Also another little something i've been working on. Not exactly a webcomic but a short animated series i'm thinking of doing, and these are the main characters.

Reposting this

Green haired girl is a cutie. I've always been a big fan of that hairstyle. I don't THINK I invented it, but I can't remember where it came from.

Detail porn, holy damn nice.
I love that bike but that guy is going to sunburn something fierce. is that a cute alien grrl on his wifebeater?

New artwork for my next comic!

I hope this makes it big and we get licensing with glow in the dark action figures

coming up with some ideas for redesigns. I'll probably go with something like in the bottom right corner, though I can't shake the feeling that Evelyn is a bit over designed compared to the other two

Attached: redesigns.png (1300x1000, 595K)

miniclones make great armrests.
I think the cutest styles here are the top left and the absolute middle, but they're all kind of the same. Love that ol' classic peanuts casual leaning leg-cross. I'm not even sure what that would look like in real life.

Oh man, I WISH. That would be so cool!

So this took way longer to complete than intended. I was having to work through severe back pain and was putting it off for days. (gastric sleeve/back pain/ liver failure user here. Turns out the back pain was a severe Vitamin D deficiency and the liver problem was Gilbert's syndrome and totally benign.)

Anyway this is a character sheet/height chart for the first chapter of my comic which I will be starting this week. Its my first time playing with grey scaling and my line work is still shit.
The first chapter is to feature Tad filling in with a Power Rangers knock off called the Saurus Squad and causing general havoc. Most of these are one offs, however Righteous Rex gets kicked off the team and is forced to crash at Tad's place, becoming a sidekick.
Drak is a recurring Kaiju that inexplicably shows up whenever there is need for a Kaiju. He is a sweetheart.
I had to make it much smaller to upload. hopefully it didnt fuck up.

Attached: Tad Danger height chart.png (7992x1688, 2.11M)

I was inspired by Kumatora from mother three for her hair style.

The world needs more robot dinosaur comics. Bless you right up the ass and good luck with sorting out your health shit. I just got a particularly fun diagnosis myself and now I get to wait until someone's available for a ride to the place.

Thanks if you like that kind of stuff, I made some more for the past inktober (a bit more messy tho)

>is that a cute alien grrl on his wifebeater
Just a regular girl, the antenna is in fact a fold on the character's tanktop

Attached: 14.png (1180x814, 494K)

Interesting! I can kinda see that
and now that I think about it, I was probably doing a modified Radical Edward.

thanks my man. my health is on the up swing. now that we know what is wrong, i got some new meds.
just gotta take 50,000 mlg vitamin D bombs for a month and i should be back to my old self.

a laudable goal! I certainly would like if my comic were seen as some kind of adventure time foreshadowing, or just a successor to the good old days of anime, but I'd settle for 'the true successor of old sprite comics except drawings'

Taking about a tenth of that right now myself. Turns out staying out of the sun all winter actually was contributing to my low energy. I thought that didn't affect anyone as white as me. Certainly didn't feel 'seasonally affected' but blood tests make fools of us all!

I tried to get this guy into Discord for months
No success.

>What are you doing to advertise your work?
Nothing.
>What's your advice for others?
Do something!

Sorry, I'm not really a discord person, and I'm not a fan of art/comics focused community

Just started a comic about aggressive politically correct students that go to Twitter Academy.
It's a parody of the anime Kakegurui. It's funny, I want people to see and enjoy it but am terrified of the controversy I'm inviting.

Attached: page1e.jpg (940x1183, 653K)

>not a fan of art/comics focused community
How do you even have fun in your daily life.

It's a strange position to be in
on one hand, it needs to be said, because these ways of thinking need to be shot the fuck down
on the other hand, the worst thing to do to these people is give them any attention or acknowledgement.
I say just express yourself, say what you have inside you to say, and leave it at that. Don't expect any response other than what you'd expect by saying it with regular words instead of a comic.

mind you, I was talking about internet community . I got plenty of artsy social interaction in my daily uni student life

filthy normie
naw that's awesome I'm glad you get to experience that. glad your art education experience is unlike those of friends i've talked to

I had this idea for a while, so I drew it.

A sister is annoyed and disturbed about her brother, who has weird imaginations that become real, yet they always resemble their mother...as "questionable" beings.

As his sister wishes why she has a brother like this, their mother views his imagination figures of her as just cute and even funny.

What you guys think? Still thinking about title but I think it'll be called "My weird brother"

Attached: 1.png (640x1628, 305K)

Man why is he kicking a sweet little raccoon though

First, I love this style. Not just how they're drawn, but your expressions and sense of humor. This is really believable.
the premise has a funny tone, but I feel like this is just one gag you would have in a larger story of quirky siblings. It's less funny the more you focus on this specific thing, and it couldn't really carry a whole comic I feel.
I guess there'd be more to it with the whole "they become real" thing, that could lead to lots of interesting stuff, but then it begs the question of why there are such blasé reactions to it. If you hadn't told me, I'd have assumed this is just a narrative device where we see the creature here with them, but in real life he just drew a picture of it and showed it to everybody.

>What do you want you/your comic to be remembered by?
As fun! My hope is for them to give the same, excited feelings that my favorite movies, shows, and comics gave me.

>What are you doing to advertise your work? What's your advice for others?
I post pictures and updates often of my comics and artwork across various social media, interact with others, and have had Kickstarters which helped advertise as well.

My advice? If you ever find yourself stuck, unsure what to do, what to draw, or where to start or go with your work.... Just keep drawing!! Go for it, don't let yourself get bogged down. And of course, have fun. Picture absolutely related

Attached: Screen Shot 2019-04-06 at 7.19.42 PM.png (468x384, 255K)

your mum is gay

First rule of manufactured outrage: if being upset is reasonable, then it's the event itself that's manufactured (for outrage-related purposes)

>the premise has a funny tone, but I feel like this is just one gag you would have in a larger story of quirky siblings. It's less funny the more you focus on this specific thing, and it couldn't really carry a whole comic I feel.

Great point! I'll try to fix that, I could see it becoming dull

>"My weird brother"
Funny thing, i'm making a comic with the same name.

Attached: nya.png (30x30, 2K)

also have I seen your art before? Looks familiar.

I don't have wifi so that helps and I'm super unknown too.
Wow, nicely put. If you don't mind, I might take that. I plan to mix in some Ned's declassified survival guide styled tips.

Attached: page2e.jpg (940x1183, 559K)

Sure thing pal. I feel like having the right kind of wisdom is important for this kind of comic not falling flat on its face. Feel free to share stuff in here as you go.
>don't have wifi
er?

Man why DID he build his house on raccoon territory?

>And you tried to buy them off with a string of beads!
>What? You mean that time a raccoon stole my necklace?
>This is like that time you contributed to that fund to have all the elephants sent to a reservation
>RESERVE! it's a nature reserve!

So can't use my laptop for internet, only my phone and use data. Plus I hate touch screen typing and scrolling.

Panel with a repurposed(?) gag from a Neon Star page that I was gonna upload by itself on April fools but didn't finish because of jetlag
I'm not gonna say what it is because it'd spoil the joke

also new updates every friday

Attached: menace.png (631x567, 375K)

I feel like I'm missing something about the premise of your situation. Why does the way you access the internet have anything to do with you worrying about doing a politically-charged comic and getting a certain reaction?

the discord is kinda lame anyway

Please give us synopses of the comics you're writing.

Well, I drew lewd stuff in the past (still do) but I've been so busy with life, I don't have time with much stuff anymore, yet I want to at least make ONE comic before I kick the bucket or something.

I mean I got like hundred ideas that I've drawn and placed in different folders and never got to work on, it kinda sucks.

Ah, such is life

Oh no, I meant that if I were to get any reactions, there's a high chance I won't notice it since I don't really stay connected to the internet. But I guess I would when I go to post the next one eh? I'm an idiot.

IDK am I posting too much? Only one pg left though

Attached: page4e.jpg (940x1183, 689K)

huh, so I wouldn't know another work of yours? Coincidence then maybe
OH i see. That sounds like it would help. More people need to stay the hell off of social media. But then, that's where you'll get your material from for this.

I actually had other work on here but I don't remember, so maybe

How do you guys cope when you're unable to work because you're relying on somebody else to finish their part first and you can't do yours without them?

FaustFall update! Only one page tonight, though. I'm late with the back cover, so I'll hopefully have it posted by tomorrow night or Monday.

How many comics do you work on Nyamo?

There's so much material, and more just keeps coming. I can't keep up with it all. It writes itself, the only work is making it a funny joke. And drawing it of course.

This. I've been on this really slow, long-term project and it requires a lot of input from the guy at the top, so I'm doing my own crud in the meantime.

Whoa, the stone-hand guy really beefed up
>Beefed Julia Holter edition

just beware of strawmanning. i might enjoy this comic, we'll see as it continues

>What do you want your comic to be remembered by?
Mostly for it's action scenes and character designs.

>What are you doing to advertise your work?
I used to get on some small podcasts and go to comic creator meets. Both of those options aren't really too possible anymore so I'm mostly just posting on social media or here. Tbh I'm not really doing hardcore advertising as much as I should, there's no complex reason I just don't really feel like it right now. Constantly trying to shill before just felt draining and annoying.

Anyways here's a look at Page 16 from Tom N Artie #2. This issue should be wrapped up in another month then it'll be getting uploaded on two pages a week schedule.

Color test

Attached: zaptest2.png (1641x1199, 1.49M)

I suggest anytime there are ones layered on top of other ones, they should be conspicuously lighter, so they show up well and you get a sense of depth.

By linking to the least read page here.
tapas.io/episode/1282947

Yeah, I'm def. going to make Lance's clothes darker when I do the real colors in. Matt's aura effect has a specific color range I'm sticking to because it's the emphasis of the panel, so everything around it needs to be darker.

Hmm okay, but I see some lighter pink zigzags around his hand, maybe those could line up a little better with the arrows that are atop the central pink energy cluster, and then those arrows show up better. Just a thought.

page update, getting to edgy parts :(

No worries, this was a quick scribble for me to play around with the colors on, when I do the real fills the lighter areas will line up with the outlines.

This is still like, 10x better than what Dewd does.

i would never show anyone i know irl my comic

>I don't ever show my art to my friends or family either, it just feels weird.
lol, why not?

Honestly dunno man. I don't even think it's bad or something to be ashamed of, but there's just something odd about it that I don't like. I'd much rather just keep it to myself and people on the internet.

Not the same user, but I don't because I'll either get blind praise (thanks, mom) or told off for wasting my time/"talent" on useless hobbies.
I don't show friends anymore because I was getting those same reactions with a dose of "but wouldn't you make money if you did X or Y instead?".

Sounds like the only reason you guys don't is that you're scared of what people would think of your stuff.

Quick rough bit from Space Pack! For all the daytime tv lovers out there!

A look at the cover for Tom N Artie Tales #2 which is being drawn by the creator of 'Tales of Jasper Gold'. The second Tales issue is going to mix it up by having new writers do each of the stories and a new batch of artists to draw them.

tapas.io/series/TOM-N-ARTIE-TALES

I think this user just doesn't want blind praise. I don't really show alot of my close friends the stuff I work on unless they ask but they see it anyway on my social media feed. The only ones I directly show stuff to are art friends when I'm reviewing layouts for a page.

Attached: TnA_Tales_Cover_Pencil_resized.png (960x1484, 1.84M)

Oh, no. Now the aliens know the horrors of JG Wentworth.

Can't imagine an existence of being strapped to a chair watching Jerry Springer, Maury, Judge Judy, and Jeopardy reruns...

Blind praise, I get not wanting, but I guess I got lucky and pretty much grew up around friends who also all liked to draw, and even into adulthood friends still liked to as hobbies and even some as professions. So, I guess we all kind of gave and took criticism in stride.

My mom would probably be the only one who would give maybe more praise than criticism, but she also would tell me if something doesn't look right. But beyond just that, my mother is the type of person who, nevermind the art, just thinks that life is too short and people should follow their heart and do what they love.

My dad was originally "How can you make money doing art?" But considering my step-brother makes six figures a year doing art....that's kinda shut his mouth on that subject.

>But considering my step-brother makes six figures a year doing art...
Really? What does he do?

>My dad was originally "How can you make money doing art?"
Why does everyone have this same mentality?

I fear the poor alien will never, ever be the same....

The cover looks awesome!!

I suppose you're right, I do always think that people will have a different idea about drawing than what I actually do. I think, when you say "I draw" people automatically expect some photorealism shit but I really mostly just draw in a cartoon style that might not be appealing to everyone. I do my best to avoid the subject altogether in order to avoid potential embarrassment, but that's a shell I really gotta break out of if I ever want to achieve at least semi-popularity with my work.

>Really? What does he do?
To honest, I'm not 100% sure, but he either works for some design firm, or consultancy, or something. I mean, he's done well either way, because he's bought a house, recently gotten married, paid off his student loans (at an art school, no less) and achieved a lot.

And he actually started out as kind of a poor street rat in the tagging/skating scene, then he was kind of doing some of his own shit, like making stickers and other little trinkets of his art. Went to one of the Art Institutes (which admittedly, he said was a waste of time and money, like all arts schools) but when he got out of there he was doing freelance stuff, and slowly got jobs here and there, short and long term until he got where he is now.

>Why does everyone have this same mentality?

I think a big part of it is just that parents want you to succeed (and not come to them for money, should you fall on your face) and doing art requires a shitload of effort, time, and motivation by the person, and if you kind of fuck around, you're not really going to get anywhere.

That said, the scope of being "an artist" is huge and diverse, since being an artist can range from anywhere from drawing comics, to doing package design, to doing shit on computers, to designing books and layout and blueprints, etc, etc, and all that can kind of start out as random doodles on a notebook when you're a kid.

>What do you want you/your comic to be remembered by?

...i hate saying this...i wanna be known as that guy who made those monster waifus for horndogs..

but to also make a coming of age story with the metaphor of teenage hood being portrayed by literal monster teens...cuz why not?

shame i'm more into guys then girls since i can barely think of good monster girl ideas besides that cute one eyed demon girl.

unless that's the intention and this guy just sounds super creepy
I love how creepy dolls look super realistic even in art styles where people don't look like that, even though dolls are patterned on real people.
So as usual I'm a little confused, it looks like she managed to circumvent the creepy guy's trap by just having pity on the poor thing and taking him willingly?

they look cute

>a cute bowd who is friends with a ghost? but why do we have to wait 5 weeks? I wanna read it noww

It's gonna take 5 weeks because I havent even started yet haha. I do know where to take the story and stuff. I'm just motivating myself to get the script done and the first chapter done in 5 weeks.
Also, although her friend is technically a ghost, she is infact a slightly more complicated invisible ghost zombie. It'll be further explained in the first chapter and is quite important to the story.

well then allow me to 180 for a moment
don't feel too bad if you can't hold yourself to a deadline like that if you're just starting and don't know yet how long things take. Especially with tricky stuff like making an invisible character look proper and not just like someone's clothes flew off
>invisible ghost zombie
aw like her visibility died but not her ability to move around. Well good she has a bird friend. Come to think of it, birds can see in UV and shit, I wonder if maybe the ghost is more visible to her.

>I think this user just doesn't want blind praise.
Exactly.
In regards to art, I had a big fish, little pond thing going on while I was growing up. I was better than most of my classmates and friends so I got a lot of pats on the head but no advice to get better. But because of the internet I knew I wasn't the best, or even great to be honest, but had no way to get better since everyone was always telling me how much better than anyone else [in the pond] was instead of pointing me in a direction of improvement (and It was the 00's so most online art courses were anime/manga). I wound up frustrated and stuck in a rut largely because I felt blind and any form of positive comment felt condescending.
"This looks awesome!" Thanks, but how do I make it better? "Just keep doing what you're doing!" ...Gee, thanks.

It feels weird being able to throw random art on to the boards and get people to rip it apart now.
Makes me feel almost masochistic, but hey at least I'm now getting to improve now.

sorry for being ranty, a lot of frustration here

Also if you take a minor local legend with a really stupid stupid name and neglect to name it, suddenly it's not stupid. For ex, Tikbalang, Penanggalan, Huldra, Jersey Devil... okay that's a lie, Penanggalans are dumb no matter what you do to them

naw I know how you feel

>Penanggalans are dumb no matter what you do to them
change the 'dangling entrails' to something more like tentacles and that's not bad.

>It feels weird being able to throw random art on to the boards and get people to rip it apart now.
>Makes me feel almost masochistic, but hey at least I'm now getting to improve now.

That's the other side of the spectrum, and just about as useless and dumb as getting blind praise. People are far more critical on the internet just by virtue of the whole "faceless goon" aspect that comes with being online and on message boards.

Real criticism touches on both your strengths and weaknesses, and what you did well, but what you still need to work on.

Thanks for the support, user!
also, there will be a hiatus starting this monday, dont wait to see new page until next monday after that

Attached: posterwolfenglish.png (1382x2048, 1.08M)

True, but most the times where I've gotten feedback has been a nice balance of both. This looks good, but that looks off, here's some advice/video, etc. It's all comments I can work with for improvement.
And even with blind criticism I might get, it rounds out better in the long run with the blind praise. I know it sounds weird or counter-productive, but as I said I haven't had a lot to work with in the past and need to take what I can get. Self-critique only gets me so far.

If you have any recommendations that can help, like forums or whatever, hit me up so I can check them out in the future.

i love this, will you upload the comic on Tapas?

no mistakes. Sorry to hear about your pen, I always keep a spare tablet pen because of how frazzling it was the first time it broke (and I've been through like 6 tablet pens, some of which I've been able to repair)

oh no, its not a tablet pen, I draw on a paper traditionally. Its a stylograph or whatever its called. Sadly I only had one that was 0.2. Still just now I tried drawing it with a 0.4, looks bad but I dont care much. Just for this page ill do the job with it.

Ill buy an actual drawing tablet next week.

>no mistakes
Thank you very much, I was really doubting that one.

Right I'm just saying the same goes for your digital equipment, always gotta have a backup. I would think for ink pens that's less expensive.
But hey tablet for you, that'll be great.

Post some stoic philosophy for the thread.

Because art is a skill that requires countless hours of practice outside of the college course work lessons and very few people in those programs do that stuff. My ex gf was like this when I was in uni , she was in graphic design but never practiced outside of her courses and thus never made it in the art world.
soWhen you do something like business degrees or whatever you mostly are proving that you can be taught shit that the company needs. An artist should know that stuff and produce off the bat. My take anyway

However, it's clear you've got to do careful shape construction before going ahead with a drawing, so things are shaped, positioned, and proportioned right.

You can hire voice actors for webcomics? wtf

I COULD be working on my webcomic idea, I got the whole script completed and revisioned, it's 100% done... But now I realize I don't wanna do it 'cause it's too much work.
Now I'm not the type of guy to shove blame, I'm lazy, I know it, but I also recognize that if I were in a better emotional state I'd probably be a lot more motivated to draw. Back in 2015 I was extremely productive art-wise when I stumbled upon a group of people I (thought I) really "clicked" with, you know? They didn't actually contribute to my art, like physically, but them making me feel good made me feel like I could take on the whole world.
End of the blog. Maybe someone else can relate

Oh no, it's for a web toon, just because these threads kind of cover those too.

The titles and text and starting on a phone swipe are all girly as hell, was that not the intention? The girl even kind of looks like Candace Flynn, and that's exactly how she was introduced in the first episode.

Go for the blonde one! She's the prettiest of the 3 anyways!

thanks! cuteness is my jam

>higher pitched voiced, like teenaged sounding.
that's me out.

Decided to actually put ideas to paper and start typing scripts
I don't have a name yet or anyone willing to read it but its about a hero dispatcher, like a 911 operator but for superheros, the hardest part beyond drawing it is deciding where and how far I really want to take it as a pseudo SoL

The scripts for my other webcomic is completely done and I'm thinking about scrapping it completely cause I'm still fresh to drawing

Multiple reasons and I think they’re plenty who do put in the work but a majority do not.

1) they never were dedicated in the first place, they chose to be art majors because they knew it would be easy to graduate and could party for 4 years

2) they do want to succeed but they don’t have the resources or teachers to really set them on the right path I’ve seen multiple articles where industry professionals cannot find quality realistic draftsmen/draftswomen out of college .

3) they want to succeed but don’t have the willpower to do it. Spending shit tons of hours on gesture drawing, anatomy studies etc isn’t fun, it’s work and when they aren’t in the mood or stop having fun they don’t power through

Elves on Nice!

what is a good panel limit per page? i have a page with about 12 panels so that i can set up and deliver a punch line for a joke

is a good standard 5-9?

>The titles and text and starting on a phone swipe are all girly as hell, was that not the intention?
Yeah, I was actually going for that. I thought the text looked to masculine for some reason (because I wrote it), so I tried to make it more girlish. One of the genies is supposed to be writing the text.
>The girl even kind of looks like Candace Flynn, and that's exactly how she was introduced in the first episode.
I don't remember a phone swipe in the first episode, but I guess it does look familiar to her.

i like this one because it helps explain some of the visual themes i used during the first half of the chapter

>3) they want to succeed but don’t have the willpower to do it. Spending shit tons of hours on gesture drawing, anatomy studies etc isn’t fun, it’s work and when they aren’t in the mood or stop having fun they don’t power through
How do you get willpower to do this?

depends how big and complicated they are

I posted some pages here before, but I finally have this whole thing done. It's just a 12 page short story. I feel like it'd be bm to dump all the pages here so here's the link. How does it read? I wrote it, my friend did the lettering, and I found someone to do the art for me.

I’m not a professional artist mind you I just do it for fun, but I did take a hobby and make it into a career with brewing that I’m successful with.

Theyre a lot of ways but what worked for me is reading Robert Anton Wilson’s Prometheus rising and stoic philosophy Seneca, Marcus arelius , etc. now the first has some goofy shit in it but it has a lot you can take from it. We have finate willpower/energy in a day and it is up to us how to use it

when are you gonna upload these to a site

what are you talking about? i upload them to THIS site

Is there a particular website to do anatomy studies?

unless you were the guy in these posts, these might be useful as this was asked last thread
otherwise, are you really telling me there's nothing in the OP links? I've never used them

I like quickposes.com, you can set a time interval and what kind of poses you want. So if you want dudes hanging dongs with Spears and axes they got that and if you want lady pin ups to work with they got that too and a bunch of stuff in between. I do 60-120 seconds for gesture drawing then no time limit for in depth stuff

Its just missing a final panel of them sitting in a prison cell.

Hi /hyw/

I've been lurking in these threads for a while but haven't actually posted anything even though I've been planning to start a webcomic for quite some time now. Still in designing/writing phase so will take some time until I actually get some finished pages out.

But I have a question for you.

The central theme of my comic is fighter jets and other flying things. Now, drawing these jets takes a quite while to draw and drawing the same aircraft from different angles adds lots of additional time so that the aircraft actually looks like the same one. For example in pic related, this small angle change actually took quite a while to make look "good" and at the same time similar to the one above.

Now my question is this.

I'd say I'm fairly good at 3D-modeling so I could basically model my aircrafts in 3D, take screenshots/renders from different angles and just trace those. Would that be looked down upon as being cheap/cheating in your eyes?

I could just draw the aircraft normal way but it would take long as fuck to draw and I could pump out updates faster if I could cut the middle man of trying to figure out what something with hard surface looks like from another angle.

The other question was just relating to the icons at bottom of pic related, which colored icon looks the best in your opinion?

Attached: ArsenalAngels_sketchesandlogos.jpg (1920x2450, 1.2M)

When it comes to machines, you're expected to trace from a 3d model. it's amazingly impressive that you can do without that, and I implore you to at least TRY using that 3d model as a guide but drawing by hand, if this is the result, because holy shit this is.. I'm getting a roboner here.
as for the icons, #1 looks the best but it's pretty similar to Chaos in the Tropic's logo, and even though that comic's dead now, I still feel like #2 is gonna be better. What's the logo represent? to me it looks like some feathers and some bug legs

Croquis cafe

Why not just draw a simpler jet design?

Right now it's the logo of the main protagonist's squadron: "Arsenal Angels". The feathers are correct. The "bug legs", I'm not actually sure what they're supposed to represent. The main idea is that the form the two A's from the squadron's name, I just wanted it to look a bit more organic and not just sterile straight lines but yeah they kinda like bug legs or bird's talons.

Because I'm a detail freak and I like to do wacky/over the top jet designs but there will also have some jets with more toned down features. It's just that the wacky ones are the ones the main characters use.

Attached: ArsenalAngels_coverdesign1_sketch.jpg (1080x1633, 492K)

Ooh, classic old-timey As without the crossbar. Nice. although 'arsenal angels' doesn't quite roll right off the tongue, it does have 'arse' in it. It's a good logo. I'm realllly looking forward to this, and I like the stylish anime furry style too. This is right up my alley.

The title has gone through many versions and will probably will continue to do so I take that into consideration and see if I come up with something better and more fitting.

But nice to hear if your're excited, story wise as of right now I'd say it's like taking bits of Evangelion, Ace Combat, Yukikaze and Ghost in The shell and throwing into a blender and voilà, you'll have the sludge that is my story.

Art wise my style has been pretty heavily influenced by the works of Shirow Masamune and Katsuhiro Otomo. Still on the fence whether I should do colored or black/white though. Even though I like colored works a lot and I guess it would be more popular, I do like the aspects of only being black and white as well.

But like I said, it's still in very early stages but I try to get it going this summer. Right now I'm pretty occupied with studies but I'll graduate soon (hopefully) and I have more time to focus on this in the near future.

I try to be more active in these threads from now on and give updates on the comic's status when ever I get something done.

I'm interested in seeing your plane designs. Can you write a basic tagline yet?

gotta be at least a little Starfox in there
I think this could work in black and white, maybe just the odd color page for a special thing

Tagline? Like a slogan of the story's ideals in one sentence?
Haven't thought of one yet but will probably make one once I finish writing the story/outline.

Unfortunately I haven't actually ever played any of the Starfox games but that goes for almost all Nintendo games, I should probably at some point because I feel like I've missed out on some very good stuff.

Recent page progress--Shadow and light tomorrow. My concern is that this page might seem to shift too dramatically and /or too quickly. What's more, i wonder if it is a jarring break from the normal look.

I tried floating text. I'm not quite sure if I like it, for the above reasons to start.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg59.png (940x1216, 787K)

just watch some of the trailers to get the feeling of it, or watch a let's play with no commentary in the background. It's apparently what FZD does

Interesting, alright I'll try that, any specific game that I should definitely check out or anything goes?

>probably should at some point
for nintendo, yeah
for star fox, there's really only been one good one. maybe two if you count two half-good ones.

Sketch for the next page. I've got a decision to make before I start this. The last time Tony used magic on someone, it rustled them up but didn't leave any sign of injury. Matt just shocked Lance in a way that is gonna leave cool scars for later. So I can go one of two ways:

1. Tony's magic blasts are barely stronger than a forceful gust of air and he can't actually hurt anyone yet

or

2. Redraw panel three in a way that shows real damage being done to Eli's mask (or face).

And right now both are plausible because Tony's had very few chances to use his powers. The reader has no assumptions about what his magic can do!

Attached: ch5pg28sketchs.png (1000x1294, 1.41M)

maybe they're currently emitting only blunt force, so all that results is bruises

Great character designs!

Tracing/photobashing is the future of art.

>copy 3d model/photo onto canvas
>create new layer and draw on top of it
>make a few changes accordingly
As long as the pixels don't line up, you can just claim it was "referenced" and no one can accuse you of tracing. This is a process that will speed up your art output by several magnitudes, as there are billions of photos available (boorus, pinterest, etc) and 3D modelers (designdoll, daz3r) you can easily find for free. As technology is becoming more prevalent, practices like this will become more acceptable. Do not listen to retarded crabs trying to make you waste 10 years of your life grinding only so you can end up like Proko.

Lol

Very nice. I would read this for the detailed aesthetics alone. Wonder how long you'd keep it up, colors will murder you.

That's a tribute to this classic comic called El Eternauta that has an alien race called Los Manos - The Hands-.

>I think the word you want there is 'pretended to be' or 'played at being' but that's archaic
unless that's the intention and this guy just sounds super creepy

I'm not an english native speaker, so my wording may sound weird here and there.
I actually had a hard time with that part, cause on one hand, I want my writing to be as accurate as possible between spanish and english. But on the other, maybe that outsider approach to the language can add some strange charm, which is the point of this comic.
So, if it sounds creepy, but nevertheless correct, then it's ok in my book

>it looks like she managed to circumvent the creepy guy's trap by just having pity on the poor thing and taking him willingly?

You'll find answers in the following parts. Hope you find this chapter's development interesting, user.

as someone who reads (and proofreads) several mexicomics, I really do legitimately enjoy the engrishy charm. In this case at the very least, it's clear what he means.

oh okay, I'll be patient then. Somehow from the context I assumed this was a one and done with this guy and it was over.

Dude, don’t let it die.

Thanks, I'll do try to aim as high as possible quality wise but yeah, right now I'm trying to find a good balance between speed and detail quality.

Regarding colors, I think I'll do what said, as in, the comic would mostly be in black and white but there would be some colored pages in there as well from time to time. Mostly when I think having color is critical to the story or just for bringing up the mood.

no option for "I've finished one or more webcomics and am taking a break before starting another"
If there's preliminary work for the next one, does that count as 'in production' ?

I guess I should have added something like that. go for "ongoing webcomic" since I'm mostly researching the idea of the "idea-fag" or the amount of people who sit on webcomic ideas.

Woah really? Dude I ink with a brush but sometimes do detail im micron. I didn’t know they made them that small.

This is my comic so farI started inking pretty recently and use a winsor newton series 7 size 000.

yeah fair enough. the inter-comic hiatus periods end up seeming very brief in retrospect. even though right now it feels like ages since I drew a comic, it's only a year and a half.

i'm getting some vibes from it i can't seem to place my finger on. by any chance you were inspired by ace combat?

>stylish anime furry style

a nice breath of fresh air imo

Yes, Ace Combat being my favorite game franchise and my yearning for more stuff like Ace Combat has been one of the primary inspirations and motives to make this comic. And like I said in other influences include Sentou Yousei Yukikaze, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Ghost in The Shell, I'd say there are some similarities to Macross as well but I'm not that informed with that franchise like I'm with these other ones.

Absolutely.

Anybody have any tips or even just ideas to share about using your art for passive income projects on the side? I mean stuff like print-to-order sites like Redbubble, places where you can just upload the art assets you already have and maybe once and a while you'll get a sale of a sticker/pin/whatever.

I know there was a guy a ways back (MONTHS ago) who shared some info about Line stickers. Stuff like that.

I've had extremely minor success with Neonmob, which I can explain if anyone wants to look into that. The art I made for my NM cards (pic related) is high res and can be slapped into print-to-order sites real easy, so I'm doing a little of that today.

I suppose comic publishing through Lulu would fall under this discussion too, anyone have experience there?

Does megatokyo still exists?

Attached: Intrigued.jpg (480x648, 35K)

yes?

neonmob looked super interesting the last time you posted it, the only thing holding me back is the soft requirement for art to be in portrait (or square) while most of mine's in landscape. I saw a few people kinda cheating by letterboxing, but for 'cards' it seems like you kinda want simpler images, as 'big' in the card as possible, so casual browsing makes it immediately clear what you're looking at.

Si, campeón.

Looks great man! Yeah I’d definitely recommend the 005, I imagine they would create a really nice contrast with the bold lines used in your pages

Nice facu.

Why though?

Attached: 1498025367701.jpg (373x347, 19K)

I have a Cotman size 0 and I can't get it to hold enough ink for much more than one stroke.

You could hide your letterbox in the form of a fancy frame, or even a fake trading card format.

The card set I'm (slowly) working on is in portrait and it actually is kind of a pain in the dick because I want some of the cards to literally be landscapes. I don't know why they don't let you do a 3:2 if you can do 2:3.

Have you guys ever had trouble pinning down a character's personality and appearance even though you have no trouble writing them?

It's usually the opposite for me

personality is easy, that's just writing
appearance/visual design is what kills me

For that Kaiju comic I'm working on, I'm having a hard time getting that down for a father character. I find it weird that I'm designing him last yet I made his kids first. I'm currently running through some bases for appearance to him with the artist, starting with Destroyah as a base then working off from there.

Don't feel the need, idle curiosity- odd combination of what looks professional and what doesn't. The panel with the hand and the statue posted especially

Attached: 1492314195766.jpg (826x550, 53K)

I should've been more clear.
I'm having trouble putting that one character's personality into words to describe it to other people but I can figure out how it would act on any situation I put it in without any trouble.

maybe you're just solving the characters situation by stuff you would do, not how the character would act.

Thanks for the kind words about the lighting and shadows, one of my only artistic abilities I’m okay with. Hoping tonally it’s not too overboard, since it’s a gross out action comedy story as much as it is sci-fi and horror related.

Been lurking for awhile and always enjoy your work quite a bit. Impressed with your growth in skill as well. Keep it up, know how much of a slog it can all be to be consistent with a quality comic.

I think you copied Vergil's hair from Dmc

ramble.
some 15 years or so ago during one of my birthdays, my cousin and her bf dropped by our house to wish me a happy birthday. for some reason mom was shilling around a book of my drawings that had a bunch of my, kinda old, comics in it. so theyre reading through it, laughing at the joke ones, laughing at the superhero parody i did. then they reach a certain point and i overhear him say 'oh. this must be where he discovered dbz' and cousin agrees with a disapproving tone.
that always bugged me. it wasnt until later i realised why, with how deep the anime influence was, and how 'cool shit' was a primary motivator for the comics rather than a deep and interesting story with real stakes connected to characters goals, not just 'yah i punch you die beam attack' bullshit.
when i have ideas, when im tempted to rework older ideas, i want to remember not to let flashy shit get in the way of the important questions i need to ask myself to make a good story worth reading.

thats good you figured this out
some never do!
enjoy what you can create now

i used to love dbz but can not even watch a minute of it now... but i will still honor its essence vaguely through ensuring WHEN the action does occur, to make it special. but the action is not the meat... its the sauce

What would you consider the most important thing when it comes to writing a story? I have an idea bouncing around in my head but I can't seem to flesh it out.

Thanks for saying so, that means a lot.

what stuff happens

Kinda asked two different questions.
>What would you consider the most important thing when it comes to writing a story?
Do up the first draft in as close to one sitting as you can, and then switch to proofing and improving after. But I'm pretty sure that's book-style writing advice and it assumes one is doing a long form story. think the question is too open ended.
>I have an idea bouncing around in my head but I can't seem to flesh it out
If you're paranoid about the possibility of the idea being stolen bounce it off someone you know in real life- they likely have better things to be doing and there's only one possible vector. Otherwise I love worldbuilding! Share, man

The Ending. Have some idea of where you want to get to, and how you're going to get there. Otherwise you'll go nowhere.

i have no overall ending planned for my comic, only the chapters have definitive endings

>only the chapters have definitive endings
Then that's your destination. Even if it's just to the end of the next chapter, just around the corner, or to the punchline, know where you're going.

What? Does ANYBODY like DmC? That game was total shit for what it did for Dante and Virgil.

I want to say people like the gameplay but that's it.

Maybe they fixed it up in the definitive edition for Dante, but i heard Virgil's DLC game play was still shit.

>my anatomy has been failing me even worse than usual
You might be still dealing with overwork. Don't stress over it too much right now, but when you get the time jump back into anatomy practice with good references and you'll be back on track in no time

If it's a any comfort, there's this saying from years ago about how your art skill plummets when you start a comic, so don't feel bad if your skills don't show up as well as you like.

guess it could be that. Lately I have been on a constant inner battle between the impulse of drawing something and my actual inspiration to do it. Weird stuff. I am unable to give myself a rest.

Ready to color. I'll probably redo the little figment on the bottom left. I need a better female mannequin face for it.

i just want you to know man, i love your faces. they are so sharp and expressive.
faces are my biggest struggle. i really envy you.

Are you talking about Questionable Content? He didn't get worse, he stopped caring. Only other one I can think of like that is Megatokyo (apparently?)- but he only looks worse because part of improving included cluttering panels with backgrounds

I'm on tenterhooks. What could Squeaks's name possibly be??

Im not saying his comic is perfect, but I think he is very talented in general.

I know I know, We all know it's Squeaks but it's how he got his name that's interesting

Cute fanart of my comic Space Pack, thought I'd share it here! It really captured Nismo's character haha. It was drawn by Amiable Apparition who posts their own webcomic, Last Living Souls, on Webtoons!

webtoons.com/en/challenge/last-living-souls/list?title_no=51579&page=1

I completely understand this feeling. Regardless of what's going on or how hard I've been working, I struggle to let myself rest. My best advice is to not think about it too much. I think we all go through periods of where our art seems to randomly dip and rise in quality.

Also it's fun to see doodles of your characters outside the comic.

Attached: Screen Shot 2019-04-09 at 8.52.34 PM.png (477x566, 188K)

Color mostly done. Page is very bright right now--shadow will go a long way in giving a much needed oomph.

That is very sweet of you to say. I agree. I owe it all to exaggeration. Really stretch and pull. At first you'll make some real abominations and everyone will look insane--but eventually, you learn the line between passion and lunacy in expression.

One day, my comic will be perfect. It's only a matter of time, as far as I'm concerned.

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg60.png (940x1216, 605K)

utterly adorable. Youll get some fanart from me soon enough, I just prefer to wait for the comic to be published (sometimes)

No, it's about how when you start a comic you flex art muscles you've probably never used before and that can cause your overall quality of art to drop, especially when comparing between a single illustration (or doodle) vs a page. Some of it comes down to generic strain as well.

(I'm not in the best place to explain it right now, so sorry in advance if this doesn't help.)

The best way to look at is how if all you do is draw whatever you want, then you're without limits. You can have your characters do weird poses, elaborate costumes, certain angles, whatever. No context needed. However, in a comic you suddenly have to think about what you want the poses and expression *to mean* along with how to fit them in a panel with dialogue to make everything readable (in both text and flow), along with doing it over and over again with the same characters causing the art to become more limited and methodical. A lot of artists, especially newbies, aren't used to drawing in that way causing their art to not be up to snuff for a while as they adjust to being more structured.
You also have to remember that artists who have never drawn a comic before are suddenly going from draw whatever they feel like, when they feel like it, to having 5-9 "drawings" (panels) a week if, and that's a big IF, they *only* do one page a week without redrawing panels. It only gets worse with more updates per week. To say it can be mentally and physically exhausting for a newbie would be a bit of an understatement.

Fortunately it all evens out after a while, assuming the artist wants to improve.

I'm glad someone else is aware of this

Agreed!! And seriously? Wow, I honestly really appreciate that, thank you so much!!

I never put a lot of thought into this matter, but you explained it very well! I felt this quite a lot when I started making comics.

does art skill plummet when you try other areas of art as well?

it's not skill plummeting, it's the results being crummier because you're suddenly putting things together in a new way.

that mouth in the 3rd panell gives me a TMNT vibe, as does the whole page

sorry to hear about your artist quiting on you. I kmow how that feels. used to be a writer for a video game project. after 6 months of work the programmers quit

Attached: 4.png (800x1040, 114K)

>not sure whats a reasonable update schedule
Anything that's consistent is good, so one or two updates a week works for a lot of people.
Build up a buffer and keep track on how much you can do a week and work the update schedule to reflect that. Ideally your work pace should be more than your update schedule, but 1:1 is fine if you have those buffer pages available.

i'm mostly concerned with how it'd look on webtoons or tapas. they don't really seem optimized for a page an update
i could update in "chapters" but that'd be much less inconsistent considering the time it takes

>Chapters
Yeah, I don't know anything about that.
I would think a consistent chapter a month or half-chapter every 2 weeks might work.
Some people here have suggested update with pages then combine pages into chapters at a later time. Would that be possible for you?

Haven't used them myself, so I'm not sure how those sites work.

>Some people here have suggested update with pages then combine pages into chapters at a later time. Would that be possible for you?
if you can actually do that, that sounds ideal

Nobody has posted anything in this thread without getting positive feedback. you're a liar.

that's dewd

I don't think so

I'll call this a tentative finish. I might change the over-hue to something more blueish, as Rork's wintry presence should change the sunny morning light a bit. Overall, I can't say I'm totally satisfied with how this page turned out, but it's a good first go at this fellow.

Overall, page might be too much of a color shift from the previous page. But the show must go on.

That is genuinely wonderful to hear! I'm getting closer to what it could be with every page, I know it.

I mentioned a while ago that the lack of urgency was dulling the energy of Flesh Kernel, but I was evidently far too impatient. I don't quite feel the true immediacy yet, but the genuinely menacing Greys and Wilt's sudden humbling are compelling. I'm officially intrigued by what's going to happen next.

shut up you wank

Nothing wrong with halving your work load if the end result is exactly the same. Don't push yourself for the sake of "working hard" if it's completely unnecessary. These digital tools exist for a reason.

what about halving your workload for 85% of the result? in my book, that's profit.

This back cover took a while to finish, but I wanted to take my time with it. I think it came out nicely.

Anywho, I also announced I'll be putting FaustFall on hiatus and refocusing my attention to my other series, Cardinal Junction. I'll be taking a 2-3 week break to focus on collaborative work and to set up commissions, a Patreon, and a Ko-fi account, and to generally take a break from making comics, lol. Otherwise, I'll be refining my script and drawing rough drafts for the next issue in Cardinal Junction. I'll hopefully update the series on April 21st or April 28th.

For anyone interested in my Cardinal Junction series, have some links:

>Hard work beats talent every moment that talent fails to work hard.
The fuck does this mean

I think it's a tortoise and hare thing
getting a head start is fantastic, but you still have to actually run if you want to finish
you'd think that would go without saying, and the people with talent would be happy to work knowing it's less work than it would have been otherwise,
but in practice, getting something for nothing makes us lazy and not willing to put more work in, since that means putting more in and getting less back than previously

Do you ever find yourself wanting to remake old chapters? It was only after I made Chapter 5 of my webcomic that I decided to get a Wacom tablet, and now my old traditional pages look like utter garbage.

Attached: artstyle comparisons.png (800x600, 384K)

old chapters will always look bad
if you start remaking your first stuff, guess what? now the MIDDLE of your comic looks bad. is that really what you want?

Nope, too lazy to actually. However, it IS an itching feeling that I will never really scratch.

just because you use digital doesn't mean you're a better artist

true

I hear you
I've often mused about coloring my black and white comics, and while that's unlikely since it would require being popular enough to get a little funding for the project to justify the time spent (or at least someone to care that I'd done it), I still have promised myself I wouldn't make any significant changes to the art. Little fixes, that's it. More legible text for sure, but nothing that utterly changes the original experience.
use your eyes for a second. that's obviously digital. If this artist just now got a tablet, that means the old pages were done with a mouse, and without a doubt everyone who goes from mouse to tablet gets better.

Nope. It's traditionally drawn on a sketchpad, which is then scanned with a printer. The graytoning was done with Photoshop.

Anyways, I'll advertise it in a few minutes

those look nothing like pencil or pen lines with a photoshop filter, I'm impressed.

Good God, yes, I do.
but I know I've gotta keep the story moving, so maybe I'll do it if I luck out and get a publishing deal
haha, i have hopes and dreams

is learning how to draw a pipe dream?

Just practice, and also research how to draw anatomy correctly. It will take a shit ton of years perhaps

Naw dude it's easy, you just get the curve of the stem and connect it to the bowl

What’s up with the creepy titty imp? Also? What order are we supposed to read this in?

yeah it is
you'll never be good enough for yourself and for others

I got the impression you're meant to revisit the main big panel as you go. Since it's kind of in the background, that works

omg fuck you asshole.

>my stuff that i never linked anywhere and was lost among hundreds of thousands of other things on the internet didnt get any attention
why does this happen i wonder?

You'll get it when you earn it. You gotta climb the mountain first to get your glory. Now get back on it. Just remember to always be aware of dunning kruger.

The bubbles were haphazard, so I fixed it.

The titty imp is Frosty, Rork's enigmatic cheerleading familiar/ice elemental/catalyst/mysterious companion.

Oh, that's much better.

Her hunchback is unnerving

why?!? she's full of love!

>too old to learn how to draw
>takes years to learn, so can't get a job in entertainment
>didn't start drawing when I was 12

Gavin: How did you get into drawing comics and how was it for you finding your style?

Howard: I came to this late. I was 31, and I thought webcomics in strip format looked like a fun way to tell a story. So I started teaching myself to draw, and I started creating the strip.

Howard Tayler - Schlock Mercenary.

But I guess if youre too old, youre too old... No point trying or anything, right?

>too old to learn how to draw
My grandfather is 80 and is learning to paint.
If he can pick up a brush, I don't see why you can't pick up a pencil.

>takes years to learn, so can't get a job in entertainment
You're making excuses so you can psych yourself out of trying or caring.
Not every person in entertainment is hired fresh out of college. The chance that you might be hired later in life shouldn't matter if you are actually passionate about something.
Besides, what's so important about a "job in entertainment"? What about it appeals to you so that you want it, but not bother trying? To me it sounds like you're in a make it or break it mentality.

>didn't start drawing when I was 12
So? Start now.

so many mushrooms... are the mices tiny in this world or are the mushrooms huge or is it kinda just whatever

so nice
I was surprised it wasn't just the suit yeah

The mushrooms are huge. Irene is about 130 cm tall (4'3")

Attached: mushroom forest2.jpg (633x900, 582K)

awesome.

oh that's part of her metal exterior! sorry if it wasn't too clear (she's a robot)

nothing wrong with a hunchbacked robot. that's just a fuel tank for a love machine.

really nice panel!

reminds me of Shiga's style but better

Stop with excuses and start something you big baby. You don't have to be a prodigy to do something great

This is why no one likes you, you're annoying as fuck and always act like you want attention

>Schlock Mercenary
What is this

Post the nyamo nudes already damnit

yeah and that isn't your fault at all for making him that way

This isn't true at all though.

Gonna pretend you're being serious for a second
Sure it is. Being a prodigy is just like hitting the double or nothing. You have a higher chance of great success but still a decent chance of not getting shit

Lmfao yeah, it's our fault he's a shitter who can't stop ripping other people's ideas off. Our bad, should've raised him differently, fed that nigga too many reeses puffs for breakfast.

didnt realize Yea Forums had the responsibility of being a daycare center now

It's the architect's responsibility to build a structure that withstands basic forces
but if you know building incompetence has taken place and you go up there with a fridge full of bowling balls just to see if you can break the floor, you're the asshole

>Beyond the Black Labyrinth's pages have all been replaced with just 2 all-text pages dated to a month ago
>I don't remember what the comic used to be
someone halp

This post brought to you by Coldfusion

you really wasting your time on such a boring ass topic?

I kind of feel the same way, I'm so well beyond wanting to talk or hear or think about any of that kind of thing anymore, but if anyone still feels like it, they might as well. I'm just glad they're on the right side for once.

You... you... DOUBLE NIGGER! HOW DARE YOU SAY THE N WORD!

Please stop defending Dewd badly, this sounds like false flagging

Attached: 1483930821173.jpg (481x491, 57K)

I'm just asking you to stop teaching the dog to shit on my floor because you think it's funny to mock it later. I have to smell that.

I agree with this guy I don't need any white knights defednin' me, I can defend my self.

What did you use for making Sarah go out ot focus? If your program has it, what you probably want to use in that situation is 'lens blur'

good dance pose, which is always good practice!

I don't have that, I only have a blur brush.

true! she's the most optimal waifu
:O I don't know them but I'd love to see their art can you link me some of their stuff?

Are you sure? No filters menu? That blur brush looks pretty shite, not gonna lie.
I think he took it all offline so he could sell books, lemme see
ah no, looks like he reneged. or forgot. or died on the way to France. shigabooks.com
REALLY deep interesting story. you're in for a ride. he's done other comics too, shorter and totally worth reading

Free Coldfusion

Well, I think i have a gausian filter and thats about it.

That would still be better, as long as you can adjust how far it blurs.

dunno what else to post, so here's a character from my webcomic

Attached: Peri Render.png (2969x4996, 1.71M)

Ah, worms. Keep on eye on her, you don't want her crayoning the carpet

tummy monsters are a hell of a thing

fixed an error with the right hand

Attached: Peri Perings Render.png (2996x4918, 1.7M)

Just a tip from someone who's drawn many a

redline it

I'm fishing for opinions. I'm torn on which of these page variations should be the segue into the final segment of this chapter. What do you fine folks think?

This one

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg61.png (940x1216, 547K)

Or this one

Attached: CI_Ch1_Pg61 alt.png (940x1216, 626K)

this might be more helpful. Ignore literally everything about this image other than the hands.
See how the thumb is fully opposed, more like when you hold a weapon (another time I sometimes accidentally make that thumb like you drew), rather than when you make a fist (The correct time for that right-angled thumb)

Attached: not even touching this.jpg (1107x1108, 144K)

Dialogue of this one but use the

first panel of this one

Dialogue fits the scene better, but I don't know if your second page's dialogue is more in-character.

i'm gonna do it bros. i'm gonna start my comic when my semester ends in a few weeks and work on it throughout the summer. doing model sheets for my mc at different times in his life right now

Anybody lurking?
I'm getting ready to post the next thread in a few minutes, but I won't be able to stick around. Not sure if I should be concerned for the new thread dying.
