It's honestly more of an homage to Planet of the Apes.

The first issue could be considered "Rise", the second "Conquest" and so on.
And it's a very good homage.

To Leader-1's fate being kinda similar to the original plans for original series Ceasar's fate.

Reminds me of the GI Joe/Transformers comic. Is it the same team? The art style is similar, and the sort of reinterpretation/twists reminds me of it as well.
Midway through issue 4 now. This series makes me uncomfortable, bc of uncanny valley and the dystopian violence. A pretty kino series. Did Scooter talk like Wheelie in the show? Wasn't there a female Renegade, Crasher/Clasher? What's the name of the good guys' base? The one that opens up? Seems like it'd be a fun toy.

Not that familiar with the Apes series, I wasn't expecting him to go down this route though.

Yeah, Scioli did the art for that and I think co-wrote it.

And yeah, this series, while not perfect, is just really unnervingly sobering and somber at times. It really is kinda unforgettable now.

You should definitely check out the original Planet of the Apes stuff. It's kinda fun how Scioli plays with those ideas, and I have to feel like it was another in-joke like a lot of his stories.

I suppose nothing can top TF vs GIJ, but this was a fun ride. Kind of a downer ending, though.

I like to think of it as bittersweet, although definitely more bitter.

The world is destined to be doomed by the Go-Bot revolution, and Leader-1 devolved into a despot and later recombined into Starscream...

But human beings and Go-Bots learn to live side-by-side, Leader-1's soul passes onto to a presumably happy afterlife, and the Go-Bots survive into the future as a race with their own will.

Jesus, for 5 issues Scioli packed in a lot of pathos.

A big chunk of tf vs gi joe's charm was taking a crap ton of both franchises history and screwing with it and then some.
While gobots has that, it's a much shallower pool to dip into and the story is much more serious.

Depends on how time travel works in this universe, I suppose. Still, I kinda preferred issues 1 and 2, before it became a Planet of the Apes homage, so in a way I'm glad.

The first two issues are pretty heavy homages to Conquest and Rise, but I get what you mean.

Yeah, definitely. It could make for a stable series, really. Guardians vs Renegades fighting over man's fate. Like Transformers, but more grounded and with humanity having a much bigger stake.

Most artistic page in the entire lot. Crammed as much panels as possible and thanks to the isometric layout, it doesn't feel cramped.

It's cheaper and more efficient to use a natural brain as the base for an AI rather than try and make one out of metal and chips.

The simple answer is even more complex (artificial brain)than the difficult one (full AI). I swear this sounds like a Futurama joke.

I took it as an oblique reference to R.U.R., sorta the forebear to robot revolution fiction - with the robots in that being fully physiological beings, made out of some sort of unidentified material IIRC

they only sold the molds to the toys, they still own it as an IP, including the cartoon

Inhumanoids apparently has some copyright issues with Marvel, while with Battle Beasts they let their trademarks for it expire, so they would have to come up with a new name for it, though they have used the Battle Beasts in TF media before(they showed up in one of the older GI Joe/Transformers crossovers and also had a reference to them pop up in the Allspark Almanac)

I actually like Go-Bots a lot. I'm an old school Trafsformers fan who didn't know of its existence until relatively recently, but watching it I feel like it's actually better written than G1. The human characters in particular are more developed and well integrated into the story, and the stories themselves are pretty good and I'd argue more engaging and less "toyetic" than Transformers.

Where Go-Bots falls down is in design and VA work - It looks and sounds dated even for the time it was made, if someone had shown it to me blind and asked me when I thought it was made, I would have said at least a decade earlier than it actually was. G1 looks pretty slick by comparison, neither the design of the toys or the Go-bots cartoon characters was very good.
