It means "The Emoji Movie 2".

based. sony takes over

You mean Emoji Movie 3

>Does this mean no zootopia 2?

After how shitty Ralph Breaks the Internet was, do you really want a Zootopia 2?

>sony is becoming the new powerhouse of animation

was anyone expecting this? at all?

no, it means Disney will buy sony next.

Japanese company, not happening

japan is now open to multiculturalism. say good bye to muh japan only laws

So much for The Simpsons crew reuniting under one roof. Sony Animation has become more creator-friendly lately, as evidenced by Spider-Verse. Rich Moore leaving Disney for Sony really shows that.

Sony moved to California, your move now punk.

I just hope it continues on Sony's end.

I wonder if he’s leaving due to the likely executive meddling of Ralph 2. It wasn’t the sequel he wanted at all.

I can see that.

Attached: tron.png (749x491, 61K)

Yes...I need more furry goodness.

...Why?!!! I mean, I know Disney is tough to work with but they pay well and have the most power/influence. Why give that up to go work for Sony?

He is.

He NEVER wanted Ralph 2 to be like this. This is a prime example of how executives can ruin everything they touch.

I don't blame him either, I would leave too

Are they? They just announced a Hotel Transylvania 4 and there hasn't been any news about the two movies Genndy signed on for.

That'll be four movies of his that got cancelled.

>So much for The Simpsons crew reuniting under one roof.
Sony has former simpson writer Jon Vitti.

Attached: angry birds Jon Vitti.jpg (630x1200, 157K)

Sausage Party, The Emoji Movie, Open Season, Smurfs 1&2. Today, I will remind them...

Hotel Transylvania 4 with Disney animation.

That's just their video game department. Sony HQ is still in Tokyo.

Looks like Disney isn't quite creator Rich anyMoore

I wouldn’t be surprised

No they're not dumbass

Attached: 1554345976078.jpg (750x751, 57K)

I think Angry Birds was only distributed by Sony

Ayy...

I’d prefer a tv show, has more potential and doesn’t dilute the film line any further. Cop adventures in different parts of the city is more interesting then a big plot

For me, it's The Mitchells Vs. The Machines’
>The Mitchells are a dysfunctional but loving family whose road trip is interrupted by a tech uprising that threatens mankind: all around the world, the electronic devices people love — from phones, to self driving cars, to a sleek new line of personal robots — turn on humanity. With the help of two malfunctioning robots and the family’s delightfully overweight pug, the Mitchells will have to get past their problems and work together to save each other and the world!
Phil and Chris are on another level.

I’m assuming that Spider Verse Made other animation director’s look at how, despite a set template, Sony finally started giving their crew creative control. SM1 and 2 were amazing because of that, but then Sony went full retard and meddled in every project. Now that they’ve apparently stopped that, big names are going to want in on their projects.

Yeah, word is Disney fucked the movie into the ground.

Moore might be the guy who adds soul to these movies.

If trips, EMOJI CINEMATIC UNIVERSE

no, they fused movies and games, then became an american company.

Byron is the most important person on the Zootopia team. This is actually very exciting; without Moore or Lasseter, the next movie will be closer in tone to the original shock collar concept. Not saying it'll undo the tone established in what we got, just that Byron will have more freedom to make a product less "commercial".

>going to Sony Pictures

It's like leaving your home to live in a porta potty

>the next movie will be closer in tone to the original shock collar concept
Doubtful they dropped it because they spent three years trying to think of a reason anyone would give a shit, and they still couldn't. the shock collar premise simply didn't fit the movie they were trying to make.

>Does this mean no zootopia 2?

Maybe he'll help making the next animated Spider-Man movie not play at 12fps

>Now that they’ve apparently stopped that,
You shouldn't make rules out of single occurrences. You are just going ot hurt yourself.

Not a surprise even Tetsuya Nomura during the Making of Kingdom Hearts 3 openly said something along the lines of:

"The Disney that we negotiated with during the creation of Kingdom Hearts does not exist anymore. Now there were more restrictions and limitations of how their animated movies could be presented."

And Disney also openly said NO to Oswald even getting a cameo in Kingdom Hearts as well. Putting it simply I see Disney burning the bridge with Square Enix I don't think Nomura wants to continue putting up with the mouse's bullshit rules. After all remember what he said after KH3 was released and it sold well? Nomura said in regards to Kingdom Heart's future status, IF the series has a future, IF the series has a future, IF the series has a future like three times in that interview. Basically the game sold well and yet Nomura acts like he's doubtful about the series having anything else. Methinks he's fed up with Disney and wants to kind of just drop working on this series because of Disney's more hands on intrusive approach to modern films and how they may be utilized.

Sad really because when you get down to it, if Square Enix calls it quits on Kingdom Hearts it's Disney who comes out victorious as they walk away owning Sora and the other characters created for the series aka the characters people actually give a damn about in this franchise. So remember now Wreck It Ralph's director is gone and soon Square Enix will abandon Disney if this routine continues.

>more freedom to make a product less "commercial".

Do you think a DISNEY suit isn't going to jump down on them the instant something conceptually looks risky? Those Disney business men and boards of directors for the company are no joke. They may not have talent in creating media, but they do have rank and status to make the lives of animators and creators very stressful. These kinds of men like Yes-Man drones who will just do as they say and when it fails they'll just get fired which explains why Lassetter was replaced by a woman who will just obey the higher ups.

Somebody said they restructured and are moving to more creative freedom who worked on spiderverse. It was one of the directors I believe.

Actually sora and whoever's is square enix's. At the end of 3 there is a special cutscene for completionists where they are in Tokyo like kingdom hearts was a dream and a new character shows up. O think they are setting up Disney less kingdom hearts.

I can't wait for him to be squandered on another Hotel Transylvania movie.

.....no. Disney 100% owns all original characters and worlds for Kingdom Hearts. They're the owners. Why do you think Sora's cameos in some of SE's other games are literal Limited Time Special Offers? Because Square Enix does not own the character.

Real shame, wish Square Enix would pony up the money and purchase all the rights to Sora and the original content of Kingdom Hearts.

I'm still angry those garbage movies are so successful despite being garbage. Even Ice Age at least the first film was good. Man...USA animation has a lot of shit that doesn't deserve to be successful being successful.

That's entirely possible. The movie looks like it was meddled with during production given its constant tonal shifts and the Oh My Disney! sequence.

Are we pretending this is a loss? Wreck It Ralph was garbage full of uninteresting and unlikable characters (Sarah Silverman voice acting as herself). The sequel was even worse shit.

The movies are harmless.

>more commerical
As in to Byron it was more of a passion project and everyone else was there to reign him in.

base-
>and the family’s delightfully overweight pug
nevermind, dropped

For all the shit Hotel Transylvania gets, I still appreciate how the animation is so bizzare and unlike most animated films.

What's the story on Ralph 2's production?

But why them? They have a slightly better track record than Illumination, but when Sony fucks up, Sony fucks up HARD.

These. The films are adorable.

Next one is probably going to tackle a different topic. They'll probably call back the pred scare, but it won't be a main theme.

That's a good joke there, user. I'm laughing because you're joking and not being sincere.

That's why you fuckers get banned even on Yea Forums

>Ralph sadly consoling Vanellope on the tag
On some subconscious level, they knew it wasn't meant to be.

Let's make WildeHopps canon, and the movie will tackle struggles of interracial/same sex couples.

No, they didn't have enough buildup for that. It'll come off as forced. Cute ship, just not feasible.

We have no idea, just a whole lot of interviews from before it went into production where he talks about things he'd like to see in the next movie if it got greenlit. A few things I remember are:
>a Tron cameo
>using Mario in a way that does him justice
>working in Angry birds somehow
>Ralph going to the internet so he can see how his game franchise had been evolving outside the walls of the arcade for the last 30 years
>Ralph meeting a hero version of himself from a Donkey Kong Country-esque spin-off, a violent version from a Smash Bros-esque game, and a version of himself from a mobile re-release of his original game that acts like him before he had 30 years of character development
>using the internet setting to visit video game franchises that wouldn't be in an arcade

You can probably make a good guess what happened between his early ideas and the final product.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Jennifer Lee?

>muh shock collars
Neck yourself. The original concept was comically nonsensical and on the nose and it was a good thing that they scrapped it.

>>Ralph meeting a hero version of himself from a Donkey Kong Country-esque spin-off, a violent version from a Smash Bros-esque game, and a version of himself from a mobile re-release of his original game that acts like him before he had 30 years of character development
This is almost word-for-word exactly what I was hoping for in Wreck it Ralph 2. The universe would've been expanded in a meaningful way instead of "LOOK R2D2".

Disney has an unhealthy monopoly over animation. Please Dreamsworks, Sony, and or Warner Bros. bring down the rat.

This. Can't believe it hasn't happened yet. Then again maybe it'll be another Tangled situation and in a few years they'll make one.

It's a relationship that could work equally well as romantic or platonic. Most Disney couples were put together after much less buildup than that.

18 years... Only one (1) good movie.

It's what I was hoping for myself. Not the story of venelope going turbo and leaving Ralph for another woman.

Didn't Boxleitner announce publicly that he was done with the Tron franchise?

>no TRON
>no Mario
>just stick Sonic in for a line and vainly display all of the properties which were snapped up by Iger

Leave it to Sony to give Disney a competitive kick in the pants, just like how they raised Nintendo out of its funk.

>closer to the tone
>Not saying it'll undo the tone established in what we got, just that Byron will have more freedom to make a product less "commercial".
Why do people keep misreading this?

Probably cuz it don't make sense cuz

"Closer to the tone" isn't literally "bring back the collars".

But dem feels man.

m.youtube.com/watch?v=SkJGLCleFmI&t=1s

Attached: zootopia-deletedscene-tamingparty.jpg (1257x588, 60K)

Lassetter was literally just as bad as Lee, and you're delusional if you think otherwise. Unless you actually think the Cars franchise has more soul than Frozen.

I have the strangest feeling Disney as a whole is going to start eating shit in the 2020's and spiral into bad times. Competition is getting crazy and Disney is against making any risky content. If Sony could throw out a few more big hits like Spider-Verse it could hurt Disney. I mean they have fucking Rich Moore, Genndy Tartakovsky, and Phil Lord/Chris Miller, that's a lot of kick ass talent to make a great braintrust like Disney/Pixar used to have.

You tell me that this Ghosn thing doesn't have a xenophobic air to it. Corporate Japan is as insular as they've ever been.

Yet another sign we're living in post Disney Revival Era. They're losing more and more talents that made last few movies good.

And what, exactly, is "closer to the shock collars" tone supposed to be? The problem aren't even the collars themselves, but the utter lack of subtlety and nuance in the original concept. Moreover, the simple mustache-twirling all-powerful oppressors/innocent powerless victims dichotomy is as "commercial" as it gets.

>wreck it ralph
>zootopia

Good riddance

Didn't they also say no to Marvel and Star Wars worlds because "They didn't own them" even though, y'know, they do?

I mean nothing would have stopped them.

>talents leaving or getting metoo'd
>Fox buyout
>overexposure of Marvel
>making 2 sequels back to back
Yep, I'd say Disney's going to be screwed come 2020.

Is the fox buyout a hole in their pocket in any way? They might end up in trouble if they have nothing to fall back on.

The dirtiness of the town, the darkness of the politics. The tone of the shock collar version wasn't just in the use of the collars, but the type of humor and the type of story. What we got instead was something we could barely tell had a problem with racism outside of foxes and bunnies. The casual racism of Judy's parents gives you an idea that those bunnies outside of Zootopia are more traditional with their fears, but we didn't really get that sense in the city until the news conference.

Mainly the tone was dark enough for the characters to be in more danger and for the ZPD to carry dart guns. It also would make the nighthowler pellets make more sense instead of it instantly passing the blood-brain through fur and hide.

I don't like the shock collars, just the tone that unified predators as oppressed, not just foxes. And it may seem that being more forward with racism is more commerical, but it's more risky the more obvious the "racism bad" moral is. As the movie stands now, you have people comfortable in thinking it's about general prejudice rather than a specific issue with prejudice.

maybe it's better that way

Sometimes concepts are better as just concepts, user. The shock collar stuff and the dark tone of the original didn't work and we've heard that from everyone involved in the production. Even Byron said it didn't work.

Attached: 1540256361592.jpg (736x732, 114K)

>same sex couples
That's 100% what he wants to do and without Moore there that's what he will do and why Zoo2pia has become a bad idea.

Attached: byro.jpg (332x400, 53K)

>Does this mean no zootopia 2?
It means it's just Byron, which is nice. And Jim Reardon is still at Disney?

Wasn't his Gay co-worker the main brain behind Zootopia?

Attached: 1367007279232.png (320x287, 104K)

He already got what he wanted in Bucky and Pronk, but they are hidden so maybe he'll be more forward in the next movie. I don't think he'll make a same sex couple the focus of the movie though.

Like who? All I can think of is the couple the ship they were trying to push in Frozen, but they are still officially in the "will they/won't they" phase.

Byron a shit, all what he can do is brutal slapstick.

youtube.com/watch?v=ZHURiOqMVTI

Attached: why does this take so long.jpg (538x538, 141K)

Why do you say that? Also, there's Jim Reardon and Josie Trinidad and Jared Bush.

>I don't think he'll make a same sex couple the focus of the movie though.
No, the focus would be Nick and Judy, but the social commentary on deck wouldn't be directed towards interracial relationships when he can bend it towards his preferred cause instead.

I would hope so, because fuck sequels, but I doubt that's stopping Gisnep.

nah it was just Howard Byron, who worked on the movie for 3 years and then Lassetter invited Rich Moore to help them fix the movie so it wouldn't look like Orvelian nightmare.

Attached: pixar saw some shit.png (1366x768, 1.92M)

And Disney will likely bury Sora forever and never speak of him again.

Good riddance to weeb trash.

It does to some extent, but Ghosn is also probably a legit crook.

That's pretty damn convoluted. It's going to be seen as being about interracial no matter how you slice it given the precedence of the previous movie. It could follow the old "gay rights are civil rights" line of reasoning, but it'll be hard to come to that conclusion given the previous movie.

Even though we're for sure getting more KH games? Sure bro.

Good
Probably tired of Disney only making safe mediocre sequels

so far we only got one.

People who worked on BH6 worked on Spider-Verse (Doc Ock using Soft Robotics). Wouldn't be surprised if he starts working on another animated Spider-Man movie

Probably explains why the Disney characters have mattered less with each game.

It's a shame as he was given massive freedom with KH1 and the council of villains thing was really neat.

Disney are going to treat their animation studios like Marvel and Star Wars aren't they?

Total control, everything must follow a clear established formula.

WiW2 reeked of execs controlling it.

Fun fact: no female character is ever directly insulted or criticized in the film. Even the joke about Vanellope being annoying is done in a way where no one actually says she's annoying. Noticed it about halfway through the film and it was painfully obvious after that.

I increasingly suspect that Lasseter was set up to force him out. Strange how a company that is top secret about everything and comes down like a ton of bricks on any dirty laundry, allowed all that stuff to get out.

Also remember Solo movie originally had lord and Miller but were fired because their direction was too off beat and then they moved over to spiderverse.

LMAO is that Ed Catmull beside him facepalming at this fucking cringe ass movie?

he's facepalming at this

youtube.com/watch?v=kpLX_gMwKms

Attached: d23_2013.jpg (680x478, 39K)

Keeping the shock collar element would have been a disaster. It would have made you really hate half the cast .

even after they ditched the collars, they still wanted to force hammy message with priviledged prey and oppressed predators.

Attached: privileged prey.png (2048x1536, 2.19M)

All the changes they made to this film really were for the better, Always thought it was smart the way they never quite made it a full race metaphor. All the 'bad' predators were men, the camp police officer was taken away from public view. It was all a bit mixed so it didn't feel like an on the nose lecture at the audience.

I think they wanted to make it much more of a comedy whereas Disney wanted a more quippy Indiana Jones.

The director change that annoyed me the most was the Ant-man one. Edgar Wright wanted a small (baddum tsh), tight heist movie, Disney wanted to introduce the newest Avenger so they lessened the heist part of the film, gave it a more prominent comedy sidekick (the rumours segment wasn't in the Wright script) and added the pointless avengers warehouse scene.

The Brave change amuses me because everyone assumes it was down to Lasseter being sexist. The director got changed because her plot had time travel and the ruined castle was ruined because the kingdom fell apart when Merida refused to do her duty. Disney were never going to allow a princess movie that said "you've lived a life of luxury as a princess so you need to accept this comes at a cost".

>closer to the tone
>Not saying it'll undo the tone established in what we got, just that Byron will have more freedom to make a product less "commercial".
Why do people keep misreading this?

>source: your ass

>implying Byron wasn't the genius leading Zootopia
Rich was holding him back

>Disney are going to treat their animation studios like Marvel and Star Wars aren't they?
They already are. It's why a lot of original and interesting productions got cancelled so more sequels can come out that are safe and reliable. We were supposed to get a feature length project that was going to use the Paperman technology and Disney could have had a new style and film to innovate with (which was Walt's core thing, merging innovative storytelling and film technology) but they let Spiderverse take that and now they get to taste regret.

Sony and Netflix are basically the best chances the US has for better animated films at the moment. Similar to the way DreamWorks and Pixar were ruling the late 90's through early 2000's.

Wow.
This explains why the squeal fucking sucked.

Attached: 1488908104087.jpg (184x184, 14K)

No, but the Emoji movie 2 is pretty much confirmed at this point

When I first saw Zootopia I was really excited for a sequel. Now I don't really care, doubt I'll go see it if it does come out.

>WiW2 reeked of execs controlling it.

You want to know what the sad part is you shit eating motherfucker asshole cuck? It's that Wreck It Ralph 2 made MORE money than the first film. So I guess kids love it.

Last chance for animation?

It's all queer agenda shilling user.
I'm not kidding.
Even teh stuff for kids.

Patreon is the last chance for cartoons.

How about we're at a point in history where the proper attitude is fuck media and kill the agenda propaganda making sons and daughters of cunts? Ever thought about that? Oh what's that? You're lazy and unwilling to do something about it? Enjoy your Leftist propaganda you Yankee Doodle wanker.

No they didn't user.
WiW2 stuff is sitting on the fucking shelves.
WiW2 kids shows on youtube get SHIT for views.
Disney faked it.
Disney has been shoehorning shitty feminist disney princess versions of women into the MCU for years now.
It was slight but it was there.

Scarlet Witch and Wasp are the most notable fuck ups.

The Wasp had everything she needed to be THAT heroine. The over the top pr and poularity addicted debutante action heroine who was doing it all for the fame and fortune and FUCK TONY STARK kind of thing.

Byron is the best director left in the WDAS. I hope he can direct new original rather than stick in sequel.

Wow, those story ideas sound way better than what we got. Ralph is a stand-in for Donkey Kong so it makes sense to see how his character would've developed past the arcades, not shilling Disney IPs and outdated internet memes.

By Japanese standards, maybe. By western standards he's probably an upstanding CEO. How does Japan expect to compete if they throw someone who hoisted a failing car company out of the gutter and into the realm of profit at a time when so many auto companies were failing because he made too much money and failed to report it "the correct way"?

Was he gay?

Yes of course, it was completely obvious

They wrapped it up just last month, so who knows what the result might be until at least a year or so from now.

They treat Pixar as Disney 2 and look where that got them.

ILM still works on outside projects (Ready Player One and Bumblebee spring to mind) despite the increase of Disney movies, so they're fine for the moment as Disney seems content to outsource their remakes to Moving Picture Company in the UK for some strange reason (I mean, why not just buy them from Technicolor if you're going to use them this much?) And given what they plan to do with Blue Sky, it seems like only ILM will remain mostly untouched.

>Patreon is the last chance for cartoons.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA Holy fuck the masturbatory hubris on these people is amazing

That would have been amazing. I think literally everyone would have rather had that instead of The Emoji Movie 2.0 that we got.

The reason they went to the Pixar lot for advice was because they couldn't make the shock collar thing work for several years. If they couldn't make it work for that long, it wasn't a good concept.

I liked Nick's punishment.

That's conditional on Sony not fucking anyone over like they have been with Genndy.

I mean, shit, *maybe* his Popeye movie wouldn't have been a game changing box office destroyer, but while we keep passing around the phrase "Emoji Movie 2.0", Sony passed on Popeye for the ORIGINAL Emoji mess.

They did though. Not at the level Europe does but they realized their population is decreasing at an alarming rate due to low births so they are going to soften restrictions on work visas. Also because they didn’t had enough people to build the 2020 olympics venues. I’m too lazy to look for the source though, look it up.

Sony should have him do a movie on their fate game

>The director change that annoyed me the most was the Ant-man one.
His original idea for Ant-man was terrible and was kicked off for taking too long with it, what we got was much better but Wrightfags will never fucking let it go.

There the very definition of unremarkable and the only reason why they're not pushed to the wayside here like Illumination movies is because of MUH ANIMATION retards and waifufags. If anything you should be upset at the existence of these films because its a waste of resources though after the last season of Jack I don't think Genndyfags even exist.

Here's hoping Lasseter's new studio doesn't get blackballed.

Maybe Disney+ will give it a stealth release to happen?
Could always do Zootopia 2 but even with how well it did the pack of merch compared to Frozen or even Wreck It Ralph suggests a film sequel wouldn’t be planned. It fits the Tangled and Big Hero 6 position of getting a series quite well imo and is better geared for that

I want more Judy

James Baxter is head of animation for Netflix.

You mean, billions of dollars later?

What are they doing to Blue Sky?

Probably going to dissolve them if anything.

Zoo2 was already in development before Ralph 2 was finished. You'll get a sequel.

Which movie would that be?
