>IGN is excited to debut the first look inside the sequel to the hit graphic novel Batman: White Knight from DC Comics writer/artist Sean Murphy. We’ve also got the release date for when you can find it in stores.
>Titled “Batman: Curse of the White Knight,” the followup is an eight-issue mini-series that will release on July 24 under DC’s Black Label imprint. Black Label is reserved for standalone, out of continuity stories that tend to be a bit more mature, like Batman: Damned, which maybe got a little too mature.
>White Knight put a unique spin on the familiar, showing what would happen if the Joker got his sanity back and became good, and then Batman became the bad guy. Now, the sequel sees the Joker still sane but with an axe to grind against the Dark Knight. He teams up with a new, savage version of Azrael to expose a shocking Wayne family secret, putting Batman in a bad spot where he’s unable to hide from the horrifying truth.
>Azrael as we know him is an ally of Batman, so Murphy is putting another dark spin on a familiar hero.
On coming up with a compelling story for this sequel, Murphy told IGN, “Jack Napier almost took everything from Batman--but that was nothing compared to what Joker and Azrael have planned. Not only are they planning on destroying the Dark Knight, but they'll undo the Waynes in way you never thought possible. For Curse of the White Knight, I wanted to do a historical story about the Waynes in Gotham. And talk about how deeply both he and Joker are tied to the city. Gotham seems to be perpetually cursed by crime--this story talks about that curse, and how it's linked to the founding of Gotham Village in 1665.”
What I want to know is when the freak the three jokers is coming out.
Colton Nelson
>Batman: Damned, which maybe got a little too mature
It highlighted a shadowy penis.
Jose Harris
>the comic that sold very well got a sequel >the comic done by a foreigner that didn't sell that great didn't get a sequel IMAGINE, user.
Benjamin Evans
I guess Marini is busy with more Eagles of Rome
I'd welcome a sequel but maybe a bit of a time skip is needed so Bruce's daughteru can become Robin
Chase Richardson
The Dark Prince Charming is great, but it doesn't need a sequel. White Knight was absolute shit in every category but its artwork, so of course DC is giving it a sequel.
Leo Barnes
I just miss the simpler Batman stories, and was kind of interested what they could do with the maybehismaybeJoker's daughter. Not saying she has to be a Robin, but perhaps a funny character to compliment straight man Bruce
John Taylor
>I guess Marini is busy with more Eagles of Rome He's currently working on another BD though
Aaron Reyes
He's doing the next Scorpion book and after that Noir
Absolute fake. DC cancelled the Black Label imprint after the "Batpenis incident."
Liam Jackson
With Johns ousted from DC, never.
Elijah Rodriguez
>Batman: Damned, which maybe got a little too mature.
The absolute state of modern "journalism"
inb4 >IGN >journalism
Cooper Campbell
I wish.
Brandon Russell
>Sean "Joker is a good boy, he dindu nothin" Murphy
Drrrrrrooooooppped. I rather read Bendis thank this self-insert bullcrap.
Caleb Hughes
>Batman: Damned, which maybe got a little too mature. Oh my God! A PENIS! THIS IS REALLY MATURE.
Anthony Hernandez
Bullshit it is
Asher Thompson
Fuck off, Murphy
Leo Clark
So which Wayne family member is going to be Az?
Jason? The first Wayne ever? Thomas?
Jacob Davis
>Black Label is reserved for standalone, out of continuity stories that tend to be a bit more mature Yet to be seen >like Batman: Damned, which maybe got a little too mature. HA! >White Knight put a unique spin on the familiar, showing what would happen if the Joker got his sanity back and became good, and then Batman became the bad guy. My ass. Villain good, Hero bad isn't unique nor was it even competently done. The fucking floundering to get Joker to innocence and having a case against Gotham and sullying Bruce through tertiary matters was just batshit retarded. >Now, the sequel sees the Joker still sane but with an axe to grind against the Dark Knight. He teams up with a new, savage version of Azrael to expose a shocking Wayne family secret, putting Batman in a bad spot where he’s unable to hide from the horrifying truth. And we're due another scoop of more of the same it seems.
>Azrael as we know him is an ally of Batman, so Murphy is putting another dark spin on a familiar hero. Well we know the Waynes are now Nazi sympathizers so let me just guess, he's Jason Todd and he found out his family were victims of Hitler's shindig so now the Wayne's are responsible for all his misfortunes since birth and that's Batman's fault despite, like the political gain from his spill over, him having no idea about it.
Get fucked Murphy.
Adam Wright
Great characters, they were really good and the art is beautiful but cause DC probably wanted a OGN for new readers similar to what they have done with Hush, Prince Charming didn't have a weird story comic readers hadn't read before so though the writing was better than the writting for White Knight it doesn't sell in the same way at least the numbers we can see from comic book shops. There was advertisement for White Knight, a lot, while Prince Charming wasn't advertised in USA likely cause Prince Charming was more for Europe
Luis Mitchell
I think the general concept of White Knight was better but the writing in Prince Charming was better. I didn't like the plot in Prince Charming so much, bad ideas, good writing.
Joshua Ross
Oh yay, more of Murphy's immature and poorly written fanfiction. Fucking lame, stop giving that egotistical retard money.
>a little too mature >A dick >A shadowed dick >Not even an erect dick >Not even an erect dick near anything that can be construed as sexual Granted I was laughing at the fact that it was Batman's floppy but still c'mon
Liam Wilson
I'm gonna read it, Tom King is worse and I miss Batman
Carson Thompson
>I miss Batman You do know he's not real right? Get some better comics in your life
Jackson Hill
I didn't Batman damned honestly
Camden Lewis
I dropped Batman 20 issues ago. I want my Batman dose
Wyatt Collins
>Murphy art is bad now Jesus Christ, these are critical levels of contrarianism.
Charles Young
>fake wut This was confirmed ages ago
Evan Harris
>now I called it shit in previews, in storytimes and I'll call it shit now Cuz it's shit. Fuck off Murphy
Leo Walker
>it's shit >why? >it just is Great argument.
Ethan Rivera
Obviously it is. Way too mature and controversial for this medium.
Jack Johnson
>Prince Charming was more for Europe This. It was definitely aimed at people that aren't familiar with the absolute mess that comics are. They had to keep it simple for good reasons, and Prince Charming a book I could recommend to friends that like Batman but have zero interest for comics.
Does it need a sequel though?
Austin Sullivan
Perhaps not, but there is some stuff you could do with the girl. Does she become a sidekick/hero? A normal young woman? Insane like The Joker?
Andrew Johnson
Fair enough. The girl was cute but I thought the ending and "reveal" was the weakest part of the book so I have the feeling the story ends exactly where it should.
Hunter Rogers
Marini appeals to European fans with class and taste Murphy appeals to comicgators who want to see Harley's nipples
Daniel Foster
its like every other Western weabooo but without any sense of dynamism, motion or sequential storytelling SGM is basic bitch tier
Leo Jones
What a load of meaningless criticisms.
Lucas Butler
Might as well have called it Curse of the White Privilege, it's obvious that Murphy hates Batman, it'll probably be about how the Wayne's exploited people for their personal gain to get farther in life and their actions have ramifications in modern times. Like, the Wayne's fucked over Joker's ancestor and it set off a chain reaction throughout history that led to the creation of Joker or some shit like that.
Gabriel Reed
I liked his Azrael suit. Wasn't it confirmend that it's Valley? JPV is as a gene augment quite a physical and martial threat to Batman, he did beat Bats once before and Bane twice.
More than a sequel I want some other story in the same world and written by Marini
Gabriel Reyes
No thanks I don't have any interest in the girl really and her mother had an annoying personality but this Joker was funny and his sidekicks were good besides this Gotham is a little classy but modern too, great scenes and fluent movement or the simulation of it technically
Isaiah Turner
Me too
Julian Clark
I prefer Harley when she isn't sexualized so much but you know how it is and when you want to sell a book often the retard readership wants innuendo or Ecchi that is more appropriate for what happens in Prince Charming. White Knight had a sex scene though the tone is different is more or less the same problem, that readers want fanservice, not that it's a good thing, people can be garbage sometimes
Cooper Jones
I think it has my favourite Gordon. His wild hair is great.
>Napier was right, if you really wanted to stop crime, you'd privately fund a militarized police squad and allow unchecked technology to flood the black market and equip the criminal elements known to associate with the corrupt police in the GCPD. The real heroes! This is a good plan, no down sides.
Jonathan Thomas
He still has nice art even if he's a garbage creative with almost every other aspect.
Cameron Cook
that's a little exaggerated, if you want authentic garbage you should read Tom King's Ivy arc
Sebastian Powell
Sean literately hasn't read a single book this decade that isn't his wife's smut
Jayden Mitchell
bump
Leo Roberts
>Obviously it is. Way too mature and controversial for my shitty third world country. ftfy, lad.
Adrian Hernandez
If only and Johns is still involved with DC anyway
Carson Murphy
>a shadowy penis > Not a shadowy Bat-penis
Dammit!!! You had ONE job!!!
David Campbell
Harley's sexualization was more classily done. Probably because it was by a european. Also, what the fuck do you mean Catwoman wasn't sexualized?
this Classy and modern? It had 50's style diners but with a tattooed, peirced-eared joker. It's still a mishmash of eras, but a different one from normal. I personally liked the change.
Owen White
Gordon is as corrupt as the rest of the force, user.
Logan Cooper
>The good comic didn't sell as well as the bad one Shocking
Eli Bell
>just finished Eagles of Rome I think that ending broke my heart in two
John Gray
I can’t take White Knight seriously after I realized Joker is literally just Murphy self-inserting so he can fuck his waifu Harley
Juan Morris
better than his wife self-inserting herself having orgies with basketball teams
I like that black ventriloquist and Scarface but the latter should be more pimped out
Charles Harris
>no way fag
Nathaniel Thompson
The final issue did around 70,000 copies, which is pretty decent for an out-of-continuity book. That and the fact the first four issues went into three printings means there really was demand.
Jack Cook
>Murphy hate Batman No. He's just more a Jokerfag than a Batfag. He also enjoy Joker/Harley (to the point his avatar marry them) and some Dick/Babs, and have a great deal of love for BTAS.
My main ploblem with WK is how stupid everyone come as to forgive Joker and treat Jack the way they does. Also I feels that most of what Murphy write about is a mash-up of "theories" have seen on the internet before.
No one argue about Murphy being a shit writer, though. That comments chain was about one user saying his art (the only saving grace of WK) is terrible.
Joshua Flores
I loved Bedlam, but the super hero was pathetically incompetent.
Grayson Roberts
But how would that even work? Napier left Batman on good terms.
Oliver Cox
small breasts and no cleavage costume
Chase Lee
I assumed WK's Joker wasn't as bad as mainline Joker, since he has days where he's just a prankster and doesn't seem to be as generally homicidal as usual. It's still crazy that he could just run for office like that, though.
Joseph Barnes
They both really don't need a sequel, but yeah, if I had to pick between either of them I'd go for another Dark Prince Charming.
Josiah Powell
He didn't kill anybody in that universe
David Sanchez
It's coming out, it's just now a mini seemingly irrelevant to anything else, rather than some big line-wide directive.
I would like a sequel or something more in that world but some comics never get it and others do. The comic itself came out of nowhere and wasn't advertised anywhere near as much as White Knight.
Jacob Brooks
>i wanna fuck >not in the mood >ARROGANT JERK
wow, selina, check you toxic masculinity, no means no
Jason Edwards
With the way how much it draws from B:TAS it is sad it didnt take note on Bruce character. Also Two Harley was the best idea which came out of it
>Two Harley was the best idea which came out of it yep but Neo Joker wasn't a good villain
Blake Reyes
Debatable since the story doesn't develop what Joker has done or not. However, Harley mention he was about to murder Jason (a teen) with a razor blade to get Bat's attention, and is only stoped because she slaps him out of it. I can buy Justice not accusing Joker of murder because lack of evidences, but I don't buy that the teen disappearance isn't brought by anyone to discredits Jack's political ambition. Also he clearly has a split personnality triggered by meds.
>there's something in Gotham's waters baka
Jack Edwards
Sorry, meant for
Juan Diaz
But it really seems he didn't kill anybody, it was almost textual and people got angry because of that, this Joker robbed banks but wasn't a killer, the point of break for Joker and Harley as a couple was Jason Todd cause Joker was going to kill Jason and Harley didn't want to let him do so
Colton Hernandez
I'll buy anything with Murphy's artwork. Keep 'em coming.
