This sounds like one of those events where Marvel gets all their heroes together and some edgy bullshit event happens that forces them to kill each other. Civil War did this and everyone hated it because the tie-ins interfered with all the other ongoings.

While it did get a sequel it wasn’t really the best quality or so I’ve heard. The movie also has little connection to the story of the original civil war because it was a company wide crossover that involved waaaay more characters than the movie.
The issues with Civil War is how SUPER connected it was and how badly destryoed some characters were, like speedball and his whole penance phase, it left a super dark stain on him.

That's exactly what Disney did and it's a good business decision, whether you like it or not. Guess what, companies do that shit with books and music CDs as well. The same has been done with movies on a smaller scale before but now, when you have expanded universes, you need to invest more as a company to gain more. Do you seriously think it's farfetched for a company to spend 100-200 million to secure the next movie in the franchise to gain 500 - 1000 million dollars more? Even if you only look at CM, a 100 million dollar investment in tickets could easily lead to 150 million dollars in earnings. 50 million dollars is a lot when you have a movie the public seemingly doesn't care about and it's great marketing for Endgame to say CM did 1 billion.
