Why is this character so divisive to the general public?

Why is this character so divisive to the general public?

Superman is a person of morals who believes in hope and in doing the correct thing in the correct way. The world is not like Superman.

Because DC won't let Superman be Superman

Manbaby NEETs don't aspire to be better.

>divisive
You misspelled lame.

He's good.

People disagree about what "good" means.

Audiences find him boring and too perfect

This, 'Truth, Justice and the American Way' are three of those things that nobody can agree on an actual practical definition for

It’s basically casuals arguing with comic readers

Some people can’t understand the idea of having power and using it to help others, they believe Superman it’s infantile and teaches children to be naive and weak
I agree they are children’s stories, or were supposed to be, now they try to force him in narratives that analyze the “realistic” expectations of super heroes, which is retarded outsider satires or critics

He's the archetypical superhero. You always know how things are going to turn out for him because his stories laid the groundwork for everything that came afterward.

He's interesting when writers are deconstructing that. There is no point in writing "back to basics" Superman, because we have 100 years of exactly that.

Because insecure Marvel fans compulsively shout down competition

Hes not, only faggots and edgelords dislike superman. They are less than 1% of the population, just like /pol/ fags, they think their opinions matter, they don't.

>They are less than 1% of the population
I love superman, but that's fucking delusional. No one gives a fuck about him nowadays.

I don't worry about him. More so you worry if he will succeed in saving the day in time. It is better when writers create stories that involves Superman dealing with his failure from saving everyone. Paying more attention to him being unable to save those caught in the cross fire. Or even being unable to save someone dying from an incurable sickness, or from a freak accident.

normies don't like superman cause he is "over powered and boring"

Yeah, barely anyone actually dislikes him. Most people are indifferent but think he’s fine or just don’t care at all.

>muh /pol/ whining

??? All I said was that faggots and edgelords, like /pol/, aren't a significant number of people. Why do you feel the need to whiteknight /pol/ of all fucking places, they hate you more than they hate me.

He isn't, general society doesn't really care, or know.

because he's seen as a foil to Batman.

he was universally loved at one point, i think its a case of some people over compensating by being an ass about it.

Because idiots think he’s too damned perfect. My moronic friends who are all Marvel fanboys love to bash on Superman for being a god.

If someone in this shitty world had Superman powers, they’d probably be like Tighten from Megamind. Too many people would abuse the powers because they think they’re above humanity. This is why people hate the idea of Superman as a character because most people are shitheads. Nobody is really truly evil, but they’re not truly good people either.

Liars don't like Truth. Criminals don't like Justice. Cowards don't like the American Way.

/pol/ is here because of the ongoing raid and some of the raiders have followed, don't respond to /pol/ bait, ignore the fake argument in the thread.

rent free

Lack of good media. It's been ages since Superman had a good movie or a comic, so you've to keep your standards low enough to like him as a character. Superfags are just people who don't care about the comics and would rather see the same inspirational pictures being spammed and go on long winded discussion about what the character means. They are people who would give death threats to creators and still ride the high horse about morality, and truth, justice, american ways.

So in short, you got to have autism to like the modern version of the character.

Sometimes he is compared to jesus. /thread

Superman has better modern comics than the majority of cape characters I can think of.

>hey are people who would give death threats

>remembers Marvel's male fanbase just losing it's shit over a gril

riiiiiiiiiigggghhhht

Only if you compare him with characters who get 12 issues once every 10 years. He hasn't had a good run in decades.

Except that doesn’t quite make sense to how the Bible says about why Jesus was brought into the world.

Jesus is meant to be an accusation against the evils of men that God points out, hence why his Son was meant to die for man’s sins. Humanity is scorned for their sins and Jesus is meant for them to guide back to God’s good graces.

Superman grew up amongst humans and knows how they are. He wants to be them yet he never can. Superman sees humanity and embraces the best aspects of them, thus exemplifying it as his persona as the Man of Steel. The sun didn’t give Superman his strength so much as the people in Smallville and his life.

So I really roll my eyes whenever people think Superman is a Jesus analogy. If anything he’s Moses.

When was the last time Captain America had a good run? Iron Man? Thor?

Very few people "dislike" Superman. But at the same time, not as many people "love" Superman. Not at the same level as Batman or Spider-Man.

>Iron man
Knauf, Fraction if you want. Iron man is another character not known for good comics.
>Captain America
Brubaker
>Thor
JMS
That's a lot better showing than Superman.

Brubaker's Captain America
Kieron Gillen's Journey into Mystery

Morrison's Action Comics is more recent and better than any of those.

Golden Age Superman would be a really good movie. It would click with the socialist Zoomer crowd.

Attached: action comics mine.jpg (759x428, 85K)

>HURR DURR close your mind, be a bent over >faggot.

To keep it modern:

>Busiek's Superman
>Johns' Superman
>Paul Cornell's Action Comics
>Grant Morrison's Action Comics
>Greg Pak's Action Comics
>Peter Tomasi's Superman

It's his intended purpose seeing that he was created by jews

gary stu

Superfags hate it because it wasn't comfy enough for them.

Superman is the reflection of current cape media to what its writers want.
He changes throughout the generations either through re-inventions or nostalgia.

>Johns
>Tomasi
Literally proving my point right.

I have never seen any "Superfag" hating Morrison's run. The only people I see invested on haying on it are people that want to convince themselves that Superman doesn't have good stories like

>Fraction's Iron Man is good
>Johns and Tomasi's Superman is bad, though
Ah, so you are retarded.

He just hasn't had a good movie. After watching Shazam, I'm dead serious in thinking that if they just gave Superman a smile and a competent director/script the general audience would adore him. The general public loves Cap, they can love Supes too. They just don't know it yet.

Attached: 1550111056751.jpg (311x291, 19K)

The general public knows Superman from the movies, cartoons and tv shows and they like him. It’s just that in recent years, he’s just sucked in the movie area: Superman Returns, Man of Steel and BvS weren’t exactly the Superman people wanted to see. Add in the fact that there’s other popular heroes now, and Superman just seems a bit obsolete or old fashioned by comparison. They just need to make a good fucking Superman movie to get people to like him again. Superman is well liked among comic book readers and I’ve only ever seen weebs complain about Superman being “overpowered”.

DC Bendis and Tomasi have never written anything remotely good. Both are reddit the writers, and you have got to have a double digit iq to like anything by them.
Tomasi's Superman is absolutely dogshit. Shit like Multiplicity, Superman reborn and every arc after that was objectively bad.

I am a Morrisonfag, so it's impossible for me to hate it. It's just too good for Superfags. They'd rather praise shit like Tomasi's and Jurgens' shitty runs.

>If anything he’s Michael Archangel.

Nah, Tomasi's and Jurgen's where objectively great runs.

I disagree, I think they are good, both at least as good as JMS' Thor and much better than Fraction's Iron Man.

I also think that you are a confused person. First, you say that Superman doesn't have good runs. Then, you say that Morrison's run is amazing and too good for "Superfags". Make up your mind.

Not even recent years, his last good movie that was unequivocally considered good was Superman II. That was almost 30 years ago

Yeah, but he’s been in some decent or well liked tv shows and cartoons. Smallville, Superman TAS, Justice League, Superman and the LoSH, Justice League Action and so on. He’s even liked in that mediocre CW Supergirl shows. There’s also the video games and stuff. It’s not like the movies are the only ones to get people to give Superman attention, it’s just that movies do it faster and better cause they reach a wider audience.

People think he's sexy

At least they don’t shut down the competition
*cough cough Fawcett*

>both at least as good as JMS' Thor
Lol. This is why Superman has such a shitty track record. Superfags would eat up anything. A hack like Tomasi is considered for Superman what Miller was for Daredevil.

>padded costume

>Superfags would eat up anything
But you are the one worshiping JMS here, Thorfag. You don't see Superfag pretenďing that JMS is Miller, do you?

>implying

Zoomers find him "unrelatable" because he does good things without an ulterior motive, believes in traditional American values, and works a 9-to-5 job. Have him stop while foiling a bank robbery to mug for the cameras and push his youtube channel and they'd probably like him more.

Whiteknighting for /pol/ is a meme lately.

Yeah, Marvel would never do that. *cough cough M.F. Enterprises*

What's with the obsession that "Superman is bad because he's the most powerful"?

I've even seen someone flat out admit in a Youtube video that Superman wasn't the most powerful, but that they were going to consider him that anyway because "HE'S SUPERMAN GUYS!"

Attached: 1522694604616.jpg (700x359, 19K)

Because he hasn't had a good movie since 1981 and most people haven't even watched those. Also no one reads comics and he got overshadowed in the cartoons by other characters.

Why did they arrest Zoidberg?

Jay from RLM unironically believes that Superman is the most powerful and has no veritable weaknesses so you can probably catch a glimpse of how most people view the Man of Steel himself.

The same reason this character is so loved by the general public. No one actually wants to be the stoic good guy who's willing to sacrifice a lot to help the world , everyone wants to be the filthy degenerate wreaking havoc and trying to justify it by larping about SOCIETY.

Attached: joker.jpg (1024x748, 147K)

Fawcett shouldn't hve plagarized art from National then

Attached: capmarvsuperman.png (293x857, 642K)

Everybody did that shit back then. Bob Kane and Bill Finger did a crazy amount of copying for Batman, mostly from The Shadow, but with art stolen and traced from all over the place.

>Saying that JMS is not as shitty as Johns or Tomasi is worshipping JMS.
Superfags shifting goals as usual. Nobody even considers JMS to be the defining Thor run.

It stems from the fact that a lot of run of the mill Superman stories are of the action adventure vein, and the argument is that Superman is 'boring because he's too strong' takes all the dramatic tension out of the story.

I think the obsession part comes from it being an easy argument to regurgitate, and it not being entirely unfounded. As yes, Superman has a pretty high power level and could take most shit. The arguments flaw is that it kind of assumes the only source of drama or tension in a story could possibly come from mortal peril to the protagonist. And many bad-to-mediocre Superman stories are structured like this.

I think the time travel at the end of Superman 1 is most responsible for the idea he could just simply solve any problem.

Too many misconceptions.

Wanna explain how Tomasi's run was objectively bad?

Stupid people think he's one-dimensional.

Is that Zoidberg?

>"hurr he is over powered and boring"
>"he is not realistic"
>"not enough dark and close to the real world"
>"Batman can beat him, Batman is the best"
It's always the same

The comic's from 2007, it could very well be that they snuck Zoidberg in there.

Cuz the general public is thick as pig shit most of the time.

They hate Superman for being "overpowered" but saw Thor take the force of a sun to his face and survive and they loved it.

Also the perception that he has no flaws.

He is, though.

You're stupid.
