Oh god no
MURDERER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCKING MURDERER!!!!!!
>Who hired you?
>Nobody....
Bullshit
WHY IS NO ONE ADDRESSING THE FACT SHE JUST KILLED AN INNOCENT MAN!!?!?!?!?
=(
Because this is QUIRKY! and WACKY! and HIPSTERISH!
Hey, Cliffs back!
I feel like they are torturing Cliff
MILK
WARS
I really hope this is not the reason.
oh fuck yeah. I know this is sacrilege, I think I might enjoy this run better than Morrison's.
So I've got a question. An honest, earnest question. Is this whole comic series actually going somewhere or is all of this just trying to be weird for the sake of being interesting and original? I say this as not to be an asshole, but taking a quick look at this DOOM PATROL and YPUNG ANINALS run all of this seems non-sensical with no clear objective or destination in mind. Because well the art and the premise certainly seems interesting and is charming, the plot appears to be lacking.
It all comes together in the end, even the niles pages lead up to something
Well thank you, I'll continue checking this out.
You bring up thoughts I have about a lot of series. I'm all for weird. But the problem is that most normies immediately associate weird with genius when its more often than not just pretentious pseudo intellectual drivel.
i dont get whats going on. who is this blonde chick?
Okay, I was hesitant towards this series at first. Kinda starting to think it was too far stuck up in its own ass for me to really get into, but now I'm invested.
you're like 3 pages from finding out
I thought he was a brick
I wonder what a conversation between mr. nobody and loma shade would be like
Gross
Lookin forward to seeing Danny on tomorrow’s doom patrol
A cute murderer
One that goes absolutely nowhere fast and both parties realize it. I'm not sure if Nobody would find her his type of fun.
>Cliff-Steele, attorney-at-law!
I can hear Fraser in my head. I love it.
Doom Patrol has seriously become my top contender for live action cape show. I loved Legion and Daredevil S01, but Doom Patrol is scratching an itch the other shows just couldn't scratch. The second season one if done I'm going to set up my apartment to be as comfortable as possible, drop like five hits of acid, and then marathon that season from start to finish.
Yeah, let's try this some other time. Larry needs to eat some pizza and relax.
Is that the painting that ate Paris?
I think mr. nobody wants to make life more interesting (well, buzzard is more like it) for everyone. Meanwhile, Loma comes from ADD-the species, and has trouble sticking around for a long time in one place, BUT already sees earth as an interesting place.
I think they’d get along to a point and have some fun but would either get bored of each other eventually or get distracted by two different things and depart.
Apparently this image contained an embedded file. I wonder if this is true.
Meant bizarre, not buzzard.
Yes. And the candlemaker too.
I think getting bored would occur first but that's just me.
Pretty cool that this also ended up being a sequel to Giffen's DP.
Like Danny the brick
I really want to like this, but something seems off. I feel like this is retreading too much on Flex Mentallo, but considering all that shit is related I guess I should just kind of expect it. It feels...obvious? NOt trying to be a douche, but I guess I've just read so many comics it just fit the bill.
Good move Casey. Don't trust talking buildings that happen to be your father. Getting some real EGO vibes here.
>Hand Turkey
HA!
>I feel like this is retreading too much on Flex Mentallo
the whole run is just Way writing Morrison fanfiction. It's good fanfiction, but he definitely doesn't shy away from lifting elements.
I read young animal’s doom patrol before morrison’s. I didn’t see it at first, but now that I have read grant’s run yeah it’s pretty samey but I still really like casey’s character, even though it’s probably because I read about her first.
Bumpan
Meta is overdone recently. It’s been so covered that no one will do something new
What a bad dad.
Wait, how’d the chief robot get there?
Also, cat fucking soon
At least Larry got a win.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm confident Danny will just start pumping out some Flex Mentallo comics and he'll be right as rain.
What?
Gotta love Cliff. Even in Way's series, he's easily one of the better parts.
Thank fucking Christ! We almost lost you Flex and we know we can't let that happen. The world will be a darker and significantly less sexy place without you in it.
That’s some good shit right there.
Uh...Jane? Is that a nuke?
none of these alt covers are very good, but this one is the worst
I'm sorry, but did Jane just gather up 63 other mentally ill people so she could bond them all into her true self or are these supposed to be actual fragments that she managed to locate? Because the implications of these options are not the same at all.
This is a really really bad instances of "show don't tell". This entire issue should have been expanded to include at least one more additional issue. This is poor.
She roped up 63 real people into her cult.
That's what I thought. Fucking twisted. Glad they did allude to it in the first issue.
Knew this chick was a straight up cunt. Especially considering she literally murdered an innocent bystander in the name of randomness upon her first appearance. Bitch needs to get flattened by Danny.
We all fucking called it back when this was first being published.
Well what is she going to do about it? She literally just watched a man explode into cake.
Would you want to be turned into cupcakes next?
My sense of justice says fuck her.
Thanks for storytiming, my ex still has my copy of this and refuses to give it back.
Fuck that bitch. I know it's not the same, but make sure to check out the link I posted above tomorrow and Doom Patrol will be there.
And that is it for me! I do hope that everyone enjoyed! Will pick up with the second volume of Doom Patrol tomorrow and then Milk Wars on Saturday. Which will be followed by Eternity Girl on Sunday, Shade, The Changing Woman on Monday, Mother Panic AD on Tuesday, and Cave Carson's Interstellar Eye on Wednesday and that will be it.
thanks
My man. Glad you were here!
thanks OP, looking forward to tomorrow
I hate myself for not getting the first issue with the sticker
Ha ha, are you in for a trip when you get to that part.
ugh this is all so...twee.
Casey's a fucking psycho I guess.
So far this whole thing just feels like the worst parts of Morrison's run, without the actual humanity and pathos of the best parts. Everything's all shiny and merry and they're using weird dream logic but not effectively.
Fuck man I know Way can do better, Umbrella Academy was serviceable. What's going on?
So he still has a bit of Rebis then?
This is that one personality that Niles talks to Nobody and tells him to visit in the show right?
The self insert in this young adult novel they've turned the doom patrol into.
Nobody, you have to remember, is a bad dude. He was Morrison's replacement for the Brain, after all. I think ultimately he would try to destroy or corrupt Loma like he did the original Brotherhood of Dada, trying to get her to destroy herself with a smile and a thank you and then move on to the next pile of saps with powers.
My issue is that Morrison's meta shit all had a foundation. There were regular characters to bounce off of, there was pain and pathos and the weird shit highlighted it. There was a point where Robotman was just numb from his life and that was fucking cool.
This has a lot of weird but, like, I dunno what the fuck it's saying. Morrison's DP grabbed me in three pages, and this has taken three issues to make me feel nothing, because everyone's crazy at once.
This page is great if you read robotman as Brendan Fraiser's voice
Ok, this issue was way better. Especially the bit with the EMT and his kid.
yeah.
>Danny Comics
>DC
I don't know how I ever missed that.
It's a simple trick but the comic inside of a comic thing always gets me.
Forget it Prof, it's Dada.
She's got similar powers to Agent "!" I suppose.
He was suffering pretty badly the two other times his brain was kept separate from his body.
It's charming, but I can't rank this over Drake's original run.
>Premiani
>Drake
Droll.
I wouldn’t agree completely with that. I think it’s a good run because it builds excellently on Morrison’s run. Way really ‘gets’ what Morrison was doing, or at least he is good at imitating the style. He makes the series his own without outright rewriting the characters and doesn’t shy away from adding his own ideas, which I consider amiable.
Googled Chris Byczkiewicz, and all I found was Obit entries. I guess he was a guy who Way knew?
Pick your favorite band.
It's all about Legion of OMAC
Robotman remains the best character.
It could be this is one of Jane's selves that broke off in response to something horrifying happening to the main body and is trying to make a new Crazy Jane out of her new friends here.
Larry is having none of this married couple bullshit.
Yeah but it all comes from a place of love.
I didn't mean it in a bad way. He's obviously very passionate about DP.
Challenging the unknown sounds like it would be Tool. I might like that.
>Janestown
Fuck me, I actually chuckled.
>min 8
>blacked on sceen
I mean she didn't lie
This is really cribbing heavily from Morrison's run (Brain + Mallah kissing in this case) isn't it?
She seems remarkably composed for having just witnessed a murder.
Jesus Christ, Casey's a sociopath.
The whole run is. This issue is the worst offender, outright lifting the Cliff going inside Jane's head plot but instead of it being an emotional and strong issue, it's flat and reads like parody.
That's horseshit.
Robotman's isekai story begins.
Does the scar mean that she's Harry Potter?
>commentary to a minimum initially for time.
This is totally fine and can add to everyone's enjoyment, don't worry about it.
Just keep doing what you've been doing!
Really it's the guy's own fault for being a dick.
I'm sorry no one invites you out for burrito and beers, user. But don't take it out on Way.
To be fair, turning someone into cake is probably too weird of a murder to comprehend.
Okay, is the fact that the Negative Spirit's name is "Geek" backward significant?
I'm interested in this series and I don't know shit about the characters. Where do I start?
Just read Morrison' run on Doom Patrol.
Plus this is taking place in the grubby under-mind of the DC universe.
Smashing Pumpkins. Not as much as it used to but still them.
Also i love that this thread is still going! Didn't expect to see it survive to my lunch break.
We are living in a time where Doom Patrol is getting the recognition it deserves.
Thanks OP, really enjoying the show too
If you don't mind Silver age cheesiness, OG run is one of the best from that era, then I would say, you can read anything that isn't Bryne or the run before Morrison (which is just boring)
Who was Danny the Brick used to murder and who was D? Was this story in another comic?
I have really been enjoying these.
This made me go back and re-read Morrison DP and I started just before his run when in the letters page before the switch Editorial wrote "Were clearing the decks starting next issue with a new writer and artist to correct the mistakes that made this titles launch so tumultuous" and it was just so shocking. I mean imagine saying something like that in 2019. People would go into mental asylums from hurt fees.
NEW THREAD!!!
