Longform storytelling, more compelling characters, (the fuck happened to Elfo after episode one?), better comedic timing.

I think the netflix "dump a whole season at once" format hurt it more than anything. That format works great for stuff like docuseries or things that are basically a miniseries like Stranger Things but not every show is suitable for the format.

The sound editing for starts. How do you even fuck this up in this day and age?

Flick bean

Cowabunga dude!

Keep Elfo dead but they won't so its fucked

it wasn't bad, just very underwhelming. People wen in expecting "if futurama was medieval fantasy instead of sci fi" and it failed to live up to the same quality and humor Futurama did.

had its moments but was ultimately meh

Add to that the animation movement pacing often feels sluggish, making action scenes feel less tense, and visual gags lack the punch they should have.

Who animated it anyway. I noticed it seemed sluggish in the few clips that I saw.

It was just mediocre. It couldn't decide if it wanted linear storytelling or if it wanted to be Ye Olde Futurama. It either needs to focus on jokes or on the plot, not both.

Sound mixing was god awful and animation could be janky. Pay someone decent instead of outsourcing everything to North Korea.

Have Elfo either die or do something meaningful.

It was bad at the start, but by about episode 7 or so it started to settle in well. The problem being it took 7 episodes to do it instead of 2-3.

I liked it. I don't think it's fair to compare it to futurama. It's a new show, it'll hit it's stride after a few seasons.
It definitely improved as it went on and im looking forward to it getting better as it continues on.

more/funnier jokes.

shit sucks.
how to fix: show more boob and have characters whine and complain less.

Hated Elfo and Bean.

I felt it was neither bad or good, it was just a thing. No purpose, no direction, just a half thought up idea that barely went anymore. It's a shame too, i did like the fantasy universe they were living in.

Somehow, the King became the funniest character as well as the one I looked most forward to seeing since his character stayed more consistent than everyone else's.

I don't know what happened with Elfo. They should have kept him more like how he was before he got kicked out of the Elf Village, but it's too late now.

Might get better if they expand the main cast a bit like the planet express crew.

I liked it as it was

So fucking confusing and pointless.

Almost none of the humor was funny. Elfo started out having a fucking point but turned out being a contradiction and not in a good way like they forgot what character development was. The demon is just Bender, fucking blatantly. The girl is a more tragic Fry with her tits out. The whole goddamned this is lazy.

The most interesting character is the king's wife, who gets ruined. The king becomes more redeemable/interesting, before the whole show abruptly ends and we all stop caring.

Have bean get raped like in Nstat34's parodies of The Simpsons and Futurama women

I actually enjoyed Disenchantment, and Luci was unironically pretty funny most of the time.

This. King Zog was pretty hilarious.

that's probably because he was the only character with mixed emotions and overall normal human characteristics that changed or grew a little based on his position as king and problems with his daughter. Everyone else was a one trick pony character type, simple and bland.

problem is The princess the demon and the elfo.
They are what's wrong with the series.
Elfo at first seemed like a rebel who was bored then turned total bitch boy.
The demon was nothing special and his catch phrase "do it do it do it" was weak and very unoriginal.
The princess well, she is an alcoholic, but looking at it, her problems arent that big of problems.
The Ensemble was what the show needs and is funny. The main characters needs to be reworked.
The show doesnt do much of a parody like futurama did.

decent world for such a tired concept, though that limits the types of jokes they can make

I dunno the elfo and bean and her demon were the most bland of them all.

Who just wants a show about the adventures of Crownless King Zog as he grumplily tries to take over a new land?

More fanservice like Futurama.

Bean takes her top off in like the first episode
there was that whole segment where she's talking to the camera practicing asking someone to dance

>Was disenchantment that bad?
Yes, all the characters are bad and uninteresting, the main character especially, you supposed to like her but all she does is come across as a spoiled brat who is just rebelling because shes a spoiled brat, she makes mention about how killing or some shit is wrong at one point completely forgetting shes let others die constantly. By the end of Season 1 shes suddenly something special, wowyzowy.

>How do we fix it?
By no longer making it.

It made me actually care when Elfo died when I thought he would be the character I'd hate the most going in
really I found most of the main cast more compelling than I was expecting based on my first impressions on them

Add Nudity!!!

>How do we fix it?
timing. holy shit, timing. Also more embitions maybe? Futurama already pushed many aspect of that show further, no need to hold the blows when it comes to violence, titties, or whatever.

They never show her naked butt like Leela's.

I'd like it a lot more if the third group member was the pig prince and not the shitty unfunny elf

Did you forget how Fry was the only human that could stand up to the Big Brain? He saved the universe like four times because he was special, either by being stupid or by being his own grandfather. The show wasn't worse off for it.

Bad is a strong word.
Really, really dull is a better way to describe it.

>I woukd rather die a big death than live a small life

What happened to Elfo?

Drop the simpson style

It kinda rubbed me the wrong way how they tried to make it so that you'd want to side with Bean on the whole "arranged marriage" despite at the same time also making jokes about how fucking awful life is for everyone who isn't royal in the kingdom, and also how arranged marriages do make things better for everyone (ie. alliance with the lizard people kingdom thanks to the king's new wife)

She's like the epitome of the white girl who thinks she's opressed when she's clearly the most priviledged character, except they didn't do it on purpose and don't realise they're even doing it.

Fry was a character who was likeable, Bean is just an asshole who tries to get her husband to be murdered.

I dont remember an episode where Fry tried having his girlfriend killed.

we see her bathing, we see her naked from a chandelier, we see THIS

those are fucking screen caps of the show unedited on a r34 website. what more do you want?

This is the culmination of Matt Groening's career and industry connections he's garnered over thirty years

Aside from the aesthetic stuff like animation and sound design, it just felt passionless.

Futurama had all these math majors and sci-fi geeks working on it and that reflected in the humor. To make an effective genre parody, you need a deep love and understanding for the thing you're parodying. I don't think Matt Groening or anyone who made this really gave a fuck about fantasy, like the idea was more "let's make a show like Futurama where it's fantasy instead of sci-fi".

futurama was pretty meh in the beggining.

groenig takes time to build up to greatness.

>Was Disenchantment that bad?
It had a lot of potential and capitalized on none of it until literally the last episode of the season.
>How do we fix it?
Keep Elfo dead for starters

full frontal nudity

As far as season one of a Groening show goes, this is pretty good desu. Futurama and Simpsons both sucked at first, and hit their stride after a season or two

>implying the sound design wasn’t also passionless
The music was great, though.

youtube.com/watch?v=EBXDXHOUbWc

>This

Admittedly it wasn't very great with the first season. But i'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and see where this actually goes.

I hate binge culture, so I already make sure I only watch 1 or 2 episodes of something a day. Usually before going to bed. One watching netflix could make the decision to not watch it all at once, the freedom is there

>I don' know how this was supposed to work

Simpsons and Futurama both needed at least two seasons to start bring the goods. I'd argue the Simpsons only really started to soar in season 3. I'll give this another season to figure out what it wants to be. With that being said Elfo needs priority, his character jumps wildly between confident adventurer, naive moron or lovelorn pussy. Just fucking pick one and get to work. Everyone else are fine really, just need better jokes which hopefully now that the world and characters have been generally established they can focus on. They really need at least a couple of great episodes next season though or I'll begin to check out.

Not that guy but I like Bean more than Fry. Fry was always a bit too much of a victim for me

>how do we fix X
I don't know why but these sorts of posts always piss me off
