Regardless, a majority of R34 is free so it's fine. Commissions are just a glorified donation of someones time. (If it's pay-walled, I'd be against it). Comissions, donations, and ad revenue is more like maintenance mode for an artist's livelihood; to pay the bills and can make more art.

No one claims fan art/derivative art as original. They claim it's fair use. They're using existing characters but not re-producing an exact copy of something. However, copyright and power tripping artists who overvalue their creations can use copyright as a weapon for censorship, and have art dmca'd. which is equivalent to digital book burning, or digital vandalism.

I disagree with the copyright monopoly and its draconian laws criminalizing good people and censoring the internet over pretend property. I'm not against the license ideology, it has its uses but most of it is disagreeable to me. Maybe I've got some marxist views, maybe not, I don't know but artistic freedom and sexual freedom is important, and something I deeply care about. I don't think there's anything particular about it vs any other fanart. As an artist your goal is always to express yourself but also to incite an emotion in your audience, you want to surprise, amuse, excite and terrify them. Art is a means of communication and the most objective way to measure it's success is how effectively it communicates an idea and an emotion to the viewer.

Sexuality IS a part of the human experience, and of the more complex ones at that. It's far from just a lowly instinct if you dig deeper than just waving T&A at people, find it really interesting to learn what really triggers people to become infatuated and obsessed with characters, i think every creator should embrace that fact that they're making content for human beings and the sexuality of their viewers will color the way they receive their creations.
