It sounds to me like they didn't even use a new actor for lahey. They simply used some of his old lines from the original show and slapped them in. That's why it sounds off. It's literally lines said for entirely different contexts using body mics slapped in where they only sorta fit. Honestly they should have just gotten a replacement actor. That's what I would have wanted if I was in John Dunsworth's place.
