Why are the people who make that whole "let creators make what they want instead of pandering to people outside their audience" argument so one-sided about it? I agree with that sentiment, but I find the hypocrisy a retarded. There was that whole controversy with Jordan Peele only wanting to have black protagonists in his movies, yet Tim Burton gets defended for not wanting non-white characters in his movies outside of villain roles. What gives?

You could have and honest and fruitful discussion about what artist "owe" their audience and representation as a whole, but more often than not whenever I see someone make this argument in the wild it's thinly veiled white id-pol.
