You know, if Lucas had wanted to, he could have worked it so Anakin has at least one affair. Maybe with Ahsoka, maybe with some other woman, but the idea that he would sleep with another woman is interesting. I can see him doing it and still, nonetheless, being obsessed with Padme's purity and beauty. It would make him a hypocrite, but you could incorporate that into his fall to the Dark Side. The idea that he expects and demands so much from the people he's connected to, even as he makes excuses for himself and his own behavior, is a potent one.
The way the prequels and EU went is also good, but I think this other direction could have been explored.

Maybe, but part of Anakin's character that influenced his fall was his obsessive nature. He was so obsessed with and possessive of Padme that he looked past everything he was doing in order to save her. Him being unfaithful to the object of his obsession wouldn't really fit his character.

That does make me wonder how Anakin viewed sex. I wonder if he saw it as detached from love as the other Jedi did (and thus a sexual affair would mean nothing to him) or if he saw it as needing love to work. It's clear he only loved Padme but if the Jedi were fine with sex outside of a love context then maybe he would have an affair.
