I'm confused by this being an L for R in the first place. Isn't the stereotype (that seems to be fairly true) that many Asian countries have a very hard time pronouncing the L sound and instead use an R instead? Like this is the exact opposite.

From what I've seen with stereotypical accents, Chinese characters switch the R for an L, while the Japanese switch the L for an R. I have no idea about Koreans or other East Asians.

it's moreso that L and R are often interchangeable in chinese inspired languages
like the chinese word for hot can be pronounced 'Luh' or 'Ruh', interchangeably, although luh sounds more assertive and ruh sounds softer.
it's a tonal language, so you have to find ways of conveying tone that are different from actually changing the tone.
the really odd thing is how consistent the switching is. it doesn't seem random, and it takes a conscious effort to resist pronouncing rs as ls and ls as rs, so there must be something about how the l and r sounds are oriented in english phraseology that is diametrically opposed to how they appear in asian languages.
i'm chinese american of cantonese descent and i laughed at this too.
it's so stupid that it's brilliant. i literally know people who look like this, although none of them are a giant, 80 foot egg.

It's dependent on the type of L or R. English uses different phonetic types of Ls and Rs to the Chinese. They're not used to moving their tongue in the ways that we do and vice versa.
