Had some connection issues while uploading, which is strange, as Finnish internet is one of the worlds best. >inb4 the YLE gestapo knocks on my door in the middle of the night and I end up like pic related.

So far she hasn't appeared. But she'll probably appear at some point, since she's a pretty iconic character and they released earlier a concept art piece of her.
Future episodes are: ep 8: Muumipapan kalajuttu (Moominpappa's fishing story) ep 9: Yksin kotona (Home alone) ep 10: Muumimamman apulainen (Moominmamma's maid) ep 11: Kummitustarina (Ghost story) ep 12: Näkymätön lapsi (The Invisible Child) ep 13: episode name unknown at the moment
Judging by the names and descriptions of future episodes, ep 9 sounds like it could be the Groke episode.
I hadn't noticed it before, but Moomintroll's tailtuft slowly grows back during the story. Also, the panel where the kids have doodled drawings on Moominmamma's wallpaper has Tove's signature scribbled on the wall in a child's handwriting.
Because I do these about an hour after midnight, after having watched the episode online. You could blame missed lines, typoes and lack of general quality on rush and lack of sleep.
Yeah, there's something off with the subtitles. They don't read or flow very naturally. Plus they have periods after each line which is also unusual, at least in my experience.
Logan Long
Ah. Thank you user. I fixed it myself, no biggie. Thanks for supplying the materials to do so also.
James Long
KEK, it was very funny, now I understand why it was such a successful in its country.
Once again Snufkin and Little My don't seem to know each other despite being brother and sister Don't know if that is actually a spoiler or not but just in case.
That's.. disturbing. Oh dear. At the end: >Snufkin! You must tell my sister! Her sister is Mymble who is his sister too
Caleb Mitchell
Snufkin is so cute. I want to pick his small body up and peel his clothes off while he struggles to get out of my grasp.
Owen Butler
Whutttt From the official Moomin website: >Snufkin is Little My’s younger half brother – Little My is older than Moomintroll, Sniff and Snufkin, whose parents only meet each other when Little My is already born.
I thought Little My was just a mischievous little girl. She is a lot older than she looks.
Unprofessional, word for word translation of the Finnish subs with barely any localization. Couldn't even find or come up with a proper name for the Puuhisia (the weird bush kids).
For better quality, just wait for the official English release, if they even decide to do English subs. Seen some negative opinions on the dub from the trailers. I thought they sounded fine.
I feel like she is such a minor character that she is not going to show up. Even Stinky isn't on the cast list. Fucking Stinky! A much more prominent antagonist in the 90s anime.
Hey, anyone know where a guy can watch the pre-90's Moomins cartoons? Also, Is Moomin Valley good?
Jose Sullivan
The pre 90s ones are shit, don't waste your time. Tove Jansson hated them so much it was never allowed to leave Japan. She however loved the 90s anime.
Alexander Collins

I'm not sure if it's ever been confirmed, but I have my suspicions No-face in Spirited Away was as least partially inspired by the Groke. Miyazaki worked on the first Moomins cartoon back in the 70s.
The source of that scan was me. I didn't find the story anywhere, so I scanned it myself. I've looked into it a couple of times, but haven't seen scans of entire Moomin comics anywhere online at any point.
I haven't been watching the episodes with user's English subs and I can't comment on them. But past episodes have given me a vibe that this show is made primarily in English and only secondarily in Finnish. There are a couple of moments where the characters say something that sounds somewhat awkward in Finnish, and I can tell it's a wonky translation from a line that would work just fine in English. There are also some moments where the lip movements look very noticeably off with the Finnish audio. And then there's the English songs here and there.
So if you want to see the series as soon as possible: watch the episodes as they get released, even if you've got to deal with some odd translation moments. But if you're someone who wants the authentic experience and prefers hearing the characters in the original language: I think the English version is actually the original language of this series, even if it is a Finnish production. Plus if you ever watch movies or series just to see some popular actors/actresses, the English version is supposed to have a few famous names.

youtu.be/jZ3Ub-fnHuM I will watch it in English too to support the show when in broadcasts here but I’m now so used to the Finnish voices these English ones sound weird.
Jeremiah Foster
Oh man, I had no idea this was out and I even backed the crowdfunding. Thanks for sharing OP.
Kevin Butler
Nice, thanks. And wow, the colors in the Japanese version have such soft pastel tones. The end result looks so different that I had trouble even recognizing some scenes from it.
You can watch the so far aired episodes in YLE Areena stream service, if you are Finnish or use proxies. Alternatively check the google drive at for subpar quality English subs by yours truly. Credited as "Mystery subber" because I seek no glory.
I forgot to translate the very first line of "tuo oli hauskaa" (that was fun) and didn't bother look through the finished job. Couldn't find a reasonable translation for the bush kids name. Also mildly annoying typoes here and there.
The word "puuhinen" should most likely be translated as "woodie". That's what the English edition of "Moominsummer Madness" called the kids that followed Snufkin around.
Yeah, they seem like somewhat obscure characters. I read the book some time back, but kinda had this memory that the group of kids were just normal children. I kept thinking until a moment ago that the kids in the newest episode were some kind of cartoon OC species.
I run the risk of inciting the ire of /cm/fags but snufkin is overrated imo. He's a good character, but everyone's obsession over him has always escaped me.
Ryan Garcia
I think that snufkin is pretty cool but sometimes I get the idea that he is a little boring and irresponsible, he doesn't want love, he doesn't want family, he doesn't want a home, he doesn't want children. What's the deal with this dude? Why is he so scared of responsibilities? He sounds very similar to his father.
Heh, that sounds like an strong and independent woman. The answer is very simple user, he is wandered but own a home, being a father, being a lover and a husband implies responsibilities and if you have responsibilities you can't be an adventurer. But I consider it sad because he could be just like his father, a lazy man who never decided to look for other people, he is probably... Snufkin behavior can be easily very egoist.
Aiden Jones
Two questions anons, why was she sleeping in a nest? and do you... huh... ship them at some point of your lives?
Begins with an F and with me hopefully I live in a forest too after all.
Robert Gomez
Why's he always talking about crime. Is this a meme I've missed out on?
Kevin Lewis
I don't think there's anything wrong with being an egoist, that's different from being egotistical. He's just living for himself and he's not causing anyone else any harm by living the way he does.
Brody Smith
But he breaks Moomin's little heart every Winter when he goes away.. to do god knows what.
It sounds like selfishness but I guess it isn't so bad when your alone but if you're with other people you could see the consequences of it
Carter Rivera
That comic panel is an edit. The screenshot is legit, though. youtube.com/watch?v=UYNpIn4fJrA Context: Moominvalleys' police station was about to get shut down because there had been no criminal activity at all. Moomin and Snufkin decided to fake a string of thefts so that the policeman can continue to keep his job.
Cute. I want a Moomin plush, would get Snufkin too but they're all pretty ugly.
Easton Bennett
Knowing her, most likely
Ethan Foster
Anyone got any Moomin merch? I hear Arabia mugs are the quintessential Moomin collectable. They're like £20 each and I ain't spending that on a mug. The travel mug/thermos type things however are much more reasonable at £8.
>£20 That's cute. People are paying thousands for the mugs. Moomin mugs are serious business to a degree that there have been counterfitting and ATTEMPTED MURDER over them.
Jonathan Moore
Serious? Geez. This one just came out and I want to own at least one but £20 is too much and I'm not poor by any means. It doesn't help that I work for a store that sells really nice decorated ceramic mugs for as little as 80p.
Parker Carter
It's all about the brand and cultural heritage and shit. One time when a new Moomin mug was released, there was an outrage among customers because the online store had lagged out and caused a lot of customers to not be able to purchase any mugs. So most of them went to lucky scalpers selling the mugs at inflated prices and those that waited +5 hours outside the stores.
Kayden Garcia
>counterfitting and ATTEMPTED MURDER Could you elaborate on that? I love Moomins and mugs as much as the next persons but that seems a tad too much.
Jeremiah Walker
Remember not to lewd any cast member of the Moomins.
Josiah Long
Little My is superb.
Aaron Baker
I just bought this lunch bag for work, it's really nice, well insulated, and cute as hell. I've got a nice Moomin plush too. It sucks that a lot of nice merch is only available from UK sellers, and as a buger the exchange rate is murder.
The Out of the Pages Snufkin is really cute, but it's from 2015 and hard to find. There's a plush by Noori that's not bad too. I've been keeping an eye out for either, but they don't seem to pop up too much anywhere.
I might be remembering wrong. It's been a while since I read the articles and even then they were "small news" that tended to get drowned out by more hot news about some celebrity being caught with drugs or going into rehab or getting out of rehab.
Point still is that people are coocoo for Moomin merch and the ceramic mugs are the fucking Holy Grail every time new one comes out. The mug mentioned in happened to be a rare 1 day only mug made and sold for Tove Janssons birthday.
I’ve been up all night looking for merch to buy when I get paid next, it’s becoming an obsession. I’ve never really cared about the Moomins, not as a kid when the anime was on tv and not a few years back when the Riviera movie was on tv and I didn’t even make it half way through but this new series has me hooked. This is going to become an expensive collection..
Nathaniel Evans
Miyazaki also worked on preproduction of Pippi Longstocking anime but they never got the okay from owner of the IP so the project got halted.
Please, for the love of the Sacred Valley, don't fall into the never-ending consumer-pit of the Dreaded Moomin. On another note, is this show any good? Watched half of the first half of the first ep and thought it was soulless CG crap with shitty artstyle and bad as fuck voiceacting that makes the japanese version into a masterpiece in comparison.
En tajua miksi Iltis jaksaa puskea tyhmiä otsikoita jostakin muumimukista jossa kuvatkin on printattu päin vittua.
Gabriel Sanchez
I've got one mug which's value is in 100s of euros. I got it back in the 90s though when I was a child.
Angel Scott
People who hate Snorkmaiden obviously haven't read the comics. She's hilarious in them, and sympathetic in her ditzyness.
Elijah King
I think that particular story only appeared as a novel, and never got a comic based on it. The 1990s anime featured an adaptation of it, though.
The comics and the novels are kinda different. They sometimes go through the same stories, but their takes can have pretty large differences. Like for example, in the books Moomin first met Snorkmaiden in the story about the comet, but in the comics they had already met long before the comet story. The tone of the novels is more somber and wistful, whereas the comics were in the daily gag format that made them feel a bit more snide. They also had some moments of black comedy that would probably not fit the novels that well.
It sucks that no one is ripping the japanese dub. The second episode should be airing tomorrow. It's being shown on the NHK premium channels, so I can't even catch a stream of it.
Being scandinavian, moomin merch has been ingrained in me since the day I was born. I remember having a little moomin house with figures of all the characters when I was little. I also bought a few mugs and fridge magnets for myself last time I went shopping for kitchen appliances.
Anyone here got the link for the episode 4? Mine is not working.
Christian Rodriguez
Why do you want the Japanese dub? I can understand a monolingual person wanting to see a work in his own language, or a bilingual person wanting to see a work in its original language. But what benefit would the Japanese dub have in the case of this series?
I'm just a weeaboo, user. No but really, I don't know a lick of finnish. Even with subtitles, I don't get as much enjoyment out of watching a series in a language which I don't understand a single word of. I watched the 90's anime raw, so that's the Moominvalley I'm familiar with.
Charles Watson
There are actually a handful of English episodes online, but I'm reluctant to share them because the studio has only been making them public due to a mistake and I'm hoping they'll upload episodes of another show they're working on. Have the English episodes aired anywhere or are the four I'm talking about the only ones up?
Juan Smith
Gee, I wonder why Tove didn't like it
Aaron Jackson
It’s in the Google Drive link linked in the thread
Oliver Miller
She also commented how the child choirs singing were creepy or something, like I think it was a comment on the sound track of the series or something. How it felt cold and emotionless.
Connor Morgan
Wait no, she thought it sounded aggressive
After the first anime it took 20 years for people to convince Tove to give it another try
Moomin Valley English version? It premieres in English on Sky One UK April 19th from 2am to 6am where it marathons episodes 1 to 8. Who the fuck will be watching at the time for a kids show? Very bizarre given Sky UK coproduced the show.
Tove's dislike as far as I can tell was mostly for the 69 series itself. I don't know if she paid much attention to the 72 followup that she let them do on the requirement it would only be distributed in Japan. That being said, since it was more or less a continuation rather than a new series...
Easton Garcia
Weird, the newspaper I read the other day said it was premiering at 5;30pm with no mentions of other times
Julian Campbell
The characters get drunk, act badly, Snufkin brandishes guns and knives.. it's very odd.
Colton Long
To the Japanese, that's cool shit. Not right for Moomin, of course.
Owen Turner
To be fair, it looks like 19th is Friday, so kids may be allowed to stay up late. Still though, its like they are trying to kill its ratings or limit the demographic to us nostalgia boomers.
Dominic Thompson
I was hoping they would accidentally upload the Sly Cooper cartoon, but I guess the odds there are low. Here you go. Episodes 9, 10, 11 and 12 in English.
And it is quite apparent now watching the English version that this is the original. The mouths match perfectly whilst the Finnish one has problems matching in parts, though barely noticeable really.
Kinda suprised to see this thread live past Tuesday AND Wednesday. Must be that Snufkin magic and the fact that official english release is nearing.
Still not sure if I should keep doing the subs for finnish audio, considering we got leaks of the english episodes. Surely those lads at Moominhunt could take up the mantle.
Is Snufkin actually being a girl and Little My being a boy some kind of meme? Seems to pop up from time to time which makes no bloody sense.
Michael Cruz
and the bitch STILL isn't satisfied in these leaked episodes either.. why does he put up with her shit when he can get with perfection that is Snufkin?
James Allen
>Seconds before Moomin bashes her over the head with his paddle and leaves her in the river
How old is Moomin supposed to be anyway? Unless I'm remembering wrong, the anime was the only time he was voiced by a girl to make him sound young, any other adaptation I've seen he's voiced by men.
Nathaniel Richardson
I would guess around 18 or 17, as this current show has a theme of maturity and attempting at independence in most episodes.
Parker Johnson
Given Little My is actually older than Snufkin and therefore a grown woman so who knows. I'd guess he is a young teenager? He has a girlfriend and seems pretty smart but at the same time he still plays with toys and has a childlike sense of wonder so..
Fun fact, Takehito Koyasu (who voiced DIO in JJBA) was also the voice of Snufkin in Tanoshii Moomin Ikka (that one 90's anime adaptation of Moomin).
Hello, I smell a Moomin/Phantom Blood crossover coming along...
>Snufkin returns to Moomin Valley, then proceeds to kick Little My in the face >Snufkin kisses Snorkmaiden, then says, "Your first kiss wasn't with Moomin, it was with me, Snufkin!" >Snufkin later puts Little My in the trash burner, burning her alive >Much later, Snufkin stabs Moominpappa, then uses his blood to power a stone mask >Snufkin becomes a vampire, and says stuff like "Do you remember how many slices of bread you've eaten in your lifetime?"
I could go on, but I'm pressed for time...
Carter King
That last face he makes while looking at the nail is priceless.
