It was designed as male but the team made it female, now is officially gender neutral due to fanservice because the fandom got used to consider it genderless.

Its been agreed ages ago that she was a girl. This agreement became more prevalent as people noticed the over abundance of male characters and even creators of the show agreed to it. I don't judge anybody for not knowing any better because that would mean involvement with the fandom and why would you want to take part into it? I am only glad this debacle happened during a different time because if this argument was brought up in the current political climate it would've been an horrible shit storm of epic proportions.

You answered your own question. The DVD's used to have extra/exclusive content but said content (At least most if not all) has already been uploaded online making it meaningless. At the same time it worked as a novelty collectors item if you were a fan because it was a physical object.

Wrong. The fandom had plenty of fun playing with the dynamic and even the creators caught on with the joke and fucked with the fans occasionally. Keep in mind it happened during more innocent times. While there were some heated debates on the matter it was all in good fun. I take no pride in admitting to being part of the fandom in my teens but I was there to see this unfold and the shitstorm from the official confirmation Flaky was a girl was pretty entertaining, but it also meant the death from an entertaining element (But I argue it over stayed its welcome).
