I've noticed lately now that Shazam is out, Aquaman is getting a lot of flak whereas when it was released it was getting praised left and right.
is this how it's gonna be when Joker is out and Shazam gets criticised for being kiddy shit?

>Aquaman is getting a lot of flak
Wut?

Where? I've haven't seen anything

>Flak
Where? What do you mean? Aquaman's problems were mostly minor script issues and throwing A LOT at the audience but otherwise a good time. Shazam's strength is selling a simple concept without all the political shit Arthur had to deal with. Which granted it's still a simple concept (Arthurian find the thing to become king), but once you throw in the other Atlantean kingdoms, the rules, and Black Manta it does become a plate spinning act.

That all said, but are good movies for different reasons.

Attached: Aquaman movie art.jpg (1920x1023, 364K)

I literally don't see any of this "flak" people are only saying Shazam is the best DCEU movie yet.

I don't remember seeing sudden shift in how Aquaman is received, but that used to happen a lot with Marvel movies I think until Civil War.

>Movie comes out
>Everyone loves it
>Hype dies down
>Everyone starts ripping apart its very obvious flaws

90% of people who shit on it are carolshills

Or people with actual good tastes. It would've been the worse capefilm of last year if it weren't for Venom.

That's funny because as much as I Loved shazam I feel aquaman is the better film, Shazam was amazing but that third act needed fucking work, the final fight was boring

>it's another imaginary problems thread

I mean, when you realistically look at it, compared to Shazam, Aquaman looks like a joke. I don't care how much money it made. Shazam has way more heart going for it

The fuck are you talking about? Almost everyone still praises Aquaman here except for Marveldrones (not to be compared with real Marvel fans). Apples and oranges but I found both of them to be great movies with great acting, characters, and stories

I'm a huge Phase 1 fag and I really only see that viable and plausible when it comes to Phase 2 and 3 movies since they are a severe downgrade in comparison to earlier movies
>that used to happen a lot with Marvel movies I think until Civil War
I'd say it happened more with the movies after Civil War because those were objectively worse in many departments such as effects and characterisations. Black Panther, although having horrible effects, was quite a positive surprise in my eyes while Homecoming and Thor Ragnarok left a bitter taste in my mouth, the latter being literally my least favourite MCU movie (haven't seen CM yet and won't until it comes out in 1080p)

I haven't seen anything like that. Consensus seems to be that Aquaman was a good time.

Really, a joke? King of Atlantis is somehow more unbelievable than a 14 year old given the powers of a god by a wizard?

what's unbelievable is that there's merch of the alien who destroyed a city and a psycopath who bat brands people.

Attached: 1542313295533.png (628x380, 531K)

The joke in that case depends more on what you can ascribe emotional weight to.

Shazam and Aquaman are both equally unbelievably strange, it's not like the atlanteans are hyper advance and aliens and the wizard used future science to turn Billy into a superhero.

Aquaman is one of the most enjoyable movies I've ever seen, and I'll love it until the end of time.

Is Op making stuff up again? The only problem with Aquaman is the absolute dog shit soundtrack

just like Wonder Woman
the new marvelfag meme is that every new DC movie is finally the first good one

Attached: this is fine.jpg (720x431, 33K)

Aquaman was literally the first good one though

I thought the general consensus was that Aquaman was a fun but flawed film and Shazam had a similar tone to Aquaman but lacked most of the flaws that held that movie back. It certainly helps Shazam is much smaller in scale with a very tightly focused story structure, Aquaman got bloated as fuck near the end with that giant CGI battle.

>he didn't like the third act of Aquaman

What the hell is wrong with you? Aquaman's final battle is one of the most enjoyable times I've ever had in a theater.

This. That final battle between the two armies was truly epic. Epic is an overused word, but fuck me is it appropriate to describe that battle scene.

Final battle 1v1 was ok, crab battle was a bit gratuitous. If I wanted to watch nothing but CGI cutscenes I would go play a video game.

They are opposites.
Aquabro:
>Great spectacle, horrendous everything else
>Shitty reviews
>Killed it at the BO by any metrics
>Gets a bara doujin where Aquaman gets tentacle raped by the kraken

Shazam
>Meh spectacle, the rest is decent
>Great reviews
>Okay BO is you consider the budget and that he's a nobody to the GA
>No doujins cause it's bombing in Asia

>If I wanted to watch nothing but CGI cutscenes
it's a superhero action movie, wtf are you expecting?

who is that on the top shelf, between batman and the wonderwoman top part

Shazam's script is way more solid than Aquaman in the sense that it doesn't keep exposing shit and everything flows naturally. Aquaman has it's moments but the film was saved thanks to it's art direction, just like Shazam had ass fight scenes and was saved by it's script.

cyborg, duh.

You can do spectacle without having large swaths of uninterrupted CGI battles. You gotta pace that shit.

it's a movie that takes place underwater. it was always going to be mostly CGI. you want to watch an underwater movie that has practical effects? go watch Thunderball. shit will put you to sleep

superman did nothing wrong

>Yea Forums totally isn't an echo chamber, guys!

There are some people who are saying Aquaman had great action and an okay story, whereas Shazam had mediocre action and a great story, so said people are going back and turning on Aquaman despite the fact they were praising it when it came out, partly due to it passing a billion and making Aquaman cool again.

okay? still haven't seen any of this backlash you're referring to

Only if Joker isn't a rollicking family comedy.

>making Aquaman cool again
>again

He was never cool among normies. This movie made him cool for the first time ever.

Co is a hive mind and a echo chamber. We can only focus on movies that are currently out or came out 5 years ago

Who gives a fuck what casuals think? Arthur was always cool

>He was never cool among normies.
Why should we care what the teeming masses of casuals find "uncool"?

the only bad track is Pitbull

And I'm fully convinced they added it knowing how teeth-pullingly awful it is

>Starring Ray Fillet as the Shredder

>>Gets a bara doujin where Aquaman gets tentacle raped by the kraken

But karathen is a she

I've seen what you mean. I think it's a split between people who never cared that much and fanboys that have an irrational hatred for DC movies that reactivates on a dime. People fucking loved Aquaman when it came out and now suddenly it's a shit movie. It's fucking schizophrenic.

I liked the Sigur Ros song

New toy syndrome

Yes, that's how it works, "people realizing is good or bad" just means more people watched the movie at home and paid more attention to it, nobody really goes to cinemas, and a lot of those wait for the digital rip, you know is true.

No that is not how it works because Aquaman was quite good. If it really worked how you say, then why aren't Marvels more cookie cutter film getting dragged through the mud. Ant-Man and the Wasp was garbage but no one wants to talk about it.

What's funny is you can see the DC logo and the Justice League movie logo, the doll in question is even Batman's special suit from the last part of JL. What the fuck?

Ants 2 was an objectively better made film than Aquaman.

I liked Aquaman. The story wasn't especially captivating on its' own but I think the characters and visuals made up for it.

Fun romp/10

Get the fuck out of here

The comedy was definitely better and the themes were a lot tighter in Ant Man for sure. Aquaman, and I'm not trying to be funny here, just had a much larger scale and the adventure was more grand. The script is choppy and bloated but the quick pace keeps audiences from looking too hard at its flaws. When you go to the movies Aquaman is the one that's better to see on the big screen, but Ant Man is the movie that's better to rewatch comfortably at home.

what kind of horses ass post is this? just say you like ant man better, don't come up with all this bullshit about theatre vs home. you sound like you're watching movies on your cellphone. hello retard some of us have home theatre set ups

The Joker isnt even OUT, and there's a growing SJW cabal pushing that it's normalizing and excusing aberrant toxic behavior of white people by allowing the Joker to be sympathetic.

The Joker just has to stay the course and be a drama. Stay away from the jokey jokes, remain a dark tragedy/comedy, and let it slowly become a horror story about the birth of Evil.

It will be amazing if DC stands true.

Aquaman was alright when it came out. I liked its villain more, in some ways. But it was a little more uneven with its plot arc, and some points fell completely flat. Shazam! was pretty much good the whole way through.

Joker is going to be crap by superhero movie standards and crap by art film standards. book it. I saw the trailer, I can read the tea leaves

You mean a boring ass rescue with hand wave magic Quantum Realm healing powers? They should have stuck with the heist shit.

>whereas when it was released it was getting praised left and right.
No it wasn't. There was lots of negativity around Aquaman when it released.

And it will still print money

both movies were fun as hell, sure Shazam is a better movie but I don't feel that makes Aquaman any less fun.

I have no doubt it will make a lot of money. I also have no doubt it won't be a very good movie

Just got done watching. I missed it when it was in the cinemas due to a family member being in hospital. It was amazing, but overall, I think I still prefer Man of Steel overall. That said, I'm amazed at how much effort and artistry was put into Atlantis and the scenes, and a lot of it was far prettier than some of the more drab scenes we've had in the DCEU so far.

That said, a voice in the back of my head kept piping up "So where the fuck is the Justice League right now?" as events scaled up. A scene of a red blur cleaning the beaches would have gone a long way. And there is no way they could have had Superman intervene at any particular point without stealing Arthur's thunder. So I get it. Same applies to other expanded universes, so it's not like it's a DC issue in particular.

I'm not comfortable with how many people Arthur still has left that he loves, considering Manta is alive. It doesn't bode well for my feels.

>who gives a fuck what casuals think
>the reason why these cape films are being made en masse is to appeal to the masses

What's your standard of a good superhero/villain movie?

I feel it's wrong to judge Joker (who am I kidding we haven't seen the movie yet we're just spitballing based on the trailer) as a superhero movie because I don't think it's going for that at all. These movie looks arty as all hell. If you're asking me what I think a good arty movie looks like, Ex Machina I guess

DCfags just protect. When another dcuflick finishes in cinema there is no need to protect it anymore.

megatron

To me he was always cool, besides SuperFriends and Aquamoa

We live in a timeline where Captain Marvel and Aquaman both made a billion. We live in a reality where Ryan Renolds has made Deadpool more popular than Batman amongst the general audience. I don't recognise this world anymore.

Attached: 1527868653615.jpg (900x1350, 172K)

for a moment, I thought that they actually made a toy of stephenwolf until I saw the head.

Nobody seems to remember Ant-Man and Wasp

I watched it and I can barely remember a thing

There was another Ant-Man movie?

>lately
Aquaman has always had its fair share of critiques. It's not universally acclaimed like Shazam is. The acting in it is mediocre to laughably awful, CGI ranges anywhere from amazing to overly cheesy and overbearing, and the plot isn't exactly that interesting, new, or well-executed.

People here seriously managed to guide the discussion from "is this a good movie?" to "will this movie make a lot of money?" and because it did; all of a sudden we just assume everyone thought it was a good movie. You know what were some other incredibly high grossing movies in recent years? Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Grinch, the latest shitty Pirates of the Caribbean, Despicable Me 3

>We live in a reality where Ryan Renolds has made Deadpool more popular than Batman amongst the general audience
Never count Batman out. He's come back from worse

Every DCcuck starts to feel embarassment a few months after premier.

>CGI ranges anywhere from amazing to overly cheesy and overbearing
I still don't know why they used a green screen when Mera ate flowers. They had built a set

Because it was dull stupid shit.
I mean, they made the wasp a very post wall 5/10 boring leather wearing kungfu cunt rather then having her be an interesting up to date version of comics wasp minus the over the top cuntishness and fucking half of the male avengers for shits and giggles and to stir up drama.

>deecee
nobody cares, boi

Sure. I'm just noting and absurdity of it all from the point of view of nerds raised in the 80s and 90s and even 00s.

Gotta be honest. I never saw it. I've never had a conversation in real life with anybody about it. And I'm not surprised. I just had a look and it opened lower than Shazam in my country. We must be one of the exceptions

I haven't

They didn't have a ton of budget

It's on Netflix, haven't seen it. Should I?

Nah. You'll forget it an hour or so after watching

Is it like Thor movies?
I could barely remember any of them.

Yeah it's about Thor 1's level. I barely remember 2 other than knowing it was shit and I'll never watch it again

I watched aquaman the other day, and as someone who usually hates modern DC movies, I thought it was ok
however everything about ocean master was unintentionally hilarious, and me and my friends kept laughing whenever he was on screen (he has a strange habit of doing weird hammy shouts at random)

It's not just sjw saying it. The movie is literally doing exactly that.

Nah. It'll make money but it won't bask in it. 300 tops. It's gonna do dismally internationally.

Ant man 2 was worse than Aqua

Hang yourself ladderfag

>The movie is literally doing exactly that
No, it isn't. You're acting like the movie is going out of it's way to defend the Joker and his actions.

>

Aquaman’s final battle was exactly what Thor Ragnarok’s third act should have been.

All the nice emotional moments in Ant-Man are replaced by jokes in the sequel. The only remotely interesting character moment in the sequel is Hope being mad at Scott for not asking for her help during Civil War. Shit, the sequel even managed to waste Walton Goggins, how do you fuck that up?

Can you imagine what Thor would have been like if they took the material seriously?
>Bill
>Ulik
>A garrison of Valkyries

Nigga, really? The whole thing was trying to get Janet back, it's the follow-up of the emotional plot of the first movie. Also, it's Scott trying to better himself as a person and trying to stay out of trouble for the sake of his daughter.

>sequel even managed to waste Walton Goggins
>implying there was anything to "waste" in the first place
