This game was so fucking hard for me as a kid. I never unlocked like three quarters of the characters. I knew I had DD though because he was my favorite character as a kid.
Tried emulating this a few times but it never works.

I remember being so freaked out over the opening because you had niggas dead ass dying in the intro for no reason.
They even had a tie in. I don't know what they expected to come of this. They even had some OC character to become the main character of the story but I didn't necessarily realize this was *her* story since I was a fair bit younger. I'm playing story mode trying to figure out "who is this bitch and why am I playing as her to handle the last boss?"

Because it was critically panned by the gaming world for the most part. Multi-platform and a comic, some big investments for something that left a bad taste in most peoples mouths. I imagine they don't want to deal with the stigma by paying the characters *too* much attention.
That or character rights with EA or whatever.
To be fair though, characters die all the time in the main universe itself so what's that mean?

I might need to give it another run through to feel it with brand new hands but honestly, thinking about it now the best way my memory can describe it is a much looser version of the Arkham games if that makes any sense.
One move always seemed to toss your character halfway across the screen.

It's one of the most unbalanced fighters I've ever played, so that fear is certainly warranted.
I remember picking this up because kids at school said it was good, and then wondering how they came to that conclusion.
Man I missed Johnny Ohm, what a great character. Iron Man and Venom were stupidly strong in this game though, most OP characters. I played the fuck out of this as a kid, unlocked everything and still kept playing.
I love how they never explain who Bullseye even is
They had different weight classes like the Injustice games, but it basically only mattered for what items in the environment you could pick up and through, or catch when thrown at you. It boils down to if you can handle cars or not, and if not then good fucking lick because they're too big to dodge and deal a ton of damage. Object throwing was a big part of this game.
Besides lightweight/heavyweight you had flying/swinging/walking characters. Swinging is fastest but you can only attack midair between swings, flying is obviously best, since you can hover and attack, making Iron Man stupidly good and characters like Storm pretty good (she wasnt a heavyweight like Iron Man is, but they both fly and are both ranged) Oh also Ranged/Melee was another distinction. If you're unlucky enough to be Wolverine who was a walking, melee, mediumweight character, you're fucking screwed. I remember Johnny Ohm was unique because he damaged people he was flying above, and was also a ranged lightweight so he was fun and balanced.

I love how there are 0 tips for the Paragon missions because they know exactly how bullshit she is and that you wont need any help.
I used to use Iron Man and this level whenever someone was getting too cocky. Just hover in the middle and there is no cover anywhere from the huge damage repulsor rays, and when out of energy just land and throw cars while there is still no cover. Fucking nothing stops him here.

This was definitely the Magneto stage, just hang out in the regeneration chamber and use the ranged throw he gets to chuck the bombs that constantly spawn at the enemy. The 2nd floor is decent cover but you can just fuckin fly up and then it isn't.
Are you going to upload the in-game artwork? Each Imperfect defeating a Marvel hero had one, been looking for those for a while now.
Wasnt Van Roekel also a flying character? Any idea what made him so much worse than Iron Man? Same for Solara, and i think i remember her being able to lift cars too.
I actually really enjoyed this game back then, but i don't remember too much. The Heroes being defeated/killed by the literal whos left a sour taste in my mouth, although i didn't mind the intro cutscene as much since i wasn't the one being forced to kill the heroes.
Roekel was just slow as all fuck. His throws are slow despite being a heavyweight, his flight rise was slow so you couldn't get away to do stuff in the air, his recharge had an extra 15 frames or so of windup so even that was slow. He had a good core but always struggled to get it off. Plus his ranged attacks only staggered while Iron Mans dealt huge knockback which set you up for multiple ranged attacks in a row.

Alright, thanks. So he was basically a more balanced Iron Man, in a game with the actual Iron Man and characters that could exploit his downsides too much.

I remember being pretty sad when i unlocked those missions the first time. I thought i had unlocked a special mission the first time and picked The Thing since i really enjoyed beating the shit out of cannon fodder with him.
Then i got a lengthy sequence about a girl i never saw before that i barely understood (English isn't my first language), kill Ben with this weird chick and get an artwork of him being impaled by her.
The ending shows them as heroes, dummy. Not to mention it's pretty obvious EA were hoping they would take off.
That's a good way to put it yeah. If you had Roekel against a melee only character or someone with high energy costs that couldnt always be attacking then he could shine, but it was just too easy to keep him down for everyone else.
Magneto was so OP it was ridiculous, he could grab you from the other side of the map.
Johnny Ohm is literally a death row inmate for multiple murders.
Fuck yeah he could, it was bullshit. He could catch a car you threw when it was only an inch from your hand, and throw it back at you from there so you couldnt react, all from the other side of the map. Only thing is when he's out of energy he's nothing, but the match was usually over before then because he was bullshit.
I didn't say the narrative made sense. In fact, that's pretty much my original complaint.

Every character has an energy meter to use stronger moves. For most characters it makes sense but for some they had to make shit up, wolverine uses his energy to use his claws. iirc he gets Rage pretty fast, which has infinite energy while it's up, so you can do these really quick leaping claw slashes on repeat then. But then again, just play Iron Man for infinite flight, missiles, and repulsors while in rage.

I am pretty sure Magneto is killed, but the others aren't too clear. We fight The Thing under mind control, so it is implied he was captured, but it is also possible he gets killed at a later point canonically since you don't have to do the mission where you beat him until way late in the game, if at all
But doesn't that actually happen to several characters? I recall some missions being brainwashed hero vs hero.

The legitimately confirmed deaths i recall are Magneto, Captain America and Hulk. Venom seemed implied too given his defeat artwork is Hazmat forcing acid down his throat.
Well, we see Hulk reverting to Bruce Banner under a pile of rubble, and he is never heard from again, so it really seems like he is dead.
Pretty sure you see a hulk hand sticking out from under rubble that turns human then goes limp.
Dr. Doom is the other new playable character. They replace Daredevil and the Human Torch.
The graphics were more cartoony as well, they even used Terry Dodson art instead of Jae Lee.

I would agree on the grounds that shes an all around good character, but if any of the other S tier characters can put her in their area of focus then they still win. Paragon is maaaaaaybe S+ because she wins like 51/100 times against other S tiers.
My "favorite" part of the game is when you hit someone hard enough to throw them away and the camera shifts and does a "cinematic take" that completely halts the game and disorients you in the middle of combat.

I have two copies for the PS2. One was bought when the game had just come out and the other a year or two ago because I forgot I still had the game.
I once bought an empty case of Catwoman for the Gamecube because I owned a different game that had the disc, manual, and cover but needed a case.
I then threw the Catwoman cover to the trash.

Fun fact: Hazmat appeared by accident in a group panel. The script meant the Hazmat from Avengers Academy, but when the artist looked it up they found the Nemesis version and no one caught it.
Also during this it was discovered Marvel does own the Nemesis characters.
