Widow was "hardened" but she always had a chip on her shoulder too, e.g. her Avengers intro scene dicking around during her interrogation or looking back over her shoulder at the Winder Soldier and shooting him a cocky grin for missing all his shots during the highway fight and generally always having a quip waiting on her tongue. Even when things were hopeless she at least put up a nice front, i.e. after coming to the decision that they have to blow up Sokovia with them still on it.

I'd like to see a completely despondent Black Widow. For all intents and purposes, they lost. Half the universe gone. And from their POV, they all probably think it's irreversible. That's soul crushing. "Hardened" is probably just a simple way to say it. We already see some scenes of her in Endgame and she looks completely disheveled. I specifically want to see some angsty Cap and Nat interaction, their scenes are great and we were snubbed on them in Infinity War.

Thanos is raising soldiers. He needs his children to be strong and ruthless. That's why he appreciates Gamora so much. She had the stones to walk up to him during the middle of an alien invasion to ask for her mother, she never submitted to him throughout her childhood, when she was made to fight she fought to win.

Whereas Nebula was small, scared and eager to please, and kept allowing Gamora to beat her in combat so Gamora would show he love. Nebula was the weakest of his children and that weakness had to be beaten out of her, so she was the biggest recipient of Thanos' tough love.

I'm surprised this isn't more of a popular opinion when people revisit these movies. I thought they wrote them off collectively as IRREDEEMABLY BAD even though they largely nailed the tone they're supposed to have, along with the interpersonal relationships.
And true, Ben Grimm isn't supposed to be comedic all the time, he's more sardonic if anything, but I would imagine Cena could be directed to do it properly instead of whatever he tried to do in Bumblebee. Otherwise I can't think of any other actor who could do him, it has to be physically imposing even if he'll be mostly CGI, with a gravely voice.

CA:CW conflict wasn't really that much better than in the comics.

What they did in the movie was remove the bullshit motivations that led to the Civil War, and instead it tied them to every single act where the Avengers saved lives but also caused destruction.
