I'm drawing nyamo in my comic and need some references, preferrably nude
Jason Martinez
sick ass skull
Jaxson Torres
agreed. i've been drawing so many skulls lately for comic-unrelated art, they're so neat and really tricky to get right.
Ryder Wilson
Thanks If you want a quick tip for weird objects like skulls, look for models on sketchfab. I've managed to pull up a lot of models on there created from 3D scans, the models are not only accurate to life but rotatable making them great references.
Isaiah Evans
How the FUCK do you deal with all this anger at being so dogshit at drawing?
Acceptance. You need to acknowledge that you're clearly shit at drawing and the main way that you're going to get better is to keep drawing
John Turner
i've been drawing 5 years and i'm still total dogshit, read loomis and all that, fuck this gay hobby

>What is your favorite out of context panel/scene? I don't think Parisa is a /hyw/ resident, but this is my favorite webcomic panel to use without context. >Alt Q: What lore/background info is unimportant, but you have it for your comic anyways? Ideally, everything you draw out should either establish your setting, reinforce your theme, or advance your plot. That said, most stories can afford to have a little fat around the edges. I have a character in an urban fantasy setting with a major interest in the occult - not because it helps the story, but just because it makes for a charming moment when she first finds out about demons and magic. Just make sure you don't spend half a chapter expositing needless tidbits about your world. That's not a little fat, that's morbid obesity.
Honestly there is no solid method for getting over it. Some artists will switch from one drawing that is frustrating them and just try to do another fun one. Others can just push through it, and some can just take a 30 min break and calm down and come back and it works.
Try not to let it fester though. I've been drawing for over a decade, but honestly the level I'm at should have only taken 2 or 3 years, but I let the anger fest to the point that I don't practice or study very often anymore because I get mad too easy.
Don't end up like me user.
David Ward
gonna reboot Elves on Ice to ditch the winter/christmas theme in a few weeks. it was a failed experiment, but hey, I got further than expected.
I want to say the fact that I made this decision around the time spring started was a coincidence, but that's most likely why I got tired of the idea and that shows why it just doesn't work. oh well
try changing your style over time. get out of your comfort zone.

Ghadar Adventures, read it now on Smack Jeeves! >smackjeeves.com/comicprofile.php?id=179527 Page 14 has already been finished and waiting to be scanned but lemme find my fonts again, because i rebooted my computer...
Blake Carter
well I'm still gonna use the characters (they'll still be elves too), I'm just gonna get rid of the winter/christmas theme since I realized how pointless it is. they'll probably just be plain old woodland elves when I reboot the comic
still, glad you liked it user
Adrian Hall

>What is your favorite out of context panel/scene?
I always felt that the entire chapter this page is from was pretty out of context with the whole story, haha.
>What is your favorite out of context panel/scene? This one
It's never too late to learn the fundies. Hampton's figure drawing book is pretty useful if you're starting to feel the stagnation, I'd reccomend checking it out.

Thanks, bros.
>is this done with a real marker? Yes
>when you do crazy shit like the perspective warp, I find it hard to imagine how you'd plan something like this out
Drew that in 2 parts using a lot of pic references, then patched it with PS right in the middle, fixed some details with the Stamp tool.
>your handwriting leaves a bit to be desired I must say
You're right. I started using my handwriting -and traditional tools, for that matter- after a decade or so just for this comic, maybe I'll learn some calligraphy too on the way, as I consider the letters a part of my drawings. Oh, and I """""scan"""" with my phone camera, so a lot of details are lost on the way...
I hope so, cause I've been avoiding Loomis my entire life for no particular reason.

There was a brief window of time where a newcomer to the Laserwing website would see this and think Laserwing was about alien secretaries doing paperwork and talking about seafood. Joke's on them, Laserwing is actually about teen boys shouting at each other.
>Alt Q: What lore/background info is unimportant, but you have it for your comic anyways? All of it
You don't want me to spam lore, don't ask me questions like this unless you want to hit image limit overnight lol
Adrian Young
How do I find a qt artist to collaborate with? (hopefully female)
This. He may be a bit quaint but he's a good person. Let him in
Nolan Rodriguez
Does she only have eye problems in one set of eyes, or is she being clever and those are reading glasses on the lower set, so she can easily move from papers to people without constantly removing them? Also what does the glowy stuff she's emitting run on? Does she run out and become dim? These are the lore questions I have.
Ayden Scott
Well!!! Thank you for enabling my lore addiction.
Huldari appear treelike on the outside but are actually energy beings underneath. The exterior is something they're born with, and meant for camoflage, but as they go through life it gets worn down and the energy body becomes exposed. Warmi here is in her early 50s, but usually Huldari don't start cracking this bad until much later in life. She's taken some extra damage due to lifestyle and circumstances. A completely huskless Huldari can still live for a long time, on their densely forested home planet they're kind of like will-o-wisps, sometimes you'll see one out in the swamp being spooky.
The truth about her eyeglass situation is that she was a completely designed character before the four eyes rule came into effect. MOST alien species in Laserwing have four eyes, and two-eyed species are usually special in some way. So after I figured out that part of the lore, I had to go back in and change some designs. She has the glasses even in her younger form before the upper eyes lost their exterior. I guess we can say she has vision problems in just the lower set. We just need a strong visual cue to let the reader know she's a mousy paperwork lady, so that it's unexpected when she can fight too.
Warmi is the widow of Jaxelyn Kallisad, an elite Scythe who got killed in battle about 16 years before Laserwing begins. After Jax's death Warmi stepped down from an administrator position to become a regional supervisor. The region she covers includes Earth so she's the one Josh has to answer to when bad stuff happens.
Is there a lore reason the agent of galaxy spanning organization with several different species that we've seen already, mostly with four eyes, is wearing humanoid skull decorations?
Connor Carter
Meta answer: It's a motif that links him to another Laserwing character that he has a lot in common with.
Lore answer: Jaxelyn is a Bislari, and they have only two eyes. Those are stylized Bislari skulls.
But is there a reason that Jax is covering himself with skulls, or is he just an edgy boy?
Caleb Nguyen
Maybe a good third of Laserwing characters are edgelords! The Scythes are particularly prone to it, even the ones who aren't goth tend to drift towards gothitude just by being part of the office culture. I was looking for other pictures of Jax to post with this, and I have very few (because he's a minor, supporting, posthumous character) and one of them is him and his squad in Hot Topic clothes.
That should tell you all you need to know about my design aesthetic.
Chapter 6 of Laserwing is actually going to have a small scene where you see the kids at the Goth Kids Table in the school cafeteria. I actually had to pick and choose which goths to include because there's only so many kids I can fit at one table!
It's actually astonishing that Laserwing is not about goths.
Fucking hell, that's halfway between American Idiot-era Billy Joe Armstrong and Gerard Way circa Black Parade. I'm suddenly having flashbacks to late elementary school.
David Foster
That's what I was going for with Jax's outfit. Success! But uh >late elementary school God, what the fuck, my old ass can't take this I gotta sit down
Pic unrelated, now I'm spamming goth characters. These are refurbished versions of OCs so old I don't even have scans of them in their original forms. I have a policy of not being embarassed of anything from my artistic past but these two would be pushing it.
Aside from sitting at the goth kids table in chapter 6 don't expect them to show up and do anything cool until maybe...I dunno, the very end of the Lance vs. Pauline urban terrorist story arc. I'm setting up random backgrounder kids that I place around the high school so that eventually they will step forward as elite mooks for some of the bank robber kids. Kelly and Ivan are Donnie's elites, they both are extremely thirsty for him and he finds it really creepy. He keeps them around because they're both nuts and willing to go apeshit on any random victim he tells them to.
>Anarchist Cookbook >natural blondes Oh fuck that's hilarious, and the first one probably isn't even intentional.
William Long
I've never read it, but I have a friend who once claimed they used it as a guide to make bombs to try and get revenge on a teacher for reasons. It seemed in character for the kind of shitlord Ivan is supposed to be. If there's something in it about blondes or hair dye then idk where the joke is.
Pic unrelated: Warmi Kallisad and the kids in her district. S'nolaan (antennae boy) and Tidge (indescribable boy) aren't goths explicitly. S'nolaan's desk is covered in his culture's equivalent of Funko Pop normie nerd merch. Tidge goes to a nice private school and is just a generally upbeat regular guy. Josh and Marjolaine are very goth.
>idk where the joke is The joke is that any modern printing of the book has all the "fun" parts torn out, and any older, uncensored version is full of hopelessly outdated recipes. Like one of the recipes for a bomb calls for a bar of soap, but that was in the 60's and 70's when sulfate was a key ingredient. If he tried following any of the recipes without understanding the chemical reactions intended, all he'll get is burned fingers and a pot full of useless goop.
If you're going to use the Anarchist's Cookbook as a plot device, give him some chemistry textbooks to cross-reference.
Nolan Perry
He's not prominent enough to have his own plot devices, it's actually funnier for him to just use the fucked up version and think he's hot shit for 'almost' succeeding.
If I ever give the Winters siblings their own side story (unlikely) I'll keep it in mind that he can't rely on the Anarchist's Cookbook and expect results.
I did a quick sketch for them with undyed hair, just to see how it'll look.
youll only get so far unless you take time to improve what youre not good at. "just drawing" is actually probably a really good way of locking in bad habits that will be harder to break later on.

Really effective false flagging, but it's getting annoying now.
Samuel Moore
This one is weird because it looks like it was just as much work to copy this as it would have been to draw something original. None of the lines line up at all, it's literally like doing on-model fanart.
Christopher Miller
how is it false flagging? people change over time and coldfusion has changed for the better. he's had a long time to reflect and improve. what's unreasonable is these grudges held against him, it is unhealthy to keep them for as long as they have. it's time to give coldfusion his second chance, let bygones be bygones!
Andrew Moore
Cover page Don't know if I should do origin story first or just jump right in at random points. Can artists consciously tell what their artstyle looks like, because I can't tell at all.. Does colored pencil help give off a fairy tale feeling? I really want that, but I can't do water color.

I have a nearly infinite amount of lore and information that will all be relevant over the course of the next decade, but a good 80% of it or more is technically irelevant for this first arc. As a taste, here are the major national and imperial players in the world. If anyone speaks the relevant language, I'd appreciate if you could let me know if google translate is shining through to much.

I posted here a few years back with these poem comics and got a strange itch to do some more. I sometimes do requests on the drawthreads. My Current Archive- aliensoupbob.newgrounds.com/ My Tumblr that I don't use anymore- aliensoupbob.tumblr.com/ I don't have a lot of content though since I'm cripplingly shy about my work but im trying to be more 'outgoing'
Well, I knew what the national character was for each one, I knew what their purpose was in the larger scheme, and I knew their cultural import. So I took that to Google Translate and spent weeks trying to find names that seemed symbolically appropriate, relatively logical, and phonetically pleasing. That last one is really hard, especially for Mongolian.
Fie on your slutty elves!

Draw things you really love. You have to draw the stuff that calls out to your soul. If you don't feel like this towards anything, find it. Then you will be able to draw the things you love and do all the practice you need to become good at it.
Angel Thompson
my goal is to be able to draw lewds that make pants stir.

>hate the things I draw because I'm bad at drawing it >never git gud
I've been saying "times" all this time. Same for Kiss X Sis and Hunter X Hunter, where supposedly it's supposed to be silent Then you get a few games where it's meant to be pronounced 'cross' like Xenoblade X or the X-nauts in paper mario (and that one wasn't even the japanese name so we can't blame them)
I'm going to start calling Oni X Fox "Only on Xbox" now.
Joshua Miller
I used to do the good ol "ignore the x" when reading the title so it was just Oni Fox.
Luke Butler
Sorry for delaying new page. Getting married is a time-consuming process.
Jonathan Perry
Okay, I got a good laugh at calling it "Only on Xbox". I am totally okay with that, haha
I really never knew ignoring the x was a thing! Good to know!

Motherfucking sick of this teasing bitch always trying to tantalize the betas here. In 5 years when quality sexbots become mass produced we're going to rise up and be through with you roasties.

All of those could be one fake poll letting the readers decide the official pronunciation from now on the april after that you can make it "Boney X Rocks" and after that Macaroni x Magnavox

Those are GENIUS. You are way too good at this, haha! I'll definitely have to use those!!
Also, on a side note, here's the cover art for the final Macaroni x Magnavox sidestory that's beginning tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to sharing it!
All things considered with how goofy the comic gets, I could see it happening
James Bailey
>literally just writing a webcomic to salvage all my sunken ships 1- lawl, >the parts of the characters I like can't really be copied without making them seem like ripoffs 2- you can outright use your source characters, I have never heard of a webcomic getting a DMCA from anyone bigger than another webcomic author-and I can't even think of any examples of that. They seem to be in the same legal grey area as fanfiction. Proof off the top of my head- Powerpuff girls doujnshi, How I Became Yours, Like five-ish Warhammer 40,000 comics (Eagle Ordinary's author got hired by Games Workshop and it's stopped now, but that isn't defending their brand) Wasted Homeland, a Fallout comic that has an actual Patreon
Ignoring that, I'll read anything almost anything that's fantasy and anything that has sky islands. I'm sure anyone that really, really wants to see their ship would appreciate the rip off, maybe even enjoy it-cheese is fun.
is there any way i can believably make a young person become a high military rank very fast?
why is he tired?
Carson Parker
Yes, believe it or not some people rank up faster than others
Jose King
Nepotism. How young are we talking.
Jacob Green
7.
Jason Cruz
To young
Joseph Martinez
Along with the other user asking about age;
Is the military based on real life, or fictional? Real you're limited, fictional you can do whatever since you have more freedom to make up rules and exceptions for your world.
What is the person's education? Enlisted have to work their way up from the bottom and hit goals like time served and achievements. Basic higher education sets you up automatically with a higher rank (captain I think?).
On a similar note, individuals who go to military schools at a young age are more likely to already be on a fast-track of rank. A kid going to a military school instead of high school might be up to captain before they hit 20*.
Type of military branch? I think army has different requirements than navy or coast guard (or equivalent)*.
(*not entirely sure about these)
Lol, Doogie Howser of the military
Lucas Garcia
No way you can make that work if you wanted it to be taken seriously.
Finished chapter 3 before Webtoons died or something. Following is said without rancor. This isn't good-currently. I can see some later pages when they were posted to Desuarchive and the art has not improved. The main character's design is uncanny valley on one page and just busy on the other. He's had the most development/explanation and that makes it clear that I have no idea what his deal is supposed to be. He's a soldier and has powers, I have no idea if he's supposed to be old or prematurely aged, if he was formerly a soldier or just not on duty right now, anything about his personality beyond 'veteran?'. The story's substance is probably fine but the storytelling makes it boring. The editing is bad, most evident around transitions from the brown skinned woman and the sequence where he used his powers to leap.
I don't want the story to stop, I want it to improve. This is meant constructively-there are easier ways to shitpost.
Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. First of all, I haven't improved much since that page you found in the archives because it wasn't that long ago at all. The recent pages probably look worse because I'm whizzing through them faster as I want to rush the story along because I want to be done by the end of the year. The main character is Eden, it tells you his age in his introduction. There will be a chapter about his origins soon. I'm sorry you don't like his design, I'm always changing him up so I hope I can make him look better in the future. Thank you for showing even the slightest bit of interest/support. I'd love it if you stuck around.
Carter Sanchez
how old was caligula when his dad made him his own suit of armor and gave him the Wesley treatment?
Kayden Scott

The absolute 99.9th percentile of 7 year olds, the kind who are so far ahead that they can conceive children of their own? sure. Someone equivalent to the more average person's 12. average first-grader? it's not possible.
Alexander Williams
I hurt my hand at work the other day and now I can't draw. Welp, I guess that's that.
thanks! it's fictional. i think the real problem i'm thinking about is, who would take orders from someone younger than them? i'm going to have to chew that over
well shit is it too late to change my story
Evan Sullivan
How do i write a character whose brilliant at math if i'm fucking horrendous at math?
Justin Baker
worker's comp asap
Xavier Garcia
There are limits. If someone is giving orders that clearly come from a place of knowledge and authority, you'll get used to them being 18 when you're 30 but if they're so young they can barely speak coherently, still at the age where they run out of breath mid-sentence because they didn't plan out pauses properly, you're not going to be able to take them seriously. The only way this comic is going to work is if you write the kid so he sounds absolutely, utterly mature. He's going to have to work twice as hard to maintain order and control. It's a challenge, but I'll be interested in seeing how you handle it.
Jose Morris
Show the effects of their skill, rather than them using the skill itself. They can solve complex equations quickly, find solutions to theorems that have baffled other mathematicians, or point out flaws that were missed and prevented a solution. Show people being impressed with with their knowledge.
It's a similar way to the depiction of musicians; we can't actually hear the music on a comic page, but we can see the audience's reaction, the look of concentration on the musician's face as they lose themselves in the music, you could even show a visual representation of what the music feels like.
Matthew Smith
Nah not my thing-don't like any anime that isn't Berserk. But I do want to hear you succeeded. It's mainly his face and then his eyes-there is a lot of detail on it and it makes it cluttered. In that example pic the irises make it look like he has wolf eyes in 1 and just something deeply wrong in 2. I don't think the design issue is endemic, the blonde woman looks fine and the girl with the glasses looks great. Looking over my thing again the storytelling line wasn't phrased constructively but it's probably the biggest one in there. The dialogue's flat and the characterization is vague. I don't care what happens to these people, as is. tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EightDeadlyWords
That's not the original requester, they're fucking with you probably
Gavin Phillips
Make his specialty is non-Euclidean geometry, and then you write him as a sorcerer
When they talk about math, frame it from the perspective of a character who doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about. That way you can have it look like complete gibberish.
Justin Edwards
He's tired because the castle he's been defending has been under siege for quite a while, with assaults occurring too frequently.
Also, marinebro here, I would first ask why does he need to be a high rank. Does this character need explicit authority, or are you also mistaking high military rank for just being a badass operator?
>marine >badass I don't think you can talk here, just drop out of highshool and sit on a boat
Adrian Evans
Didn't see this, but nobody really cares how old you are. Senior enlisted men are far older than junior officers, and the enlisted still take orders from officers. However, sometimes the officers are too immature or even incompetent, but that's just how the US military works.
People aren't uncomfortable with taking orders from someone younger, just from someone who is inexperienced. It shouldn't be a problem if your character earned their rank.
Jason Morgan
no one would take orders from a 6 year old seriously, no matter how smart they seem theyre a literal child
Benjamin Bailey
New A Story of Fire page. Kinda made a mess so I decided to try my downloaded brushes on this one. Ill give my all for the next one.
He probably wouldn't be receiving promotions in the first place, even if he somehow got accepted in the military.
Logan Watson
Why did you change it from 7 to 6?
Funny thing is, this brings to mind that star trek episode when several main characters got de-aged in a transporter accident. One, they had the perfect actor for, but the episode took so long to get going that he was already a teenager and almost as tall as Patrick Stewart so it felt weird that everyone found it SO difficult to listen to him, so impossible for him to retain command. Plenty of aliens on that show were smaller and more childlike, and they held various ranks. The rest of the episode worked, since the other two characters were already one that's brash, impulsive, and childish, while the other was super serene even after turning into a kid, so no real contradiction there.
Zachary Cook
Not too bad, the brushes just need to be used more with the shape and direction of the objects in mind. Making the trees all one colored mass for example, instead of individual blobs to suit the shapes of the trees, is something to correct. Or giving the grass shapes blades on one side but flat horizontal lines on the other, or putting a diagonal wood texture on the tree instead of vertical line grain for the texture of the bark.
Why not make it like a Kids Next Door type of setting?
Jeremiah Diaz
7 is Tommy's age in KND and he's a laughing stock
Ryder Thomas
nice, that's good to know they'd actually be 15ish, the 7 guy isn't me. i love knd though
i like him!
and yeah. the character would need to be in command of a ship. i'm thinking about making her directly promoted by someone who wants her to crash and burn.
Oliver Perez
oh wow I fell for the oldest trick in the book, replying to someone else's reply. 15 is fine. he'd have a lot of work ahead of himself to justify his role, but that's a man. I suggest you watch Avatar if you haven't, Sokka was 15 and he earned respect as a legit warrior.
Asher Sullivan
15 years old is not at all unreasonable, some boys were just born as full grown adults already, just look at mike tyson when he was boxing as a 15 year old
>her nevermind
Isaac Roberts
oh I didn't see the 'her' that's sort of better and sort of worse. female authority is inherently harder to swallow, that's just biology. on the other hand, the vast majority of 15 year old women are nigh-indistinguishable from the way they're going to look from now until menopause, only pregnancy is going to really change things. so a 15 year old girl isn't any odder a boss than one twice her age.
Leo Smith
It's awesome to see you experimenting with new brushes! You'll definitely find that it will take some time to find ones you like and how to best implement them.
I really do feel the need to compliment your color choices in these panels, as well as the lighting you've been working on.
Jacob Perry
The fact that someone higher up would promote someone to just see them crash and burn and already illustrates how unprofessional this military is. This pettiness is seemingly apparent in militaries where nepotism is the norm. Therefore, having a 15 year old commander sounds consistent in a setting where higher ranking officers can be so petty as to make a very important decision out of spite.
>Sketches look good and have soul >the cleaned up line work looks like shit >Coloring it makes it look even shittier >tonight i practiced with grayscale for the first time >Suddenly everything looks awesome >mfw
Holy shit this is exactly what my art needed. It almost makes up for my horrendous line work. Is this what progress feels like?
>progress more like you found a workaround, but that's good. no reason to force yourself to do things the same way everyone else does. Enjoy what works for you.
Xavier Ramirez
Congrats!
Unfortunatly inking/clean lines in itself is another set of skills to learn on top of everything else when it comes to drawing, being able to keep those fluid lines into a more refined drawing can take quite a while to learn just like the rest of the stuff you have to figure out which can be pretty disheartening and frustrating. Im glad you were able to find a solution that makes you happy with your work and making it feel more like a professional comic!!
Anthony Reyes
I had just been dying to try and find something that gives my art that little spark. I look at everyone else in this general and they all look like they have character, while mine always looked like flat bland cut outs. By no means is it a solution for my lack of skill, i did find that it finally made my stuff 'pop' like i wanted it too. At least to me. i need to finish it and post to see if anyone else actually agrees.
Brody Thompson
Is creating fictional objects mostly the same as creating characters? Ignore the bad circles pls, wip

You may have been watching too many cartoons where everyone under 18 is a midget, and forgot what people actually looked like in school, but in real life, girls grow taller earlier than boys, but also stop growing earlier. After that, aging pretty much becomes a matter of what kind of clothes you're wearing, until wrinkles and white hair start setting in.
Justin Gutierrez

Jaxson Jenkins
Finally finished fixing up the tones on this comic.
Cute. This is a nitpick, but the layout of this page distracted me. If you follow it left-to-right, it looks like she's going "hmph," and then he's responding to that by saying "don't cry" and she cries as a result. Maybe flipping the last panel horizontally would make it flow better.
God damn seeing this little guy reminds me how much I miss real Sonic.
Jose Watson
>real Sonic I don't want to derail this thread, but I can't even put into words how demoralizing it is to see Sonic Team and Sega executives lack any sort of brand identity for the blue blur. It's like every time they start to make a game they're told, "Alright, this is going to be a spinoff title," and then two weeks before launch the higher-ups are like, "HAHA JOKES it's mainline, now force this jumbled mess to play like whatever's the flavor of the month these days." Of course, that's only when they're not committing to a style of game that they actively admit can't carry a AAA title with dozens of hours of expected content, so they pad it harder than a 13-year-old's brassiere. It's like they think that putting their IP in any old game will make it better and more beloved, as opposed to the earlier games which were beloved for, you know, being good.
Look at Mario. He has a sports games line, the sandbox series, the "New" series that borrows from the classic games, Mario Kart, and even two Mario Makers for the Minecraft generation, but they're all neatly sequestered and easily accessible. Nobody bought Odyssey expecting shoehorned mechanics from Mario Strikers or the juvenile "comedy" of Bowser's Inside Story, but that's what you get as a Sonic fan. It's no wonder the fanbase is so rabid - how can ST retain and satisfy their core audience when they don't even know what their own product is supposed to be?
my first thought is why is her nose missing in most panels
Josiah Reyes
who nose.
Thomas Butler
>or the juvenile "comedy" of Bowser's Inside Story Hey.
Evan Lee
>to play like whatever's the flavor of the month these days as opposed to the good ol days when it was a platformer..... among a sea of other platformers....
hmm. its almost like sonic was never good and its all just nostalgia.
Jason Barnes
Sonic and Mario were pretty much the de facto platformers of the time, though.
Henry Collins
This comic is so stupidly adorable and I really want to know where it leads.
John Lewis
Is it valid to want to relearn/practice fundamentals? most of the time I can get a drawing done that i'm satisfied with, but Ill often get into ruts and I wont be able to draw anything decent. It's starting to effect my work flow. does anyone who's long past learning them keep practicing them? is it worth the time spent?
Sega just needs to hand the series over to christian whitehead and just continue the sonic mania series. It would be cheaper to produce, and the sonic brand wouldn't be brought down by shit releases.
I should also mention I THINK it's just a problem applying fundies. my problem may stem from something else, like sketching skills.
Benjamin Campbell
I think everyone is always constantly working on fundamentals. That's why people are always doing practice, life drawing, observational drawings, warm ups, etc.
Of course it is valid.
Jose Walker
Nobody is ever past learning fundamentals. Something to remember about drawing from imagination or stylized like comics, is that you dumb down a lot of the essentials to work faster or simplify your work. Doing that makes it harder to remember the basics since you aren't actually practicing them to the same degree as you would from doing constant life studies (or other basics). It's good to jump back into basics to make sure you are correcting yourself on any potential errors before they become hardset into your mind.
Camden Allen
>fundamentals What did he mean by this?

I did some fan art of Ringo a while back. Office doodle, but it was fun.
Anyone willing to read the 12 first pages of my shit? I had too much real life stuff going on and was busy with another hobby the last year so I stopped doing this, kinda want to continue but there are a lot of things that bother me about it which I would change. I personally know what each page is supposed to convey since I am the writer though, so outsider opinions are prefered. www.circlejerk.de/dpm/en/comic/c01p01/ It's only a bunch of pages. Yeah it's that monk/Venice thingy I once liked 1+ year ago. Feel free to mention everything you hate, it's the first actual manga/comic I am doing so it has a lot of pacing and depiction issues. I am also considering changing the second monk's design a bit, don't like that old one anymore.
Wtf this looks like an actual manga, user pls continue with this comic it looks amazing
Jonathan Allen
>look at page one This looks like some legit manga, what's the problem here?
Charles Parker

>draw "____" >tower princess >create a character literally anything will do
Nicholas Brooks
i always hear that you guys prais often the art, but is there a webcomic you like from a writing standpoint?
Parker Bell
>praise
Nicholas Edwards
yes
William Price
Well I don't mean the drawings so much, rather the pacing and everything. Some dude told me he he found some of the later pages rather confusing, it's these things I mean. I am used to draw and to write actual plots but I am not that used to recreate said plot in form of a continuous comic so I am rather new in that regard. Thanks for the nice comments, though.
Aiden Sanders
mario has the opposite problem. occasionaly, genuinely creative people do something new and original with him, like the Paper series or (at least the drawing style of) the Mario and Luigi RPG series, and the hammer comes down from above like NO! none of this. stay on-brand! safe, samey, and generic. anyway this is mildly on-topic because we all have our own franchises here we're making, and we should plan ahead for integrity.
Aiden Cooper
You showed this before, didn't you? same artist as kevin no daibouken It's super high quality, I'm just not really interested in a totally dry serious story like this. There are also a few really slight proportion issues
Andrew Rivera
>paper mario series is great >can't wait for more exciting sidekicks and humor soon >sticker star
Nolan Hall
Yeah, thanks for remembering. I will try fixing proportion issues, there is one on page 1 that annoys me for example. The dry/serious aspect is okay. There is some mystery about a corpse they find ~15 pages later into that chapter but I actually intent to make it feel less colorful and rather dry to some degree so this comment is useful, it's okay that you don't like it.
Jose Diaz
/hyw/, gun to your head, how do you write a self insert hero and not make them awful?
Achewood (famously), Demon Eater (though it's not exactly well written so much as extremely novel), The Doe of Deadwood (please don't host your comic on Deviantart), Genocide Man and Indefensible Positions (same author, bad art), October 20 (possibly hard to google, hideous art)... That's it.
Possibly PREDATHEOSIS and Cat and Knight Adventures, from here.
Jordan Lewis
Yeah I respect the hell out of serious comics and I want them to exist even if I'm not reading them. The medium needs that, it mustn't be pigeonholed into comedy and fantasy just because that's what I prefer.
Joshua Butler
Kid Radd Demon's Mirror and A Better Place Digger of course I like the art in those, too. self-insert, eh? Well, aren't you a good person who would make a good character? If not, maybe change yourself. Maybe make the comic about changing yourself.
Mason Turner
I used to date the creator of Demon Eater and I accidentally broke their heart.
Benjamin Bennett
>how do you write a self insert hero and not make them awful? I think every story has more or less something like a self-insert, the trick is that you must always try to watch over it objectively and don't let it be obvious. For example it's okay to have a selfinsert that shares your problems, it's even good because you know how someone feels who has these problems. You must avoid making it too obvious though, let the character be his own character with own character traits and backstory, don't make him a clone of you. Similarities are okay of corse, just not too many of them. And the second, even more important part is that you need to refrain from linking the character to obvious wishfulfillment as much as possible. There is nothing more cringy than those Japanese novel characters who are novel writers and of the same age and in the same situation as the actual writer who then get transfered into a wishfulfillment fantasy world and get their harem of 10 super cute warrior girls that fall for him in an instant. This is a extreme example of course, but it's just meant to show how terrible such a thing can end.
Dylan Fisher
>Demon's Mirror and A Better Place Harro's great and just an all around good person and wonderful artist to work with. I have nothing but praise.
Jeremiah Diaz
If you haven't been, save copies of your pages without word balloons-you'll get a lot more freedom with translation and apparently you can actually sell that as art. A Patreon tier if nothing else. I feel like the editing and scene transitions are confused but I have no idea how to fix that so eh.
I worry sometimes my comic is untranslateable, so many puns and portmanteaux
Andrew Martin
>scene transitions are confused Yeah that one guy mentioned that too. That's what I will change. Your post is useful, thank you.
Jayden Phillips
good stuff
i think you mean sociologically harder, but, uh, fair enough
>how do you write a self insert hero and not make them awful? don't write a scenario where 'you' are a ignored visionary, unjustly bullied by one dimensional chads
There's nothing okay about what happens in pokemon translation.
Jose Roberts
>how do you write a self insert hero and not make them awful? Make him just as pathetic as you are IRL but without the depression and defeatism, so he's forced to learn something during his adventure.
I had a chat with him recently and he's such a nice person.
Hunter Morgan
what website is better if you update bi-weekly and not in chapter dumps it seems like thats what people typically do on tapas and webtoons
Luis Hall
I hate that too. On tapastic or whatever the name was you have to dump chapters or upload every page separately or else it did not only not show you updating (meaning that people won't notice) but you even won't get a new ad which are only added at the end of a separated entry. It's stupid since everyone should know that most people do chapters instead of these weekly 4koma things.
Jacob Butler
i want to do an adventure comic but don't want to do chapter dumps every couple months. i want to update a page a few times a week
Aaron Reed
Yeah same as me. Chapter dumps are stupid anyway. Nobody who does quality work does a chapter a week or so and having too big time gaps is bad too. The optimal pace is 1-2 pages a week.
Connor Green
Bobwhite Zebra Girl Unironically Homestuck, but specifically for the character motif organization and the way callbacks and foreshadowing are woven in, not the pacing and definitely not the ending
Kayden James
what resolution do you publish comics in?
Christopher Hernandez
start on a nice big canvas, but resize it down until it's 1000px wide or less. height isn't important. 1200 wide is the absolute widest you can do, but don't go below 800
Jason Walker
He did, But seeing how Kit's been alive in real time for about 2 or so minutes she got spooked
oh okay, this follows well. But if you added a word bubble in the first panel of the next one, it would help. just a little "..um..?" from the mouse.
Aaron Morgan
good evening /hyw/ here's lucy trying to act smug. I'm still chuckling at it. I was kind of in a rut, but I pulled myself out of it in order to destroy him with better art.
I really like the 3rd panel here, great perspective.
Don't see why you have to be mean to some random user
Easton Ortiz
if you mean the guy here, it was just a joke, I get why he's doing the tests. if you mean lucy, he deserves it. he's not a random user, and he's acted much shittier to me, and many others in the past.
i meant lucy or whoever that person is in your pic
Brody Sanchez
he's an absolute shit head. I don't care if I come off as mean cause he's done much worse. he used to frequent the thread/discord and act smug. sometimes he comes here, pretend he's better than everyone else than leaves. all without having a webcomic to show for it.
and honestly, people can think what they want about my art, but I have an ongoing webcomic and he doesn't, and ill always feel like the better artist cause of it.
Nice trips. Also thank you! I know nothing of color theory but most (most) of the times I can sorta tell what color DOESNT belong. As for the brushes... Yeah, its a lottery. 90 percent of what I downloaded was probably useless.
As always im very thankful for your support.
Good advice, thank you! I feel like I went a bit overboard with them without much direction. Guess its natural since it was my first try.
Grayson Turner
>pachyderm, noun, a very large mammal with thick skin, especially an elephant, rhinoceros, or hippopotamus. that's a new one.
there isn't anything wrong with using the shit talk of a moron to pull myself out of a rut and draw better milfs/goth gfs
When someone does their best to make themselves look like a twat, all you're doing is letting yourself get dragged down too. And bringing it from one thread across to a different board into another, totally unprompted? Makes you look dumb, disrupts other people's good time, and gives him the satisfaction that he GOT to you. did you really never hear the word pachyderm before?
Daniel Hall
I'll be sure to remember that, thanks for the feedback
eh it felt fine since someone else brought simular drama in here before. especially since lucy is still kind of a hyw personallity. if its really a problem I wont do it again.
>did you really never hear the word pachyderm before? no, maybe I have but not in the context of an elephant.
Wtf are these gaylords beefing about? Anyone got the quick rundown? Also in order for a fair unbiased verdict, both the artists' art should be posted to compare.
I actually thought these two were the same people at first. Their art is kinda similar looking, and they both have gay female pseudonyms.
Nathan Stewart
>draw better milfs/goth gfs Goth Oyakodon.
Aaron Robinson
Ignore them, namefags are always trying to shit up these kinds of threads with their personal drama as if anyone even knows who their self-important asses are. Just hide their posts.
Samuel Brown
>ignore juicy worldstar e-fights No way, at least link me the NSFW thread where they're throwing down.
Josiah Walker
I would personally appreciate if you tried to lower the amount of drama overall, even if it seems consistent with accepted behavior.
And that's... very interesting, given that it's a word used heavily in cartoons even for young kids

you know what though, there's ample precedent for selective ignorance. Sometimes a word just falls right through our fingers.
Brandon Cooper
>very interesting, given that it's a word used heavily in cartoons even for young kids Not to mention every educational animal video created in the 80's on through the 90's that I'm sure are still used today. Unless you live in a school district that no longer has VHS players Right now word ignorance is more fascinating to me than drama, to be quite honest You need to watch more Jack Hanna
Ian Parker
honestly I was thinking more like that one Full House episode with the Barney-knockoff whose costume was actually of ludicrously high quality for a kiddy show mascot.. but that guy was a rhino. Still. That same costume got used decades later on Key and Peele, it was fucking quality. I wish real kids' show shit looked like that. surely they must've used the word on Sharon Lois and Bram's Elephant Show from time to time. That shit was my jam when I was 4, but then I'm older than most in here.
Asher Ortiz
I was born at the end of the 90's, I also grew up in bush's no child left behind america so primary school wasn't great ether. I swear I've never heard that word used before.
the left adores their precious "underfunded" public school system, and hates when bush tried to force them to actually show results or lose their funding
i mean it was handled incompetently, but it was the first time anyone tried to hold the system accountable.
Ian Young
oh baby here we go, got some milk tea to go with this
Don't know what any of this means, but how does that affect you not having a vhs player
Julian Williams
it happened after VHS stopped being a thing. LM is too young to have had one of those.
Adam Ward
Old schools keep old vhs players long after they stopped being a thing. Especially poor ones
Joseph Green
Is that a fact? Not sure then. I know my schools throughout the 90s and beyond showed movies way too often instead of teaching anything
Angel Jackson
It's off-topic, but yes schools usually get saddled with old equipment and keep it for a long time.
Ethan Jenkins
the problem with it was it's incompetence. American education was failing because no kid wanted to go to school everyday to learn bullshit and get bullied. the new system made it worse since everything became about doing well on tests rather than actually teaching kids useful things. grades slipped because even more kids stopped wanting to go since It was all about needing to meet impossible expectations.
basically it was >threaten to take funding if they don't improve. >make school worse by focusing on preparing kids for tests so they improve grades. >kids stop caring/leave because school is no longer helpful/is actual torture. >school loses funding. >ability to prepare kids for testing becomes crippled by lost funding. >repeat.
I had a VHS player, and a ton of old Arthur tapes up until the mid 2000s. My siblings and I had all the old stuff as hand me downs. I even remember my schools using them, we just mostly watched stuff like bill nye and magic school bus.
i dont want to draw an elephant with her head down on a desk so just imagine it.
Joseph Morales
well the irony, of course, is that it illustrated the right's point about how government meddling and overregulation doesn't work. It's the same thing with communist industry, you find a way to wiggle around the quotas, and everything gets worse. I just find it hard to care when it's pretty clear there IS no right way, and nothing that anyone involved was trying to do would have been good even if it HAD worked. This is the first I'm hearing anyone suggest that 'wanting to go' had anything to do with it. It was torture for all of us, but it was the law.
You're welcome! Knowing what color doesn't belong is huge, really, so it's good you got a feel for that! In regards to brushes, I also have a ton that I never end up using. By the way, have you looked for brushes on DeviantArt? They tend to have some good ones there! I usually search for comic/manga brushes myself.
>brushes on DeviantArt Don't forget gumroad and pixiv, though pixiv you might have to do a special google search with your key keywords and "site:pixiv.*" to get them to come up
John Powell
No Child Left Behind is something implemented in either late Clinton or Early GW Bush. Suppose you're a kid that failed your class, but not by a wide margin. D Student material, when you need to be at least a C. Under No Child Left Behind, if your school doesn't promote you to the next grade, they get their funding cut. So instead of making kids repeat a year, they dumb down the entire curriculum so that No Child gets Left Behind a grade.
Andrew Adams
>i dont want to draw an elephant with her head down on a desk How about the back of the elephant's head, in silhouette from the glow of this bad motherfucker?
>Under No Child Left Behind, if your school doesn't promote you to the next grade, they get their funding cut. So instead of making kids repeat a year, they dumb down the entire curriculum so that No Child gets Left Behind a grade.
Hmm. Perhaps this is the reason behind the US’s current rampant uneducated millennial soi-fueled flat-Earth anti-vaccination problem.
John Smith
Hey, it's that Billy and Mandy character.
Colton Lee
You mean that shit that's completely manufactured by the media to make people feel superior to others. Yeah I think education's at the heart of that problem alright.
Justin Jones
NCLB was unwittingly some communist level garbage. The reason communists produce shoddy work is because there's no incentive to do well.
Instead of putting stupid quotas on schools with money at stake, put quotas on teachers with their jobs at stake. Except their jobs would pay 80k+ a year with great perks and raises, see how hard people will teach their students with a job like that. If you're being paid 35k a year, who really gives a shit about the schoolkids? They have their own bills and worries, getting old is expensive.
Adrian Bennett

Any tips on learning anatomy? Is there a specific book that I should study from that is particularly good.
Austin Wood
human anatomy? because I have some tutsplus links that are amazing for animals of various kinds
Michael Gray
Yes, I meant human anatomy. Couldn't hurt to do some studies of animals though.
Uh, people thinking the Earth is flat and that vaccination causes autism is pretty much the heart of poor education.
It’s not “the media” these people post these types of things in comment sections on websites, on Facebook, and even in real life. Sometimes I’m taken aback by how stupid some people are.
Leo Williams
>It’s not “the media” these people post these types of things in comment sections on websites, on Facebook, and even in real life. I want you to look at what you just said. the 'enlightenment' crowd has been spreading the "people used to think the earth was flat but we're so much better and smarter now" paradigm for centuries, you'd think you'd have picked up on their lies by now.
Zachary Thompson
I do like it, but only as long as the short side isn't in front of the shoulder
Jason Rivera
Mignola blesses your style, my child
Nathan Harris
Yeah I think the awkward thing with this style is how it seems to go forward and back without warning
Jace Wood
Oh! I think I see what you guys mean! Is the problem with her hair where the ear is showing changes between in front of and behind her shoulder?
Kayden Reed
that's one way of putting it, yeah
Brody Parker
I appreciate the input! Was just looking through my drawing files of her, and I found that I've been more inconsistent with that than I realized. I'll have to decide on what to settle on.
Brandon Fisher
hair is one of those things like faces where we get used to 2d symbols for it, but at least a face is approximately flat, whereas hair is almost spherical. I've been there.
Eli Mitchell
It does get a little tricky, for sure! I'm glad you guys brought this to my attention so I can work on it.
I'm thinking of keeping the hair on the exposed ear side generally behind her shoulder, then. I think that would be ok....
Oh, Monsterlands, I wanted to say this for a while but never got a good chance- Berserk is a fairly old but really good manga that does the same thing as your comic, giant with an even bigger weapon fights monsters, but with a very dark tone and focusing on monster fighting. For some reason you're allowed to read the whole thing free online.
berserk.fandom.com/wiki/Apostle#List_of_Apostles Off the top of my head, the prototype chapter(99.5) has good choreography, Rosine fight has good tactics, the Slug Baron and the Snake Lord fights are comparatively low power but still flashy and there's human fights all over.
Does your character drive a car? Or what sort of vehicle do they drive or pilot? Real or Fictional? Even if your character doesn't, what would they have driven if they do?
for the first time in years i actually started making progress on what i hope to be a debut comic. im using a class assignment as fuel to get me to finish something for once. ive got about 4/20 pages sketched out so far and a script finished, so I'm pretty excited to make some real work!
The few stories that I'm working on take place in an alternate world that's mostly the same as real-life, so it's pretty boring. Story 1, the main character drives a generic old sedan that the second character constantly refers to as the Ford POS (I'll come up with something more original later), meanwhile she drives a not-jeep jeep that's clearly seen better days. Story 2, younger kid (late teens) eventually gets a hold of of a fixer-uppper pick up truck that's missing the bed at first. Story 3 has the main character riding their familiar, a griffin. It's just a short fantasy story, not very interesting otherwise.
Gavin Brown
Progress! So what is the story about?
Isaac Smith
what about a boring protagonist surrounded by interesting people? Aww that's a lovely.. mace? magic wand?

can anyone suggest ideas for interesting powers? I wanna give alot of my overnaturals (metahumans or mutants) powers that aren't just..punch really hard or shoot lazer beams.
overnaturals, that's actually a pretty good term. people usually suck at renaming mutants if their powers are genetic, I say stick with plausible stuff. venom, claws, sharp bones that come out of the body with velvet on them first.. But if you're trying to go crazy on purpose.. ablative armor skin, lava vomit, medusa-eyes (to be less OP they don't permanently turn someone to stone just sort of the same as ice powers but without the cold, needing continuous beams to fully stop them)

Exfiltration, making someone believe bad information, starting a fight off well, taking a prisoner, impersonating a cop, anything that involves trust. Probably more depending on the type of person who has the powers, if they can just overwhelm people they ambush that changes how the story flows.
Michael Thompson
it varies with overnaturals but! they're born with a gene which activates either during puberty, in a near death experience, or accidents. very rarely did they have their powers at birth.
Dylan Thompson

This, all this talk about CF has made me wonder what he did that was so bad he had to get culled from the herd. He seems like a jovial guy, and actually produces comics/art.
Logan Jenkins
Not sure if the text bubbles in the big panel should be there. Maybe floating text would work better in every regard. Also, are the silhouettes relatively intuitive? I'm new to them, but I'm told they're an effective and powerful time saver while also being a good mood setter.
I can hear the "waaah" in my head as she falls over. Dead-on Lifetime.
Eli Wilson
It's almost like this is someone trying to make someone look worse by being "on their side" and being a pest But that couldn't possibly be true, right? Not a fourth time.
Brody Mitchell
Ooh you made a page 2! Is this comic doing pretty well? I mean, it's already achieved a common webcomic goal, it's being read

You can tell this person doesn't even know CF because CF left the discord of his own volition. He hasn't given this guy a single (you) because even he knows it's bait.

Very cool, I love tengu.
Gasparro its gonna have a lot of responsabilities from now on. I seriously cant see any of those fuckers being into the kings project.
This looks great. I still have two series in my to-read list but I defo would check it out.
Luis Long
I love that they aren't just generic lightning. the pointy arrow bits work.
Levi Richardson
It's a unique take on tengu too. We all know what tengu masks normally look like after all. Super neat.
John Flores
It can't be generic lightning because Matt actually has next to nothing to do with electricity outside of the context of machines. He doesn't have any weather based motifs, actual lightning has no bearing on his power set. But he can click you to death.
Interesting, but what, physically, IS manifesting then? Or are we not supposed to think that hard about it
Christian Hall
Reminds me of how the tengu emoji its called a "demon". So dumb.
Colton Hughes
I think tengu are probably a lot closer to the concept of a demon than oni are, the ones who usually get saddled with that. In my day oni were compared to ogres and goblins instead, much more appropriate.
Brody Hughes
Magic. Explicitly, it's magic. Every character has an 'aura effect' which basically amounts to a personal graphic aesthetic. Aura effects reflect a mix of personaltiy and soul element. No two individuals across the entire universe will ever have identical aura effects, so if you ever see this pink arrow lightning on another guy, you'll know that's still Matt.
40k thing, in the Machine Cult of the Adeptus Mechanicus, instead of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, they have the Machine God from which all knowledge springs forth, the Omnissiah who will guide and unite man and machine, and the Motive Force that sets all things in motion, or something like that.
Yeah, but instead of his magic being lightning based, calling down thunderbolts and shit and powering things as a result, it's purely energy to power machines. Not electricity, but a force that makes machines function.
Connor Myers
Matt's is still electricity-aligned magic, he just doesn't have any personal character affinity to naturally occurring electricity.
If he trained it really hard he could potentially use his magic to control light and sound because it's electromagnetic. If he had an interest in weather magic he could MAYBE learn a few lightning tricks but it'd be harder for him than for someone whose soul is aligned towards air or water.
It's a lot more Pokemon-esque than I like to let on.
Christopher Carter
I’ve been lurking for ages and I think I’ll start posting. We’ve been working on this for a while and I’d love it if you took a look.
www.hautehorreur.com
A young woman is transported to a world of monsters where she joins forces with a mysterious and morally questionable force.
Episode One includes an Infomercial, a Spaceman, and the Unlawful exchange of restaurant secrets.
why does the minion on the right just say that? seems really random
Nolan Ross
this looks like something dewd would make
Jack Barnes
She gets impressed when someone blast someone face off.
Brandon Wood
don't. get gud at math
Samuel Evans
Thank you!!
Thank you both!! I based the face after a karasu tengu mask I picked up in Japan a while back!
I found that interesting, too. I always thought of Oni as a kind of ogre/goblin. I assumed people began to think of them as demons due to their appearance.
Colton Jackson
Eh? No it doesn'- Oh no, it was opening so strong!
how do i stop doing unproductive things and avoiding my shitty comic because I want it to be perfect?
Tyler Bailey
Why would you think that?
Connor Young
>Spend years learning how to draw in order to create a comic. >Finally get good enough. >Realize you can't write for shit. Anyone else have this problem?
Charles Ramirez
i was like you once just don't worry about it and make the pages a bunch of scribbles nobodies going to read it anyway your hard work will go unappreciated so just half ass it at most
Angel Wood
Looks great, you should feel good!!
Oliver Sanchez
i have the opposite problem
Lucas Kelly
plenty of desperate writers out there, user.
Charles Richardson
Just to be clear that was meant in jest. I did like it, even lol'd when the eels showed up, but praise doesn't help improve. Try to avoid long scenes and things that are supposed to be 1:1 what happens on tv, you go up to compare the panels and find what's different which breaks the flow. The video sequences feel like they'd be better for scenes where no one's talking. That or give them Sims chatter. Also on the videos, act 2 p 3, there's a part where the camera zooms in on the spaceman's helmet and it looks cheap because it's moving directly on it. I *think*. Anime's style is derived from trying to convey motion with limited movement and you can look up more about its cinematography on YT youtube.com/watch?v=3uMlIg9gVdY (requires sign in because ????. The one by Gigguk, not sure if explains best necessarily) >Eloise: I may be new to this world but I’ve done everything to learn all about it! I’m a specialist in all manners of Supernatural Phenomena! cryptozoology, crypto currency, aliens, poltergeists, voodoo, voodoo economics, reaganomics, you name it! Having only crypto or Reaganomics would make the joke work better. >Eve: Way I see it, the problem sorts itself out. He’s incinerated, whoever he sells them to is incinerated, we have one less food drug dealer in this country, crime drops- Unless a plot point, might roll better as "food dealer", makes the crime drops claim funny I feel like it was noticeably more tightly paced at the beginning.
Fuck it, I'm not doing anything I'll ghostwrite for you
That or you two team up
Eli Torres
I want it to look good
Michael Barnes
Ugh, no
Isaiah Fisher
Wow thank you for taking the time to write this extremely thoughtful critique! I appreciate it. The Ken Burns style zoom in from the animatic came about originally as an accident when I was putting together the video that I ended up keeping because I thought it was funny - very much with the intention to be corny as hell!
Do you even have a single valid reason on not letting CF back in?
John Hall
Well now this is interesting. Laundrymom and Lucy are both in there. Is one of them being nice or is the other being a false-flagging asshole
Sebastian Phillips
Awesome
Camden Lewis
Do I need to know anything about copyright?
Luke Jones
>'would make pets and beasts of burden of vermin?'
What is this supposed to say? I keep thinking it's a typo and it's either supposed to be
>making pets and beasts of burden OUT of vermin
OR
>making pets OUT OF beasts of burden AND vermin?
or are they making pets, THEN the beasts of burden for the vermin? It's grammatically off kilter for me.
Bentley Cox
not really. as soon as you publish your shit anywhere, you have proved your copyright of it.
Nicholas Jackson
even Tumblr?
Hudson Moore
technically as long as it's the first suggestion, that's not ungrammatical it's just awkward and slightly archaic. people used to say 'of' where we say 'out of' all the time.
Noah Morales
yeah, publishing is publishing. one of the few places the law has actually kept up decently with patently obvious transitions into modern media. Unlike all those poor DVD releases that couldn't get anyone to admit that obviously all home video rights agreements should be grandfathered into all subsequent formats. People used to actually say just mail yourself a copy of your work, and it'll have a postdate on it as proof. Now we just have the internet so it's easy. once it's up, you have the oldest proven instance of it, right there.
Chase Long
This, never got why CF got lumped in with dewd and bones.
Michael Robinson
Everyone is different No two people are not on fire
Isaac Phillips
Finished this chapter.
Just a short fun chapter about Saudra molesting Angel.
I like your style. It's not amazing, but that's what makes it better than if you were a better artist. This isn't a dig at you, but I really like the human touch you have in your art. If any of that makes sense.
Henry Myers
Fuck you, Bones is leagues above those trash, and the rest of us trash. I miss him so much.
Jonathan Peterson
>"I'm so fucked cup.."
Liam Gonzalez
I've gotten a variation of this sentiment a few times now actually. I kinda understand since a lot of my favorite art and music is kinda rough around the edges and stuff. Of course I want to improve though, but I'm glad where I'm at right now resonates with you and others
Nathaniel Campbell
Ah... what I was interested in, was that driving a vehicle as a expression of a character's status or their personality. So, even if they don't' actually need to drive, but if they do, what does the kind of vehicle say about them.
What Rococo is driving here is an utility lorry that has been repainted to fit her color scheme. It was original white and gray. Its kind of like a hybrid of a property super's golf cart and a utility truck.
That's interesting, does the second character and her jeep have a history? Is the old ford just a transportation or does the MC really like it?
That's actually pretty neat, I should think about that stuff more often. I guess because I don't drive, and because I was always taught you just kinda get the car you can afford, I never made that link between personality and vehicle. Also because I find vehicles boring most of the time, so to me there's just Kaneda's bike, Mahoro's bike, the Batmobile, and then everything else is lousy and forgettable. Now you're making me think of Venture Bros and how memorable the vehicles are in that. Shit. Good inspiration. Of course in my comic's setting it'd still be mounts, and they did do a brief "we're riding horses but one of us could only get a cow, and one of us has a velociraptor because lololol" thing in the old comic. I suppose if I'd had them ride anywhere in this one (eh there was a caribou mount briefly) it'd be, in order, >a big wolf like her dad >her brother transformed into a big enough wolf to ride on >a diatryma-ass giant bird >a giant bug >cool running robot >some kind of walking plant >a cute pony and then she gets confused and turns into something to give it a ride instead >a basket held in the teeth of a bear and i now that I think back, Ribbon did have a pet hamster that she rode. and that Mifune guy rode dragons a lot.
Why don't you redraw this character sheet, you've improved a lot since
Nicholas Gonzalez
It would make sense for any last-minute fanart, to have a picture of everyine post-final-timeskip. I might! Right now it feels like that work would be better put towards improving the cast page on the site, or updating the map. The character sheet is basically used here and when I beg for fanart.
Tyler Cox
Months of anonymous campaigning by one individual to turn people against CF, I suspect by bones.
Samuel Roberts
>That's interesting, does the second character and her jeep have a history? Not really, no. She came from a more upper middle class family and wanted a Jeep when she went off to college, and got one via her parents. Since her parents died she hasn't been handling it well and has wound up wrecking the Jeep a few times during DUIs and casual recklessness. She rarely drives it through the story and now depends on the main character for transport most of the time since they work together.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep it or change it to something else, at the time I figured Jeeps were a good stereotypical car for inner-city tomboys with money.
>Is the old ford just a transportation or does the MC really like it? Mostly just transportation. He likes it only in the sense he doesn't have to take the bus. He adopted a half-elf kid long before the story begins, and because of the kid's health issues and related medical bills (and kids are costly in general) he's constantly low on money and tries to make do with whatever he can, including second-hand anything and the car his mechanic mom helps him maintain.
For context, both the characters are mid-late 20's.
Jose Barnes
Its funny how they're fighting over who's better when both of their art is shit lol
Chase Turner
To stop your art from having streaks in the colouring colour in a circular motion rather than an up and down motion, the circular motion will blend it out giving the overall picture an even colour rather than one with uneven streaks
Cameron Russell
thanks! I actually was starting to think that'd be a better way to do it but now I have to do a page like that
Carson Mitchell
Yeah! Definently test it out to figure out how to do it properly, but I think once you get the hang of it it'll really make your comic look more polished. Its already looking really good but I think the even colouring woukd make it look a lot nicer
Blake Davis
Can I draw some fan art of the cute catgirl and sexy grey haired body suit chick?
Ryder Stewart
how does one color skin properly?
Michael Nguyen
Yes. Yes you can please. (the suit is made of living shiny demon hair so it can shapeshift into whatever, and the ears and tail on the other one are half cat half wolf so embrace your inner furry)
Nicholas Foster
Remember everyone, you are loved, and if you try you can bite almost anything
Nicholas Thompson
thanks lad
Jace Flores
The secret is that skin is never one color You need a base color plus cool and warm shades and highlights ivory white + violets and reds + yellows and pinks
Jack Wilson
whats hard for me is knowing where the random different colors go. Like, i get where shades go, but the random colors dont always follow the same rules.
Asher Myers
Seek a reference pal
Jacob Ross
>you can bite almost anything Just don't bite the dust
Elijah Howard
Cool colours are used in spots with shadows while warm colours are used for highlights, also reds are used in places where the skin is more thin like eyelids, cheeks, nose, and the tips of the ears
Austin Sanders
Think of the worst Tumblr fanart you've ever seen, where all the noses and elbows are bright pink. And then tone that down from an 11 back down to a 2. People who are older or work outside a lot will also have a darker leathery tone in places (hands, elbows, knees) and people who are REALLY old are a little bit grayer (think the opposite of a blush)
Caleb Russell
Yeah the people who do the tumblr style of colouring go way too extreme, if they just toned it down and added some blues and greens to balence out the red then alot of the stuff they shit out would look much better
Dylan Powell
Hello, I'm back after another 3 months of lazyness (even if I did work, but on 3d models)
