Eltingville club is the greatest slice of life comic ever printed

I never got wtf this crap was.
An ad for a fake comic?

Attached: The-Unexamined-Life.jpg (920x600, 45K)

Son of Ultron is his scanbro name, I don't get the other bit.

Reference to Ben Grimm?

fixed

Ah yes I see he's a clever one
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Man..._This_Monster!

I wonder do any of the Empires post here??? Hmmm.

Even though he lost all his friends at the end, everything he said was 100% factually correct.

They hated him because he spoke the truth and was also kind of a dick, but truth > feels anyways

I bet he could had stayed friends with Josh if he had sold him the head of the Bobba Fet figure.

Are you storytiming or what? We can never have too much Eltingville

Part of why Bill is so monstrous is that there's a certain amount of truth to the insane vitriol he spews. He's marginally more intelligent and observational than his friends, but he uses that intelligence for evil. Everything he says is filtered through the lens of his ego, misanthropy, and delusions, but there are grains of truth to his points about faux-nerd culture. He's all the more uncanny for the ways in which we understand his rhetoric.

Of course, just because that's the case doesn't make automatically vindicate all of his rude, horrible behavior. He's still a loathsome scumbag who takes pleasure in mistreating others.

Unironically redpilled about the effect of girls joining in on male-dominated subcultures

Want me to storytime this?

The whole series or just this one issue?
If you just do one, I'd like to see the one where they set the shelfwarming action figures on fire.

Just this one issue

>If you just do one, I'd like to see the one where they set the shelfwarming action figures on fire

By your command!

Stop speaking like an autist

So is this where K.C. got the idea for Anime Club from?

yep

Attached: The Eltingville Club-081.jpg (2153x3056, 2.26M)

unironically based

Attached: The Eltingville Club-082.jpg (2153x3056, 2.31M)

>there are grains of truth to his points about faux-nerd culture
Not really. He and his irl counterparts are just elitist gate keepers. Eltingville is supposed to lampoon the worst of the worst aspects of supernerd culture. It’s sad if you unironically agree with him.

>Just high on comics, y'know?
>Huh. Yeah I remember that.
I miss my optimistic view of comics as well.

Maybe, Anime Club is more like a story of "friends" going through some tough times for their hobby's sake
Eltingville Club is more of a parody and a critique to the awful people you can encounter in the geek fandom

Have you ever considered that a gate needs keeping?

A Yea Forums post comes to mind. I used to have a screenshot of it, but lost it during a formatting incident. It went something like:
>Remember when comics used to be fun and entertain people?
>I sure as hell fucking don't.
Very few comics elicit the joy we all once felt at what we thought was an awesome comics. Whether because our tastes changed or because comics became shittier, or both, a majority of everything seems shit. The last good comic I read was a French one: Stern by the Maffres. Really good, if you can find a translation.

Legitimately the funniest page in the whole series.

Attached: The Eltingville Club-094.jpg (2153x3056, 2.46M)

Is Jerry the only good member of the Eltingville Club? I mean, obviously the most toxic one is Bill, but Pete and Josh have their own shitty behaviors as well. Jerry seems to stick around mostly due to a loyalty to the club and nostalgia for the fun they had as kids. After the breakup he's arguably the one to have the most stability in his life.

I wonder what those meds were. I always assumed they were barbiturates or powerful amphetamines, seeing as that and the sleep deprivation makes them become psychotic. It's like what happens to meth addicts who get spun and stay up for days and days at a night time.

>Is Jerry the only good member of the Eltingville Club?
Yes, sure he's just as obsessive as his peers but he doesnt go berserk at the drop of a pin like Bill and Josh

>suddenly a Spider-Man trapped under tons of machinery bit
10/10

I'll bet anything Jerry is Evan Dorkin's avatar in the comic, because Evan did say he came to a realization how dumb the fandom is during a con. People kept asking John Buscema questions about Avengers lore and continuity when he didn't know or care about it. He even stated as much outright in a very direct fashion, and added how he'd much rather discuss Conan because he liked that title. But then everyone just kept asking questions about the Avengers.

What an asshole

Attached: The Eltingville Club-097.jpg (2153x3056, 2.78M)

Attached: The Eltingville Club-098.jpg (2153x3056, 1.98M)

I’ve heard that bill and josh were supposed to be two counterparts to himself, and that he put a little element of himself into every member of the club. Same thing with NWCC.

I'll hopefully post a mega soon

Attached: The Eltingville Club-099.jpg (2153x3056, 1.23M)

Hey man, I never said I was endorsing the full scope of what Bill said. I just said there are a few points among his insane ranting that have validity. It's no different from how political extremists will occasionally make reasonable points. A broken clock and all that, you know what I mean?

This page always made me think that the behavior the Eltingville club members was something they'd got from their parents. I mean, trash parents raise trash kids after all.

This hits right in the feels

Yoink!

Attached: 1554599829422.jpg (677x848, 157K)

>those smiles
>that optimism
Poof! Gone! I imagine it all started with good-natured ribbing and classical one-upmanships with who can recite the most nerd trivia. But at some point it became more malicious and about dominance rather than competitiveness. Maybe it was adolescence, when they finally realized that it's all about making sure the other guy is beneath you, otherwise he'll be above you.
I mean, most people will see you thrown under the bus for a can of beans, but even then you can find someone who'll watch your back. But then, to have a person like that in your life, you need to be social.
What a fucking pit of despair, the Eltingville Club. Harry Harlow would be proud.

Attached: all-Harlows-Pit-of-Despair-copy.jpg (492x298, 103K)

It's interesting that Joe seems to believe Bill's story here. If Bill had just waited the fight out and not tried to burn the store down, Joe probably would have asked for the fully story, Bill could have lied that he wasn't at fault, and everything would've worked out just fine for him. Bill may be a cunning sociopath, but he's clearly not a high-functioning one because that seems like a pretty simple conclusion to reach.

Joe is unreasonable lard ass, bad as any of them. He wouldn't care about any explanation, he'd made up his mind and he would have banished all of them and probably pressed charges

Yeah, it clearly doesn't come from no where, especially in Bill and Josh's cases. We don't see much of their parents, but it doesn't seem like either of the boys have good home lives. Bill and his mom are constantly screaming at each other and it seems like Josh gets his horrible anxiety problems from his own mom.

that last image of them starting a club together and then fucking it up , hit me really bad.

There was no salvation for him or for anyone else, they doomed themselves before he started the fire.

Holly shit man.

Have you?

I read through some of this, its kind of insane to think their are people like that out there

Eltingville Club is like looking into a funhouse mirror, you can see yourself and laugh.
Rusty Brown is more like a ruined, but completely straight mirror. It looks just like you but it's horrifying.

>out there
Have you looked at this place?

And scott snyder even though i like him. He even admitted to being way too cocky when he wrote batman #1 and greg capullo was making fun of him and it just went right over his head

I've never really been able to relate to these kind of parodies because they always seemed to have far too active social lives.
I've never really had friends even at this level.
It might be worse not being able to relate.

These comics are obvious parodies not a serious examination of these issues.
There aren't really people like this.
Most nerds are far too shy to do outrageous behaviour like this.

youtube.com/watch?v=L4z3yvWEc6o&list=PLj5TmO4kroQH4XM8P3JavV0p7Gtnno1E2&index=9

No, Ellingtonville existed solely because Dorkin was BFFs with Dan Vado (big time indie comic guy who in the 90s was writing JLI) and Dorkin was pissed off that Vado was being attacked for killing off Ice Women In Refrigerator-stye.

Also, Dorkin was one of those "only indie comics are any good, super-hero comics are for faggots!" type elitists. So nerds (one of which was Gail Simone, who brought Ice back only after the backlash to Countdown to Infinite Crisis created such a shit show over DiDio's treatment of the JLI, that he finally caved and overruled the Vado-friendly editors who wanted Ice to stay dead) rightfully calling out Vado's treatment of Ice.

To be fair, Avengers > Conan

>and Dorkin was pissed off that Vado was being attacked for killing off Ice Women In Refrigerator-stye.
Vado didn't kill Ice though, Mark Waid did during his JLA run.

Vado basically wrote Judgement Day and Mark Waid/Gerald Jones basically were glorified scriptors, writing dialogue for plots forced upon them by Vado.

Waid has repeatedly stated that Vado refused to budge on sparing Ice. Waid pretty much left JLTF (the book he wrote, not JLA) after the storyline and has disowned the issue Ice died in, the same way he disowned First Sign (the Avengers X-Over that happened during his Cap run) as far being forced upon him by editorial.

>mfw reading about the pit of despair

Attached: 1523611151401.jpg (512x198, 27K)

The part about the guys stealing action figures is based on Dorkin himself in a way, if you've read that story where he stole a soda only to find it had ants in it, he ends it with mentioning that next time he'll talk about the time when he was a kid and shoplifted Star Wars figures.

IIRC he flat out admitted he ripped off Eltingville.

Bill is really a classic case of a mediocre person longing for power and respect. Josh is set up as the real asshole of the series early on, because he's quick to anger and portrayed as selfish, but it's of course Bill who is revealed as the big bad, starting when he uses his trick die on the others, down to when he dissolves the club because he got a job at the comic shop. Pete acts like a dick, but isn't really much of one outside his opinions. Jerry is just along for the ride mostly. Josh is mostly just dimwitted.

You have to remember that Bill is the only member of the group who didn't make anything out of himself. Jerry's a rising MtG player, Pete got to join one of his horror porn producers, and Josh actually managed to get a press pass the hard way. Bill started a business that was just an excuse to read other people's stuff.

Also remember that his rant against Jerry's girlfriend came after he got mad that the others might make him look stupid in front of her, which was after he was flustered that she was there, which was after he made a bunch of lewd comments about her as she walked up. If she had walked up to him and said he was cute, he'd be sucking her toes if she asked. His anger and his supposed truth, accurate as it may or may not be, is not a steadfast belief, but the lashing out of a guy who has mixed his unluckiness in life with a disproportionate amount of selfish, antagonistic, flat out assholian behavior.

And therein lies the warning not to be like Bill, a nerd and a virgin and unable to succeed past controlling three other losers, but also a thief and a misogynist and an asshole who dropped those three losers first chance he got.

Stop being wrong.

Does that say "Latter Days", or "Fatter Days"?

It's better than the half naked chicks he used to have at the end of his scans. Hated when I was reading comics on the train back as a high schooler and that would pop up.

>I'm Shutting this down!

or Slutt? Benis? All of them?

I can't bring myself to read this again.

fuck off kike

>I'll hopefully post a mega soon
Yeah, do it

I did

>There aren't really people like this.
My sides have left the fucken building.

That's pretty random.

I can somewhat relate to these guys (only with animation instead of comics)

Why?

Attached: The Eltingville Club-131.jpg (2153x3056, 2.31M)

There's no maybe about it, KC did say Eltingville was a big influence on Anime Club. You're partly right that those are the differences, but I'd say that they're comparatively less hostile than the Eltingville Club.

Does anyone ever wonder what happened to the Eltingville Club after this? I know that the image this portrays of the absolute hopelessness of their salvation is the perfect note to leave them on, but sometimes I'm curious.

Yea Forums?

>I remember that

That stung more than I expected

Probably back to their lives if nobody identified them as the cause of the riot. That's the thing, going to jail or something would be an actual life change, but as long as they can wallow, they will.

Josh makes me cringe so hard in this that I almost dislocate my shoulders.

>God doesn't hate you,Josh! WE hate you! God hates your parents!
>Banter over the course of comics turns from mostly light-hearted and casual with no real ill intent to vitriolic borderline hate speeches

This always depressed me the most about this series

Attached: 1542919319238.jpg (752x527, 55K)

But I *like* saying "bandes dessinées".

One certain character on this board of Yea Forums has forever ruined wonder bread for me that when I first read this story, I couldn't stop thinking of him

Man, Jerry deserved better

The worst part is knowing how real it is.

My friend group had two people like that. First got way too heavy in to the stormfront/alt right shit and we basically cut him out when his anger issues got to the point where he was openly threatening us over trivial shit, second is addicted to weed and has been working the same dead-end job since high school and has become borderline intolerable to be around.

A SPINNER-RACK!?!
I haven't seen one in thirty- oh, wait, false alarm, it's not made of vinyl-coated wire.

Isn't there a final issue where they go to Comic Con?

That's from that issue.

Thanks!

For how exaggerated some of it is, Eltingville is also really sadly accurate in portraying how friendships can fall apart.

fuck you for making me google that

>gate keepers
Hello tumblr, please keep your special snowflake rhetorics in your echo chamber, they don't belong anywhere else.
With that out of the way, lets get to the main point. Elitism is NOT a bad thing. It helps keeping the amount of retards and ADD riddled faggots that can't be assed to lurk first in check. If you want to see what happens when you don't actively tell retards to fuck off, then just look at pretty much any board here. You used to be able to have some decent discussions on Yea Forums, but it went down the shitter once the floodgates opened and there simply wasn't enough berating oldfags left to keep up with the ever increasing amount of newfags.

He just asked you about your autism, so clearly he has considered you having autism, autist.

its not women nor minorities, not even tumblr ruining your hobbies is shitty marketing
Take videogames for example, do you remember how obnoxious it used to be?
>name your newborn son skyrim for a free early copy
>bring a traffic ticket to gamestop for a discount on the new racing game of the moment
>see how much blood we can squeeze ouf oof this guy
and dont tell me there wherent tons of stupid gaymerrrrxxxxxx shitty games back then
Now we got the same shit with a different taste and its just as bad

is this the last issue?

>Also, Dorkin was one of those "only indie comics are any good, super-hero comics are for faggots!"
Holy shit are you delusional?

>Elitism is NOT a bad thing. It helps keeping the amount of retards and ADD riddled faggots that can't be assed to lurk first in check.
And when allowed to go to excess it just leads to gaggles of self-absorbed faggots who're more interested in proving how much smarter they are than everyone else over actually maintaining a healthy community.

>Hello tumblr, please keep your special snowflake rhetorics in your echo chamber, they don't belong anywhere else.

Any community that has vocal retards setting the standards is not a healthy community. Just look at tumblr.
The whole point of Lurk More, Faggot was to make sure retards understood they were not welcome while simultaneously giving desirables (ie: nonretarded newfags) a chance to join after familiarizing themselves with the rules, both written and nonwritten.

>boogeyman
Hardly. Nobody uses that phrase except tumblrinas and their circlejerking whiteknights.

>please keep the opinion that doesnt fit on Yea Forums out of Yea Forums
>please keep your special snowflake rhetorics in your echo chamber, they don't belong anywhere else
What the fuck is self-awareness.Yea Forums is a circlejerk too,an hivemind where every participant scream at the same time "we're not an hivemind, you NPC"

>The whole point of Lurk More, Faggot was to make sure retards understood they were not welcome while simultaneously giving desirables (ie: nonretarded newfags) a chance to join after familiarizing themselves with the rules, both written and nonwritten.

And look how well that's worked out for you.

>Nobody uses that phrase except tumblrinas and their circlejerking whiteknights.

It's a common phrase and the fact that you ascribe it solely to your boogeymen says more about you than anything else.

>I want proper disscusion but first everyone should think exactly like me

Was this a worthy successor to Eltingville?

Attached: The Anime Club.gif (750x901, 359K)

Gay suicide pact.

Josh and Pete return to their careers, Jerry resumes his happy life with his gf, and Bill goes back to scamming people and eventually either gets arrested or pulled into a back alley by one of his victims and that victim's cousins.

>it was adolescence
in the last issue we see that it basically was. Bill aside, the three of them grow up into functional adults who make their passions their careers. They're still weird creeps, but we see that without Bill, they manage to get along and they can even look back on what they did as kids at laugh about what lunatics they were.

>there aren't really people like this

>to bring yourself up you need to bring others down

Welcome to the real world, kid. Maybe not at your level yet, but when you start approaching the six-figure mark and need to be hard as tack to compete, yes, you'll consider it, and probably do it. You'll justify it to yourself, because internally, you think you're a good person. But you need to get ahead, so you do it anyway.

But like I said, this happens when you're approaching the top already and need that advantage over others. When you're mediocre, you can afford to not be ruthless.

kys discord tranny

I don't think he's ever going to get killed, but just keep being a little slime that will never accomplish anything

So you shut a friend out over politics, instead of talking to him like a bunch of adults; and the other, instead of extending a hand of help ("hey man, there's this awesome job opening near me, I can put in a good word") you're on your high horse looking down.

I hope you get cancer, and I mean that literally. You are the scummiest scum of the Earth, who's only friends with people while it's convenient for him.

It's more the effect of sleeper asshole getting into sub-culture who only reveal how much they will ruin shit for everyone once a girl enter the fray.

At worst you can see it as a two agents rectactives who are safe to have as long as they don't mix.

John quesada.

>Waid pretty much left JLTF (the book he wrote, not JLA) after the storyline
Waid's first two issues of JLTF WERE the Judgement Day ones. He only ended up writing around four more issues after that before Priest started co-plotting, then took over the book

That is clearly not what that user said. The friend had anger problems and was acting like an aggressive weirdo towards the rest of the group, so they stopped hanging out with him. Maybe that friend should have acted like an adult instead of being a prick, did you ever consider that you election tourist dipshit? I've had similar experiences with a couple guys I knew in college and they were also unstable weirdos who would make weird, accusatory barbs mid-conversation apropos of nothing.

THIS IS SUPER BULLSHIT 64

>And look how well that's worked out for you.
As I've been arguing the whole time, it worked pretty well. It was AFTER Lurk More, Faggot stopped being a thing that Yea Forums went to shit.

and it is well known that Dark Triad traits score high in career success.
So maybe Josh is kind of realistic but like I said most nerds are far too shy to do shit like this.

Yes, I just wish KCG made more of them before he went crazy

Gate keeping is not a bad thing.

It can be if you take it too far

That can be said for anything.

>once a girl enter the fray.
See it's still her fault

gamers rise up

Aye the men can do no wrong. It's not that they act like dogs in heat, they can't be faulted for that

As mentioned earlier, everyone probably went back to their lives and ComicCon became just another shitty memory.

However, I always interpreted this final page as an implication that Bill has wormed his way back into Josh and Pete's lives, and as such is going to start ruining them more and more. It wouldn't surprise me to see both Josh and Pete lose their jobs over the ComicCon incident, and Bill would be the first person to try and take advantage of them, likely offering them a "job" at his "business" (i.e. make them do all the work while he reaps the rewards).

I agree, but it's more than likely he'll run afoul of the wrong person and get the tar beat out of him for it.

Worst case scenario is that Jerry's girlfriend breaks up with him, or is badly affected by this incident, leading Jerry to go back to the Club. Josh and Pete get discovered as involved with this incident and also loses their jobs/gets banned. Even worst case scenario is all of that plus getting identified as part of the riot's cause.

Best scenario for Jerry is that the ending sticks, Jerry leaves the Club completely and is still on ok to good terms with his girlfriend.

Best case scenario for Josh and Pete is what said about them going back to their lives, and being able to pin the blame on Bill. But more likely it's what that poster also said about Bill worming his way back into Josh and Pete's lives.

This.

They killed Steranko didn't they?

I agree with most of this but to Bill's small credit he didn't like the girl from the start, he only begrudgingly said something about her after Pete and Josh wouldn't shut the fuck up about it. So, it was a pretty steadfast belief.

Attached: RCO113.jpg (1249x623, 339K)

Yeah but that was after the shock of finding out she was Jerry's girl and now finding out that she was staying i.e. invading the club. He was very into her until that, as the others were.

I'm not implying Bill doesn't want to get laid but if he only planned on making a pass at her if she passed by and wouldn't have wanted her in the meeting anyway then his original point still applies.

et tu, Mommy Faust?

>So you shut a friend out over politics
Yeah dude, imagine being so immature you end a friendship over something so trivial as them becoming a nazi. How embarassing! Truly we are living in George Orwell's 1984.

Attached: 1544974477190.jpg (1600x829, 321K)

how is your friend a nazi?

That's kind of funny because at my local comic shop, the only alt right nerd that shops there, used to be a lunatic left-wing Obama loving faggot (literal faggot; by the way).

He's now a gay Trump supporter, HATES Marvel, and goes on and on about how identity politics have ruined comics and how crap like gay Iceman and America Chavez "is written to give gay people a bad name".

The comic shop owner tolerates him because he spends $300 on toys and trades and floppies a week and is one of his regular "whale" customers who comes in like clockwork on New Comic Day.

I think you should stop and consider your own biases there. If he had said the guy "got way too heavy in to the tumblr/pronoun warrior shit," would you have batted an eye? Instead he said "stormfront/alt right shit" and you immediately sympathized so hard that you skimmed right over the part about "his anger issues got to the point where he was openly threatening us over trivial shit" and jumped to the unsupported conclusion that they were being unfair to the poor, maligned right-winger.

Replace any instance of "hobby/game" with "Yea Forums" and it pretty much describes what's happened to this site. Which is kinda scary considering how old that image is.

>order stuff every month from a catalog the size of a bantha's ass?
Partially true, thanks to Diamond/Previews sucking ass and taking months to fulfill a backorder while we all saw them pushing cheap Marvel/DC bullshit just to stay on their distribution list

I doubt she would do that. All that happened is that Jerry accidentally ran into an abusive former friend of his and said friend acted incredibly rude to them for no reason. It seems like they genuinely love each other, plus she's clearly sympathetic to his struggles with anxiety, so I imagine they'll move on with their lives and not let the hatred of a petty narcissistic loser like Bill get them down.

>So you shut a friend out over politics, instead of talking to him like a bunch of adults

No, I shut him out because he threatened to kill me because I invited my friends out to see Rogue One (I had a gift card that was expiring soon and there wasn't anything else on), and I couldn't give him his ticket back after I gave his to someone else after telling us he couldn't come because he had work.

A decade of friendship and he decided to end it over a fucking movie ticket from a franchise he openly hated.

It's the principle of it.

True, but the opposite has happened; there's no gate keeping at all because to have standards is now synonymous with oppression. It's not like gate keeping prevents people from actually buying the content that they like, it just means that certain groups of people don't care to hear their thoughts on it.

well then that begs the question, what is the right amount of gate keeping?

Well sure but on the far side you get people like Bill, who ultimately just a petty, manipulative asshole who enjoys being a petty, manipulative asshole and hiding it behind gatekeeping rhetoric to justify their behavior.

Raises the question, not begs.

whatever still, what is the right amount of gate keeping?

I really do adore the /r9k/ mentality where it’s ok for them to act like girls but girls acting like girls is some destructive force to their inner peace.

>Bill lost all his signed shit in the riot

Even if he is a colossal asshole, I do feel kind of bad for him. There are some shreds of decency in him apparent throughout the comic, even if they are few and far between, most notably how he actually felt bad enough to apologize to the group for a second after he blew up in the last issue. Of course he fucked it up by immediately going for the jugular when it seemed like they wouldn't relent, but still.

Attached: 1552843742252.jpg (1632x1673, 176K)

Would Bill let Jerry rejoin the club if his girlfriend broke up with him and it made him get gender dysphoria and cut his pecker off and change his name to Jeanie?

I've been an elitist about the shit I like since I didn't even knew enough about music or comics to be an elitist, and yet I can very easily help people to get into better bands or books instead of gloating about some piece of Green Lantern minutia whenever I want to show someone I'm better than them.

So what is healthy community? Full of newfags who don't do anything but watch those marvel movies and have no plans to even read comics.

One that doesn't sperg out over perceived 'fake nerds' and people who have the gall to admit they don't know much about comics but would like to learn?

If only they knew that the Sonic comics are the true high art of the medium.

That is why girls should know better to not get into community that is full of nerds.

I like to believe that this, Beavis and Butthead, Duckman and Malcolm in the Middle all share a common universe. Some twisted extremely dirty, mean and pissed off paralel universe where everyone is either extremely stupid or extremely intelligent, but NO ONE is nice or good except with a catch (illusion, dream, etc..)
I call it the Zappaverse

Attached: 1518482205094.gif (400x300, 1.99M)

Expect that those kinda people don't exist outside of very few. Normalfags have no desire to read any comics because they don't have time or some shit.

>Expect that those kinda people don't exist outside of very few
They do and the fact you're trying to deny it when there's people in this very thread both confirming it and affirming it as a good thing is kinda strange.

>Normalfags have no desire to read any comics because they don't have time or some shit.

You're literally doing it right here, too.

I wouldn't put Duckman in there. In that universe people were dicks, but they weren't sadistic about it. And even Duckman, lord emperor dickhole, was fairly likable. He cared about the people in his life (sans Fluffy and Uranus, but fuck those douchebags), loved his deceased wife, and always did right by his family and friends in the end.

How can the world of Duckman exist in an otherwise normal universe?

So like the Moontrap timeline, but instead of old sci fi films it's made up of '90s series about how everyone's a dickhead?

Malcolm in the Middle isn't 90s

>began airing in 2000

Huh, you're right.

lmao the kiddie pool coming back around

Pete would slip on a puddle of blood and cum he was cleaning up. Slamming his head on a cold concrete set. A cousin is the only person who went to his funeral and he was a devote Christian who made sure Jesus was fully represented at his funeral to avow for his sinful interest in horror.

Josh rised up in the comic world and then fell from grace when he earns a reputation for stealing products from each office (especially from other peoples offices). He'd write a book about his childhood adventures that would sell to no one.

Jerry stays a magic the gathering player forever and despite having a hot girlfriend, she would lose interest in him. He ends up realizing at age 54 that he is the oldest guy at a Magic the Gathering tournament and hang himself in his house.

Bill will be the most successful person to proclaim he is the most successful. He will be arrested when he punches a child for proclaiming that Scott Pilgrim is the best comic ever.

Have sex but unironically

Only Pete's fate sounds unrealistic. I see him doing work until he dies of a drug overdose on set. A day before that, he joined the RLM crew to review a shitty horror porno he directed once.

2000 is still the 90s, the 00s begin in 2001

A shame indeed. That was good stuff.

Bump. I always enjoy the misery Eltingville posts bring out. Specially when it comes from people trying to shit on Dorkin and "prove him wrong" while doing nothing but show how on point he was.

That's even *more* random.

"Begs" is a common usage for "raises". Common usage trumps autism.

He's wrong because he's a miserable, sexist, obnoxious, rude, socially retarded douchebag.

But he's absolutely right that some people are snakes who just want to invade a social circle in order to dominate it. They don't care about that hobby, they just want to be important.

Whoops, meant to reply to this guy

>eltingville club thread
Nice

It has a specific, defined technical meaning in formal logic, and you're fucking it up. It's a wording that dumbasses use when they want to sound smart, and fail at it.

I’ve seen this happen so many times in so many groups, and the interlopers (I guess that’s the best term?) have been evenly split between men and women. Women are the worst to deal with though, because even if you get everyone in the group on the same page that member X who happens to be female is some kind of sociopath who wants to run it into the ground for their own amusement, you’re basically powerless to do anything about it unless the group is already majority female. Douchebag guys aren’t really a problem, you can just tell them directly to fuck off with no repercussions.

Not to mention sycophants and idiots who think they'll get laid on both sides.

Kids and Twitter activists don't get that nerd "gatekeeping" is their way of compensating for being too socially maligned and retarded to effectively boot out narcissists.

Going through this thread and storytime I realized I'm relativly far from rock bottom. Pretty good feeling.

I believe I see your problem. How long have you been [a bundle of sticks]?

Hah, fair enough. Ok, let me rephrase my earlier reply to account for where we are:

>he thinks other people being wrong makes him less wrong
t. brainlet

>some people are snakes who just want to invade a social circle in order to dominate it. They don't care about that hobby, they just want to be important.
But that's Bill. He might have cared at some point, but he obviously doesn't anymore. It's all about him being important.

What I gotta know is, what does Dorkin think of that? Because I get the impression that Dorkin thinks Bill is completely in the wrong.

Dorkin would probably just write off anybody's support of Bill's view (no matter how minor) as the ravings of an inbred incel who is Bill Dickey IRL.

He's goddamn right

If so, he's right. It's like this user says: >that's Bill. He might have cared at some point, but he obviously doesn't anymore. It's all about him being important.

Bill actually liked being part of the club though. If anything, he was the guy that liked the club the most (at least on par with Jerry), which is ironic on a grand scale considering how his ego trip turned out for them, but he's the only guy in the epilogue besides Jerry that actually seems to care at least a little about it. There's also the fact that they were probably the only three friends he ever had. Bill's a colossal piece of shit, but probably the only positive quality he had by the end besides some degree of self-awareness was a marginal amount of respect for his club members.

Attached: RCO112.jpg (401x458, 105K)

This is Didio and Lee. If you don't like their edgy shit then fuck you

And rightfully so.

You're not understanding. He didn't like any of the guys, and he didn't even enjoy comics and movies anymore. All that was long gone. The only reason why he "liked" the club is because it's the only place where he felt important and he could vent his resentment towards the world.

Those two things don't have to be one or the other, although your reason is definitely the stronger motivator out of the two.

Looks like he has the runs...

Ban the grapes from ever coming near my mouth and no amount of winning or begging will ever change my mind

>If you don't like their edgy shit then fuck you
What?

Dan DiDio and Jim Lee ushered in the New 52 era which was edgier than the previous DC incarnation. Then came Geoff Johns with Rebirth to make things fun and hopeful again. When Geoff Johns left to fix Zack Snyder's mistakes, DiDio and Lee went back to their same old stupid ideas. Case in point: Heroes in Crisis.

Rebirth was only ever a smokescreen to trick you in to buying DC Comics again and the fact that you buy in to this messiah complex with Geoff Johns only proves you fell for it hook, line and sinker.

Johnsfags are the so fucking delusional.

We had a few good books for a whole four months.

We had like two good books and one passable book at most, user.

Dorkin's made it very clear through his other works that he despises entitled, self-important jackasses and slimy, slithering jerks who try to place themselves above others in equal measure.

Bill works as a character because there's a sliver of truth in there, enough for a person to convince themselves of it.

That's a few. It was still an upswing from where things were.

>Dorkin's made it very clear through his other works that he despises entitled, self-important jackasses and slimy, slithering jerks who try to place themselves above others in equal measure.

Bill's both of those.

Exactly.
He hates Bill, because Bill is partially a reflection of who he used to be.

>mfw I don't even like Geoff Johns or his writing, I just think he's better at the job than DiDio or Lee

Attached: 1361965077884.gif (460x426, 655K)

Yeah, I consider him competent, but he wouldn't even make it into my top fifteen writers. I feel like the "messiah complex" poster is just projecting his narrative onto people.

At this point, the bar is set so low that merely being competent makes you seem like Alan fucking Moore.

Why would anyone chose to read this garbage ?

Why is it garbage?

>that one sadistic femanon that wanted to beat up bill and suck his dick

Attached: 1548734666768.jpg (1360x1050, 156K)

Hot.

Dorkin is an honorary member of the Eltinville club.

He's equally as much of a judgmental dick than any of his creations, he just thinks he's justified because he hangs with the "right" crew.

>he just thinks he's justified because he hangs with the "right" crew
Elaborate, tripfag. Just because he makes fun of capeshit doesn’t mean he considers himself a higher lifeform.

Because who the fuck else would put up with him?

Claiming Dorkin just disses big two capeshit and mainstream attitudes is a big understatement. Dude's a smug dick all around.

We are talking about a dude who goes to a rap concert when complains about the ongoers and accuses them of being obsessed posers who will never be black. He made his entire career dissing social circles he doesn't like while happily committing his own. He really has no right to talk about people being vitriolic.

>femanon
Sure

And then we could say the same about you. What he says on the Eltingville comics is right, and he has admitted that he has been like that too, and you can tell it from the writing that he's not simply judging from the outside. The fact that you can't handle any sort of self criticism doesn't mean he's wrong.

Lemme quote one of the posts here

>But he's absolutely right that some people are snakes who just want to invade a social circle in order to dominate it.
Pretty much Dorkin irl. His entire zine period was spent going to indie cliques and shit talking them as if his own clique was better. less moral lessons on how to not be a dick and more not having the balls to tell it to their faces.

>and he has admitted that he has been like that too
10 years after it stopped mattering? Too little, too late.

>The fact that you can't handle any sort of self criticism doesn't mean he's wrong.
And how would you even know I talk about comics irl?

No, that's just fucking stupid, it doesn't do any good to just ignore problems because you can't solve them yourself.

What does Eltingville say about nerd culture?

This is Yea Forums

You sound too hung up on Dorkin. Why don't you try to read the actual comic? I don't care how he is in real life, I don't know him. I've read Eltingville and it's 100% on point.

>it doesn't do any good to just ignore problems because you can't solve them yourself.

Then solve the problem, don't deny it ever existed and that you ever wanted it in the first place to save face.

I already did Eltingville, the Dork version was ok it's his other works that piss me off. Criticize your own, but for fuck's sake, try to be the example you talk about.

>Salty tripfag appropriates my quote on what Dorkin is keenly aware of in order to insult his character.
Please go fuck yourself. It's bad enough that you desperately crave validation on an anonymous image board, but your petty stabs at a guy you don't even know are disgusting.

Doesn't this mean Bill's friends corrupted him first?

From my experience, these things are kind of a vicious circle.

>The pilot was so good too.
Not that great, the trivia bit went for too long and there was some other issues here and there. It was ok for a pilot though, that kinda thing usually gets sorted out when you get more writers to develop the show and such. It had a lot of potential but I guess it wasn't the pointless edgy thing that Adult Swim favored back then.

The rage this comic fuels is always a treat.

Someone should make a Rusty Brown thread next to complete the circle of despair.

Oof

So which one do you relate to the most? (be honest, don't just say Jerry because he was the most normal of the bunch)

>yelled firefly in a crowded convention centre
Always cracks me up

I was more of a Gamer than anything else so not any of them desu.

Honestly? Somewhere between Josh and Bill in both interests and attitudes. I’m not quite enough of a sperg to say the kind of things they would publicly, but it doesn’t stop me thinking them. Or saying them on Yea Forums.

Thank fuck I haven’t got to the stage of seeing myself in Rusty Brown though, if I ever get to that point I really will kill myself.

A truth that's told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent

None of them desu. Never liked fantasy, sci fi or capeshit. I was always a nut about videogames and cartoons. The only comics I cared about were Tintin, Asterix and the Scrooge ones.

There's a reason public restrooms are gendered.

Think about it.

>remember when

Truly the lowest form of conversation.

To be honest, Jerry was an idiot for bringing his girlfriend to these guys. If i would ever have girlfriend i would never bring her to places where my friends are hanging out.

How true

Weird how they never made an issue of the club reacting to "nerd" shows like the Big Bang Theory, I think it would be an interesting premise

What is so bad about it that would make someone despair?

Bill, but I like horror instead.
100% Bill.
The movie character I most identify with is Rob Corddry from Hot Tub Time Machine.

Seeing your reflection sometimes cause that. Hell, the ending is even too positive for them: in the Real World, as we both know, it won't be Jerry to be the "well-adjusted" one with a hot gf (wish fulfillment at its finest!) but some of the other assholes bringing some low-esteem girl they abuse at will. It can always... get worse.

I'm tired of seeing this, please, I beg you stop it

Pete

You're arguing with multiple people. Ultimately there's nothing wrong with sour grapes because something you can't get doesn't have to be respected, because it will never benefit you. There's no value to just quietly accepting that you'll never obtain what you want.

I love Josh's crazy faces.

Attached: 1554804979757 (2).jpg (429x894, 160K)

He was an idiot for even coming up with the reunion idea, but that doesn't excuse any of the other guys.

I feel like you're missing that it's been 10 years.
He probably forgot a lot or deluded himself into thinking that the others changed like he did.
He probably thought he just "grew up" and that everybody else did too.

Those reunions are always a bad idea, and the fact that he had to be coy to get Bill to meet with the other guys tells you that he kinda saw it coming. And even after it was obvious everyone was still the same, he kept trying to make it happen. Again, it doesn't excuse any of the other guys, but he's a participant and an enabler as well. He's obviously the one you should be sympathethic for but I think Dorkin tries to show that he's part of the problem as well.

considering how they are they could fill a graphic novel with the rant alone

I feel like everything in this panel, coupled with the "not exactly", is a reference to something, but I can't remember to what.

Attached: 1554804979757.jpg (427x896, 210K)

Bill and Jerry. I’m a passionate and slightly impulsive cape comics boy who spent time in middle school with the wrong crowd who mostly didn’t like me. I never tried to argue with them, because I had nowhere else to go. By sophomore year, I moved away from all but 1 person (cause he actually liked me) and started making better friends in sports. I even grew taller and gained muscle.
But no gf

On the one hand he's not wrong, on the other hand that's why I just go straight to Amazon and cut out the middleman when I want something that just comes in a bigass trade.

Holy shit, I just said it as a joke, but that works too well. Thanks for all the hard 47 seconds of work, user!

Based fuck Joss Whedon guy

This is surprisingly well made. How the fuck did it not get greenlit?

I relate to the bald guy in the middle on so many levels.

>How the fuck did it not get greenlit?
Too expensive to produce for AS standards, mind you this was during the time most of their shows had the budget of a pack of gum like ATHF

So you're the "I hate superhero comics" spinoff comic.

>Too expensive to produce
You mean it required actual animation. Looking back on it, the show could've had the animation of Spy Groove and still be good. Most of the jokes rely on dialogue anyway.

Sci-Fi used to show reruns of all kinds of great old SF/Fantasy tv shows. That was before they rebranded as "Syfy" which sounds like somebody's pet name for a recurring syphilis infection.
The closest thing nowadays would be Comet.

They really did nothing wrong in this one. "Fellow kids" dumbasses deserve to get shit on if they can't handle being corrected.

>the Goblins
Is that supposed to be "Goblin?" or is there actually another band with Goblin in the name that does soundtracks?

poor jerry man
you buy your friends some overpriced convention food and they can't even be arsed to show some interest in your hobby

I like that they grill him on his comic trivia and not the fact that all the shit is "signed"

It is. The only appropriate response is to contact Evan Dorkin and inform him of his mistake and correct him immediately.

Aren't they more dangerous now? They're muscle-bound nerds, with insider know-who of the "normies".

>satan trips

Based, I always liked this monologue. My favorite aspect of Bill is how he's actually a pretty good villain when he puts his mind to it, even if it barely lasts.

Attached: 1551754613285.jpg (652x786, 96K)

I wish Bill actually died by getting stomped by hordes of nerds, it would've been poetric justice or some shit

It's kind of funny but I never got this.
I never got deep into any of this and I still turned out a hopeless loser.

>people think bill has a point

Bill ends up the biggest loser of the group, a bitter hateful asshole who will never get laid and never be happy. He lives with his mom and goes on sexist rants all the time. In fact the rant in your image is so bad, that Pete, the guy who thinks of women as "little more than receptacles" is disgusted by it. You're supposed to hate Bill and despise him.

In what world do you think Dorkin meant for you to agree with him. The whole last issue is basically calling out people who think women only cosplay for attention or some bullshit and aren't real fans.

I always liked how Jerry turns into a good dude. He's a huge nerd, but he got away from his toxic friends, cleaned himself up and now has the best of both worlds. He has fun and a career from his hobby, a cute girlfriend.

The last pages of the comic with everyone sitting in the ecto-1 and Jerry just going "fuck this" and leaves is a perfect way of ending the run.

Yese

>Guys in the last panel actually look like the Eltingville kids.

Is it just a reference or did Dorkin actually draw this?

>Missing the point.
Everything he's saying is reprehensible, but it all starts from an understandable, basic human emotion. That's what makes a good villain.

Interesting! I still need to watch the Italian cut of Dawn of the Dead sometime.

The poster I was quoting said that Bill had a point about faux-nerd culture, but everything in the book points to Dorkin saying that the guys are completely full of shit on the whole fake geek girl thing.

Dorkin I think wrote it

Grains of truth, user. Grains.
Like, on the most basic level, yes, there are people who exist just to push themselves up socially instead of enjoy a hobby. This much is correct. Because, as said earlier in the thread, Bill IS that person.

It has Happy!
Also it comes with the travel channel in my country

Damn, yeah.

Someone being a piece of shit doesn't make them unable to be right on anything

My screenshot is from the US cut btw. Never watched the Italian cut either because I love that movie so much that whenever I think about doing that, I just end up watching the theatrical cut again.
