Been a while since I've seen an animated movie that I wanted to go through frame by frame so I thought I'd bring you guys along on the journey with me. I'm posting whatever good stuff I find- wallpaper worthy shots, easter eggs, smears, etc.
I'm going to be going through the movie chronologically but if you see that I missed something or want me to keep an eye for something just let me know.

>non-cancer Spiderverse thread
Yes please.
I'm pretty excited about getting a chance to see more of the 2d elements they used and how they were incorporated.
My Bluray rip didn't turn out as nice as I would have liked (the compression is really noticeable in shots with a lot of movement). If any anons can offer solutions on how to get a cleaner rip I'd be indebted to you.
Bumping for interest.
Increase bitrate.
>Aunt May knows Liv by nickname
>Blonde Peter fought her before he died
There's an interesting story there.
Stop.
Using what? I got a trial of DVDfab for this but I'm still really clueless here.
Gonna stick to prettier shots with less motion in the meantime.
>Animated movie
>So choppy and with such a low framerate you could actually go through it frame by frame in a Yea Forums thread that maxes out at 500 replies
This movie had some shit animation.
Unless we're talking about smears of course.
The scene after the collider explodes for the first time was my favorite. For some reason that fog and lighting really got me going.
💔
What? I was just curious how close Olivia and Peter were before she became a supervillain for May to use her nickname like that. Especially given how she keeps using his name so casually every time they meet.
Not sure if trolling or not. I feel like the only people I've heard complain about the frame rate are Yea Forumstards who've developed like...a mental allergy to seeing choppy animation.
Personally I love it. I can't find the video on Youtube right now but another animator broke down the movie's trailer and saw that the way they made the choppier animation and the frame-holds feel nicer was by having the camera keep moving even when the character wasn't.
It keeps everything on screen feeling really kinetic even when the characters are REALLY holding on some great poses.
The only cancer ones are the ones that people allow to be baited into of blacks vs whites
Not familiar with that program. Does it screenrip or rip right from source?
Either way there ought be an option to adjust bitrate unless it's the most rudimentary piece of junk
💔
God just look at the fucking variety of textures in this shot. I especially like how the left hand hardly looks like it's 3D.
I kind of feel like they HAD to be using some similar technology to what Disney used in the paperman short.
No, pretty much all of them are cacner.
>waifushit
>what fanservice do you want in the sequel?
Also given the extreme texturing and movements in some of the scenes there is the possibility the blu-ray compression itself can't keep up. Compare your rip with direct blu-ray screengrabs.
Fuck off back to tumblr shipper scum
Kind of a crazy smear frame on Miles' hand after he bumps into his mom. It looks like they might have just left a whole duplicate model of his hand with flat shading???
💢
Indeed, #.
I went ahead and tried finding an alternate rip that seems to be handling motion better.
Nah, they did that on purpose. Duplicate smear limbs (with flat shading) happens a few times throughout the film.
Is that kind of a Batman Superman thing going on behind Miles' desk? At first I thought that was just a spiderman poster but from a different angle it seems like he's wearing a cape.
Also is that Leopardon drawing on the desk?
similar to how Gainax smears
Love how if you look closely enough at the basketball you can see the lines of the ball are actually coming off of it.
I'm aware it's intentional, just kind of shocked that they were using whole models, but I guess they weren't exactly worried about polygon count or render time lol.
Yeah that's Leo. You get a slightly better shot of it later in the movie.
I literally said nothing about shipping, you dumb whore. I'm talking about how familiar they were with one another before they started fighting in their super personas. Was Olivia a family friend of May's? An acquaintance of Peter's? Damn.
Is there any way you could get me a shot of Doc Ock moving through the hallway or the woods with her tentacles?
Seriously the way her tentacles moved was one of my favorite things
I love this little kick he does here so much that I uploaded a webm of it:
i.imgur.com
You can kind of get a better idea of what I was talking about with the frame earlier where even while characters are holding poses the camera keeps on moving.
More smears!
Check out the end of the smeared arm though, they actually added a really cool little pen stroke. Nice touch.
Also does anyone recognize the name on the street sign here? I guess it could just be a street in Brookyln but it's featured pretty prominently in this shot and the next.
RFD-960 is apparently the license plate that's always used for the cop car in Law and Order.
If you haven't noticed yet one of the key visual distinctions of Miles' universe is that there's no depth of field blurring. Instead you get this sort of 'misprint' chromatic aberration affect. I really liked it in theaters but on Bluray it was almost a little too noticeable.
>Is there any way you could get me a shot of Doc Ock moving through the hallway or the woods with her tentacles?
Oh hell yeah. I'm looking forward to Liv. I can't imagine how much work those shots with the tentacles took.
I think a lot about how within the first 5 minutes of meeting Miles he's in a police car against his will...
I think it's one of those moments that's not explicitly saying anything political but it's going to set off some alarms in peoples heads.
Now this is a good thread
Can't get enough of the colors of this movie.
It feels like Miles' mundane life has a much more muted color palette to contrast with his 'super hero' life.
Make sure you get a shot of Smiley.
Didn't think about that. It's metaphorical about the relationship between Miles and his father, how the father detains him on the streets and transports him to the stiff, oppressive atmosphere of the school.
I understand making these shots a little more dull makes thematic sense and even is probably better for pacing the story but DAMN do I miss those first two minutes of the movie.
Also fuck Captcha.
If you told me this was concept art, I'd 100% believe you.
Look at these smug little fucks.
Who? I guess I'll know em when I see em?
Miles tie your shoe dude.
OH
I love how Miles' is conveniently hiding Liv's last name here. They did such a good job of misdirecting the audience and making her seem more like your typical McGuffin scientist who will need to be rescued or convinced to help the heroes at some point.
There he is. The villain of the next movie.
This guy
This fucking guy
Yes because n!ggers are dumb and smelly😃
>"Go ahead user. Tell the class what it is you like so much about comics and cartoons."
Smiley is smiling at the top of the stairs in the miles shot
It was pretty well hidden. Both in movie and in a meta-sense with the promotional material.
>"Tonight. You."
This is the hardest round of Spot the Main Character ever and I like that.
>"No user, you can't do your book report on Watchmen. You have to read a real book."
Goddamnit look at the date.
>"What date should the movie take place in?"
>"I dunno. When are people most likely going to be seeing the movie?"
Oh shit. I mean, it falls evenly between Gwen and miles. The redhead and benimaru fit on the main character spot as well, but the camera isn't focused at them.
If i hadn't known anything about the movie i would bet on gwen being the main character just because of that rim of light.⚾
evil incarnate
Your fortune: Better not tell you now
She was also the best villain in the movie. Her chasing after Peter and Miles was honestly just as, if not more, terrifying than the Prowler's chases.
ominous.💯
Exactly. It's subtle and I like that. They really didn't skimp on the background character designs for this.
Too real.
>"Nice to see you again, Peter~!"
She was the most delightful thing I've ever been scared of.
Nice trips for a nice thread
>The attempted glance he tries to sneak in before Gwen starts to talk to him
Cute.
Isn't there a later shot of a calendar that shows it's December? Which means he wrote Decembruary on purpose. He even added the r in the ruary part. On purpose. Miles is a comedy genius.
>knows aunt may
>the way she said peter's name
I know for a fact she was making passes at prime peter every time she saw him before she figured out he was spiderman.
I love all the subtle alternate universe nods like Chance's hat having a 4 instead of a 3 on the poster and the cops being PDNY instead of NYPD.
Can't wait until we get to the shots that show time square.
Oh god those colors
HNNNNNG
>cops being PDNY instead of NYPD.
Holy shit that's a good one. Really subtle too. There's also the Weeknd reference too
Something that took me a while to notice but I really love is just how crowded the skyline is whenever they show the city. It's not something that's super obvious but they added a cartoonish amount of skyscrapers to NY's skyline and it just looks so fuckin cool.
You make it sound like gwen going to break down into miles dorm and brutally rape him
New game of spot the main character.
I love how so many of these characters look like they were modeled with clay
Psych bitch he's over here.
Such fun little camera move to hold on the crowd and actually make people look for Miles before panning to show where he actually is. Shows how diverse the city is and how Miles is just another civilian.
I mean, that’s what New York looks like to everyone outside New York, an insane cramped place
Can't wait for you to get to the graffiti bit. Also bump!💚
It definitely goes to show that we've had more dynamic and interesting shots in the last 10 seconds than in the last 5 minutes.
We're definitely not at school anymore. We're on our way to see cool Uncle Aaron.
I dunno if it counts but I love the shot of Peter's reaction when Ock gets hit by the truck, for some reason the extra gestures just make it so charming
Niiiice
I'm starting to notice some repeated use of certain varieties of 'textures'. They definitely seem to use something close to what's seen on the lights in this shot on most light sources it seems.
Fuuuuuuck
Only just now realized who these two were on Aaron's phone based on the glasses.
Almost seems a little heavy handed considering they had such a strained relationship.
Good thread
Thanks user
Yeah i noticed that on the second watch and was wondering "Why did they say PD befor- oh"
fuck ;_;
>tfw when you don't have Supervillain money

>tfw when you'll never get to watch a version of yourself from another reality be the best character on Community
How can a two second shot of Donald Glover have so many layers to it?
Aaron doesn't even Flinch as Miles is punching the bag. Check all of the samurai swords and weapons on the wall. Also his shirt says Brooklyn Muay Thai Club on it.
If they don't change every version of Prowler to be as close to this Chad as possible there needs to be riots in the streets.
Another picture of Jeff and Aaron on the left there.
Love the texture on the couch. It looks like paint splotches.
Also check out these Ratatouille ass lines coming off the popcorn:

>If they don't change every version of Prowler to be as close to this Chad as possible there needs to be riots in the streets.
616 Prowler is already on that level and a AU version of Hobie Brown is a Spider-man
Better angle on the couch.
Hey it's our first Stan Lee sighting! Apparently they put him into a ton of the scene's in the movie as an extra.
Lookin pretty creepy there Stan. RIP.
"Do not enter on Cross Tracks"
Fuck off Yea Forums. Go jerk off to benchmarks and not playing video games elsewhere.
Aaron looking a little Prowler-y.
Gonna probably call it a night after I do this scene and pick it up sometime after tomorrow.
There's that light texture again.
What did you all think of this year's april fools?
It was fun, but didn't help me be productive. Barely got anything done today. But hey, I got a skelly! See you tomorrow if the thread's still up!
Rolled 66 (1d100)
Pretty meh but I've gained a new appreciation for some things.
Fun little visual flourish when Aaron throws Miles the can, that appears after Aaron leaves the frame and then disappears as Miles comes back into it.
>but I've gained a new appreciation for some things
Like what?
Just realized the color scheme of this whole scene is pretty similar to Uncle Aaron's character.
Like for Dissociating stalker Stan.
>a black man named Jefferson davis putting another black man into a police car.
Jesus i know Raimi was an executive producer but they didnt have to let him write the first act
Ugh. Getting really tired now and Captcha is wrecking me. Gonna finish the rest of the scene tomorrow.
Hope yall had a good April Fools!
Music and gifs that captures the feeling of something called mono no aware and tea. Was never crazy about the latter until recently and now I just have to find the right flavors for listening to said wistful inducing music.
Hmmm, I spotted him in on the right. Just to the right of the E. But it's very pixelly so I dunno.
Thanks! April Fools was shit this year but there's always next.
I love how Miles' dad was named Jeff Davis because "heheh meaningful name he's racist against mutants and we named him after the President of the Confederacy" and when I played the PS4 game he saves Norman and other people and you see on the TV screen "Jefferson Davis: Hero." or some shit.
This has been a very good thread user. Thank you.😂
I know it's April Fools, but you don't have to be THIS retarded.
great thread, thanks user!
Peter is a long boy
Thanks man
great thread user
See you tomorrow user
Man they weren’t kidding when they said they want you to be able to pause at any moment and it’ll look like a page from a comic book. These look great
♨️
Less destructive than last year🌈
>oh no, Liv is choking meee
this reveal really threw me for a loop in theaters it's really good
>Making little x's instead of fully filling in the bubbles

I want a GF like that
That coat drop around the ankles is just, urf

>The Sound of the Spider-Verse
Great video by this guy who does film score analysis
Thanks for doing this, OP.
>What's up danger
Man that scene still kinda chokes me up, I'm bummed i didn't see it in theaters but I'm glad to own it now. Also What did you guys think of the post credit scene
>post credits
Comedy genius.
>It's a choice
Fuck it, Gwen and Miles is old news. Miles and Liv is the new hotness. I will ship them and no one can stop me!
I like how totally clueless and innocent Spider-man looks while being examined. Out of all the Spider-man movies, this Peter Parker was legitimately funny and charismatic. He walked a fine line between geek and just a normal guy looking for love. This is easily my favorite Peter Parker in a movie about Miles as Spider-man no less.
>The way Miles looks back
This movie is fucking gold
Was not a big fan of it in the theater either. Thought it was overused.
>At least two people dressed in a Spider-Man color scheme
Nice.
Also, are some of the other characters meant to evoke Spidey villains, or am I losing my mind?
It's part of Miles trying to flunk out. He was intentionally making himself seem so stupid that he couldn't even write the date correctly.
Just realized liv's hair kinda makes the silhouette of her head look like an octopus
The chracter designs are really on point in this movie
You're an idiot
This is Autism I can respect
Nice thread idea op. MakeMKV is good to get the raw off the disk and containerised a nice file. If you want to transcode to make it smaller (lose quality) afterwards, Handbrake is a pretty good GUI option.
I'd call constant shilling pretty cancer desu
Jefferson’s phone has a photo of them too
It really shows how, despite not agreeing about each other’s way of life, they still loved each other
Yeah, this. MakeMKV will give you the raw 23GB file off the disc without recompressing it. You don't have to pay for MakeMKV either. There's a free key on the forum (or there would be if he updated it for April. Until then, you can use it in evaluation mode.)
I wish I could get the UHD version though. MakeMKV won't rip mine because it can't find the volume key, so I'm stuck with 1080p for now.
>the few times everyone can agree they like something and are fascinated by it and want to discuss is shilling
Great thread.
Ur right, thought the same thing. They prolly fukt
"Only my friends call me" whatever. Maybe shes mays friend preying on young Peter
Why do Spidey's eyes (mask) always make him look so fuckable? It's almost like he enjoys being choked and is smugly begging for some more extreme bdsm
God this is so good. Like I already loved this fusion for mixing Miles hero motif and What's up Danger, but I didn't realize all the other nuances with it. Fucking great music composition.
There's something SO GOOD about Jake Johnson's line delivery when Liv asks him how painful it would be for his body to disintegrate.
>"Oh I dunno."
It's like the perfect combination of innocent ignorance and complete disregard for his own well-being and it makes the Doc Ock reveal so much sweeter.
FUCK yes. I love Sideways.
>5G POS
What did they mean by this?
>Decembruary
OK, I know Miles inhabits a weird alternate universe where Doc Ock is female, Scorpion has far more extensive cybernetics, Green Goblin is a dragon thing, Richard Fisk died in childhood and Peter isn't utterly pathetic...
... But additional differences from the real world aside from the typical Superhero shit? What else is different? If there are more/fewer months, that would imply a different lunar cycle. If that's not the same then almost anything could be different.
See
Though apparently inflation is also through the roof in Miles' universe given two burgers and fries apparently cost $30,000
Another bit of glorious consistency that could shoot over somebody’s head is the part where Olivia tells Fisk she can bring him ‘all the families he’ll ever want’ or something to that effect because she *knows* that dimensionally displaced people have the glitching effect and will die if they stay in the wrong universe (suspicions confirmed from the Peter examination) She was knowingly setting kingpin up for another tradgedy and *of course* she doesn’t care about the consequences. Crazy bitch would have risked multiverse collapse for her goals what is a grief stricken kingpin in comparison?
> ... our collider
You always get the sense that Liv's duplicitous in some way; that she's looking for an end outside of Fisk's view. You're right. She knows what's gonna happen and the limitations of her technology, but that doesn't stop her from aiding Fisk in his goals no matter how intractable he is even regarding the risks. The only problem is that you never really discover what her aim actually is- but whatever outcome she's looking for, she's hellbent to achieve it even if it involves destroying worlds. Even if she just wants to see the world burn, you're never told why. Right now, she's just practicing some incredibly irresponsible science that will most likely kill her in the process. If she knows this, then is that her wish? There's just a gap there that would be fun to explore.
Sounds good, user.
It's 5G but the speed is still considered piece of shit?
>two burgers and fries apparently cost $30,000
I really love how the crew behind this film went HAM on showing that Miles’s world still takes place in an alternate universe through the use of fun subtle details like this just because they fucking could.
There was that same inconsistency applied to all the villains during the final fight -- the universe is collapsing around your ears and you can think of literally nothing better to do with your time other than fight Spider-people? I could accept it if applied to just one or two of the more psychotic types, but they were all like that.
I can't keep up with the whole thread right now but good thread OP. Always cool to see people appreciating the finer details of animation.
I love how this lie is really really bad and Miles just falls for it completely. He's so pure. I mean, why would Gwanda lie?
There's also a division between colors between the two universes.
Miles' universe is the "red" universe, whereas Peter B Parker is from the "blue" universe, see pic related. Miles' universe also has the Red Man Group instead of Blue, and RedEx.
Are there any other instances of these colors that anyone else noticed?
Oh, just noticed another one: Miles' universe has the "New York Red Sox".
Jorge Guiterrez (Book of Life) went on about how it sucks that animated movies don’t look as good as concept art. He tried to do it in his movie? But it was in Spider-verse where they truly pulled it off.
interesting how the letters and numbers on the board are a font that looks hand drawn at fist glance.
But the letter and numbers do seem to be hand drawn? It's not like all the 2's look the same and so on? They're not consistent.
I actually think The Book of Life captured the look of its concept art pretty well. The backgrounds stayed wonky and colorful, and the characters retained that Jorge-brand stylized look with the use of graphic silhouettes. Granted, they were puppets, but they—along with Xibalba, La Muerte, and Candle Maker—looked like Jorge R. Gutierrez’s work brought to life.
It makes me wonder how stylized the characters in Maya and the Three will look like since I doubt they’ll all be puppets again.
Book of Life is seriously underrated. I hope the sequel's good.
as a newyorker this pissed me off a little bit. i dont even like baseball, it just seems so wrong. i might be autistic.
maybe they were hand written by the same person.
I don't want a sequel unless Jorge actually wants to make one. For now, I'm fine with waiting for his Netflix series and that kung fu space western he plans to return to afterward.
>"Greek" burgers
I'm curious but also a little scared.
imagine a nice Greek marinated beef with some lettuce on a soft bread, Unf
That HOMEWORK font is bugging me.
Wait a second
Is she also wearing a Spider-logo on her clothing?
Clark Kent?!
Lousy Smarch weather!
G-g-g-ghost Lee!
She also got a bit of help by nature's greatest distraction. TEENAGE HORMONES.
>Peter's toes literally curling up in fear
Gwen a cute
It was apparently also a thing in Peter's universe.
It's NYC. Welcome to the melting pot.
i'm glad aaron is reasonable about charging his phone
>implying that Gwen couldn't or wouldn't
it wouldn't kill her. she just wants to know what will happen, like a true scientist
i doubt liv would fill them in on that little detail
He does want to make more. He said he wanted to make more right after he made the first one. And it's already in production.
He said back when Book of Life was made that he imagines the series as a trilogy. Book of Life 1 was Manolo's story. So we still need the Juaquin and Maria stories.
The letters on the right looks like a play on Old Navy, but I can't see the part behind the bridge.
The only shade of red starting with 'v' I can think of is "vermillion", which I'm not sure fits with the parts that are visible.
They don't have to know that the universe is literally collapsing, just see all this crazy stuff flying around in a light show to end all light shows. That sort of stuff usually tends to give one pause.
I mean knowing New York in Spiderman's world, a lot of this is pretty standard. I mean all they see is a big bubble of erupting locations in an underground facility. They don't see the large effect it's having on the outside world during the fight. As far as they know the event horizon could remain confined to to that room.
There's literally vehicles and buildings and random stuff popping into existence all around them. This is exactly how Doc Ock gets taken out.
Again, this is Spiderman. They've all seen worse. Green Goblin was an 8 foot tall monster at the start and it was basically just "business as usual" for peter.
It has a C health rating.
bump
I don't have a lot of figures around but spidergwen has a special place.
This movie set the bar so fucking high for artists and animators.
Are you mexican?
buy a better camera
>pay debnts
She's gr9
>doc ock was literally put on a bus
>No user, you can't lick my pussy
Man I can't describe how happy I was to see Prowler doing Muay Thai moves when fighting Spider-Man, and then rewatching the movie and finding out how they foreshadowed this stuff
I wasn't aware prostrate exams were so involved.
Your doctor doesn't activate his quad tentacles and force you into position?
