it takes them fucking forever because the original creators refuse to let anyone else write and direct episodes in order to preserve continuity, so if anything goes on in their lives, which happens frequently, then production pauses as they deal with their shit. Add on all the usual bullshit that comes with AS running a show which is notorious for being a pain in the as and there you go

As a Rick & Morty fan, I'm actually pretty annoyed with how the production of this show is handled.

>Season 2 produced in 18 months
>Show becomes really popular
>Harmon decides it's a good idea to hire 5 new writers
>Lazzo orders 14 episodes for Season 3
>Takes crew 2 years to finish Season 3 because "writing is hard"
>only 10 episodes produced violating Lazzo's contract
>Apparently 4 more episodes were in production but last minute the order was changed, I think because Harmon was taking too fucking long(this was mentioned in the DVD commentaries)
>Season 3 is not as good but gets record ratings
>Adult Swim takes 6 months to negotiate Season 4 contracts and ends up ordering 70 episodes
>Production starts May 2018
>Animation begins December 2018
Basically don't expect new Rick & Morty until September thanks to laziness and blatant mismanagement. I don't really care, no-one is owed a show, but Adult Swim are losing a lot of money by wasting so much time.

The Venture Bros had a smaller budget and also had a quicker turn around than Rick & Morty. They made 48 episodes in 6 years. so far R&M has 31.

Boondocks took forever to get new episodes too.

I'd rather they take their time and make something good than have them just scribble down any idea that comes to mind and pump out more Season 3-tier episodes.

season 3 was the highest rated season so far by almost double the first two though so he would be wrong. Getting rid of the toxic male writers really improved the show

That's partly because Dan is still raptured with the thought of hyperintellectual nihilism, even though it's a philosophical dead end. There's only so many absurdists episodes you can write about the consequences of suffering existential dread while being aware of every aspect that is causing that dread, with a healthy mix of non sequitur stutter humor and improv banter.

The only solution is to fire Harmon. He does more bad than good to shows that are in demand by the network but take too long cause of his lazy ass
