Redesign thread
Drawfag here, any ttips on making a good redesign?
Improve something cool about a regular design.
Like namor.
I am not an expect, but don't get too clingy to original design. Don't be afraid to change color scheme and silhoette. A lot of redesigns just slap a trenchcoat on character and call it a day, don't be like this.
Make it look cool and fitting for the character without overcomplicating the design.
Who dis?
A good redesign should be instantly recognizable, and often the less busy the better. Each character has certain core elements that should be retained, and tweaked to give it something new. For example, Batman will always have pointy ears, a belt, and a chest logo of a bat. Strong redesigns will often retain the usual color palette, but don't think that this a rule that can't be deviated from.
this for the most part
for most cape characters, the suit and the hair are the most noticeable and consistent things to a certain character. no two comic artists draw a character's face or physique the same unless its the likes of the Hulk or the Thing (which honestly fucking sucks and something i loathe), but they always draw the basics of the costume the same... unless they really fucking suck
so really just find what the most people consider "iconic" about this character
> Cyclops - the visor
> Magneto - gray hair and the helmet
> Power Girl - white leotard, short blonde hair, and the window
> Superman and Supergirl - the red, blue, and yellow color scheme and the pentagonal crest
and so on and so forth
have at least one of the most key elements and people can usually instantly recognize who the design is supposed to be
Why have they drawn Terry as a twink?
A really good design is often easily recognizable even if you draw it in a whole bunch of different styles.
Polaris
cover your female characters with baggy leather
Laira's GL: Emerald Knights design was way better than her comic design.
What the fuck am I looking at? This looks like absolute shit
That's a girl. Look at its hips and cardiobunny waist.
I love how this design has unique silhuette instead of being just another leotard chick. Ditch the nose ring and its perfect
bump
oh fuck you guys are right
let me fix that
on a serious note, was going for a more athletic and slim build on the original. terry always seemed more acrobatic, mobility, and gadget oriented than bruce, so a bigger build didn't seem right. should i bulk it up a bit?
>the pants
i like this one
jesus christ, what a way to overreact and overblow the whole thing, what the fuck
Nah dog you the one overreacting. HulkTerry is funny as hell
His gloves look like they've seen some shit.
I wouldn't say the build is off, you just gave him a big head for it.
love the animated version, but thought she could use more punk style like this one
artists can joke back at you too, anons
we're allowed to do that... at least i think we are. last few times i did people think i was assblasted and seemingly still think so
>that's supposed to be psylocke
jesus christ
Don't just add extra shit onto an existing design.
Whats wrong with it?
idk, maybe you're right. it's just a bit bizarre for me. like, he went from twink Terry to HulkTerry is just like going from 0 to 100 in a split second.
Nah, it's good. I mean, shit happens, people react differently. That's the fun of the mood spectrum.
Anyway, got more? I kinda want to see some characters... I mean, I've got some ideas, but those are probably commission tier that should be kept in dms. nothing like the usual drawthread spam, but most likely still uninspiring for the artists here to give a shit.
i feel like all the anons who saved cool redesigns and kept these threads going all left. this is the third or fourth one of these i've seen with barely any activity on it.
could dump all my own redesigns here but that just seems silly
not that user, but most likely its the hair. red and a different style than the more iconic black/purple most people are familiar with.
i get that its imitating kabuki theater with the color and style, but its just not fitting for the character, especially considering she's not technically asian
Not him but it doesn't much look like her.
Personally I like the sentiment but I don't think it's a good fit for the character.
It's a cool allusion to the Kabuki style character but it doesn't reall mesh well with her pre-existing character at all past "Japanese"
That was actually the inspiration behind this design, hence the ripped pants and the weird DJ hoodie. I'm actually really happy with how it turned out, unless you think the design is lacking in some areas.
Well unfortunately without new content we're basically doing the same shit over and over. So unless kind drawfags want to contribute this is about the extent of what you're going to get outside of posting the shit designs we've already shit on several times before.
I'm more than willing to dump my shit or pitch ideas for lesser known characters to get new looks
Hoodie needs to go.
So Spider logo ends on his BBC, right?
Based batchad
Love this look
Love the cape
Thats the best completely covered Supergirl redesign I've ever seen, it looks really cute and easy to move in. I would love to see more of your redesigns.
"So here's a character that spends 90% of his time doing high velocity flips and twists"
"Put a hoodie on him"
>Characters have spider sense that detects danger 90% of the time
>for some reason hoody is a problem
The issue is that the hoodie will fly off at the slightest provocation, dumdum. Also one of those is Nightcrawler.
I love the logo.
is this where I post a picture of oracle?
Getting into the character's head and history when designing it is important. You can fudge things a bit if you're doing an "original" take on a character, but understanding how form and function overlap is important. Why a character would wear X costume, how it compliments their skillset or not, the level of tech they have access to, ect.
tl;dr: If you're going to put Wonder Woman in biker gear, you better have a REALLY good excuse beyond "because women wear pants and tough chicks wear leather".
>peej
>pants
No thanks.
I'm not too keen on it either, but if she absolutely HAS to wear pants, you could do a lot worse.
I didn't draw it. Though the user who did, does lurk here
I hate and like it at the same time
It counts
You were going for athletic and slim but you gave him a woman's body instead. His pelvis is too big and his ribcage too small.
Well for starters, Betsy Braddock is British. Why is she dressing like a complete weeb?
Jim is best human torch
Totally using shadow spider for my rogue's profile picture.
out of all the redesigns ive done, everyone seems to like this one best.
god, wish i could strike gold like that all the time
heyo
couldnt tell who it was until i saw the emblem at the base of the fishbowl, but damn do i love that cape. might work better with a purer white instead of the grey
gotcha. admittedly been drawing far too many girls and odd proportions, so male anatomy is a bit rusty now. might attempt to practice a bit if this thread can last or a WOYA batman thread pops up
Brainwashing and a little bit of the previous owner kicking around in her head
Can you redesign Killer Moth? I like your style.
Hiya friend! Would you be up for some practice? If not thats alright.
a few aprils
forgot to respond, but yea yours is great. only thing i'd add is the lightning bolt neckline. aside from her color palette, its the most striking thing about her design and most memorable
always appreciated the killer moth responses to my own moth girls, so i feel like i owe it to him
though April 1st is upon us. if its anything like last year, i may be busy, so no promises
>Take away V2's stirrup socks
Why would you do this?
Might I suggest a Batgirl redesign too? It seems that even after so many looks not a lot of them have hit the mark.
Keep the essentials, but don’t get hung up on the details of the original design. You can have Superman’s Sheild, but the size and it’s colors are for you to decide.
also, don’t complicate the design too much.
REQUEST!
Someone please draw thigh high boots onto this that fade to white near the top like the arms do.
Many thanks!
Same as these just with the white fade.
Yeah I love Jim. He's a good boy.
Heh. What have we here?
Somehow not the worst Riddler design I've ever seen and that makes me sad
That's not much of a redesign
*blocks your path*
Also, wanna see me summon a gaggle of The Batman apologists?
I dig red haired one
I just realized most Cyborg looks are ass
Love it
Looks wonky how does he even walk?
If this was a way to make him look more alien why don't they just go with this instead? At least make him look more speculative.
HOLY SHIT! This one is my favorite. Not ashamed of the old design but still makes it better. Absolutely based, user
As an outfit for Scarecrow I think this is ass.
But it's a really great outfit to give to his henchmen, the Strawmen.
And capes would probably get ripped off in a fight, yet superheroes manage to keep those things glued on to their back somehow.
I love that SG
Chubby and little silly but you know can wipe the floor with your ass
I think the obvious Riddler design artist keep missing out on is question mark glasses. The lens frame would be round, like the bottom of the punctuation, and the top of the ? would wrap around his ears. It's not only dorky looking, but a happy medium between glasses and mask
Alex Ross did something like this in that Justice mini
Noice.
Thanks dude, even if you can’t get around to it I like seeing your art. You’ve got a good idea of what works with redesigns.
I'm always game for Ivy designs that show more her scientist side. It's a side that I think it's overlooked most of the times, at least when it comes to designs
Agree. I also prefer Ivy redesigns that play around with her as a monster in woman form.
I probably would like the character a little better if either of these aspects were played up more in canon.
Monster-in-woman-form serves up better for apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic AUs, you know, when everything is lost and nothing matters anymore because the world is fucked. As is it doesn't work so well in normal stories.
>Monster-in-woman-form serves up better for apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic AUs
Maybe, but it's something I think could work just fine in regular canon.
>it doesn't work so well in normal stories.
Poison Ivy stories are so tedious they might as well do something to shake things up a bit
The suit is absolutely awful. But I enjoy the red eyes a lot.
