Love Death and Robots

So Yea Forums, what's your opinion on love death and robots besides the moments of unnecesary edge or nudity i think it was pretty great, wish most of these shorts had full series of their own.

Extremely heterogeneous. Best episode was Zima Blue by far.

Aquila Rift was great as a demo and with the cool directing. But the pacing was off and the sex scene despite how good it looked was unnecessary long.

I am also baffled by how can a studio find nothing better than making a short about Hitler dying several times when asked by fucking Netflix to do something creative.

Yeah i thought the hitler one could have had potential but it felt, samey with the outcomes.

Zima blue was a great one cause i never imagined that he was a humble pool cleaner robot given sentience

Aquila rift has a fucking great ending.

The one with the robot bus hijackers would make for a fun animated show, same for 3 robots.

I thought the witness fucking sucked

Orange bot best bot

Also a poll, cause polls are fun.

strawpoll.me/17689605

it's multiple choice as well.

I very nearly turned it off during the second short about that asian chick running from the Jew for ten minutes, especially during the cringe scene where she’s convulsing on the couch in the club.

The werewolf one about fursicution was fucking lame.
Zumba Blue, the yogurt one, and the Russian one were amazing.

I loved it but there´s room for improvement.
They shouldn´t shove sex and nudity when it isn´t necessary. Hell, my favorite shorts didn´t have sex at all.

After Love death and robots, I just want Lego to give the rights of Bionicle to NETFLIX, imagine an adult story with the terrifying Makuta without body, just a mass of pieces? Or the child disguise, that things are sick and great, I would pay for an adult Bionicle series

>besides the moments of unnecesary edge or nudity
But how can they show that creators had full freedom if there is no Edge and nudity.

Gives me an adult swim vibe

Zima Blur hands down. Best shit ever.

The best ones in my smelly opinion were the more lighthearted ones, but I did like the were-fox one.

Least favorite story-wise was Sonnie's Edge. But it looked visually stunning.

Edgy and nudity are GOOD.
Learn to apreciate a but if them now and then, you people wouod never be aboe to handle Heavy Metal if it was released today (and that it was meant to be)

Also Good Hunt was the best short.

Which ones would make good animated shows?

Zima Blue was pretentious as fuck.

It was basically celebrating ignorance

Fucking retarded

>Netflix does a story where they discover that their world is just the face mask of a giant god. Makuta seeks to revive this being and drive it

As expected

I loved the art style of this episode so fucking much. What else has this studio worked on?

Haven't watched the entire thing yet (watched up to that episode with the chinese guy), but so far its been super solid.
Except the werewolf episode, what a goddamn snoozefest.

>imagine an adult story
It would probably suck given Netflix's track record.

This one gave me chills during the final transformation. Steam punk and Chinese mythology is such a good combination. Good Hunting and Zima Blue are tied for my favorites among the series.

Alternate Histories is definitely my least favorite but at least it gave me something I hadn't seen before.

Aquila Rift was a familiar premise but a good take on it.

Ice Age was a story that we've seen at least a half dozen times before and most of those did it better or at least more interesting. Pic very much related. Watching Ice Age, nearly every single beat reminded me of this Dennou Coil episode up until the end.

I liked Three Robots but I'm biased
Ending was dumb though
My tier list is pretty much any of the shorts that actually had robots in them I liked
Ones with technology in general, but no actual robots in the middle
And stuff that had nothing to do with robots on the bottom, aside from Sucker of Souls

Holy shit, thank you user

I have no clue how I like 3 robots as much as I do. It's pretty much mostly rebbit humor the whole way through and the ending was pretty dumb. But I really, really loved the amimation and the robot designs (Especially the orange one.)

The dude was actually sticking his dick in the spiders mouth hole

My opinion is that the world needs more sci-fi anthologies, and I'm glad LDR exists regardless of the quality of the individual stories.

Theres going to be a lot of that in this thread unfortunately.

As someone who loves Astronauts, I thought this short was insultingly the dumbest shit ever.

It's objectively the worst one, but can you really call it surprising in the current political climate?

Zima Blue is so much better than all the other seventeen episodes is ridiculous.

I hope they get better writers/storytellers for the next season, in case they're working on another one.

The show is getting multiple times more attention than something like Dragon Prince did and that got a second season, so it's pretty likely it gets a second season.

>Zima Blue is so much better than all the other seventeen episodes is ridiculous.
Justify this statement.

Zima Blue isn't necessarily "better" but it is an example of a "plotless" short story, where the viewer's interest is maintained through the reveal of information versus a plot filled with action and violence.

Plotless stories are always more difficult to write, which is what makes it such an achievement.

Yogurt is a nice break from the more serious and heavy episodes.

Unfortunately it’s not funny and feels more like filler given that it’s 4 minutes long and nothing really happens

>Psychic Rachnera-san, but IRL

She did NOTHING wrong!

Anybody here would like a Fantasy themed anthology?

>Including there alternate fantasy, high and low fantasy, modern, historical and horror.

Attached: 1542324913984.jpg (1275x2048, 518K)

>"plotless" short story
But it's not plotless, and if it was that wouldn't be a good thing. It has a plot, and that's literally the people have been praising about it, even though the story isn't much better than any other story in the anthology

I want more time screen guys running naked in the wild with bouncing dongs before turning furry

That pool cleaner robot had more meaning to it's entire life, than Zima had even in the height of his own life.

I proposed the idea on a previous thread that each season should have a different thematic.
>Hate, Marriage and Dragons
>Peace, Guns and Demons
>War, Friendship and Aliens

All it did was clean tiles, Zima created works that inspired people. The short is a really dumb idea at the core. Zima himself was not only an expression of human ingenuity, but a being that graduated to being something more something that could think and act on its own accord, even if that meant to make the choice his purpose was cleaning tiles. Ironically making his final work inherently false in it's intended meaning, only really valid as a display of free choice and his decision to sacrifice it

bassically the idea is what happens if god leaves us

So what was she doing? Why was everyone seemingly starving or dead there? Despite her words, that seemed like she was some spider succubus.

And was she honest about EVERYONE with that AI bug landing there?

Original story goes into more and she/her crew were first to get stuck there and is honestly just trying to help people and make it less shit for them with good mental illusions.

Needs more robot of color

Got a link?

it's literally named the same thing has the episode

What makes Zima Blue so great is that in a series that deals with so many artificial intelligences acting like humans it’s the only one that actually examines how a robot might think, and how it’s wishes might be different from that of our own conventional thinking. Zima’s Decision to revert back to what he originally did is interesting, and it examines how a fundamentally different type of intelligence might function. It’s the only one of the shorts that really tinkers with the idea of robotic thought, and it steps out of being conventional like all of the others.

better than "now I know humans are inferior!" classic thing with robots.

I want more Sonnie's Edge man.

>now I know robots are inferior!
classic thing with incels.

Assuming we get a second season, what stories and authors would you like to see, Yea Forums?
David Brin, Paolo Bacigalupi, Roger Zelazny, China Miéville, and Peter Watts would be at the top of my list, along with Neil Stevenson and William Gibson. This also seems like the perfect medium for an adaptation of The Last Question.

How many cute dude bots are there?

TLDR: Zima Blue was focused on being poetic. People like it cuz "muh intelect"

>Roger Zelazny

I'd rather see a whole animated series based on Amber than just a single short.

I could easily see an original story from R Scott Bakker set in the Third Apocalypse universe fit into a sequel season. Maybe the fall of the No God or the arrival of the Inchoroi upon Earwa. Or a chonicle of the Dunyain.

Any of those would fit in with the scifi elements.

Really catchy song

most reddit thing ever

Here are my opinions on every episode:

>Sonnies Edge
It was okay. Kinda annoyed at the lesbian protagonist and how MEN DID THAT TO HER.
>Three Robots
Great. Given how the world was destroyed by a Tsunami, the bodies being strewn about as if a war broke out was retarded. Reddit tier ending.
>The Witness
It was okay. UNBREAKABLE CYCLE YO.
>Suits

>Sucker of Souls
Breddy cool. I liked that they actually BTFO'd Dracula. Ends like a nightmare would.
>When Yogurt Took Over
LOL XD but in all honesty it's interesting in that humanity gets taken over, loses ambition and becomes genuinely dependent on something that didn't care for it.
>Beyond Aquila Rift
Great. Sex scene was too long. The "Living In The Shadows" song was overused. Was kinda annoyed it was going for one thing (ie He was genuinely living an illusion and fucking the monster in the mouth, which is why when he woke up his coworker she freaked out, but ended in IT WAS ALL A DREAM. If it was all a dream controlled by the alien, why did the coworker, who is a dream figment freak out and tell him TO LOOK AT HER as if she was a monster? Was it his brain telling him there was something wrong?

I'd argue the "Women are victims" wasn't out of place in Good Hunting since it tied into the overarching anti-colonialism theme and how the British pretty much treated the locals of whatever area they decided to take over as sub-human trash in actual history.

Compared to Sonny's Edge where it was literally just there to be there since they left a pretty big part of it out from the original short story it was based on.

>>Suits
>CLASH OF CLANS LOL BUY OUR APP
what the hell that means?

>It was okay. Kinda annoyed at the lesbian protagonist and how MEN DID THAT TO HER.
people say in the original they tell you thats fake and she is just a crash car victim

I loved the werewolf one. Zima Blue and Aquila Rift were amazing too, same for the Secret War. The fish one was pleb filter. And the farmers one was stupid but incredibly fun, same with the dracula one. The rest were okay.

>not piramid

The witness should have been a 5 minute short but at the least, it was fucking gorgeous.

piramid is bazinga tier

I believe her spiderlings were eating the corpses, but hey, you have to try to survive somehow. Other than that she was trying to help the people but she knew what their reaction would always be. A dream can be better than reality sometimes.

it was literally 127 hours and gravity. totally pointless

>If it was all a dream controlled by the alien, why did the coworker, who is a dream figment freak out and tell him TO LOOK AT HER as if she was a monster? Was it his brain telling him there was something wrong?

I believe the spider lady added that precisely to slowly make him doubt reality so that he would wake up. Thats why the "you are not ready YET". She tries to ease them into waking up alone in an horrifying spiderweb, lost forever.

That or the dreams are shared, god knows.

I felt that The Witness was the weakest short, but it had the best visual style.

From what I understand, the gang rape backstory is what she and her friends spread around because it gives men and society in general an acceptable "reason" for her being the way she is. Because people expect some kind of tragic backstory to explain away her edge or her attitude, she made one up to fulfill their expectations and keep them from looking any deeper into it.

It's essentially a smokescreen to satisfy people's curiosity and keep them from finding out she's actually the monster.

Like how 90's cartoon writers would put super dirty jokes into the first draft of a kids show for the censors to catch in order to distract them from the subtler dirty jokes that would actually make it through.

Zima Blue > Good Hunting > Secret War > Beyond the Rift > Suits > Ice Age > Everything else >>>>> Sonnies Edge

>Sonnie's Edge
Sonnie was never a victim because the backstory was a red herring...

i.imgur.com/sk0ppt4.png

Interesting, actually.

Thanks for the play by play, user.

they made the rape actually happen in the animation

I feel like they were going for one thing and then changed halfway through when the implication that he was mouth fucking a creepy alien spider was a bit much, to which I say 'fuck you'.

You do have a point with the "You are not ready yet" quote, which coupled with allegedly caring for everyone who gets lost there, paints the spider species as capricious liars.

That's not quite true. They just never said one way or the other that it actually happened.

Honestly it's the one problem I have with that short.

Doesn't matter which short had better story than another short, because the animation was fucking amazing. It's getting to a really high point where you could probably do anything with the power of mo-cap and 3D.
Fuck the 2D episodes tho, they stink.

no u

>>>>>>Sonnie's Edge

>facepalm.jpeg

You do know the rape thing never happened and she's using it for the lulz right?

only in book is that true and not the animation

Attached: 1552958758853.png (838x688, 41K)

all of them where fun except for sonnys edge which i still ended up warming up to because the graphics where neat

Ibrewatched this and swear to fucking god can't see this scene anywhere in the short. Is this a cut scene or something?

Depending on the mythology werewolves can regenerate at absurd levels. Notice that he had to inflict damage that would cause instant or near instant death to vital areas.

>MEN DID THAT TO HER.
It got a little redeemed when the girl backstabbed her hard.

No, in the animation she outright says she was raped and beat up by a gang and her 2 chuckle fuck friends salved her brain. Says when she's bleeding out on the floor and reveal happens.

>“But that night, the gang, the”

>"Rape. It's not that. They can't see past it. No one can. But it ain't what gives me my edge. Angry little girl, out for revenge. Dicko believes that shit 'cause he wants to. They all do."

>"Everyone sees what they want to see."

But anyway, in the reveal she does mention that the estate gang had messed her up to the point that her brain was put inside the creature, but to the details as to why is vague in the short, but in the actual short story no such thing happened.

They saved her body and put her mind in the creature, but led to the events isn't exactly made known. She isn't out for revenge or anything like the "rape story" implies. So, where does she get her edge?

Suits really needs to be a full series. That shit oozed charm.

Needlessly putting her life on the line in back alley monster fight. She loses and the team loses both there monster and controller and then the team loses all their money.

I mean, yeah. I can see that. His transformation was them ripping their human skin off, so I guess they Wolverine that shit.

You need to be 18 to post here. I think.

Zima Blue had soul, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other stuff.

Beyond the Aquila Rift was alright with a nice twist

Good Hunting was alright but could've done without the victim woman shit, at least for the first half before the British.

Three Robots was cute but hamfisted at times.

Werewolf one was fucking weird and the most dude bro shit.

Sonnie's Edge was feminist girl power schlock where the protagonist is strong because she's now a literal fucking monster

>Sonnie's Edge was feminist girl power schlock where the protagonist is strong because she's now a literal fucking monster
And really, that'd be the only way for women to be better than men.
Nah, but really. I just want to fuck Sonniemon.

No, she got stabbed in the head.

She was always the monster, she says she's only strong because her fear of dying makes her fight harder than anyone else in the ring

No, she got stabbed in the jaw

The fuck is this from

Depends no what you mean by adult, if you mean stupid edgy Family Guy tier shit then no it basically be your average American "adult" cartoon garbage.

Is the jaw not part of the head?

depends on how technical you want to get

What's the point of hyper-realistic 3D animation? You can accomplish the same thing using actors in a green screen and it will look less creepy in two years.

Aquila rift was predictable and derivative with a really lame excuse for horror that is based purely on visuals despite the reality of the situation being quite reassuring. I don't understand the praise this story seems to receive.

>Dosen't want to push 3D animation to the limit.
>Thinking Real life actors in fake CG background would the same as Hyper-Realism.

Attached: This is so stupid.jpg (480x438, 30K)

3D animation has less freedom than 2D. I want to see young animators getting trained in the superior medium. And the point of hyper-realism is to imitate live action, so it would have the same effect as perfect of hyper-realism.

It allows the characters to not completely stick out in their 3D environment

Glorious end

Attached: BAA8EA04-B8B5-4F19-9E54-983D8542B2D3.png (600x299, 297K)

Can't wait for season 2.

Attached: LDR.png (1149x411, 512K)

3D environments are much more convincing than human CGI faces, since as a species we are adapted to closely watch facial movements. Actors standing out in CGI environments is hardly a problem these days unless the environment is very poorly done.

The only benefit I see from hyper-realism is if you are purposely using the uncanny valley for an unsettling effect, which may have been the case for some of these shorts. It just makes me sad to see the old art being abandoned for something that seems so pointless.

>Ice Age above Good Hunting and The Witness
Good lord user, you should get those opinions checked into a hospital.

Am I the only one who found Blindside to be extremely boring and uninspired?

You're right, I'm not sure why I put it so high, I'm just too lazy to lower it.

Why do people here hate Alternate Histories? I thought it was fine. Not great, kinda middling, but I thought it did what it intended to do.

It’s practically a YouTube video.

It just felt bland to me honestly. Don’t know how else to put it.

I'm like five or six shorts in.

I've seen two based on John Scalzi shorts. Both have a vibe of "haha, humans are stupid with their stupid human quirks. I'm above that though." God I hate fucking John Scalzi.

I want to get to the Alastair Reynolds ones. I've been curious about his books, and I guess this will be a sample pack for me.

She gets her edge from actually literally being the creature, and therefore she has a greater degree of control over her own body than the human monster controllers.

Rather than being a human controlling a monstrous meat suit, she's a monstrous meat suit controlling a human. No input lag. Plus the "edge" is the shear need to survive. Essentially any hint of gender politics was a fake out, which was kind of funny.

>besides the moments of unnecessary nudity
I really like all the nudity Netflix puts in their shows. It reminds me of the 80s when every mediocre summer flick had at least one set of gratuitous tits in it.
Main stream movies these days are quick to throw sex at you but they really feel like they shy away from plain old nudity far too often.

Except it was better than both because it got to the point in 15 minutes. God, I hated Gravity.

You're outright told that the company employing them is skipping security precautions to save money.

You mean Blindspot. And yes.

>I've seen two based on John Scalzi shorts. Both have a vibe of "haha, humans are stupid with their stupid human quirks.
Notice that in Three Robots, they only get to feel smug and superior as long as there's nobody to challenge them. The moment they meet any sentient creature, they get absolutely BTFO. It's kind of the point: The robots talk shit about things they know nothing about and are just arrogant as they imagine humans were being.

The Art deco style worked perfectly for the context, the message was in no way pretentious and was well delivered for such a short amount of time.

An almost omniscient being who went on searching for his truth and perfecting his art for centuries, walking this endless path to realize that he had to go back to the core of his self. It's a great message for its implications. It's not simply "dude don't complicate everything, live in simplicity". It's more about the long path one had to take in order to come back home. See it as the Hero's journey. It's a circle.

As I said the praise comes from the directing and the technical qualities (the sex scene and the music). The story itself is good for a short. But the story comes from a book, not the studio.

user, you stupid fuck, what the fuck do you think this thread is about?

Every episode is either "in the future normal people kill monsters" or "in the future only SEX and EDGE exist"
Every ep feels like it's written by a 13 year old.
fuck this show i wasted so much time watching this hoping "the next one will be good"

The latter.

how horny was the dude who made this

they make animations so that should tell you all you need to know

Its just some have recurring themes, Like giant bugs and space ships
