Technically, Book 1 Chapter 1 is not the pilot to AtLA. The pilot never aired on TV. The boy in the iceberg was made at the same time they were making the rest of the series. But still, it shouldn’t be judged for the first episodes, because it’s easing the audience into its world slowly.

It gets darker in its themes and way more mature and complex in its narrative and character development.
If you'e expecting it to get violent and explicit, it won't, but season 1 has plenty of fun action scenes and the fights start getting really good at the end, great by season 2 and amazing in season 3.
