Edd dying was one of the deaths in my late childhood that really shook me to my core and made me appreciate the fragility of life.

As far as anyone's concerned Tom managed to burn bridges with animators that Edd was friends with
He confronted the Sleepy Cast guys at one point over the Shadman drawing where Death anally rapes Edd which was created right after the news of his death occured. The Sleepy Cast guys didn't care and told Tom to confront Shad about it

He's also known for not paying animators enough or on time either

That's probably one of the reason Eddsworld has stayed as a comic for the past few years and nothing else has happened with it despite Edds request before he died and Matt probably doesn't know how to handle everything properly and has to go through Edds family who's also in control of the property as well

Short story:
He descended from making comedies back to back on Youtube, to being a vlogger
Long Story:
He made many bad decisions and cut ties with friends. He gained weight out of reasonable grief and stress, he was on a great streak of losing the weight, but he started to drink heavily out of grief and stress which would balloon him. Because he was now overweight, many symptoms of obesity, including aggressive mood swings in some cases, dampened his abilities. He made a couple comedy shorts, but they're more dialogue heavy than visual heavy. ASDF movie gets him many views, but not as much as they used to. Viewership decline is a problem, and he has conformed to the decline.
His actual problem is that he's extremely self conscious to the point where he'll search out multiple internet posts/videos about him, which doesn't lead to motivation (But self hatred)

Tom can be a great man, but right now he's at slow progress. Unlike the majority of the guys in recent Eddsworld threads, I have hope that Tom will return to greatness. (On a psycological level)

I honestly never got why people get as mad over Tom as they do. Obviously he did a lot of shit wrong, but it's obvious he was just fucked up over the death of his friend. Losing a friend then having to carry on making the show you both worked on together while also trying to recover is probably hard on someone's mental health. I actually wish the best for him. I never lost someone close to me before, but I can't imagine that it's something easy to get over.

Edd loved making cartoons. Even if he didn't continue on Youtube, he'd still being animating no doubt. Who knows, maybe in another life he was picked up by a legit animation studio and made his own show for television.
