Adi Shankar has his greasy little hands in every animated video game adaptation, probably trying to recreate the success of the Castlevania series.

Yeah but HLD is seriously scraping the bottom of the barrel. I don't know how good the game was, but barely anyone knows of it.

I'm fine with the game not telling a lot and leaving me with my questions and speculations.
If the cartoon is all about answers, I won't tune in.

I have no idea what this is but I'd sooner watch a Slime Rancher animated series over this.

Well, that just gives them more creative freedom to play with. Plus, fewer buttmad fanboys to call them cucks later.

What's the point of adapting existing IP if you have no brand recognition for it and you don't intend to be faithful to it anyway?

I wonder if they are going to pander to feminists again and make the drifter female

Rad

we /indie/ nao

someone post nikos

>Adi shaknar
Hit or miss

For fucking real? I don't know how to feel about this.

It was very good, but in a way that's wholly unique to videogames. It doesn't have any dialog or text, and conveys everything through visuals. The real strength of the game is the sense of exploration and discovery; so unless they plan on going full Samurai Jack, I can't really see this being a faithful adaptation.

>unless they plan on going full Samurai Jack
i bet synthwave samurai jack is probably the way they'll go.

Interesting setting can get the creative juices flowing. It will probably be as soulless as disenchanted, but we'll see.

>Slime Rancher animated series
Someone should do it.

God I hope so. That would be an amazing thing to watch if they managed to get it right.

undertale when?

Adi Shankar is such a faggot
Ill never forgive him for the bullshit he pulled with Apu, the douche even tried to make it sound like he was trying to help the Simpsons producers with "their problem" when he was the person doing the most to create the nontroversy.

Thats how it should be. But I've been burned before user ;_;

A proper way to do it would be part synthwave Samurai Jack, part Texhnolyze. But Netflix doesn't have the balls to do something as art-house as this.

Man, the cutscenes in HLD are absolute kino. You can't make an animated series in this style though, Angel's Egg is an hour long but already stretches it.

>Yeah but HLD
Very pretty
Extremely pretty
And has a lot of sound porn
If the effort is genuine, it could be a 10/10 show going far beyond Samurai Jack.
But who are we kidding? Most likely not

Angel Egg is stretching it because its barely 10-15 minutes of content stretched to a hour.
And its so self pretentious that its only watchable if you are high on Noah, various parts of Gnosticism, and a few other components.

I hope other indies get animated adaptions.

oh shit, I hope it doesnt have talking in it, cuz this fucking series was really cool

Holy shit, i really hope they will do something good, the game was amazing.

What does Yea Forums think of the trailer for Heart Machine's new game? youtube.com/watch?v=vKxk_dPskpU

I liked pixels better, but this looks pretty. We'll see what's up when more trailers come out and shit.

>not Boktai which it totally ripped off
Boooo

Well that just looks like HLD but in flat-shaded 3D

That's my point, if you try to apply the style of HLD's intro cutscene to long form animation, you'll end up with an overly long pile of pretentiousness.

I prefer studios picking up an obscure IP and do whatever the hell with it than rehashing same properties that don't really add anything or do something different

>hyper light drifter
what?
>Alx Preston
who?
>Castlevania's Adi Shankar
is this the motherfucker who doesn't like Grant?

Holy bitch Adi is on a roll with these adapations.

>synthwave samurai jack
So furi

grantfags are still mad lmao

Weird. Game was outrageously mediocre.

Shankar is not going to rest until he has the rights to every video game adaptation.

What is this thing?

But its easy to adapt.

>make successful 2d game
>fall for the 3d meme
Not again

>EGS
Guess my vote for GOG meant nothing.

Better than making a rehash like most indies do. Besides, top-down isn't so far from 3D.

You're outrageously mediocre.

Anything is easy to adapt if you don't give a shit.

>scraping the bottom of the barrel
It's a fucking amazing game
>IP if you have no brand recognition for it and you don't intend to be faithful to it anyway
The creator of the game is working on it
Congratulations you entered a thread about a cartoon in production and made a post about not knowing the source material instead of just using a search engine one tab away. This is a really clever post and your (you) is well deserved

>Furi animated miniseries
I'd buy that for a dollar.

>HLD is seriously scraping the bottom of the barrel
lol

I could see them doing a 4-8 episode series. It wouldn't work as a long running show, but I think as a short form series, it could be good.

>Success of castlevania series

Its been exceptionally successful.

it's a good game, but it's bizarre that a smaller title would get a series before Shovel Knight or Cuphead

>I don't like it so it's not successful
Great "logic"

that's an entire-anus yikes from me, senpai

>castlevania series

>It doesn't have any dialog or text, and conveys everything through visuals
Not impossible, there are plenty of cartoons without dialogue or text. Shining example that comes to mind is Aeon Flux.

HLD is great but I'd rather a Dead Cells series with this animation

I hate how Dark Souls gave birth to this fad of minimalist storytelling in vidya, I'm too much of a brainlet to understand the story in games like this without checking the wiki

Attached: brainlet.jpg (874x684, 79K)

I don't think his gender is ever specified in the game

Cup Head seems like a good choice until you remember that no official adaptation will ever look as good as the actual game unless some serious money is pumped into the budget. I can't really imagine may studios wanting to be the ones to try and tackle that particular hurdle.

The problem is that it couldn't work, but that it takes a very special kind of creator to make it work. Look at what happened to Aeon Flux once it was turned int a movie. hat's the kind of thing I worry about when something like this gets targeted for adaptation.

I like it, but some games do it better than others. Much as I love Hollow Knight, for example, I didn't know what the fuck was going on until after a beat the game and looked up the story online.

I think the appeal of this kind of storytelling is that people that don't care for the plot can simply rush through the game without thinking about it, while people that care for the plot can have a feeling of satisfaction when they put all puzzle pieces together

Dead Cells series would be pretty hype

Really? Hollow Knight didn't seem too hard to figure out though I guess it depends if you find the stuff to fill ya in at the right times.

remember when Mighty No. 9 almost had an animated series

youtu.be/ys8pj2EY-n8

Damn, I love the game. The atmosphere and graphic/sound design is top notch, but I don't know how well it'll translate into a show. If they stay true to the game, especially if they don't talk, I'd be so hyped.

I can imagine it working without voiced dialogue if it is short episodes like Sonic Mania Adventures

>I hate how Dark Souls gave birth to this fad of minimalist storytelling in vidya,
Honestly it's probably my favorite thing in game storytelling. That's not to say I can't still love a story that's spoonfed to me if it's good but something about just letting the world speak for itself really gets me going.

I understood it on a very surface level, but a lot of the context was lost on me until well after my first play through.
Still love it though.

Closest we'll get to a Soulsborne animated adaptation

It's time

>HLD gets a series before Shantae
Literally leaving money on the table.

Who gives a fuck about Shantae.

>Literally any indie getting a TV series instead of Shovel Knight, Undertale or Shantae
Happy for the Drifter, BUT IT'S JUST UNFAIR
I can understand that Shantae's appeal makes it more suitable for an anime but WHAT THE HELL, GIMME DAT SK OR UT OP

>Undertale
Toby isn't stupid enough to have another form of actual content, merch makes more money without the fear of harming the brand if things go wrong.
>Shovel Knight
Yacht Club is busy and it doesn't fit the in trend of 80s neon stuff.

An Undertale cartoon adaptation sounds terrible, but I am up to seeing something with Nuclear Throne or even Hollow Knight .
