What's the last completely new Big 2 character (no direct relation to previous character even by just name) that managed to succeed and stand the test of time?

Define "stand the test of time". 10 years? 5? 20?
10 sounds about right if they were used consistently during that time, 20 if it was sparingly.
Harley Quinn? Or does she not count because she's "related to Joker"?
I'd say she doesn't count, because yeah, she was made for the Joker.
Damien Wayne?
Spider-Man Noir?
Oh, IC no legacy.
Professor Pyg
Probably the Runaways?
Deadpool.
Livewire
Amadeus Cho
Vulcan had a good run and Hickman seems intent on bringing him back?
Jamie Reyes has to be up there. Other potential candidates in the 10-20 year range are X-23, Damian Wayne, Larfleeze.
Miles Morales
>Amadeus Cho
nice call, probably this
The young avengers kids? They all pop up regularly.
I think he's asking for unrelated/non-legacy characters in the OP.
Amadeus Cho eventually becomes a Hulk, but he might count.
Professor Pyg is completely original, has been in comics, vidya and television(?), he's the most likely. If the OP is trying to make some point that the Big 2 milk their existing IPs, or that Big 2 fanboys don't buy new shit, well duh.
Looking at this page:

It seems the 1980's were the last time DC managed to create some lasting new superheroes who weren't derivative of existing characters. Half of the New Teen Titans, Vixen, Lobo, Katana, and Booster Gold were all created in that decade.
All the new superheroes they created in the 90's were either a derivative or instantly forgotten. The one exception is Static, but I'm not sure if you're counting him since he wasn't created to be a DC Universe character.
Marvel had some better luck in the 90's, primarily due to the massive popularity of their X-Men brand at that time. Gambit and Bishop were created in this decade.
The 00's aren't looking promising for either universe on that front. Sentry, of all people, may end up being the most successful non-derivative character of that decade.
>Another robin
>Literally peter parker
Refer to OP again
Does Kamala count? I mean I know she's sorta a legacy hero but she honestly has almost nothing to do with Carol at all
I would say Static.
Static counts as much as Captain Marvel (Fawcett).
>Has stood the test of time
I fucking love Static and would be overjoyed at him being used again but he's basically in limbo right now and has been for a while
Does Terry Wayne from Batman Begins count?
What about Jinx from the cartoon? Isn't she totally different from the comic book one?
>Deadpool.
Got his powers from Wolverine's DNA, so kind of a borderline case. I'll let OP be the judge.
>Jamie Reyes
Legacy identity.
>X-23
Literally a clone of Wolverine.
>Damian Wayne
Legacy identity and literal relative of Batman AND the al Ghul family. If there's anyone who doesn't count, it's him.
>Larfleeze
"Green Lantern, but a different color" probably doesn't count.
>Miles Morales
Alt-universe Spider-Man.
He said names count in the OP, so I guess not.
I guess that's true, but fans still like him a lot. He's just not a hot property.
>>Deadpool.
>Got his powers from Wolverine's DNA, so kind of a borderline case.
also sort of a Deathstroke ripoff
Sideways
Probably yeah. They have a dedicated fanbase, characters keep popping up despite lack of sales, got a la adaptation that's made it to S3. They're a good choice.
Not OP but I feel like Wade should still count, the Wolverine additions came later, so it's not like he was designed as a legacy or tethered to Logan like some of the other characters listed.
Squirrel Girl. She's not even a peripheral character to anyone.
(I want to be wrong.)
MAS Y MENOS SI PODEMOS!
But in all seriousness, probably Atrocitus
I hate those fuckers, they're such a bad charicature, shit borderline disrespectful
Are you white?
Squirrel Girl's first appearance was in a Steve Ditko story parodying Silver Age wackiness back in the early 90s.
She was dug up by Dan Slott in 2005 (back when he could still write) and turned into a living meme which Yea Forums fucking loved and made mountains of OC for.
Then in 2015 we got some monkey's paw shit going on and now she's the horrifying social justice weirdo we all know and hate.
Are you?
Runaways.
>also sort of a Deathstroke ripoff
If we disqualify based on that criteria, then no character from the 30's to now counts.
Jessica Jones?
He's in limbo but has a fanbase. The issue is more DC and Milestone not able to come to a deal.
The Court of Owls?
