The Dreaming #8 Storytime

This issue is nearly perfect and the only book I would call a 10/10 in a long long time. So came see why you should never fall in love with an Endless.

thanks

I love Daniel, but he's the biggest of fuckups.

this

>wrong cover used in the "next time" box

wow, I guess no one really cares about Sandman anymore here.

>caring about vertigo
>in a year past 2007

they made a really big deal of having Gaiman hand pick everyone. It seemed to be a big deal. But it seems like DC just can't hype anything up past issue 1 except Batman and Bendis

>So came see why you should never fall in love with an Endless.
Wasn't that addressed in the original run?

yes, but not with Daniel

Whatever his other faults Daniel has patrician taste

It reslly is sad but true, and I say this as someone who was blown away by this issue. The execution of the bookd has ranged from mediocre to botched to what the fuck are you doing. My favorite by far up until now was the new Lucifer run, and throughout it I was inwardly groaning at how far it seemed to break continuity. As if the writers feel so insecure about living up to Carey’s run, they think negating it’s ending will somehow make for a better story.

Don’t get me wrong, by far it came the closest to fitting the old Vertigo tone narratively, artistically and consistently. Right up until when I found this today, which is frankly an amazing achievement given how let down I was by the “Mervyn is a fuckup, pls root for monstergirl” arc.

House of Whispers didn't make any sense and fucked around with the storytelling too much more me, I was never invested in the characters in it. Books of Magic is really damn slow and too decompressed but I still like it cause I'm a big fan of Tim as a character and I like his mopey, always dragging his boots type character. Until this arc I would say Lucifer is the stand out story, the lettering and the art has been on point in telling so many different stories at once. So yeah I agree Lucifer was the best of the run. Until this, this hit like a fucking truck. The first 6 issues were good but too chaotic and they didn't flow that well. This flows.

It was kind of addressed, but with original flavor Dream. I'm not sure it's different, like saying Dickbats is different than Bruce in any significant way when both wear the cowl.

>the endless virgin
>frequently forgotten in favor of his more Neil Gaimanlike predecessor
>has most of his powers, still struggling to identify his assailent after 8 issues
>gets bitchslapped by the sibling he hate’s mostly mortal niece but still must depend on her to even begin fixing his fuckups
>leeaves behind his trusted librarian with a “s-sorry” unable to explain his personal problems
>literally just wants to know what love feels like based on a childhood crush

>The Chad Lightbringer
>iconic pride, defiance and twisted honor enshrined in both DC and elsewhere in culture
>is a powerless, beaten up hobo-vanquishes his tormentor and escapes his prison in 6 issues
>alienated his son, is still called on for solace and generously provides what little he deigns to
>left reality without even a backward glance after being slashed in the face by his dearest henchwoman, who is currently spearheading the effort to rescue him
>has seduced females of all races and none who gladly aid him in his darkest hours, still only deigns to notice the ones with similar Chadette fighting spirit
>BONUS ROUND: On such excellent terms with his babysitter despite seemingly always having been platonic friends and her enabling a war that left his infinite power strained that she stood up for him in front of a whole not!TARDIS full of eldritch horrors (and one fallen angel)

Thanks OP, have a bump. And a single tear from a well that has been emptied.

thats a nice line.

>men bad!
>women good!

more like
>dream bad
>almost everyone else good

>Love belongs to Desire, and Desire is always cruel

Thanks OP. These last 2-3 issues have been more Sandman-like, but I'm still enjoying Books of Magic. I also liked the first issues Judge Gallow is a really good character. Meryn did what Meryn does when upset and Dora did nothing wrong.

Well how am I even supposed to get into it
