Is Neo Yokio good?

Wouldn't this fall under Yea Forums?

they sent me here, and with this suggestion i will now make this thread on Yea Forums again

Yes.

It's absurd. If you go in with the right perspective it's a real treat to watch, but it doesn't fit well on a simple spectrum of good or bad.

Do you believe it's genuinely good, or is it so bad it's good? I think it might even delve so far into being so bad that it's good that it becomes genuinely good

It stars Jaden Smith. Do you THINK it's good?

I think it might be garbage, but i actually enjoy it and i can't pin down the precise reason why.

Honestly no.

It comes close to seeming like some kind of parody, but but never has clever enough writing to have its jokes land. If you could even call it jokes.

It acts like it's a satire but never really paints it's concepts in a negative light where you feel like you're in on the joke. The characters in the show act and makes decisions that seem like they're supposed to be taken as a joke but it never takes these concepts to a real punchline.

It almost "so bad it's good" but these moments are few and far between. The first to episodes have their moments but everything else is very bland.

To me the worst sim a show/movie can have is being boring, and asside from its first two episodes it's extremely boring.

I do not recommend it at all. Watch the first two episodes of anything but the rest of the show has no substance, be it ironic or not.

Hard pass.

The whole thing is less than an hour long, just decide it yourself

It's terrible, you can probably enjoy it in a "so bad it's funny" way, but it's still bad.

Not really
At first i thought it was making fun of anime like "HighSchool Host Club" and "Blue Exorcist" but it became clear they ripped off their favorite parts and filled the rest Jaden's tweets.

I enjoyed myself. Its definitely better to watch with friends, but if a show makes me want to rewat h it, it's good, no matter what other qualifications you want yput on it.

No, it's western made
Yes, it's a genuinely good comedy, and can even be taken seriously if you want to read into things.

No.

But it IS entertaining.

No. It's a vanity project by a singer and a movie star's son that has even less depth than people give it credit for. It's also criminally boring.

The ~25 seconds of actual so-bad-its-good is overwhelmed by an avalanche of pointless brand wankery and long irrelevant conversations

The reason it almost feels like a satire but never quite gets there is because the creators are unabashed lovers of conspicuous consumption. The hero acts like a twat overly obsessed with commercialism and image because that's how the creators feel.

Like something you'd watch on Adult Swim. I loved it.

You'll only enjoy Neo Yokio if you get where Koenig is coming from desu. If you don't get all of the hyper-specific cultural references or his own style and perspective, it'll seem dumb and pointless. I think it's a really interesting satire that is extremely good at depicting a very specific kind of cultural tension, but if you have no idea who Koenig is and what he's going for, then it won't make sense.

This

Translation: If you're a rich twat you'll like it

>If you don't get all of the hyper-specific cultural references or his own style and perspective, it'll seem dumb and pointless.
Ah, so rick and morty for pseuds instead of STEM kiddies.. Gotcha.

Can you give a small example?

mind if I vape?

The third episode is a reference to some really specific cultural moments about Taylor Swift becoming a "New York City ambassador" and a real life Damien Hirst art piece.

Desus and Mero play two rich kid characters that speak with street New York accents (they say stuff like "deadass, we're gonna teach these old money fuckboys a lesson", which is either hilarious or cringe depending on your sense of humor)

In general, I just feel like the show makes more sense if you "get" Ezra Koenig's semi-ironic preppy aesthetic and his conflicted feelings about it

OP here again. I watched it when it first came out and had extremely mixed feelings about it, but i recently discovered that it had a Christmas special that released this last Christmas and i thought that it was pure gold

I've long held that on a scale of 1 to 10 a 5 is the worst possible score a movie or show can have. A 1 can be enjoyable just because of how bad it is. I've had more enjoyable watching experience with Wakaliwood or Neil Breen movies than I have had watching many actually good movies. 5 is just bland. Not bad enough to be funny not good enough to be fun to watch. Neo Yokio proves me wrong. It's a solid 5 and it's one of the most entertaining series I think I've ever watched. It somehow manages to walk the tightrope that is being so bad it's good and being honest and hilarious satire always leaving you guessing whether or not they intended to be funny or not. Jaden Smith was born to be Kaz. So I guess to answer the question of whether or not it's good? No, but it's still fucking fantastic. I hope somehow we get more.

I watch it, I enjoy watching it, I anticipate more of it, but no.
It is not good.

I loved it

No. It was a meme that died out after a month when everyone lost interest.

I'd drink the fuck out of a caprese martini.

This is a great characterization.

As the varied responses in this thread attest, it has almost a Schrodinger's cat-like quality.

He’s fine as shit god damn

Uff what a qt, we need more cute black anime boys who rock dreads

They're pretty tasty! I mean, in a pinch a bloody mary with a mozzarella ball will work, but the ones they had at the premiere party were good. They used good mozzarella too.

I imagine it being more strained than a bloody mary, kinda like the texture of a gazpacho.

Are they actually dreads?
Their uniformity and slenderness makes me headcanon them as twists.

Abso-FUCKING-lutely. Between incorporating things that would never be in a traditional anime, an the parody aspects, the underlying plot sells it. it's also so god damn funny

isn't that Lightning's Toblerone

>the ones they had at the premiere party
Stop telling people your shit vanity project doesn't stink

If you call it a satire one more fucking time...

For anyone wondering what 99% of the dialogue in Neo Yokio is, it's this. Bougey fags talking about nothing. No jokes. No satire. Just consumption and wank.

It's unironically bad.

Makes sense seeing as it's a vanity project made by an autistic manchild who would be making sonichu tier fanart on deviantart if he wasn't lucky enough to have his parents buy him literally anything he wants.

It's embarrassingly bad and wouldn't have been made if not for nepotism.

It's pretty damn blessed.

When the threads first started, mods said to take it to /trash/. Dont know why though its fantastic.

YES!
No.

>Just consumption and wank.
That's the joke.

Doing something """""ironically""""" nonstop then later claiming it's self aware isn't any different from doing it unironically.

It was always self aware.
Look me in the eyes and tell me "snacks are ready" was not self aware.

I agree but to be fair I have yet to see conclusive proof that Japanese people understand satire.

I wasn't on board until the reveal that the robot butler voiced by Jude Law is actually a small mech being piloted by a foul mouthed, Cockney, old woman named Sadie.

And everyone treats this like it's normal.

Ezra Koenig is actually just retarded.

>being too casual to understand a jab at 4kids

You will never understand art user.

are you familiar with Jaiden Smith and filled with disdain for him?
do you want to experience Jaiden Smith voicing a character thats a blatant self-insert for him, and that character getting called a useless piece of shit by all the other characters for saying and doing the things Jaiden Smith does IRL?

Looks like generic weeb garbage

>making fun of bad dub scripts by having a bad script is artistic
Unless the shows is satirizing actual real life Jaden Smith without Jaden's knowledge (which to be fair seems plausible because Jaden seems to be actually retarded) I don't buy it being satire of anything.

"snacks are ready," one of the only funny lines in the entire goddamn show and probably literally the only actual joke, was put in by the guy they hired to screenwrite (and then got rid of)

"Neo Yokio" and "self-aware" do not belong in the same area code

In order for it to be satirizing or putting down Jaden's behavior there would have to be consequences for his actions. There aren't. The worst he gets is a momentary dressing down, usually for something only tangentially related to his actual fuck up, and then nobody gives a shit and nothing changes.

It's a show about ignorant spoiled rich kids written by ignorant spoiled rich kids

Is gazpacho THAT bougie?
You just need veggies, patience, and some cheesecloth.
I'd wager it's cheaper by the homemade gallon than chicken noodle soup.

>a whole episode dedicated to Rnama 1/2
They knew what they were doing.

No, but long pointless conversations about awful specialty cocktails with no jokes is pretty bougey, and is a perfect example of the boring-ass dialogue in Neo Yokio

>surface level references to one of the most famous manga of all time
>this means they're self-aware
Nigger please

Attached: a5RLZzE.jpg (259x320, 15K)

The sheer anount of retards itt who actually think Jaden Smith had any input on Neo Yokio beyond voicing Kaz astounds and disgusts me. The series is so blatantly not about Kaz that you’d have to have actually not seen the series to actually believe it is.

The show is satirizing actual real life Jaden Smith WITH Jaden's knowledge.

It's fun in a dumb way. Frankly, I couldn't list good things about the series without mentioning at least twice as many bad things about it, but watching it has still been the most fun I've had with a cartoon in a long time.
As an aside, the Christmas special is great, definitely better than the rest of the series.
It's an edge case. Most of the important production was handled in the US, Production I.G and DEEN only handled the character designs and the actual frame-to-frame animation.

>awful
It would be refreshing.

>Ranma is surface level.
>in 2019.
Retard.
