Nah, you're wrong. For two reasons actually. The other reason is that you haven't considered that maybe it's more than just politics that float or sink a film.
Spiderverse is Miles & co & villain, plus it was genuinely a nice movie. Starlord was already kinda popular among nerds and hipsters for some unfathomable reason (which is why he got a miniseries years prior to the film). Captain Marvel is a must see for the bulk of viewers of the MCU so they can keep with the next Avengers movie.
