I go with "Ray-shh", thanks to the DCAU.
R-Ayy-sh
Race with a sh instead of a ss
rɔːs
Impossibly based
i read it as ross ah ghoul
Resh
He's a drawing, it doesn't matter.
tīn
"Raish"
i like rawz
Racer Cool
Its "Raysh".
That is the correct pronunciation based on actual linguistics.
>That is the correct pronunciation based on actual linguistics.
Applying linguistics to someone's name is fucking stupid because most names don't follow their linguistic roots.
Nobody here speaks Arabic!
The completely correct formal pronunciation is "rah-*glottal stop*-s", although most speakers would pronounce it as "rahs"
I have no idea where "raysh" comes from, but I think that might be how the Hebrew cognate of "ra's" is pronounced. Either way, no Arabic speaker would ever pronounce it like that.
His name is an actual, coherent Arabic phrase, "head of the 'demon/ghoul.'"
Rahs is the arabic pronunciation and raysh is the hebrew pronunciation, his name is supposed to be arabic though so rahs is the correct pronunciation
nigger
Raysh. Always Raysh
Only Americans believe this.
Remind me. In what country does Batman take place, and in what country was it written?
rah-(close your throat briefly)-ss.
al ghhhool. it's a small ghhh but it's there.
how does that justify being wrong? the character isn't from where batman takes place.
Is Ras even Arabic?
I know he's from the Middle East but did we get a specific ethnicity?
The character was made in America by an American and therefore it is not unreasonable to believe that he was made with American knowledge and sensibilities.
He’s Azerbaijani
It's pronounced 'race of ghouls', symbolizing Arabs.
That's exactly stupid enough for me to believe it.
Razalgul
dubs and 5 star post
Doesn't it depend on whether you're speaking Arabic or Hebrew?
Making the "real" Ra's white would have been a black Liz in Homecoming level twist if only Neeson didn't have the facial hair and the other guy had more of a presence
But bringing the League of Assassins back for the third was a mistake since it's as if TDK and Joker never existed
Not with names, it doesn't. You don't suddenly start pronouncing Michael as "Miguel" if you're a spanish speaker or "Mikhail" if you're Russian. Names are names and they have a set pronunciation no matter what language they're from or you're speaking. The question is how does he pronounce it?
I agree in principle, but disagree since I think making Ra's the one that trained Batman is a very smart choice.
Like I'm going to follow the linguistic guidelines of a people that don't even warrant their own original slur. If it were up to them, we'd be calling him "Sand Al Ghul" and that would be ridiculous.
He's says he from the Arabic area
Get a load of this society.
Out of all the things you could toss in the memory hole, why did you choose ethnic slurs for camelfuckers?
War's over, man. I don't have to hate them anymore.
Hating things is fun
A Jew did invent him..

This.
Classic Arabic is one of the very few languages that has stayed linguistically the same for the past 1400 years thanks to the Quran creating a set of language rules that all of the Arabic-speaking world continues to abide by. Ra's, like many other Arabic names, is literally just another word in the language.
Rah's
