Man this comic fucking sucks. I'm a huge Alien and Gibson fan and I've heard of his aborted script so I had such high hopes. The art here is just horrendous and it's absurdly overly wordy because someone here has no clue how to adapt a movie script to a comic without massive text blocks.
Mignola's Salvation and Dead Orbits are still the only good Alien comics. I'm not sure why they keep hiring awful artists when Alien is such a visual movie.

You can see why it never made it to media. It has no plot beyond the xenomorphs attacking people again. As opposed to Ripley's story of waking up to a destroyed life and finding a new one by protecting an analogous, fucked up family.
A lot of the characters in this one sort of just trail off, and have no point to them.

Focusing on Ripley was one of the series' mistakes. It should have focused on neither her nor the xenos, but instead have been an anthology type of thing where every movie was a self-contained story set in the Alien universe. Prometheus actually had the right idea in this regard, too bad the execution wasn't there.

He really is not man. His scene construction is so fucking garbage as are his figures. It looks like he draws the figures and then puts them into scenes with photoshop. They dominate every panel and are stiff as fuck. Backgrounds are obvious stock poser CGI in a lot of spots too. And just stylistically he was a horrendous choice for an alien book. Colorist did him no favors either.

If you seriously mean the transformation she and the Tully character (the guy who freezes himself) were caught in a lab accident. The alien tissue released by the lab accident transformed them into modified xenos. Apparently their bite is also infectious since the dude who got his leg chewed on started mutating. Gotta wonder what would happen if one of these mutant xenos bit a regular xeno. Xeno squared? Divide by zero?

Alien sequels all have broadly the same problem in that the alien is as much about the threat of the unknown as it is the creature itself. After the first movie that threat is diminished because now we know what the alien is capable of.
Aliens compensates by adding a lot more aliens and by not trying to be a horror film but most writers simply make the alien more powerful or give it new abilities as if it were Godzilla or the Hulk.

This sub-plot is so fucking played out, and it doesn't even make sense after Aliens. "The adult form is evidentally a killing machine of great strength and sophistication". Uh, for every one marine that died on the planet a dozen fucking xenomorphs went first? Vasquez physically pinned one to a wall and executed it? The Company's fascination from xenomorphs has never made sense. It's just a recyclable CAPITALISM BAD plot-point.

Of course it makes sense. They're killing systems you can grow in jig time and come ready armed with an array of nasty weapons and murderous instinct. You don't even need to sacrifice people to make them (which someone really should have told those idiots in Resurrection).
You could make an army. Or just drop one onto an enemy world or sneak one aboard a station and let it get to work. Really the control mechanism is what eluded them.

Alright is it me or is this comic just all over the place? It's pacing is fucking chaotic and clustered to shit and the story really isn't wowing me here. There's far too much dialogue for what little is actually explained or relevant and it feels like half the panels were just chucked in to fill space. I didn't think it was possible for an Alien story to be less interesting than Alien: Harvest was and yet here we are.

The pacing is the worst part without a doubt. That has been the consistent issue in the miniseries since the start and it never got any better. But I can't tell if that's Gibson's fault or if it's the script writer's fault (remember, Gibson technically didn't write this comic, just the screenplay that it's "based on").

This really could of used an issue or two more to help the pacing. They put act 3 in what, all if one issue?
From the script they left out the scene of Hicks and Bishop outside the station in space suits fighting off the xenos before the commie chick comes in to save them. Would of likes to see that on the page.

To be fair it appears that they created this new strain in the lab. Took samples of Alien genetic material, fed it raw DNA, and dumped the result in a nutrient bath to watch it grow. In a strange way it's actually right up there with the existing lore. The aliens take on something of the characteristics of their host. In this case the "host" was artificial. The resulting Xeno could be said to have adapted/adopted the ol' genetic infiltration method, behaving more like a virus. The resulting creature is mostly xenomorph because that was the primary alien DNA source. Of course the original alien had...something. Some method for turning people into either eggs or "the yolk", not that the difference matters much, but yeah some kind of transformative "infection" that fucks up the captives.
It's a huge coincidence otherwise. Based on the script the tiny egg thing created in the Anchorpoint lab, when opened during the accident, released a puff of blackness that infected the humans present. Rather like the puffball things from Covenant. The overall nature of the Xenos as ancient bioweapons has been around forever, but the way their genetic material behaves in this is extremely close to the black goop.
I think they just wanted to emphasize that the eyes are functional, that this isn't just some vestigial element left over from the host. It's a new lifeform, though still largely Xenomorph in form and function, but not entirely in nature.
