Honestly, why did Garfield hate Mondays? It isn't like he has a job

Honestly, why did Garfield hate Mondays? It isn't like he has a job.

Jon does the weekly grocery shopping on Tuesdays.
By the time Monday has rolled around, Garfield has eaten nearly all of the food in the house and has to conserve what little is left until the next day.

He misses Jon

Cosmic forces.

Because Mondays hate him.

Mondays hate him back.

Jon is a cartoonist. His job is at his house

>only change in the entire strip is his pupils
Jesus Christ, some intern probably made this in 5 minutes, and Davis probably made thousands off of it.

>why did Garfield hate Mondays?
Because it was a constant reminder that his week would be meaningless and devoid of anything remarkable. Every week would be the same as the week before it, and there is no escaping this hell of a reality in which he is trapped. He will always be watching the same unoriginal crap on TV. He will always be harassed by Odie. He will always be embarrassed to be around Jon. And nothing will ever change since he can't escape, not even into death. A normal cat wouldn't live much past the age of 20. Garfield has been stuck in the same groundhog-day hell for 40 years now. And every Monday, the cycle begins anew.

Why do you think his favorite TV show is a sarcastic and sadistic clown who obviously does not give a shit?

An old running joke where he had bad luck every Monday.

Why did you waste your time typing all this when there's an actual canon reason

Seething

Yeah, and Napoleon Solo was supposed to be a ladies man, but we all knew better.

Monday is a euphemism for the great burden of knowledge that comes with sentience. It harkens back a beautiful reference to Nietzsche's classic "Thus Spoke Zarathustra". I get a chuckle thinking of the brainlets who scratch their poor heads at this dichotomy. Truly they are a diamond dozen in these doggy dog days.

Sympathy pains

That's the joke.

It’s almost like he so lazy that the routine of those around him bother him

Me and my brother has a discussion about this before.

My brother thinks it’s because he misses jon when he goes to work, while i think it’s because garfield doesn’t have a reason to get up monday mornings and its supposed to be funny that he hates mondays despite having no responsibilities.

The actual reason is that monday just reminds garfield that hes a fucking housecat with nothing to do with his existence.

Why can't it be both? He misses Jon because , without someone (moderately intelligent enough) to pester around he is confronted with boredom and gets a mini existential crisis

Why would anyone miss Jon Arbuckle

Shut up meg

Reminder that Jim Davis cribbed the whole "I hate Mondays" schtick from another, better newspaper comic.

Mondays aren't really bad, if anything Wednesdays are the worst. There's a reason suicide rates double on Wednesday and it's because it sucks.

This comic is like healthcliff

Somewhere out there there's a guy on the edge and when it gets to Wednesday and he realizes it's the middle of the week and he's still got 2 more days until the weekend he's just going to fucking lose it.

>Wednesday was when we’d be forced to visit our repulsive old granny
Yes, you have a point.

Yeesh George stop being such a fag!

But Wednesday is comic book day!
