure the Hood only ever featured in Bendishit after his debut.
These days he very much is. Can't have him be a man who accept the consequences of his actions and deals with them, like under Kaminski.
>90s IronMan
yep, good times.
Remove Grassburrs
Make mosquitos fuck off, not go extinct, just they fuck off.
Uninflate the dollar
>Do we frequent the same threads?
I guess not because “Muh sweet daddy who’s got depression yeh” is not something I ever see. If anything it's anons digging into Tony's psyche and psychological issues to try and understand why he does the things he does.
>And Yea Forums has shat on Superior Stark for a year or so now.
The only shitting Yea Forums has been doing on Superior Tony is when it's Starkfag regularly making his usual pathetic posts and shitty threads which he hasn't done in a while now.
>Live in a world where people have literal super power
>Have technology enable you to travel to galaxies fuckzillion miles away
>Can casually heal people with wound the size of their asshole on their forehead
>Or they can just bring dead ass niggas back to the dead
>Drink tea with god on a daily basis
>Aliens visit Newyork every Friday
>But cancer is ABSOLUTE UN-CUREABLE
Yeah, the morally right thing to do obviously is to let the sufferring and death continue, because doing otherwise is "cheating," which is far worse. God, you're a faggot.
>devolve
I like to think that one day people will finally learn that that's not how evolution works
I can understand how changing people would be a problem, like forcibly removing crime and racism and all. But how is curing disease bad? How is curing it with mystic powers any different than science? That's like denying third world countries medical care because they didn't invent it themselves.
>Africans will be 50% of the population by 2060 because instead of letting them die, UNICEF and shit keep treating them and letting them breed like rabbits
Holy shit, Stark is actually Based and Redpilled!
I'm pretty sure Reed actually has developed a way to cure cancer but he is getting paid to keep it behind locked doors.
It wasn’t Reed least in modern times. In new Avengers, Wakanda had a cure for cancer which they wouldn’t release and Namor went apeshit and attacked Wakanda for being selfish.
People acting like this is something specific to Tony is hilarious because this plotline has been overdone too many times.
If you read, you can see it's a painful choice indeed.
The choice of an easy solution to every problems, with an artifice. Or real collective effort, without tricks, but only by advancing a society to the point of making it possible without magic.
Tony Stark makes a long-term reasoning. A magical solution "given" to humanity, risks making it regress. A solution that instead is achieved thanks to years of study and development it's certainly not immediate, but it will allow humanity to move towards new limits.
it's a bit like doctors going to cure diseases in some fifth-world country. Sure, you're saving lives, but the locals are dependent on you, because they don't have the means to heal themselves, so you're not solving a problem. You're just limiting the damage and at the next outbreak, you'll be at the starting point.
To solve the problem, you should educate the locals, improve their hygiene, their scientific education, give them the means to learn and become self-sufficient.
Sure a lot of people will die while you are raising schools and improve their education. it's not an easy choice but this progress is the reason why you live a relatively comfortable life today.
I’m sure all those kids dying of cancer would see it that way
I don’t get why it’s such a big deal. At this point way worse things can happen to you in Marvel multiverses than cancer. A cure wouldn’t make the world into a utopia lmao.
Surely not, but there are no simple solutions to complex problems. This is an undeniable truth of our world. In capshit comics we are dealing with extraordinary people who could give these simple and miraculous solutions, but it's basically a wrong message. Which, among other things, would make their Earth something different from ours.
My headcanon's always been that it was a knee-jerk reaction 15 years ago when metas first started popping up that all this super tech they've created is banned for public consumption, for a variety of reasons:
1) Capitalist - if Reed or Tony ever used their full potential they'd disrupt entire industries and leave literal millions jobless, whoops, there goes the economy. Sure it would be better in the long run but approximately 0 politicians think beyond their term end.
2) Non-proliferation - America suddenly has an army of thousands of Stark armors, now Russia wants them, now China does, and we get a repeat of the nuclear race. They all (somehow) agreed to just not do that. We saw with the Sentinels that they constantly fall into the wrong hands, maybe that prompted this.
3) Security - most of this tech is impossible to replicate/control beyond the handful of supergenuines that build it. You'd essentially give Tony, Reed, Hank and Banner the keys to US defense and economy. Nobody would agree to that. When Tony tried after Civil War to unify everything under Starktech it turned out to be a massive liability when the Skrulls invaded and shut everything down in one fell swoop. That was one of the reasons Tony was ousted during Dark Reign.
4) Security II - A lot of the tech is either built on or heavily uses alien technology, no government would agree to having a key social/economic/military component come from the same intergalactic empires that frequently invade, maybe they can remote control it, detonate, whatever.
5) Lobbying - Big industries directly lobbied to ban supertech otherwise they'd get screwed over.
If you accept that tech is being deliberately throttled by the governments of the MU it makes sense. The superheroes get to play around with interdimensional spaceships while the average citizen lives a normal life free from the danger their fridge will open a portal to the Negative Zone.
So...why not just take it a step further? Improve humanity and alter history?...Congratulations according to history we cured cancers upon disocvering it after years of study retroactively we've complete and total knowledge of how to cure such things. There is a difference between a magic solution and then there is being able to alter reality to such an extent the problem was solved through hardwork and effort and then looking forward and writing and then humanity solved every other problem that ever confronted it.
I remember Norman Osborn having a cure at one point too.
It’s a big meme joke at this point how many times it’s happened. I cured cancer is the new “nanotech”.
He's finally admitting his gambling addiction to his friends and peers :/
Assuming the right thing to do is the hardest thing as well is a massive logical fallacy and just as oppressive as believing only tne results matter.
Congratulations, you've improved the world in the comics. It's pity that there are no infinity gems in our reality. They seem so convenient.
Marvel's afraid it'd be considered "insensitive" to people in real life who have cancer or AIDS or any other disease to have a cure invented in the comics. Same is true with DC, for that matter.
Not as bad as Jane not using asgardian mystic shit to fix her cancer because it was fair to other cancer patients.
Kids have died of cancer since time immemorial. If humanity had its priorities straight we would have cured it a loooong time ago.
