Is that the one with a sexy snake lady?
WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE HAD:
Have a sequel to legend reborn wrapping up the BIONICLE story
Or an adaptation of 2006-8 while retaining the art direction of the originals.
Definitely the latter. 10 year-old me was extremely miffed that 2006 never got a movie
Why did LEGO cuck these movies so hard?
>robotic characters not allowed to hit each other with their weapons because it's "too violent"
How do you think they would have done Zaktan?
That's Web of Shadows.
MNOG was one of the few good long semi-animations.
Even though I watched the movies first, they were bastardizations of the Bionicle Universe.
Probably fear of losing a relatively family-friendly image and violence in general, misguided corporate guidance and all that.
>Legends of Metru Nut
Funny, cause all kinds of horrifying things happened in the books.
I truthfully can't remember much about the movies and therefore can't comment on which one I favor, but did Bionicle's surprisingly complex lore spark an interest in complicated fictional universes or was that just me?
Books are always able to get away with crazy shit. Just look at Gregor the Overlander or Animorphs; same time period, but much more explicit.
>We never got Inika/Mahri movies
metru nut
>tfw bionicle used to be the shit
>never got into the story after web of shadows (I was a brainlet that just watched movies and skimmed comics)
where does the story go with the piraka all I know about that generation is the stupid advertisements they used to have for em where they played some emo rock music over the bionicles walking in slow motion
>mata nui is dying, he needs mask of life
>toa nuva go to get the mask of life
>piraka kick their ass
>jaller and friends go after them, become toa inika
>toa inika kick piraka's ass, mask runs away underwater
>inika go underwater, mask of life turns them into water-breathing toa mahri
>one of them has to sacrifice himself to use the mask
>toa nuva get environment-adaptive armor, and go to wake mata nui up
>turns out while mata nui was dead, makuta let himself get destroyed, and when mata nui came back to life, makuta's spirit slipped in before his own
>toa wake up mata nui's body with makuta's spirit
>makuta is now the universe
Mata Nui isn't actually asleep, but dying. The universe only has a short amount of time before the end of all things. The one thing that can stop the apocalypse it is the mask of life, which is more of a living animal than a simple mask, used to "restart the heart" of Mata Nui. The original Toa are sent on a quest to find it. everyone assumes it'll go smoothly so Vakama and the others keep this information from the
Matoran, and even Takanuva as to not cause panic. But shit hits the fan, the OG toa get fucked up by these mysteriously powered up bounty hunters called the paraka also trying to find the mask, and have taken over the entire island the mask is suspected to be on. One Matoran Matoro actually figured out that mata nui was dying, and convinces his little buddies, most from the first movie, that they need to go save the Toa. Takanuva being a bro tags along for as much as he can until he's forced to split from them for very contrived reasons. Those cool matoran of course are all worthy to be Toa anyways, and they get powered up. After the originals are rescued i don't remember why the original Toa don't go after the mask of life anymore, but they don't and the new Toa go after it instead. After a chase through a volcano they fight a paraka who found the mask of life months ago, but was fused to it after being deemed unworthy or whatever, and forced to be its guardian. After the Toa wreak him, the mask flies off into the ocean for some reason, setting the stage for 2007.
How do you feel about the fact that Lego stopped making brown Toa?
fpbp
I really liked the sand-coloured pieces. Also those turquoise ones.
Kopaka was pretty fly for a white guy.
>tfw you still remember that the first one you ever owned was OG Kopaka (objectively best boi)
>not bro as fuck pohatu
>Red: kids who only liked leader characters like in power rangers. won't settle for less unless its a more expensive set
>Blue: kids who really like blue but didn't realize that the blue toa are feminine
>Green: chads who like playing as characters who aren't the center of attention but characters who like doing their own thing
>White: edgelords who like playing as the most angsty looking characters
>Black: typically a mixed bag of kids who end of the day liked the color black. no one ever felt disappointed in this being their 2nd choice since they always looked tough
>Brown: who the fuck would have picked this by choice? what were they thinking? did they learn nothing from m&m's?
Fuck you, I liked brown kicky boy
*AHEM*
FUCK MATA NUI AND FUCK TOA
Based and Lewapilled
>One Matoran Matoro actually figured out that mata nui was dying, and convinces his little buddies
As I recall, they were literally all the guys you got at McDonald's.
It was a mix of the Mickey-Ds guys and the movie cast.
Can someone sum up the lore for someone who didn't get into it as a kid?
>the stupid advertisements
Fuck you, that Piraka commercial where they have rap music in it was great.
It's the innocent story of Robots living in the jungle having adventures that takes a turn about 5 years into its run and stops being innocent and you realize there's a big reason why there's no humans there.
I'll summarize the entire Lore for you as clear and concise as possible. in CAPS LOCK!
BACKSTORY: MATA NUI IS A GIANT SPACEFARING ROBOT. LIKE THE SIZE OF TWO PLANET EARTHS. TO SUSTAIN HIS SYSTEM, SMALLER, BIOMECHANICAL ORGANISMS WERE CREATED WHICH WOULD PREFORM SPECIFIC TASKS. THE MAKUTA RACE WAS CREATED TO CREATE LIFE AS NECESSARY, THE MATORAN WERE LIKE RED BLOOD CELLS, THE TOA WERE LIKE WHITE BLOOD CELLS, ETC ETC. AS A FAILSAFE IN THE EVENT OF A TEMPORARY SHUTDOWN, MATA NUI WAS PROGRAMMED TO CAMOUFLAGE HIS BODY AS A LANDMASS. THE TOA MATA WERE CREATED, WITH THEIR MISSION BEING TO JUMPSTART THE "HEART" OF THE ROBOT, LOCATED IN KARDA NUI. REMEMBER THIS IT WILL BE IMPORTANT LATER MY NIGGA
STORY BEGINS!
2001: (This story was told in the form of an online game and comic books) SIX CANISTERS WASH UP ON THE SHORES OF MATA NUI AFTER 1000 YEARS OF FLOATING AIMLESSLY CARRYING THE TOA MATA, CREATED AS AN EMERGENCY MEASURE IN CASE MATA NUI WERE TO "DIE" BEFORE COMPLETING HIS MISSION, WHO ARE WELCOMED BY THE ISLAND'S INHABITANTS, THE MATORAN, AND THEIR LEADERS, THE ELDERLY TURAGA. THE ISLAND AT THIS TIME WAS BEING TERRORIZED BY A SHADOWY NIGGA CALLED THE MAKUTA WHO WAS CONTROLLING THE ISLAND'S NATIVE ANIMAL-LIFE, THE RAHI, THROUGH INFECTED MASKS. TO DEFEAT THE MAKUTA, THE SIX TOA, TAHU (FIRE) GALI (WATER) POHATU (ROCK) ONUA (EARTH) LEWA (AIR) AND KOPAKA (CHILLIN), MUST EACH COLLECT 6 MASKS OF POWER (HAU, KAUKAU, KAKAMA, PAKARI, AKAKU, MIRU) AND COLLECT THE GOLDEN MASKS, WHICH CONTAINED THE POWERS OF ALL THE MASKS THEY HAD COLLECTED. THEIR JOURNEYS, CHRONICLED BY TAKUA, A FIRE TOHUNGA, CONVERGE WHEN THEY ATTEMPT TO DEFEAT THE MAKUTA IN HIS UNDERGROUND LAIR. THEY MANAGE TO DEFEAT HIM (TEMPORARILY) AND ARE ALL TELEPORTED TO THE SURFACE, EXCEPT THE CHRONICLER TAKUA, WHO IN HIS ATTEMPT TO RETURN TO THE MAIN LAND, WOKE THE BOHROK.
2002: This was told in the form of a sequel to that game and comics) THE BOHROK, ANOTHER FAILSAFE MADE UP OF MECHANICAL AUTOMATONS CONTROLLED BY "KRANA", LIVING BRAINS (THINK KRAANG) THAT WOULD CLEAN MATA NUI OF ANY GRIME COLLECTED DURING HIS SHUTDOWN ARE AWAKENED AND BEGIN TO "CLEAN" THE ISLAND, DESTROYING THE HOMES AND SETTLEMENTS OF THE MATORAN AND KILLING RAHI AROUND THE ISLAND. THE TOA MATA TRY TO FIGHT THEM OFF, AND HAVE TO DEAL WITH SOME ISSUES AFTER LEWA, THE TEAM GOOF, GETS FUCKED UP BY A BOHROK AND TAKEN OVER BY A KRANA. FUCKING IDIOT. THEY EVENTUALLY FIX THAT AND GO TO DEAL WITH THE BOHROK AT THEIR SOURCE, WHERE THEY MEET CAHDOK AND GAHDOK, THE SENTIENT MASTERS OF THE BOHROK WHO TELL THE MATA THAT THE BORHOK ARE THEIR "BROTHERS". THE TOA USE MECHANICAL SUITS CALLED HULKBUSTERS AND MANAGE TO DEFEAT THE TWO DINOSAUR-LIKE BEINGS. THE TOA SUDDENLY ARE ABSORBED INTO THE GROUND AND COVERED IN "ENERGIZED PROTODERMIS", ONE OF MANY MUTATIVE ELEMENTS IN THE BIONICLE UNIVERSE, WHICH TURN THEM INTO THE TOA NUVA. AS TOA NUVA, TAHU AND THE GANG HAVE ENHANCED ELEMENTAL POWERS, NEW TOOLS THAT DOUBLE AS TRANSPORTATION MEANS, AND CAN SHARE THEIR MASK POWERS WITH THOSE AROUND THEM. THEY WERE PRETTY NEAT. THE MATORAN, FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN DEFEATING THE BOHROK, WERE CEREMONIOUSLY REWARDED WITH PHYSICAL UPGRADES BECAUSE THATS HOW THEY LIKED TO PARTY ON THE ISLAND. TOP SHELF UPGRADES.
2003 PART 1: (Told exclusively through a comic) THE BOHROK-KAL, WHICH WERE SERIOUSLY DANKED UP VERSIONS OF THE BOHROK, EMERGED. INSTEAD OF LEGIONS, THERE WERE ONLY 6 OF THESE GUYS, AND THEY HAD RIDICULOUS POWERS LIKE GRAVITY, SONIC WAVES, AND PLASMA. THEIR TASK IS A FAILSAFE TO THE FAILSAFE, AND THEY MUST RELEASE CAHDOK AND GAHDOK IF THEY WERE IMPRISONED. THESE GUYS STOLE THE FUCK OUT OF THE TOA'S POWERS BY TAKING THEIR ELEMENTAL SEALS FROM THEIR SUVAS AND ATTEMPTED TO RELEASE THEIR TWO MASTERS. THE TOA HAD OTHER IDEAS, AND THEY REALLY FUCKED UP THE KAL. LIKE, ONE OF THEM GOT THROWN INTO ORBIT, ANOTHER ONE IMPLODED. IT WAS SERIOUSLY GORY FOR A KIDS STORY. BUT AFTER THEIR DEFEAT, EVERYTHING SEEMS GROOVY. UNTIL THEY REALIZE THAT MAKUTA IS STILL ALIVE BITCHES. FOR ME PERSONALLY, NOW THIS IS THE PART THAT HOOKED ME AS A KID.
2003 PART 2: (Told in a direct to DVD film thats actually better than it has any right to be) MAKUTAS FUCKING BACK IN /fa/ NEW ARMOR AND HE'S BROUGHT HIS BOYS WITH HIM, THE RAHKSHI. THESE GUYS WERE DOPE. THEY COULD FLY AND HAD STAFFS AND WERE PRETTY BAD ASS ALL AROUND. THEY WERE POWERED BY KRAATA, WHICH ARE BASICALLY WORMS SYNTHESIZED BY MAKUTA FROM HIS OWN BIOMASS AND COULD INFECT MASKS, TOA, MATORAN, PRETTY MUCH GIVE THEIR AIDS TO ANYTHING. THE RAHKSHI FUCK UP TA-KORO, THE FIRE CITY, WHICH IS IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUCKING VOLCANO, AND END UP WOUNDING TAHU. MEANWHILE, TAKUA, FORMERLY THE CHRONICLER AND HIS BUDDY JALLER, THE CAPTAIN OF THE TA KORO GUARD, FIND THE MASK OF LIGHT UNDER THE TA KORO RUINS. THEY ARE TOLD TO FIND THE TOA OF LIGHT, WHO WILL BE ABLE TO END THE RAHKSHI'S REIGN OF TERROR. WHILE THE TOA NUVA TRY TO PROTECT THE CITIES FROM THE RAHKSHI THREAT, THE MATORAN GO AROUND TRYING TO FIND THE TOA OF LIGHT. THEY'RE HELPED BY A GROUP OF MATORAN CALLED THE CHRONICLER'S COMPANY LED BY HAHLI (WATER) WHO IS THE NEW CHRONICLER. THEY CONSIST OF HAHLY (WATER) NUPARU (EARTH) HEWKII (ROCK) KONGU (AIR) AND MATORO (ICE). ALL OF THE MATORAN IN THIS COMPANY ARE HIGHLY RANKED AND VERY IMPORTANT LATER ON. LONG STORY SHORT, JALLER GETS KILLED BY A RAHKSHI, TAKUA IS ACTUALLY AN AV-MATORAN (MATORAN OF LIGHT) AND IS TRANSFORMED INTO TOA TAKANUVA AFTER HE PUTS ON THE MASK. HE FIGHTS MAKUTA, AND THE TWO FALL INTO A PIT OF ENERGIZED PROTODERMIS, FUSING. ALL OF THE IMPORTANT PEOPLE END UP IN MAKUTA'S BASE AND SEE A NEW ISLAND, UNDERGROUND BY THOUSANDS OF FEET, WITH A DIFFERENTS SKY AND DIFFERENT STARS. THE CEILING COLLAPSES ABOVE TAKANUVA/MAKUTA. THEY SOMEHOW MANAGE TO BRING JALLER AND TAKANUVA BACK TO LIFE, AND THE TURAGA DECIDE TO REVEAL THE TRUTH ABOUT THE ORIGINS OF THE MATORAN...
2004. AKA THE PREQUEL YEAR. PART ONE. (I think this part is from a web serial or maybe a comic) SO ABOUT A COUPLE THOUSAND YEARS GIVE OR TAKE BEFORE THE EVENTS ON MATA NUI, THE MATORAN UNIVERSE WAS BOOMING. THERE WAS AN AIR OF CIVIL WAR BETWEEN THE TOA AND THE MAKUTA, WHO BEGAN THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAKUTA AND WANTED TO TAKE OVER THE UNIVERSE FROM MATA NUI, WHO HAD BEEN ABSENT AND SILENT FOR YEARS. THIS WAS INTERRUPTED BY A VISORAK SWARM, INSECTS WHO WOULD INVADE AND INFECT ISLANDS KIND OF LIKE THOSE STEREOTYPICAL ALIENS THAT TAKE UP RESOURCES. THE MAKUTA, LED BY TERIDAX, BEGAN RECRUITING MERCENARY-LIKE TOA CALLED THE HAGAH TO DEFEAT THE SWARMS. THE HAGAH WERE SUCCESSFUL FOR THE MOST PART, MANY OF THEM HAVING BEEN MUTATED BY VISORAK, AND THE VISORAK RETREATED TO THEIR NATIVE ISLAND. TERIDAX WENT INTO HIDING AND MANY OF THE MAKUTA WENT MISSING. WITHOUT THEIR POWERFUL FORCE, A ROGUES GUILD CALLED THE DARK HUNTERS ATTEMPTED TO SIEGE THE ISLAND OF METRU NUI, THE MOST IMPORTANT LOCATION IN THE MATORAN UNIVERSE, WHICH FUNCTIONS AS MATA NUI'S BRAIN.
TOA LHIKAN'S TEAM, THE TOA MANGAI, WERE ASSIGNED TO PROTECT METRU NUI. THEIR TEAM WAS BADASS AS FUCK. IT HAD LIKE 10 MEMBERS, A TOA OF ELECTRICITY, LIKE FIVE TOA OF ICE, A TOA OF WATER, ONE OF AIR, AND A COUPLE OTHERS. LIKE, IT WAS MASSIVE. ANYWAY, LHIKAN AND THE MANGAI MANAGE TO WARD OFF THE DARK HUNTERS, BUT SUFFER THE LOSS OF THEIR LEADER TUYET TO INSANITY AND THE DEFECTION OF LHIKAN'S BEST FRIEND NIDHIKI WHO WAS TRANSFORMED BY ROODAKA, THE VISORAK QUEEN, AND BECAME A DARK HUNTER. THE REST OF THE TEAM DIED TRYING TO DEFEAT THE KANOHI DRAGON WHICH ALMOST DESTROYED TA-METRU, LEAVING LHIKAN AS THE TEAM'S SOLE TOA.
2004 PART 2: (This was told in the OP's image movie AKA the best movie) AFTER ABOUT A DECADE OF BEING THE PROTECTOR OF METRU-NUI, LHIKAN UNCOVERS THE SCANDAL OF THE DECADE: DUME, THE CITY’S TURAGA, IS ACTUALLY TERIDAX, THE LEADER OF THE MAKUTA, IN AN ATTEMPT TO COUP-DE-ETâT THE SHIT OUT OF THE GREAT SPIRIT. TO TRICK TERIDAX, LHIKAN FORGES A PROPHECY STATING THAT SIX SPECIFIC MATORAN WERE DESTINED TO BECOME METRU NUI'S NEW PROTECTORS. TERIDAX, BELIVING THE PROPHECY, CORRUPTED THESE SIX MATORAN IN AN ATTEMPT TO CONTROL 6 NEW TOA. LHIKAN, HOWEVER, GIVES THE MUTATIVE TOA STONES TO THE PREVIOUSLY DESTINED MATORAN, VAKAMA (FIRE) NOKAMA (WATER) WHENUA (EARTH) ONEWA (ROCK) MATAU (AIR) AND NUJU (ICE). AFTER DELIVERING THE FINAL STONE TO VAKAMA, LHIKAN IS ABDUCTED BY HIS FORMER TEAMMATE, THE MERCENARY NIDHIKI, WHO HAD BEEN HIRED BY TERIDAX, AND IMPRISONED. WHEN THE SIX NEW TOA MAKE THEIR FIRST APPEARANCES, THEY ARE CHASTISED BY DUME AS FRAUDS, AND ARE MADE TO FIND THE SIX GREAT DISKS TO PROVE THEIR WORTH AS TOA.
IN THEIR ATTEMPT TO FIND THE DISKS, THEY DEFEAT THE MORBUZAKH, A MASSIVE, BIOLOGICAL PLANT STATIONED IN THE FORGES OF TA-METRU. THE MORBUZAKH GRANTS VAKAMA A GREAT DISK, BUT WARNS HIM THAT DUME IS NOT ALL THAT HE SEEMS.
I DON'T WANT TO GO OVER THE ENTIRE 2ND MOVIE, BUT BASICALLY, VAKAMA MANAGES TO FORGE THE MASK OF TIME, WHICH SLOWS DOWN TIME. TURAGA DUME REVEALS HIMSELF AS TERIDAX AND ABSORBS THE TWO DARK HUNTERS HE HIRED AND KILLS THE SHIT OUT OF LHIKAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a soft spot for mask of light.
2004 PART III: THE TOA FIND OUT THAT TERIDUME HAS BEEN IMPRISONING MATORAN WHO THREATENED TO UPRISE AGAINST HIM IN MIND WIPING SPHERES, WHICH BESIDES ERASING THEIR MEMORIES DEFORMS THEM INTO SMALLER WEAK FORMS. MEANWHILE, MAKUTA TERIDAX WITH ALL THIS NEW POWER SKULL FUCKS MATA NUI INTO A COMA, WHICH CAUSES THE "GREAT CATACLYSM". THIS THROWS MATA NUI OUT OF ORBIT AROUND THE PLANET AQUA MAGNA AND SENDS HIM HURDLING INTO THE SEA. SETTING THE STAGE FOR THE 2001 STORYLINE. THE MATORAN UNIVERSE SUFFERS RUPTURES IN MANY PLACES, INCLUDING A NEWLY OPENED PASSAGE TO THE PLANET'S SURFACE AND THE ISLAND OF MATA NUI, AND A BREAK IN MATA NUI'S CHEST ABOVE KARDA NUI, CAUSING THE VOYA/MARHI NUI SPLIT, AND FLOODING MUCH OF THE CENTRAL PENINSULA OF THE UNIVERSE WITH MUTAGENIC WATER FROM THE OUTSIDE PLANET.
THE SIX TOA WATCH AS THIS HAPPENS AND CAN DO NOTHING TO STOP IT. THREATENED WITH DEATH, VAKAMA DECIDES TO TRY THE MASK OF TIME ON IN ORDER TO DISTRACT TERIDAX, AND THE SIX TOA ARE ABLE TO COMBINE THEIR POWERS AND IMPRISON THE MAKUTA IN A SOLID PROTODERMIS SHELL. THEY DECIDE TO BEGIN TRANSPORTING THE MATORAN TO THE SURFACE, AS METRU NUI HAS BEEN ALL BUT DESTROYED. THEY MAKE THE FIRST TRIP, LEAVE THE SPHERES ON THE BEACH OF TA-WAHI, AND RETURN DOWN TO PICK UP THE REST OF THE MATORAN SPHERES.
Can you cut it out with the capslock? It's kind of assaulting.
2005 (Told in the DTDVD Bionicle 3 Web of Shadows) IS LARGELY UNNECESSARY. ON THEIR RETURN TRIP, THE TOA FIND THAT METRU NUI HAS BEEN INFESTED BY VISORAK, AND MUST RECLAIM IT. THEY'RE MUTATED, BUT WITH THE AID OF KEETONGU, THE LAST OF A PEACEFUL RACE HUNTED BY THE VISORAK, AND THE RAHAGA, TOA HAGAH MUTATED INTO DIMINUTIVE CREATURES BY THE VISORAK, THE TOA ARE ABLE TO RECLAIM THE CITY AND DEFEAT THE VISORAK, TURNING BACK TO THEIR ORIGINAL FORMS. THE VISORAK QUEEN, HOWEVER, MANAGES TO FREE TERIDAX, WHO THEN IS FORCED RELINQUISH HIS BODY, TURNING INTO HIS NATURAL GASEOUS STATE, AND TRAVELS TOWARDS THE ISLAND OF MATA NUI TO FORMULATE THE REST OF HIS PLAN. THE TOA METRU RETURN THE REST OF THE MATORAN TO MATA NUI, AND BECOME TURAGA AFTER THEY USE THE REMAINDER OF THEIR TOA POWER TO OPEN THE SPHERES. A MATORAN NAMED JALLER AWAKES TO FIND HIS MASK BROKEN, AND IS GIVEN LHIKAN'S MASK AS A REPLACEMENT. THE RAHAGA ARE TRANSFORMED BACK INTO THEIR NORMAL FORM BY KEETONGU, AND BEGIN TO CLEAN UP METRU NUI. THEY FIND AWAKEN THE REAL TURAGA DUME, WHO ASSISTS THEM.
AFTER VAKAMA TELLS HIS SHITTY HOW-I-MET-YOUR-MOTHER-LENGTH STORY, THE TURAGA, MATORAN, AND TOA NUVA RETURN TO METRU NUI.
Nah let him. This is fun
If you say so.
2006 PART 1: YO! YO! PIRAKA! (Told in comics, and novels)
ONCE OUR SQUAD MAKES THEIR WAY TO METRU NUI, THEY ARE GREETED BY THE TOA HAGAH AND TURAGA DUME, TURAGA DUME REVEALS THAT MATA NUI ISN'T JUST ASLEEP, BUT THAT NIGGAS DYING, AND THE ONLY THING THAT CAN BRING HIM BACK IS THE MASK OF LIFE, AN ALL POWERFUL MASK, WHICH HAD BEEN PLACED IN THE VOLCANO OF THE ISLAND OF VOYA NUI DURING THE BUILDING OF MATA NUI BY THE GREAT BEINGS, THE CREATORS OF THE MATORAN UNIVERSE. THE TOA NUVA TRAVEL OVER TO VOYA NUI AND FIND THEMSELVES CONFRONTED BY THE PIRAKA, A GROUP OF THE SKAKDI RACE. THE PIRAKA WERE FORMER DARK HUNTERS WHO WENT ROGUE. THIS HAPPENED AFTER THE SIX OF THEM TRAVELLED TO MATA NUI
THIS WAS TERIDAX'S WAY OF GETTING TO THE MASK OF LIFE. THEY CARRIED HIS ANTIDERMIS IN ZAMOR SPHERES, AND AFTER ARRIVING AT VOYA NUI AND GAINING THE TRUST OF THE ISLAND'S DISFIGURED MATORAN BY PRETENDING TO BE TOA, THEY ENSLAVED THE MATORAN WITH THE ZAMOR SPHERES AND FORCED THEM TO MINE THE MOUNTAIN, PER TERIDAX'S ORDERS.THE TOA NUVA ARE EASILY DEFEATED BY THE PIRAKA'S SUPERIOR WEAPONRY AND ARE CAPTURED AND IMPRISONED. A COUPLE MONTHS AFTER THEIR DEPARTURE, JALLER BEGINS TO WORRY THAT THE TURAGA ARE HIDING INFORMATION AGAIN. SPEAKING TO MATORO, PART OF THE CHRONICLER'S COMPANY AND TURAGA NUJU'S TRANSLATOR, HE FINDS OUT THAT MATA NUI IS DYING AND DECIDES TO REUNITE THE COMPANY TO RESCUE THE TOA NUVA WITH TAKANUVA, HAHLI, HEWKII, NUPARU, MATORO, AND KONGU.
SHORTLY AFTER THE TURAGA AND MATORAN LEFT TO SCAVENGE PARTS FROM MAKUTA'S DEN. THERE, ONE OF THE MEMBERS WAS SPLIT INTO TWO DIFFERENT ENTITIES CALLED VEZOK AND VEZON WHILE FIDDLING WITH ONE OF TERIDAX'S PROTOTYPE WEAPONS. THEY TOOK A BUNCH OF THESE WEAPONS AS THEIR OWN, BUT WERE INFLUENCED BY TERIDAX'S GASEOUS FORM (ANTIDERMIS) TO TRAVEL TO VOYA NUI. ALSO THEY GOT A POWERUP FROM MAKUTA I THINK. I DONT REMEMBER.
2006 PART 2: (This was only in a book) OUR PLUCKY MATORAN AND TAKANUVA SET OFF ON FOOT UNTIL THEY COME TO THE END OF THE LANDBRIDGE, WHICH ENTERS A CAVERN. ABOVE THE CAVERN, THE WORDS "NO LIGHT MAY ENTER" ARE INSCRIBED, AND TAKANUVA CANNOT PROCEED. BIDDING HIS BEST FRIENDS GOODBYE, THE COMPANY CONTINUES WITHOUT THE TOA OF LIGHT. THEY PROCEED UNTIL THEY REACH THE END: THE ISLAND OF KARZAHNI.
KARZAHNI HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN ALLUDED TO IN THE LORE AS A HELLISH PLACE WHERE THE WORST MATORAN WERE SENT TO BE PUNISHED. HOWEVER, THIS WAS ONLY PARTIALLY CORRECT. KARZAHNI, NAMED AFTER ITS PATRON AND CARETAKER, WAS A PLACE MEANT TO REPAIR BROKEN DOWN AND LAZY MATORAN TO PREPARE THEM FOR WORK. AFTER MILLENNIA OF TOILING, THE BEING KARZAHNI WENT MAD AND BEGAN TO INSTEAD PUNISH THE MATORAN SENT THERE, ENSLAVING THEM AND RULING OVER THEM LIKE THE DEVIL. KARZAHNI FINDS THE CHRONICLER'S COMPANY AND ASSUMES THAT THEY WERE SENT BECAUSE OF LAZINESS, TAKING THEIR MASKS, REPLACING THEM WITH HODGEPODGE MASKS, AND THROWING THEM INTO HARD LABOR. THIS IS ESPECIALLY HARD FOR JALLER, WHO ONLY JUST FOUND OUT HIS PLACE AS LHIKAN'S LEGACY. HAHLI THE CHRONICLER TELLS KHARZANI OF THEIR TALES OUTSIDE AS A DISTRACTION WHILE THE REST OF THE COMPANY SEARCH FOR AN EXIT. THEY FIND SIX UNUSED TOA CANISTERS, AND IF A MATORAN IS TO RIDE IN ONE, THEY WOULD CERTAINLY DIE FROM THE ENERGY EXPOSURE. BUT THEY DECIDE FUCK IT AND RISK CERTAIN DEATH TO ESCAPE, AND THE SIX OF THEM SAIL AWAY TO VOYA NUI. ON THE JOURNEY, THEY ARE STRUCK BY A BOLT OF LIGHTNING FROM THE RED STAR, A CELESTIAL OBJECT. AS THEY WASH UP, THEY FIND THEMSELVES TO HAVE BEEN MUTATED INTO TOA. SAVING THEIR LIVES. THEY NOW EACH HAVE ELECTRICITY LACED WITHIN THEIR ELEMENTAL ABILITIES, LASER ENHANCED TOOLS (SWORDS, HARPOON, CLAWS, AXE, CROSSBOW, SWORD), AND THEIR MASKLESS HEADS NOW SHONE TOO BRIGHT TO SEE. THEY HAVE NEW MASK POWERS (LUCK, DETECTION OF THE MASK, FLIGHT, ACCURACY, TELEKENESIS, ASTRAL PROJECTION) AND ARE ALL AROUND BADASSES.
2006 PART 3: 2006 WAS A REALLY LONG YEAR. (this was told in comics+novels) THE TOA INIKA, ARRIVE ON THE THE ISLAND TO MEET SIX OF THE RESISTANCE MATORAN AND A BUFF MANLET NAMED AXON. THE MATORAN ON THIS ISLAND HAD BEEN "FIXED" BY KARZAHNI BEFORE THE CATACLYSM. AXON INFORMS THE TOA THAT HE AND HIS PARTNER BRUTAKA ARE PART OF THE ORDER OF MATA NUI, A SECRET SOCIETY TASKED WITH PRESERVING MATA NUI'S ORIGINAL GOAL. THIS GROUP, LEAD BY TOA HELRYX (THE FIRST TOA CREATED) AND CONSISTING OF MOST OF THE INFLUENTIAL MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSE. THEY’RE PRETTY MUCH THE ILLUMINATI BUT COOLER BECAUSE ROBOTS. AXON TELLS THE TOA THAT THE PIRAKA AND TERIDAX HAVE CORRUPTED BRUTAKA, AND NOW THE GROUP IS MINING DEEPER INTO THE MOUNTAIN TO REACH THE MASK OF LIFE. THE TOA FOLLOW THE PIRAKA DOWN INTO THE MOUNTAIN AND ARE CONFRONTED WITH A SERIES OF TASKS. FIRST, THEY FIND THE CHAMBER OF FEARS, WHERE THEIR GREATEST FEARS ARE MANIFESTED. NEXT, THE CHAMBER OF DEATH, WHERE THEY ARE ASKED TO SACRIFICE ONE OF THEIR OWN. JALLER OFFERS HIMSELF FOR SACRIFICE AND TELLS HEWKII TO TAKE OVER AFTER HIS DEATH, BUT HE IS STOPPED BY MATORO, WHO REASONS THAT WHILE JALLER IS THE TEAMS EXPERIENCED LEADER, MATORO IS JUST A TRANSLATOR AND HAS NOTHING TO OFFER THE TEAM. AFTER AN ARGUMENT, MATORO IS VAPORIZED, ONLY TO APPEAR SECONDS LATER, BEING TOLD THAT IT WAS SIMPLY THE WILLINGNESS TO BE SACRIFICED THAT WAS NEEDED, NOT THE ACT ITSELF.
AFTER A COUPLE MORE BLOODY FIGHTS WITH THE PIRAKA, THEY FINALLY REACH THE CHAMBER OF LIFE. IN THE CENTER OF THE CHAMBER IS VEZON! WE ALREADY WENT OVER HIM, THE EDGY PIRAKA WHO WAS THROWN OUT OF THE GROUP FROM BEING ACTUALLY INSANE. HE’S MUTATED TO BE PERMANENTLY STANDING ON TOP OF A GIANT SPIDER. THE MASK OF LIFE ITSELF IS FUSED TO VEZON'S HEAD!!!
2006 PART FOUR: IGNITION. IN ORDER TO GET THE MASK, THE TOA HAVE TO DEFEAT THE PAIR, BUT THE SPIDER ABSORBS ANY ATTACK! EVEN AGAINST ELEMENTAL! NO MATTER WHAT VEZON ISINSTANTLY REGENERATED BY THE MASK OF LIFE! JALLER EVENTUALLY DRIVES THE TWO INTO THE LAVA, AND BEFORE THE DUMB ASS TOA OF FIRE ATTEMPTED TO RETRIEVE THE MASK BY JUMPING IN HIMSELF, THEY REEMERGED, THE SPIDER TRANSFORMED INTO THE KARDAS DRAGON. IN A STROKE OF GENIUS, JALLER ASKED KONGU TO USE HIS NORMALLY USELESS MASK POWER, AND READ THE MIND OF THE SENTIENT MASK OF LIFE!
THIS REVEALED THAT THE MASK OF LIFE IS ACTUALLY RACIST AND HATED HAVING THAT SMELLY NIGGER AS ITS GUARDIAN, AND WOULD MUCH RATHER BE HERALDED BY SOMEONE LIKE MATORO, WHO HAD PROVEN HIMSELF A KIND, COMPASSIONATE WHITE MAN. VEZON, ENRAGED, LOST HIS ABILITY TO FOCUS ON HIS ENEMIES, AND ALLOWED JALLER THE OPPORTUNITY TO FREEZE HIM WITH A ZAMOR LAUNCHER GIVEN TO HIM BY AXON. MATORO RETRIEVED THE MASK, BUT THE PIRAKA WERE NEAR TO TRY AND STEAL IT, AND THE MASK FLED DOWN INTO THE OCEAN. THE INIKA DECIDED TO FOLLOW IT, AND AXON LEAD THEM TO A SECRET PASSAGEWAY TO MAHRI NUI, THE OTHER HALF OF VOYA NUI WHICH HAD BEEN SEPARATED DURING THE CATACLYSM.
WHILE THE INIKA SEARCHED LIKE DICKS FOR THE MASK IN THE MOUNTAIN, THE TOA NUVA HAD BEEN CHAINED UP IN A CAVE AND INFECTED WITH ANTIDERMIS, WHICH ROBBED THEM OF THEIR STRENGTH. THE TEAM OF MATORAN THAT WERE WORKING WITH THE INIKA TO DEFEAT THE PIRAKA FIND THEM WHILE TRYING TO FREE THEIR BRETHREN AND ARE ABLE TO HELP AXON HEAL THEM. THEY HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH AXON AND ANOTHER ORDER OF MATA NUI MEMBER NAMED BOTAR, WHO IS ESSENTIALLY THE WORLD'S POLICE OFFICER AND TRANSPORTS CRIMINALS INTO THE PIT, AN UNDERWATER PRISON, AND ARE INFORMED ABOUT THE SECRET SOCIETY. AXON AND BOTAR SEND THE NUVA ON A MISSION TO COMPLETE A LIST OF TASKS WHICH MUST BE MET BEFORE MATA NUI IS AWAKENED, AND THE NUVA RECONCILE WITH THE INIKA, PARTING WAYS ONCE AGAIN AS THE INIKA SINK BELOW THE WAVES.
2007: SCUBA FISH PIRATES (Told in a novel)
THE INIKA BEGAN TO TRAVEL DOWN TO "MAHRI NUI", THE OTHER HALF OF VOYA NUI WHICH, STILL IN THE MATORAN UNIVERSE, WAS FLOODED DURING THE CATACLYSM. MAHRI NUI WAS LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE PIT, AN AREA WHICH WAS THE UNIVERSE'S MOST SECURE PRISON BEFORE THE CATACLYSM. AFTER, HOWEVER, AS THE PIT FLOODED AND ITS INHABITANTS BEGAN TO MUTATE, THE PRISON'S ROBOTIC GUARDS, THE MAXILLOS DRONES, WERE QUICKLY OVERRUN BY THE INMATES AND THE AREA TURNED INTO AN AQUATIC NO-MAN'S LAND. THE INIKA'S JOURNEY IS INTERRUPTED BY TERIDAX, WHO POSSESSES HAHLI IN ORDER TO LOCATE THE MASK OF LIFE USING HER MASK POWER. HE BEGINS TO BODY-HOP UNTIL THE CAVERN IS FLOODED BY A GIANT EEL CONSTRICTING AROUND IT. THE MASK OF LIFE FEELS THIS, AND SENDS OUT A BEACON TO SAVE HIS FAVORITE TOA TEAM, GLORIOUSLY TRANSFORMING THEM INTO FISH PEOPLE AND GRANTING THEM NEW MASKS. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS MUTATES THEIR WEAPONS AND ELEMENTAL POWERS TOO, GETTING RID OF THE NEAT ELECTRIC AND LASER ABILITIES. OH WELL, THEY UNDERWATER NOW.
THE FISH PEOPLE TOA WHO HAVE NOT YET EARNED THE NAME TOA MARHI BUT WE’LL JUST CALL THEM TOA MARHI NOW ANYWAYS CRASH LAND IN MAHRI NUI, WHICH IS SURROUNDED BY A LARGE AIR BUBBLE. THE MATORAN, NOTABLY A ROCK MATORAN NAMED DEKAR, GO OUT OFTEN TO FARM THE AIR BUBBLES IN ORDER TO SUSTAIN THE CITY'S AIR SUPPLY. BY THE TIME THE MAHRI HAD ARRIVED, THE AIR BUBBLE FIELDS HAD BEEN OVERTAKEN BY THE BARRAKI, FORMER PIRATES AND GANGSTERS FROM EONS AGO WHO HAD BEEN IMPRISONED IN THE PIT AND GROSSLY MUTATED. THEY RULED OVER THEIR DOMAIN, AND HAD BEEN TERRORIZING THE MAHRI NUI COMMUNITY. BEING A BAND OF FORMER WAR LORDS FROM THE EARLY DAYS OF MATA NUI'S EXISTENCE, THEY KNEW THE POWER OF THE MASK OF LIFE, AND, UPON HEARING OF ITS ARRIVAL, BEGAN TO SEARCH FOR IT.
Thank you user, this is way longer than I expected it to be.
2007 PART 2: FUCK THE OCEAN (Told in just books) FEELING THREATENED, THE MASK BEGAN TRANSFORMING LOCAL CREATURES INTO PROTECTORS, NOTABLY A SMALL RAHI GOT TRANSFORMED INTO A MONSTER NAMED GADUNIGGA WHICH RAMPAGED AROUND THE SEA FLOOR. THE TOA MAHRI WERE TOLD THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE TRUSTED BY THE MATORAN UNLESS THEY CLEARED OUT THE AIRFIELD AND MADE IT SAFE AGAIN. WHILE THE REST OF THE TOA WENT ON THEIR MISSIONS, MATORO STAYED BACK LIKE A TRUE BRO TO GUARD THE FORT.
DEKAR, THAT AIR FARMING PO-MATORAN YOU PROBABLY FORGOT ABOUT, WAS CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE, AND TRANSFORMED INTO THE PIT'S NOW-DEAD FORMER JAILER, HYDRAXON. HYDRAXON, A MASTER OF WEAPONRY AND THE ORIGINAL TRAINER OF THE TOA MATA DURING THEIR CREATION, WAS KILLED DURING THE CATACLYSM. HYDRAXON-2, FORMERLY DEKAR, BEGAN TO ASSUME HIS PREDECESSOR'S JOB, THROWING ANY SENTIENT BEINGS BACK INTO THE PIT'S JAIL LIKE OLD TIMES.
THE REST OF THE MAHRI FIND THE BARRAKI, WHO THEMSELVES ARE CONVINCED THAT THE MAHRI ARE CRIMINALS. HAHLI PLAYS THEM AND CONVINCES THEM TO TRUST HER IN ORDER TO PRESERVE THE INTEREST OF THE TEAM. THE MATORAN BACK HOME WITNESS THIS, ASSUME THAT THE TOA ARE JUST AS BAD AS THE BARRAKI, AND ALMOST RUN MATORO OUT OF THE CITY. BUT NOT BEFORE HYDRAXON FINDS MATORO GUARDING MAHRI NUI, AND JAILS HIM UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT HE WAS AN ESCAPED CONVICT FROM THE PIT. HE PLACES MATORO UNDER THE GUARD OF A RECOMMISSIONED MAXILLOS ROBOT, WHO REVEALS HIMSELF TO BE NONE OTHER THAN OUR BEST FRIEND MAKUTA TERIDAX. TERIDAX FREES MATORO UNDER THE CONDITION THAT HE BE ABLE TO HELP THE INIKA ON THEIR MISSION TO RECLAIM THE MASK FROM THE BARRAKI. MATORO ACCEPTS, AND THE TWO PROCEED TO FIGHT OFF THE BARRAKI AND REDEEM THEIR TEAM IN THE EYES OF THE MAHRI-TORAN. "MAXILLOS" CONVINCES THE TOA TO SPLIT UP IN ORDER TO DEFEAT THE BARRAKI. EACH GROUP OF THE TEAM GO AND SOW THE SEEDS OF CHAOS AMONG THE PIRATES, CONVINCING EACH ONE TO WAGE WAR AGAINST THE OTHERS. THE AREA IS TURNED INTO A WARZONE BETWEEN ALL THE BARRAKI.
2007: YOU CAN FUCK MY WIFE MATORO
AT THIS POINT, TERIDAX'S PLAN HINGED ON THE MAHRI KEEPING MATA NUI ALIVE. IF MATA NUI DIED WITH MAKUTA SO FAR AWAY FROM METRU NUI, THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE WOULD SHUT DOWN BEFORE HE COULD ASSUME CONTROL. HE TELLS MATORO THAT, TO KEEP MATA NUI ALIVE THEY MUST DESTROY THE CORD THEY TRAVELLED TO MAHRI NUI IN AND REUNITE THE TWO FRAGMENTS OF THE ISLAND. HOWEVER, IF THEY DO THIS, THEY WOULD DESTROY EVERYTHING ON MAHRI NUI. THE TOA MUST THEN TRAVEL UP THE CORD WITH THE MAHRI-TORAN TO FERRY THEM TO VOYA NUI, THEN BACK DOWN TO DESTROY THE CORD AND DEFEAT THE BARRAKI.
THEY ENCOUNTER THE PIRAKA SOMEWHERE ALONG THE LINE, WHO HAD MUTATED INTO SNAKE LIKE BEINGS BECAUSE OF THE WATER. NOTHING REALLY SPECIAL HAPPENS. ANYWAY, THEY SAVE THE MATORAN AND FIND OUT THAT THE BARRAKI HAVE FINISHED THEIR OWN WARS AND DECIDED TO TURN AGAINST THE TOA.
DURING THE ENSUING BATTLES, MATA NUI DRAWS CLOSER TO DEATH, THE MAHRI FIND OUT THAT MAXILLOS IS MAKUTA AND THAT MATORO KNEW, THEY DECIDE TO SHUN MATORO, WHO MANAGES TO STEAL THE MASK OF LIFE FROM THE BARRAKI, REDEEMING HIMSELF. TERIDAX DIRECTS MATORO TO THE ENTRANCE TO MATA NUI'S HEART, KARDA NUI, AND THE REST OF HIS TEAM SOMBERLY GUARDS THE ENTRANCE FROM THE BARRAKI. VOYA/MAHRI NUI IS REUNITED.
IN A LAST DITCH ATTEMPT TO WARD OFF THE BARRAKI, JALLER, WITH THE PERMISSION OF HIS TEAMMATES, DECIDES TO UNLEASH A NOVA BLAST, THE MOST POWERFUL ELEMENTAL ATTACK POSSIBLE FROM A TOA, WHICH WOULD KILL EVERYTHING IN THE AREA, INCLUDING HIMSELF, BUT KEEP MATORO AND THE MASK SAFE.
MATORO MAKES HIS WAY INTO KARDA NUI.
JUST IN TIME FOR MATA NUI TO DIE. IN ORDER TO JUMP START THE "ELECTRICAL STORM" THAT KEEPS MATA NUI ALIVE, MATORO PUTS ON THE MASK OF LIFE, KILLING HIMSELF, BUT SAVING THE UNIVERSE. HIS FINAL WISH TO THE MASK TRANSPORTS HIS FRIENDS BACK TO METRU NUI'S SHORES, FORCING JALLER TO SUPPRESS HIS NOVA BLAST.
MATORO DIED FOR YOUR SINS.

2007: WAKE ME UP WHEN 2007 ENDS EDITION (Told only online)
THE TOA NUVA HAD A COUPLE JOBS TO DO. MAKING THEIR WAY BACK TO METRU NUI AND NARROWLY AVOIDING A SCOLDING BY THE TURAGA COUNCIL, THEY MAKE THEIR WAY INTO THE CITY'S GREAT TEMPLE AND FIND A SCROLL WHICH OUTLINES THEIR FOLLOWING MISSIONS. FIRST, THEY HAVE TO FREE THE BOHROK AND THE BAHRAG CAHDOK AND GAHDOK SO THEY COULD CLEANSE MATA NUI. THIS WENT ABOUT AS SMOOTHLY AS YOU'D EXPECT, AND THEY PROCEEDED TO THEIR NEXT TASK.
SO WHILE ALL THAT’S BEEN GOING DOWN, HERE’S WHAT THE OG TOA NUVA HAVE BEEN DOING: THEY NEEDED TO FIND WHAT WAS CALLED THE STAFF OF ARTAKHA. ARTAKHA IN THEIR MYTHOLOGY WAS THE GREAT CREATOR, WHO MADE TECHNOLOGY AND ADVANCED SOCIETY. HE WAS THE DIRECT OPPOSITE OF KARZAHNI, WHO SERVED TO DESTROY. ANYWAY, THE SCROLL SAID THE STAFF WOULD BE AT THE HOMEBASE OF THE DARK HUNTERS, BUT IT WASN'T, AND THE NUVA HAD TO FIGHT THEIR WAY OUT. POHATU GOES APE AND, UPON ESCAPING, BLOWS THE FUCK OUT OF THE ENTIRE ISLAND, BRINGING THE ENTIRE THING TO THE GROUND. THEY HEAD TO IT'S NEW LOCATION, BUT FOUND THAT IT HAD BEEN STOLEN BY MAKUTA ICARAX, THE MAKUTA WHO HAD TAKEN OVER TERIDAX'S ROLE DURING THESE EVENTS. THEY PROCEED WITH THE REST OF THE TASKS, KOPAKA AND TAHU STOP A BUNCH OF VOLCANOES FROM ERUPTING, GALI FINDS OUT THAT THE RED STAR IS ALIVE, AND POHATU AND ONUA RETRIEVE THE "HEART OF THE VISORAK" WHICH THEY CAN USE TO CONTROL THE SWARMS. THE NUVA THEN MADE A TRIP TO KARZAHNI (REMEMBER THATR FUN PLACE?)TO RETRIEVE LHIKAN'S MASK, AND UPON WITNESSING THE BRUTALITY OF THE LAND, GALI OVER REACTS LIKE A PMSING BITCH AND UNLEASHED A NOVA BLAST, DESTROYING THE ENTIRE REGION.
THIS WAS, OF COURSE, AFTER THEY HAD EVACUATED ALL THE MATORAN AND THE TOA CLEARED THE AREA. LEWA FINDS THE OLD SUNDIAL FROM MNOG THE FLASH GAME, WHICH HE SAID MAY HOLD SOME SECRETS, AND THEY ARE ALL TRANSPORTED TO ARTAKHA'S REALM, WHERE THEY RECEIVE COOL JET PACKS AND CLARITY ABOUT THEIR CREATION
2008: 2007 PART 2, FLYING BOOGALOO (Told in books and comics)
THE NUVA LEARN THAT THEY WERE CREATED AS A FAILSAFE TO WAKE MATA NUI IN CASE OF AN ERROR. THEY THEN LEARN THAT, WHEN THE GREAT SPIRIT ENCOUNTERED THIS ERROR 1,000 YEARS AGO, THEIR CANISTERS WERE LAUNCHED, BUT THE HOMING BEACON HAD SHAKEN APART ON THE ISLAND OF MATA NUI, LEAVING THEM IN EXTENDED STASIS FOR A MILLENNIUM. TAKUA, STILL THE CHRONICLER, SUMMONED THEM ACCIDENTALLY BY RECONSTRUCTING THE BEACON, BUT THEIR TIME IN THE CANISTERS HAD ERASED THEIR MEMORIES. THEY ARE THEN TRANSPORTED TO KARDA NUI, AND SO BEGINS 2008. THE AIR JORDAN YEAR.
ALMOST RIGHT AFTER GETTING THE SWEET JET PACKS, THE TOA NUVA GET TELIPORTED INTO KARDA NUI. NOW KARDA NUI IS PRETTY MUCH A HUGE CAVERN, EVEN WIDER THAN YOUR MOM. IT'S MATA NUI'S HEART, AND THE ELECTRICAL STORMS INSIDE IT SIMULATE A HEART BEAT. THESE WERE JUST KICKSTARTED BY MATORO, WHO IF YOU REMEMBER JUST SACRIFICED HIMSELF FOR THE GREATEST GOOD OF ALL. ANYWAY, TERIDAX PULLED A LORDE, SENT THE CALL OUT TO HIS COMRADES, AND TOLD THEM TO HUSTLE THEIR DAMN WAYS TO KARDA NUI SO THEY COULD WIN THIS SHIT. USING SHADOW LEACHES, THE SIX MAKUTA BEGIN TO TRANSFORM THE LIGHT MATORAN NATIVE TO THE AREA INTO SHADOW MATORAN. THE BOTTOM OF THE CAVERN, DUE TO MILLENNIA OF MUTAGENIC WATER BEING POURED DOWN BECAUSE OF THE CATACLYSM, HAD BECOME INTO A HUGE SWAMP, WHICH MUTATED THREE OF THE MAKUTA INTO INSECTOID LOOKING BASTARDS.
SO THE TOA NUVA ARRIVE ON THE SCENE A LITTLE LATE, AND FIND THE STATE OF THE CITY TO BE KIND OF FUCKED. THEY SPLIT UP, WITH POHATU, LEWA, AND KOPAKA TAKING TO THE SKIES TO TRY AND SAVE THE MATORAN, AND TAHU, ONUA, AND GALI GOING DOWN TO THE SWAMP TO FIND THE CODREX AND THE IGNIKA, TWO THINGS THEY HAD TO REUNITE TO WAKE UP MATA NUI.
2008: 2009 PREQUEL PART ONE: TAKANUVA’S WILD RIDE (Only told in an online serial)
SO, WHAT’S BEEN GOING ON WITH THAT HOMO TAKANUVA? WELL HE WAS TASKED WITH KEEPING METRU NUI SAFE. HOWEVER, MAKUTA ICARAX, THE INTERIM LEADER OF THE BROTHERHOOD OF MAKUTA, CHALLENGED HIM TO AN AGNI-KAI AND HIT TAKA WITH A SHADOW LEECH, THE THINGS WHICH TRANSFORM LIGHT ELEMENTALS INTO SHADOW ELEMENTALS!!! QUICK REFLEXES ALLOWED TAKANUVA TO REMOVE THE LEECH BEFORE BEING TURNED INTO A SHADOW TOA, BUT HE WAS TOO SLOW TO PRESERVE HIS OLD SELF. HE NOW HAD THE ABILITY TO CONTROL BOTH LIGHT AND SHADOW, AND BECAUSE HE’S ALSO A TOTAL FAGGOT, IS DUBBED THE TOA OF TWILIGHT. REALLY TUMBLR TEIR MOVES. ORDER OF MATA NUI MEMBERS BRUTAKA, HELRYX, AND KRAKUA ORDERED TAKANUVA TO EMBARK ON A MISSION TO HELP THE TOA NUVA IN KARDA NUI. BRUTAKA, WHO HAD THE MASK OF DIMENSIONAL PORTALS TRIED TO OPEN A PORTAL TO KARDA NUI, BUT, DAMAGED BY HIS PRIOR FIGHT WITH AXONN, HE ACCIDENTALLY SENT TAKANUVA TO A DIFFERENT, SOMEHOW MORE FUCKED DIMENSION.
FIRST, HE WINDS UP IN A UNIVERSE WHERE MATORO DIDN'T SAVE MATA NUI AND THE ENTIRE PLACE WENT TO SHIT, WHERE HE FOUND THIS VERSION OF BRUTAKA AND GOT ROCKETED OFF TO ANOTHER DIMENSION.
NEXT, A PLACE WHERE TOA LHIKAN'S (MEMBER HIM?)FORMER TEAMMATE TUYET WHOM HE WAS FORCED TO KILL HAD ACTUALLY CONQUERED THE UNIVERSE AND WAS OPERATING A "TOA EMPIRE". A LOT OF SHIT HAPPENS HERE, THE MAKUTA ARE GOOD GUYS, AND IT ENDS WITH TAKANUVA GETTING THROWN INTO A PORTAL BACK TO HIS OWN WORLD TO FIND THE TOA NUVA. HE ENDED UP IN KARDA NUI AND, BEING THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE AND HOME TO THE MOST LIGHT ENERGY, ENDED UP GROWING TO A MASSIVE 19.99 SIZED SET.
2008: REUNITED AND IT FELT SO GOOD
MEANWHILE, THE MASK OF LIFE HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE SWAMP FOR A COOL MINUTE AND SENSES ENEMIES NEARBY. IT DECIDES "WELL, GODDAMN IF THAT MATORO GUY WASN'T GREAT. I WANNA BE LIKE HIM. FUCK IT, I'M A TOA NOW!". HE GROWS A BODY FOR HIMSELF AND JETS THE FUCK OUT OF THERE, WHERE HE MEETS UP WITH THE FLYING GROUP.
THE TOA NUVA ALL MADE THEIR WAY DOWN TO THE SWAMP TO OPEN THE CODREX, WAKE UP MATA NUI, AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE BEFORE THE DAMN PLACE WENT UP IN LIGHTNING STORMS. MEANWHILE, TAKANUVA JOINS UP WITH THEM AND EXHIBITS HIS NEW SHADOW POWERS, WHICH THE REST OF THE NUVA OBJECT TO. THEY FIND A CURE FOR THE SHADOW MATORAN ACCIDENTALLY, AND TRY TO ROUND UP THE MAKUTA. TERIDAX ORDERS ALL HIS MEN TO GO DOWN THERE AND KILL THE NUVA, WHICH IS UNSUCCESSFUL.
ALSO DURING THEIR TIME IN THE SWAMP, THE TOA LEARN THAT BOHROK ARE JUST AV-MATORAN WHO HAVED DIED. LIKE THE END OF AN AV-MATORAN'S DESTINY IS SIGNIFIED BY THEIR TELEPORTATION TO THEIR TELEPORTATION TO THE ISLAND OF MATA NUI, TRANSFORMING INTO MINDLESS AUTOMATONS IN THE PROCESS, MAKING THEM TRULY THE BROTHERS OF THE TOA. IM VERY HIGH AND JUST AS CONFUSED AS YOU ARE.
2008 PART 4: END OF THE STORY! FINALLY! (books + Comic) THE NUVA OPEN THE CODREX AND FIND IT TO BE A HUGE ARMORY WITH A BUNCH OF CONTROLS TO REAWAKEN MATA NUI. THE MAKUTA ANTROZ WAS ABLE TO INFILTRATE THE CODREX WHILE THE TOA ENTERED, AND STOLE ONE OF THE AERIAL VEHICLES INSIDE CALLED THE JETRAX. LEWA AND POHATU WENT TO RECLAIM THE VEHICLE WHILE GALI AND TAHU ATTEMPTED TO SORT OUT THE CODREX'S CONTROLS AND WAKE UP MATA NUI.
WHEN LEWA AND POHATU HAD RETURNED, THE COLD-HEARTED GALI HAD FIGURED OUT THAT THE ONLY WAY TO REACTIVATE MATA NUI WOULD BE TO HAVE THE TOA IGNIKA SACRIFICE ITSELF. THOUGH HE WAS ENJOYING HIS NEWFOUND LIFE, THE IGNIKA OBLIGED, USING MATORO AS THE MODEL FOR MARTYRDOM. RIP IN PEACE.
IGNIKA’S SACRIFICE CAUSES A LIGHTNING STORM TO START IN KARDA NUI, AND THE TOA ESCAPE THE CAVERN ON THE VEHICLES FROM THE CODREX. THEY MAKE THEIR WAY BACK TO METRU NUI, WHERE THEY PREPARE TO CELEBRATE THE REAWAKENING OF THEIR GREAT SPIRT.
AS THE FESTIVITIES BEGIN IN METRU NUI, WITH THE AV-MATORAN UNITING WITH THE MATORAN FROM METRU NUI, AND THE TOA NUVA FINALLY MEETING UP WITH THE TOA MAHRI, TOA HAGAH, AND THE TURAGA, A BOOMING VOICE COMES FROM THE SKY.
yum yum i love word salads
TERIDAX HAD THIS ALL PLANNED OUT FROM THE START. ANY MAKUTA IN KARDA NUI WERE INSTANTLY VAPORIZED WHEN THE LIGHTNING STORM STARTED, GETTING RID OF MOST OF HIS COMPETITION. NOW, HE WAS FREE TO CONTINUE WITH HIS PLAN WITH NO OPPOSITION...
TERIDAX ANNOUNCES THAT HE HAD TAKEN OVER HIS "BROTHER" MATA NUI'S BODY, AND THAT HE WAS NOW IN CONTROL OF THE UNIVERSE. HE PROCEEDS TO DESTROY DESTRAL, THE HOME OF THE MAKUTA SPECIES, ELIMINATING ANYBODY WHO COULD STAND UP TO HIM, AND SEALED (DOWNLOADED?)THE SOUL OF MATA NUI INSIDE THE KANOHI IGNIKA, WHICH HE PROMPTLY THREW INTO SPACE.
CONDEMNED TO DRIFT AMONGST THE STARS AIMLESSLY FOR AN ETERNITY.
THE END. HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE LOUD STORYTIME.

Good thread.

Would Reddit spacing be more your style?
It's so stupid because the 06 character designs were probably the closest to Imax-verse aesthetics and we never got anything out of it. Hell, even the video game had renders that would've been the perfect bridge between the look of the toys and the films. I remember being a kid and thinking "there's no way they wouldn't make a movie with these designs, it'd be so easy." And then nothing. I never even bothered with TLR because I was so pissed they abandoned the organic look of the original trilogy.
It's for the best, Legend Reborn kinda sucked. It's the weakest of the movies. Although while I agree with you in that I'm disappointed in how they dropped the art direction, it still has good animation. Gotta give it that.
Never mind. Watching a rip on YouTube and it doesn't hold up at all.
Kopaka was my first Toa figure. We ended up buying him twice because I brought him to a playground and lost a gear piece when his arm fell off. In retrospect, we could have saved money by looking online for parts, but I'm just gonna blame 9/11.
In any case, Pohatu became my favorite after a while. This may or may not be why I ship him and Gali.
Pohatu was a real nigga. What was your first toa?
Kopaka was my first Toa figure. We ended up buying him twice because I brought him to a playground and lost a gear piece when his arm fell off. In retrospect, we could have saved money by looking online for parts, but I'm just gonna blame 9/11.
user I'm asking the first Toa you slept with.
Oh, I never slept with any Toa. I'd always have them arranged on my shelf or probably just lying around on the floor.
Now they're all in my basement. If I had the time, I'd try my hand at rebuilding all of them. I also need to find my old Takanuva set. I have no idea what happened to it but I know that I had it.
Do try looking at some of the material itself sometime, this long text is pretty alright as a summary but it misses out on stuff as any summary of a very large work or works is bound to do.
And it's also missing the entire ending.
>no Piraka movie
>no movie based on the most articulated lines of Bionicle
>tfw the closest we got was shitty music commercials with a meme rap and all american rejects
What, the part about it all being Teridax's plan? That's below the one user's mass-reply, unless you mean the part about Bara Magna.
Yeah, Bara Magna was really important. Important enough it got a movie.
MOVE ALONG MOVE ALONG LIKE I KNOW YA DO
AND EVEN IF YOUR HOPE IS GONE, MOVE ALONG, MOVE ALONG JUST TO MAKE IT tHROUGH!!!!
I like how Nuparu is all RAWR with his claw
Would have fried their computers if they stuck close to canon where he's a perpetually shifting and undulating army of bugs.
>called "the snake"
>actually a bunch of bugs
user that asked for the summary here. Made a shitty cap in case anyone else wants it
I didn't really like the original artstyle. It didn't look much like the real toys.
>sets have rubber faces and mouths to better suit animation requirements
>larger sets actually have hands and fingers
>minimal, if any, redesign needed to translate the toys into animation models
>no movie because they fucked up the marketing for the previous two so bad that no one outside the fanbase watched them
>make video game instead that spits in the face of canon and completely ignores plot, continuity, characters and established powers in favor of comedy and dull gameplay
My sister slept with one of my bionicles as if it was a plushie, I couldn't do anything about it because my mum said it was fine.
Tbh, that would be pretty painful. It's like stepping on a lego brick but while sleeping.
great sets and concept art
godawful everything else
anyone have the mega for these and have they rerendered these movies in a higher quality yet? ive notice a bunch of niche 3D animated titles are getting remastered
There's fan-made "remasters" on YT, but they're based on the usual DVD rips ran through some filters. I very much doubt any company will ever touch these films again. It was almost a miracle that we got the soundtracks for them a couple years ago, and that was only cause the composer is a great guy and he's on good terms with Bionicle fans.
Why is this fandom so autistic?
it actually scares me
It's super niche and obscure and only the most dedicated fans still care about it. And Russians.
It also happened to attract a lot of home-schooled religious kids who had messy upbringings.

What did you expect? It was 2009 DTV CGI made by the guys who did Foodfight (albeit farmed to Taiwan like the original trilogy)
Legend Reborn also had some nice casting.
Well I was religious and homeschooled and I was a huge fan, but I don't get the correlation.
A wise decision considering every attempt would pale in comparison to OG Pohatu
Normies; Tahu and Lewa

Autists: Kopaka
Real ass niggas: Pohatu and Onua
A surprising number of users on the BZP forums were devout Christians, including at least one staff member who is a religious lunatic. Some other people suggested they were barred from certain other popular franchises by their strict parents, but they were allowed to like Bionicle because it was Lego, hence why there were so many of them on the site.
That's terrifying

What was the point of the Mask Of Life getting a Toa body, then Mata Nui getting one?
Would have been more interesting if the two personalities were fighting for control over the mask, but that's too confusing for kids and the type of simple generic story they wanted to tell.
But like, imagine if Mata Nui lost his shit at one point, and the mask took over, turning Mata Nui's sand body into a reflection of the "swirling parts" Makuta from MNOG. That could have had some cool symbolic meaning.
They thought the series was ending in 2008, but then Lego decided not to pull the plug, so they had to come up with something else

>HE ENDED UP IN KARDA NUI AND, BEING THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE AND HOME TO THE MOST LIGHT ENERGY, ENDED UP GROWING TO A MASSIVE 19.99 SIZED SET.
This was based as hell.
Kratos kratos kratos kratos kratos kratos
How did that work, anyway? Didn't the Great Spirit Robot just slam into an entire planet a mere thousand years before?
It really doesn't hold up at all. I was thinking the same thing. But I guess his "computer brain" was in the head, and the head was smashed.
the crash beat him up pretty good still I suppose. Then you might argue that he landed in water and that made a difference, that maybe Mata Nui still had some kind of emergency systems to soften a crash landing if he ever conked out, etc
And crashing is one thing, having Aqua Magna slam into his head is another
First of all, they completed it before food fight technically. Second, I remember it being pretty alright as a kid. But childhood memories are a hell of a drug.
It's a good lore.
It's not the WORST thing
But it's severely underwhelming. All of the bionicle movies are in some sense because of some limitation or another. Getting a balls to the walls unchained bonkle movie would be a wild ride
I thought Greg retconned it to be a "fragment of a moon" rather than one of the whole moons.
Oh man it would be awesome. I'd kill for a live action/hybrid movie chronicalling the first few years of story.
The circumstances were different and there's a lot of contradictions in the media. When Mata Nui fell, he landed with his entire body in water, so the impact force wasn't as big (despite the Mata Nui saga showing him "bouncing" on water like a skipping stone). It still messed him up pretty bad, since that was when the Great Cataclysm hit and Metru Nui (his brain) went to ruin.
When Makuta controlled the robot and his head was smashed, the planet fragments around him were being pulled toward him with great force thanks to his gravity power, and then Mata Nui pushed him even harder onto one of the oncoming fragments. In the comic, it was a relatively small chunk that hit him, it was only shows as an entire planet in the Mata Nui saga.
That's one reason it was so disappointing that they stopped making movie for years after the 3rd one. Compared to the 1st, you can see that the creators had much more freedom and the violence guidelines have loosened up considerably. Then they just plain stopped making them, and by the time The Legend Reborn came around, it was again dumbed down kiddy shit that totally went against the darker and more serious tone from the books at the time.
If you were a Toa, which mask would you wear?
Huna
Yeah, I know that, I'm just saying is that you shouldn't go in with high expectations.
I think that can be attributed to the writing staff between the trilogy and TLR. As the duo of the former didn't return for the Threshold movie, just the overseas studio who animated it for them.
Legend Reborn 2 would've been a road trip movie with the antagonists being the elemental gods.
The third would've had dinosaurs and the stars final battle.
I think we were robbed senpai

>if lego ever reboots bionicle again:
>they should focus on being "Osmosis Jones"/"Cells at Work" but with robots on an island, as was the original concept.
With The Toa essentially being Antibiotics, antibodies, or some other medicine fighting "disease" that hurts the body... this should be the "subtext" that underlies most of the development/planning on the series.
That was more or less what they went with for G1, isn't it? They just did a good job at keeping things subtle up until the big reveal.
I think they could certainly use some of the old concepts though to hint at things again, like the finger islands that Faber wanted to include.
what I'm saying is plan it out ahead of time better, and redesign stuff so it follows a similar pattern of design from the start.
idk; maybe also have some focus on allowing for the kinds of accessories and shit that other "action figure"-lines have.
(like more vehicles, more animals, etc.)
main this is "G1 but smoother" it's been almost a decade, they can reboot it and repeat it beat for beat.
they did a reboot
>tfw found a mint condition OG pohatu in a box in my house even though I don't ever remember getting him
Anyone have the rest of these?
I still wonder if that Mask of Time thing they showed hints of were planned from the start or something thrown in at the end in an attempt to save it by drawing in older fans with hints of crossovers with G1.
>Some other people suggested they were barred from certain other popular franchises by their strict parents
If that's the case it's probably only because the parents had no idea Lego could have lore or anything. If someone told them that those toys are about magic and gods they'd probably all end up in the trash.
Very jealous, those are rare. Hold onto that my guy. In a decade I bet that'll be worth a grand.
>first batch of Bionicle logos was the infected Great Hau, the closest thing to a symbol for Makuta at the time, merged/overlayed with the island of Matu-Nui
>later we learn the island is covering the Great Spirit Matu-Nui's head
>Makuta takes the body over, in essence infecting him like he did with those masks on the Rahi and others years and years ago
>this whole time those first logos were foreshadowing Makuta taking over Matu-Nui
We don't know what the moon was made out of.
Y'know BIONICLE is such a weird name for an epic sci-fi saga when you think about it.
bio - bio robot - nnicle nicle force
BIOlogic chroNICLE
Name ONE thing wrong with the Hordika.
latter, but with the artstyle of Legend reborn. I liked them more on-model.
Actually no, 2002 was told as comics and online animations IN THE STYLE OF mnog. Early-2003 also had the animations, while late-2003 had the game sequel.
Minor tangent, but 2004 also had little military propaganda shorts for the Vahki, also in this same style. They stopped after this for god knows what reason.
Also, don't skimp out on the novels for 2004-2005. They're fucking good.
2001-2003 had novels too, which aren't bad either. However they're not mandatory, and are more of an alternate interpretation, rather than more story.
I liked em. some argue the arms are too gimmicky i guess, idk.
They're not bad at all I'd say.
desu I think Bionicle lost the magic by at least 2005/Toa Hordika, maybe even 2003. Nothing ever matched the atmosphere of OG Mata Nui, though Metru Nui was at least cool in its own way.
Voya/Mahri Nui was baller doe
I wish we learned more about the location the 2007 story takes place in. We only really learned about The Pit and along with the Matoran village but even then only vaguely.
Metru Nui was a breath of fresh air. Switching out the tropical aesthetic for a much more science fiction one while still retaining the same spirit. That was a secret to Bionicles longevity, it constantly switched it up it's inspiration (dark and gritty, under the sea, motherfucking gladiators) but still had its soul intact.
My big problem was the feet. Everything else was fine.
Dude... you just blew my mind.
I'll fully admit that there might have been great stuff to come after the point I stopped following things, and I did really love the idea of the limited scope fantasy setting just being an ignorant speck in a grander sci-fi setting. However, I kind of felt like after that point the tone and general vibe started to lose that grave, "mythopoetic" quality I loved and found really unique about Bionicle.
>4k60fpsHDR

what in the goddamn
The ripcord for the spinners didn't integrate as well as the other gimmicks.
How long till Lego decides to do something like this again?
Maybe when the president and most of the higher-ups are gone, word is they hate anything that isn't bricks and resent Bionicle for being so successful even though it saved the company.
OH SHIT NIGGA
I choose to believe it was coincidence but damn nigga
Oh, well to be fair I believe the main guy left around 2005 and the dude that was writing the books ended up taking the lead on the overall story. That's probably why you feel that way. I like the latter years more than the original just because the plot was kicked into high gear and things started to pay off. And the McMatoran becoming the new Toa team 6 years after the story started was a stroke of genius and a testament to the character growth in a fucking Lego line of all places.
It's not. The big plot points were figured early on. I think the reveal was supposed to actually happen in 2002 but got pushed when they decided to keep going till 2003. Then it got pushed again when they did the prequel. Then they decided to spend three years to pay off the story.
>military propaganda shorts for the Vahki
Those were so fucking kino
youtube.com
It’s not fair bros. This story was a fucking epic. So why can’t we get a Lego movie style bionicle movie? They won’t even fucking reference it
They actually did want to seriously make one if I remember correctly. But no studio would accept it unless they introduced humans into the world and focused on them ala Transformers. We just hit 90s nostalgia a couple years ago. Wait until the 2000s nostalgia hits some point next decade, then we'll likely get a movie.
Best character in the saga m night famalam
I'm more of a Nuparu guy.
Matoro is best boy he died for our sins
Building on this, the Hau from the beginning was the symbol of Mata Nui. So the infected Hau being a sign of Makuta foreshadowed what he wanted to do to Mata Nui.
>I think Bionicle lost the magic by at least 200
>They stopped after this for god knows what reason.
Not sure how correct this is, but I heard there was a minor falling out between Lego and Templar Studios, the team behind the MNOGs and early Flash animations. They went their separate ways after 2004. At least Lego held onto Ghost VFX and Advance, the companies who did most of the 3D content and all the commercials, but they lost a huge asset when they dropped Templar, and Bionicle hasn't been the same ever since.
Also the original Story Team leader, Bob Thompson quit during 2005, and the brand became less fantasy-esque and more sci-fi and action oriented afterwards. Greg Farshtey's importance also increased, and he was more into capeshit-style action and edginess, and had a tendency to over-elaborate on things that would have best been kept mysterious.
I can name several
>overspecialized tools whose only purpose is to show off Lego's dual-casting technology
>all look more identical than even the Toa Metru, instead of taking advantage of the mutation theme and making each unique (the Barraki did this concept justice two years later)
>spinners easily fall off
>limited articulation for the left arm
>pointless gear gimmick in the right
>no real masks, just ugly, samey faces with limited reusability
>silverpuke. In previous years, silver used to mean upgrades or futuristic designs, now they were applied to bestial downgrades, thereby completely contradicting the color's thematic significance
>they were pointless story-wise too, the 2005 arc sucked in general
>kids liked heroic Toa, but the Hordika were ugly and malformed, which allegedly lead to worse toy sales
2005 had such a promising idea behind it but the way they dealt with the Hordika was really stupid. Though it would have been cool to see other "Hordika" later in the story as the results of other Toa the Visorak had captured for the Brotherhood. Also the Visorak were the best part of that whole year.
>capeshit-style action and edginess
Thank you for putting into words why I fucking hate Greg's style and all the lorefags that followed in his wake
I hated it too, but to be fair to Greg, he was just responding to fan demands. Whenever there was a poll on the BZPower forum about fans wanted to see more of, they demanded action. When the third movie came out, I remember it was specifically advertised to fans by telling them there's gonna be a 15 minute action scene at the end because that is what they cared most about.
That being said, Greg sometimes did have a rather unpleasant disposition regarding his writing and any criticism he received. He didn't like challenging himself too much with things like coherent plotting and just made up things as he went. He added world-changing ideas into the lore through spur of the moment thoughts, like the whole "zombies on a space station" thing. He also believed that one's writing skills cannot be improved, and if someone didn't like his stories, they should just stop reading them instead of giving him criticism and hoping for improvement.
He is a swell chap and an incredibly nice person, but his stance on the craft of writing was rather disagreeable.
You're right. I don't hate Greg, but for the latter half of Bionicle's run, he had an outsized influence on the Bionicle fanbase that persists to this day. You see it in how most Bionicle conversations begin with "muh crazy lore"
Someone refresh my memory. Were Vakama's visions due to the Great Spirit's influence or did he really have his wires crossed?
the call it's ready
make an order of the of call , and you will gain the bogdanoff face
Both. He had a glitch in his brain that let him accidentally download the thoughts of Mata Nui, which he then interpreted as guiding visions.
I believe you but just out of curiosity do you know what the source of this info is?
Probably one of Greg's answers because it wasn't stated in official media.
>all look more identical than even the Toa Metru
This, I mean holy shit, they were all the exact same thing with a different tool and paint job.
What the fuck.
DEEPEST LORE
the reboot sucked though,
they tried to reboot it like twice and both times seemed to flop.
mostly because they made everything too fucking bulky and glitzy for my taste and there's the strange obsession with skull-spiders.
(when they need to focus on crabs).
Would like there to be more of a focus on matoran in the "next reboot", as I always thought they were at a nicer scale for "doing stuff with" (IE: building structures with 2x4 legobricks)..
(the Mask-Of-Light-Era Matoran-figres were the best figures IMO)
My only problem were the asymmetrical limbs giving me an odd number of parts, and the torsos weren't good for making much.
They should just decrease the size of the regular sets in general. There was already a size-creep during G1 (especially if you also put Slizers into the mix), but G2 just made it all the more apparent that the main characters have become too big, bulky and pricey for you average kid. After Lego introduced the smaller Mixel ball and socket joints, I was thinking maybe they'd incorporate them into their action figure lines and make smaller pieces, but no, they kept producing these giant budget-eating parts that made the toys too expensive. The larger-size Toa cost the same as an enormous titan figure did during mid-to-late G1. Not to mention most of the G2 villains were laughably small compared to the heroes.
Toa should be of a more manageable size, and the villagers should be even smaller to serve as impulse buys.
Here's a better demonstration pic, since half the G2 Toa were placed into a larger size-class and therefor had a steeper price point. Even without taking into account the near nonexistent marketing, it's plainly evident why so few kids bought the reboot sets, they were too expensive despite their good parts-to-price ratio.
>Mixel ball
that's one way of doing it,
there's also the need (IMO) for more "accessory"-stuff like vehicles and different weapons/armor sets.
I liked things like the boxer and the exotoa,
rahi and stuff (like those giant crabs that you could ride in the MNOG) should be a thing too
Pretty much the definition of soul and soulless here.
>they were too expensive
Looking back, they weren't really THAT expensive compared to the stuff they throw out these days like the Samurai Mech for example.
It's a lot smaller, almost none of the parts are larger than 2x2 studs in size, it tries to warrant its price with a bunch of skellingtons (which aren't even build like normal minifigs and use parts that are also used as standard pieces) and costs the same as a standard Toa or bad guy.
Maybe it's because most of my formative years were during the late 2000s, but I unironically really love the more action-oriented atmosphere in the later years, as well as the "edge". Edge is fun, idc.
I'm not at all saying it's objectively superior to the more mysterious and fantastical setting of earlier years, I fucking love the mystery angle, but I don't think the opposite is true either. They both have a place in Bionicle, as far as I'm concerned.
Hell, the novels in 2006 and 2007 were brimming with a similar atmosphere to early Bionicle too, I'd say (or at least it felt that way to me back then), it was just much darker.
the real question is
must it be cleaned?
H E L L O T H E R E
That was the case BEFORE the Mask of Light movie. It's why they were all Direct to DVD, instead of theatrical.
I think a Bionicle movie in the same LEGO Movie universe focusing on the angle that they're characters who could be rebuilt, could work really well. Would they lose their selves if they were rebuilt into someone or something else? What about their degrading parts, how will those be replaced? Just keep them in the attic so that the kids won't break the characters. It could end with the figures finally all being played with together by the kids, with colorful replacement parts to replace their broken ones.
Sadly LEGO's higher ups and most AFOLs really hate Bionicle, and the LEGO movies might be stopping for a while seeing as things are going. It'll probably never happen, even if a more serious/action-focused shakeup is exactly what the LEGO Movies could use to stay fresh right now.
Clean it all.
really they should've tried to get some "off brand" representation into lego with "the lego movie", where it's "like lego but sightly worse/off", with various parts mimicking mega-brands and shit
eh, they did something like that with a character gag in The LEGO Movie 2 but he still seemed like a regular LEGO fig.
If they made fun of other brands, it'd seem petty imo. (especially when modern LEGO is so boring and unappealing)
True enough, but releasing all of the main characters are more affordable ~$10 sets would make more sense for a children's line than dividing them into $15 and $20 price points. There's six main guys, so kids or rather their parents have to fork out a lot to get the whole team together. They were even more expensive here in Europe.
Don't get me wrong, I love the story-driven nature and almost apocalyptic feel of the later years, and was severely disappointed that the fourth movie had a stupidly light childish tone. My main issue had more to do with the serials that were all over the place lot and tone-wise, and the forced quips. It seemed like everyone became a sarcastic twat spouting one-liners by the end of the series. I also felt the story was too rushed to take in all the atmosphere, and I blame the lack of movies and episodic online animations for that. Because lets face it, Bionicle thrives on audio-visual media, and the shortened comics and those 2 minute mini films just weren't enough to accurately portray the scope of the story presented in the books.
Clean deez nuts
the problem was/is related to lego in a lot of ways.
essentially; they need to come up with a plot that's able to be stretched for longer periods, with more focus on the subtle "low-worldbuilding" aspects (IE: matoran).
the toa being something "not-matoran" and (more importantly) not even fitting the matoran scale created some issues IMO.
I never liked the idea to tie Bionicle into the Lego Movie-style "it's kids playing with toys" angle. Out of all the Lego themes, Bionicle is probably the one that lends itself the most to a movie or show about a self-contained story and universe wholly detached from any real-life toy context. I think degrading the characters to presenting them just as toys and ignoring or downplaying their fictional universe would be a massive waste of potential and also a disservice to the theme's original creators. Because Bionicle was never intended to be "just" a line of Lego toys, it was always handled as if the toys had been the tie-in merchandise to a pre-existing storyline.
If the Transformers movies and cartoons can tell their own stories without framing themselves around the idea that they're just toys being played with by real-life kids, then I don't see why Bionicle's universe couldn't be given the same treatment. Bionicle's heavy story focus and unique atmosphere were its strengths, they should be capitalized on rather than thrown out.
should've just been a serialized show, would've probably improved the writing had they done that instead of a comic book series.
simply because the writing for a show would necessitate a different set of requirements
Oh I'm totally with you, I'm not saying to throw that out at all.
It's just, with how shoddily Bionicle's been handled as of late, perhaps a LEGO Movie could act as a sort of springboard into a proper reboot maybe?
Either way, I don't agree that such a movie would have to throw out Bionicle's signature world and atmosphere. They wouldn't have to even bring up the fact they're toys until the end of the film; it'd just be a regular Bionicle storyline on Mata Nui, with the Toa having to rescue the villagers from stasis pods/canisters/whatever, while defeating Makuta who just wants to "protect them" for a seemingly vague reason. (also I've just always loved the sympathetic villain-angle Makuta had around 2003). and then they lower the staircase to Metru Nui after some heroic sacrifice or w/e at the end
Idk, it wouldn't even need to have that. I'm just thinking o ways it could possibly ride off of The LEGO Movie's success to get more of the attention it deserves, while still being distinctly Bionicle and not having to necessarily be a comedy like all the previous films (which I love, but you'd be hardpressed to say that people haven't gotten tired of them and that the LEGO Movies don't need a shakeup in tone). I just think using Bionicle would solve both problems easily, just by being itself.
I think the best way to do it would be to shoot the whole load upfront. And by that I mean keep the "fighting cancer" undertones. Put the reveal they're actually inside a gigantic robot in the first movie. Could be achieved by atom smashing certain storylines. Make it a race against time movie, where the Toa have to embark on a crazy mission throughout the Matoran universe to find the mask of life. Make sure Makuta is sympathetic. He thought Mata Nui was an unjust ruler and didn't care for the people like he did. And he's willing to look like the bad guy to save the Matoran. Ultimately he decided the only way to save them was to save them from themselves, and brainwash. But he didn't realize how damaging his plan ultimately was, and the battle set off the chain reaction leading to the great cataclysm. Maybe he used to be insanely strong but was super crippled by the legendary original Toa (obviously the metru). Anyways goal of the first movie is to save their universe. If successful enough then the sequel could be about waking him up. I'm thinking something along the lines of Lord of the Rings tone/adventure, but animated hybrid CGI and 2D like Spiderverse.
Ugh, i'd love that so bad. It feels a lot like that storyline they ran late in 2009 where Makuta was running the whole universe and the Toa were fighting as a resistance against him.
>animated hybrid CGI and 2D
God, I'd love that. Like Journey to One but with actual passion and skill (and a budget, ideally).
I'd be so down for something like this to be a show or short series in a possible reboot.
Really though I just wish LEGO would do ANYTHING constraction nowadays, even if the story's as shallow as Throwbots; cool, varied (and hopefully complex) sets is all I ask for at this point. Well. That and a building system that's more compatible with Technic and System.
Man, how I'd love an exclusive fan-oriented Bionicle show that stays true to the basic canon but streamlines all its inconsistencies. If it's well made, it could easily reach a wider audience and make up for its production costs. Put it on some streaming site.
Yeah, Bionicle had some amazing lore but it really needs a team to go in and clean it up and make it more streamlined.
Granted, it's a ten year storyline that spans thousands of years. There's a LOT you can cut. Like the Hordika. Or the Phantoka.
Cut the Bohrok-Kal even though I loved that arc, cut the search for the Matoran in 2004, cut the Hordika, add more time to the inika and Mahri, and make 2008 just the second half with the Toa never splitting up at all. I loved the air theme of the Phantoka but spending half a year on them was silly.
Good choices. I would probably change the entirety of the Mistika thing though and instead have them be the Mahri to keep it streamlined. When you think about it, 2008 is kind of unnessarary except for the Makuta plot twist.
>The Legend Reborn is the only native HD Bionicle movie
>the rest are DVD-only or upscaled
Somebody should petition LEGO to release the original trilogy on Blu.
To watch all those clipping and compositing errors and unfinished previz models they accidentally left in the finished render in high def?
I always thought that the Journey to One animators had the passion and skill, they were just restrained by Lego's stupid decisions and budgeting for the entire series. They had a killer looking proof of concept, but had to run with the cheap cel-shading that they did in the end which I kind of liked at points
I agree with your last point though. Lego needs to stop sitting around and do something original again. If they're so worried, they should just make a simple IP that can run for a year or two just to get a new system in place. Once they do that, they can go crazy with something else.
Even better, Lego would hire or license Bionicle to more capable companies to handle the media side while they built the toys. There's no reason Bionicle couldn't be as big as Transformers or other series of that type.
Of course!
Actually, I wonder what the movies would look like if you cropped them to 4:3 pan-and-scan and put them on video.
eh, i dunno. JtO's writing definitely felt uninspired, so maybe it was just the budget holding back the animation side.
Also, as I love Bionicle, I sooner want them to try rebooting Hero Factory again. They still have the original story bible so they could definitely try their hand at giving it a more serious story. It has so much fucking potential, man.
youtube.com
I always thought they were building up to Hero Factory vs BIONICLE at some point. They had to have existed in the same universe.
Their original idea was definitely for Hero Factory to contrast Bionicle. According to Faber, where Bionicle was set as a mythical legend, Hero Factory was meant to be "current-time", which is why its first year or so had ads mimicking news reports.
Then as we all know, there was the whole deal with HF being boiled down to its surface level elements by LEGO execs, and there was originally supposed to be a morally-grey conflict about the factory itself artificially creating heroes, etc etc.
They probably could've existed in the same universe, though with how OP every Bionicle character was, I don't see anyone from Hero Factory being able to take down someone greater than a Matoran. Even then the Matoran would probably win, thanks to how many tools they typically have (and their frankly greater ingenuity)

I've had the thought that the Bohrok-Kal arc could be improved if it happened at the same time as the Mask of Light arc. You'd have the Toa Nuva on the one hand rushing to deal with the Kal and get their powers back so they could help Jaller and Takua, while they for their part would be rushing to find the seventh Toa so that they wouldn't be completely at Makuta's mercy. This would give the 2003 story a unique flavor I feel, and incidentally help explain why the Toa didn't just escort the two of them to Kini-Nui from the beginning.
Add in the Rahkshi on the Matoran's side, and you'd have one hell of a rush. HELL, by that point make the entire Chronicler's Company Join Takua and Jaller, because they'd need all the help they could get. I really wished we got more of a spotlight on the rest of the Matoran.
hmm, what if the Hordika arc was repurposed a bit by being combined with the Toa Inika's plotline?
Like, sometime during their search for the Mask of Life, the Toa Inika/Mahri return to Mata Nui or wherever else, only to find that while they were adventuring and everyone else was chilling in Metru Nui, the Dark Hunters and Visorak have taken over the island (and maybe get mutated a third time because being a Toa Inika is fucking suffering).
It'd make more sense than it being a continuation of the Toa Metru's saga, at the least.
I liked the Kal arc for the simple fact that it actually let the Nuva do anything before they got put on the sidelines for years. Think about it, they get released as toys, and if it wasn't for the Kal stuff, they'd immediately be overshadowed by Takanuva. The Kal also had some of the most metal death scenes (though they were technically not living, and as I understand, their Krana survived), so I'd keep them in the story personally.
The bs about the Nuva cube and the new mask hunt could be toned down, though. The new masks don't get any story significance and they don't ever use them after this anyway, plus Tahu loses all of his save for the one he was wearing, so I'd drop them from the story. The Nuva cube and symbols should also be rewritten.
This just gets to show how tricky it would be to rewrite Bionicle while also pleasing fans, because there's so many unnecessary arcs, so many characters who either serve little purpose or go to waste and so much underutilized potential, but rewriting them would also rob us of some of the most memorable moments and character interactions.
>HELL, by that point make the entire Chronicler's Company Join Takua and Jaller, because they'd need all the help they could get.
YES! I love those guys!
>the original members join the two of them one by one as they get dragged around the island
>they have to use their skills and cunning to dodge and delay the Rahkshi, beating the odds just long enough to find the seventh Toa
>the Company finds itself assembled once again at Kini-Nui to witness Takua's transformation into Takanuva
Fuck, imagine if that was MNOG II.
The Hordika stuff could easily be reconfigured to be about the Nuva, and I don't know why they didn't do that in the first place. Lego mandated that 2005 had to take place in Metru Nui, but they didn't say which characters to feature, far as I know.
It could have been about the Nuva returning to Metru Nui to explore it before the Matoran repopulate it, and get caught up in the Brotherhood-Dark Hunter war. Instead of turning into Hordika, they could have been upgraded in some actually meaningful way and gotten new, more posable sets.
The only problem is that 2005 explained how Makuta got free, so that's kind of a big factor for why it had to take place in the past. Unless you make it so that the Makuta we have known from 2001 to 2003 was only some false projection manipulated remotely by the real Makuta who was still encased in crystal. Like a sort of backup copy he created by encasing a portion of his antidermis in another suit of armor just in case the real body got badly defeated. And that way, the 2005 arc could still have concluded with him getting freed.
They key is have one talented passionate filmmaker leading the charge with a clear focus on what made BIONICLE great. It wasn't just the atmosphere, it was the engaging and surprisingly deep characters and the teamwork dynamics. As long as the focus is on what makes a family (unity) having to make hard choices/sacrifices (duty) and never giving up on hope no matter what (destiny) all while keeping it an allegory for fighting a terminal diagnosis, you'll have a fan pleaser.
>Unless you make it so that the Makuta we have known from 2001 to 2003 was only some false projection manipulated remotely by the real Makuta who was still encased in crystal.
That's kind of a really interesting idea. There's a lot about Makuta's characterization in the early years that doesn't seem to line up perfectly with what we learn about him later. Mainly I'm thinking about his monologue in the comics and his speech at the end of MNOG, in which he seems to fully believe in his own mystique as this super spooky presence/god of destruction haunting the island. Even in the MoL movie, all his talk of making sure Mata Nui isn't "disturbed" kind of flies in the face of his ultimate goal. If he was instead some kind of partial recreation of Makuta, or guided indirectly by the real Makuta's will and not fully cognizant of all the details... well, that would've been interesting.
These are such good ideas. I love the idea of the Toa racing to get their powers back so they can actually fight the Rahkshi. Imagine if the big showdown at Kini-Nui was their first appearance back with all their powers. Plus the Chronicler's Company being there to witness the transformation would have been kino.
IT'S TIME
what about changing something more fundimental.
such as not having the only "female"-gendered by blue, but having it be more evenly spread.
(though then again this runs up to the problem of "NO SEX IN BIONICLE; NOT EVEN THE VAGUELY IMPLIED WHOLESOME KIND THAT NOBODY TAKES OFFENSE TO"-rule that I think Greg made)
They kinda shot themselves in the foot with that rule because they ended up making a bunch of other species that don't follow the gender restriction at all. I wouldn't mind at all if some Ga-Matoran were male, or other Matoran were female. Just as long as you don't change the gender of already established characters, we're good.
Female pohatu would be my waifu tho
Based
If Pohatu isn't a bro then what's the fucking point, man
The Mask of Light made me pretty sad at the end, the main guy basically died and got reincarnated as some combo-being
you should prolly rewatch it, friend. That's... not how it ended.
Pohatu is the ultimate bro. He's such a bro that he got the anti-social guy to like him.
Maybe if they made it so the majority of Ga-Matoran are female, and the majority of the others are male, but it's not necessarily the rule.
Even for the budget, how the fuck did they not ask for a redo of that? Is it because they thought the Rahkshi shadow would hide that? Was it time?
I'm so accustomed to thinking of the elements as having specific genders that the idea of changing it feels wrong. It's sort of an interesting quirk of the universe to me. If I were to adjust it somehow, I would make Iron and Plant female exclusive, for reasons.
Also love was never canon.
Although I don't normally genderswap characters, for some reason I find female Matoro very easy to envision.
I wouldn't mind that as long as the original characters stayed their original genders.
And I don't care if love wasn't originally canon, the matoran were never supposed to have personalities anyway, it can be made canon.
All dues to Greg
But that shit's dumb. I want my CLANG CLANG
>implying bionicle isn't robot Yaoi territory
Based and earthpilled
god i love this series
So, why can't we have love in Bionicle? Love =/= sexual reproduction.
TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THAT SNOUT
Kopaka had a thing for Gali, for right?
>the series would have ended in 2008 and the ending would have been 'makuta wins'
fuck
This is true, the current people in charge of Lego love system and hate everything else. They'd get rid of Technic if they could
I think the 'Makuta wins' was just made up at the last second to continue it? Could be wrong, though.
to be fair, even without Greg the crazy lore would still be a claim made
I think it was more of a corporate "wait and see" kind of thing. They got the green light for a 3 year storyline starting in 2006 with potential for more if it did well.
So they'd just save Mata Nui and end it there? Would they reform Spherus Magna? Was the backstory about it splitting into pieces and Mata Nui's purpose was to put it back together made up before that point?
I guess there'd really be no purpose to going back to Spherus Magna because if it ended there you probably wouldn't have any of the races that inhabited it
All that stuff was introduced in 2009 actually.
The original ending was they figure out his plan and stop Makuta from taking over in a climatic final battle. Things changed they got some new execs that wanted to keep the brand going for multi media interest. That's why 2008 has such a lackluster climax when scrutinized.
>Wait until the 2000s nostalgia hits some point next decade, then we'll likely get a movie.
This is what I keep saying.
Am I seriously the only person that liked the no romance rule? Maybe it's why it attracted so many autists. No love triangles to scare them off.
I think outright romance is a bit too much, but cute little relationships like Hewkii and Macku had were ok by me.
Komau
>Hewkii and Macku
got a strange boner from holly or hahli or whatever her name was.. probably her voice actress
I kinda liked the one with sand gladiators
This.
MNOG and Bohrok Wars is a completely unique piece of story-telling. It put the comics, movies and gameboy game to shame. If they had continued that tone for the third year the classic Biolonice trilogy would stand as the best toy story of all time.
God everything 2004 and onwards is such shit. The mysticism is absolutely gone. It's just a convoluted science fiction with robots now.
Were you expecting something else?
More likely, they plain didn't notice. There's far worse stuff that they let slip, like pic related.
But it easily could have been time issues too. Gotta remember these films were pumped out so fast that they couldn't even polish the scripts before they sent them out for animation. The director commentary even says that they lacked the budget and time to do fluid simulation for the lava scenes, and they were all done with cheats.
>Gregor the Overlander
Top taste. No one ever talks about those books
I loved the animations for those years, that with the music gave the series such an epic and mysterious feel. Bionicle will never be like that again.
I thought I was the only one who noticed, this is hilarious.
Ok, call me blind but what's the problem exactly?
She's putting her stone into the hole that represents ice instead of water.
Think Nuju and Nokama could've been an item before the "NO SEX FOR ROBOTS" autism?
well...technically she's not wrong
How did becoming Toa - and therefore "siblings" - affect Jaller and Hahli's relationship? How did it affect Macku and Hewki? So many questions just dropped.
Jaller and Hahli had crazy times together as Toa. Macku was very excited upon seeing Hewkii's new proportions.
Hips.
>tfw acquired an extensive Bionicle collection to add to my own because a kid on eBay sold them just to buy that dumb rock band game

You don't deserve any sympathy. Honestly I hope you get hit by a bus tomorrow.
Yeah, I keep my Bonkles in a series of storage tubs
Macku x Hewkii works as an anomaly in a world where romance doesn't normally exist. Like maybe spending 1000 years away from the normal routine of Matoran labor caused unusual developments. Matoran + too much undirected energy = love? Plus they're just cute.
Matau x Nokama is pretty lame though and feels tacked on.
Clearly Gali is the one with hips, as depicted by those four pip things she has. Pohatu's are in his legs so he would be more thick in the waist and thighs.
It's not that anomalous, Hahli and Jaller were getting down to business once the Bohrok were beaten.

the fact that those matoran are so clunky and oddly proportioned just makes it cuter
Makuta dialogue in the Mata Nui Online Game:
>I bore you. For I am Nothing. And out of Nothing, you came. And it is into Nothing that you will go.

>You cannot destroy me. For I am Nothing.
Makuta dialogue in the unfinished Legend of Mata Nui:
>Can you defeat me, Lewa? I doubt it!
>Consider yourself fortunate. Tahu will not be so lucky... You have been very lucky.

Bionicle will never be as kino as it was during the 2001-2003 Templar animations. Though 2006-2007 come very close for different reasons.
Templar was doing it for the art, man. One of the rare cases when a team hired to work on a commercial project fell so in love with the material that they went far beyond their requirements and poured their soul into it. Very much unlike the people who made, say, the 2003 video game, who have admitted to sitting on the licence almost until the release date, and just quickly slapped a half-functioning mess of a game to meet the deadline.
It sucks that Lego stopped hiring them after 2004. The Templar guys weren't even kept up to speed with the lore. According posts they made sometime in the early 2010s, they weren't aware that Ahkmou, a character that they essentially created and catapulted to fame, became a major player in the 2004 story.
MNOG
>But you have proven us all wrong. You stand like the Toa among Mata Nui's greatest heroes.
Bohrok Invasion
>Danger is the anvil on which trust is forged. I'm Glad to call you friend, Takua.
Mask of Light
>Lol Chronicler! You're so irresponsible! Can't believe you're not taking this quest, and you have to become brave again so that you can become a real hero, literally the Toa of Light!
Anyone else feel the movie kind of missed the point?
>quickly slapped
Slapped together, I mean.
But yeah, Templar played an important role in making Bionicle a success. The MNOG carried most of the lore in 2001, and it directly influenced the first movie. But by 2003, you could really tell that their creative freedom was being significantly hampered. MNOG II was but a shell of the original, and the '03 animations were practically a nonevent. They made two episodes setting up the plot, then jumped immediately to the rushed conclusion.
For sure. One of the neat things Templar did is they made minor characters main characters. I heard that since there was a game team for the Toa, they got stuck with making a game about the Matoran. They took the Happy Meal toys and turned them into such beloved characters that they were continually referenced for the rest of the run. I hope they're still doing good work. Maybe Lego will reach out to them again in the future.
This, the dialogue took a huge downturn in the movies. They clearly wanted to portray the Matoran and children and the Toa as adults.
The movies occupy that uneasy middle point where they're too terminology and continuity-heavy to make sense for a random viewer, but they get so many things wrong about the characters that hardcore fans see through their bs. They're really only good for casual fans who can kind of follow along or don't care to think too much about the details, but don't know enough about the lore to spot the inconsistencies.
I for one prefer the eel kraata of the movie
More like
-the Makuta is an illness (Christian Faber's idea)
-a vague immaterial concept (Alastair Swinnerton's idea)
-a mysterious all powerful god of evil and darkness who exists as his own entity and can therefor be sold as a toy eventually (Lego's idea)
-a somewhat comprehensible but otherworldly entity who represents the shadow to Mata Nui's light, like two sides of a coin: one is creation, the other is the force that pulls apart Lego pieces (Templar Studio's idea)
-a tragic, misguided and fallible villain with an actual physical body who sees his goals as noble but uses evil means to accomplish them (general Story Team idea that went unused apart from a few lines in the movie)
-a Saturday morning cartoon baddie who likes to monologue to himself and always gets beaten (the filmmakers' idea)
-a "too smart for you" chessmaster who's part of an entire species, has secret knowledge to control the world itself and plans ahead his defeats (Greg Farshtey's idea)
-a bodyless energy being who was meant to serve good but had a glitch in his AI that made him forget his original goal and took him down a path of darkness and jealousy (Greg again)
-after taking over the Matoran Universe, he's back to being a cartoon villain who plays around with the heroes instead of killing them on sight, leading to his destruction (Greg)
So kids who just got toys and like seeing them move around on the TV.
Although that still doesn't explain why Unity Duty Destiny is so freaking important.
>As the personification of Shadow, the Makuta is ever shifting, ever changing, no eye is able to pin down their nature, hidden and shifting in the darkness
K I N O

Yeah with story skills like that you can tell why Greg Farshtey isn't into robot sex.
Because he is a faggot.
He had his moments.
>His mask was shattered all around so I thought I would help him reuinite with it
>there's some of him over there, a little there
Best Makuta moment
>Hey, look buddy. I'm an engineer, and that means I solve problems.
>complex villains
>bad
>
It's too bad we never got to see Nuparu jury rig the Piraka's robot guards to turn on the Piraka.
>that serial where Jaller discusses Skakdi crime statistics
What did Greg mean by this?
Who said that? Inconsistent isn't the same thing as complex
Don't confuse inconsistency for complexity. There is definitely some dissonance between the various things Makuta was supposed to be.
>Yknow Takua, Skadaki make up less than ten percent of the Matoran universe, but commit 60% of the crime!
>How karzahni is that!?
Fair enough. I’d say some of it adds to his complexity, but not all
I mean if it was ACKNOWLEDGED in universe that he was a schizo from the beginning of time, then you might argue that
Presently it just looks like it is, too many people with too many visions. You just gotta enjoy each one as much as you can and appreciate the overall product in the ways that present them to you
>“Put to sleep by one of my own, can you believe it? All these years being their Great Spirit and their literal universe and a Makuta betrays me!”
>“G-great Spirit, h-he looked like a Skrall!”
>“Oh, thank you, Vakama!”
>Mata Nui crashes with a smile on his face
That was a weird scene
Fair point, you have a good point, guy
Skakdi is unironically the Matoran word for "thief"
Just let that set in
Tahu would guard my bed from intruders when I was little.
on Zakaz don't relaxaz
>rap in their trailer
>named after the Matoran word for thief, so offensive that in universe it could cause a fight
>massive mouths
Wow Raimi
>Raimi kidnapped the story directors and masqueraded as them
>the turaga dume plotline was him hinting at his crimes
The new one is way, way too sleek and has no design versatility. I would much rather get two G1 sets like a Rahkshi and a Toa and combine them (little known fact, you can use the Rahkshi leg parts as leg armor for Toa!) than buy that G2 shit.
Why does it absolutely HAVE to be about fighting a terminal diagnosis?
I suppose it doesn't have to, obviously
It just worked well for them. You may even have some point that trying the same approach twice might not work as well
I just don't get the appeal at all. If your options for the story are
>A: Six heroes descend from the prophecy of the star sky to save the great spirit from his dark malevolent twin.
>B: Six mechanical autobodies designed as a failsafe to restart the massive spacefaring construct in the event of an emergency are being thwarted by another mech that's glitching out.
Why the hell would you setup your audience for A and then give them B?
Just look at this and tell me it becomes better when you insert the words "antibodies, white blood cells and cancer".

>You....YOU
>DOUBLE PIRAKA
I'd accept it in the vein of discovery for a people's flawed understanding of their world learning the truth their myths are based upon
I'm one of the aforementioned above that prefer the old Templar vibe but, like, I GET it
I think you mean
YO-YO DOUBLE PIRAKA
But that is literally the whole point of Bionicle. Mechinoid beings with rigid and specific purposes to their existence intertwined with the mystisim and magic of gods, the elements, creation, and destruction. Like, the G2 reboot leaned heavily into the magic aspect and barely touched upon the fact that the characters were biomechanical and it felt lacking as a result. The perfect balance between sci-fi and fantasy is what made the first story so good.
>You ever been dry fucked jala?
MNOG was quite a refreshing change of pace from the norm.
Nah. Biology is shit if you can't even have sex. If you're going to take away the curtain and reveal they were just living on Bender the whole time you could at least let them cope by making love to each other. Otherwise it's just depressing.
Dude it's a toyline we all grew out of when we were 12. No one carried it into their teens. It's nostalgia posting around these parts.
You'd have to have started at 2 years old to be 12 when it finished though?
90% dropped off before it finished. That's why it was canceled.
And yet I'm left wondering where people like caps lock guy and all the lorecrazies come from. Because either the franchise kept picking up new people so the 90% dropping off wouldn't be a problem, or these guys picked it up earlier and didn't grow out of it. Either way I wouldn't necessarily trust them with what constitutes Bionicle essentials simply because they like things I don't like.
This picture reeks of Makuta
Piraka is, not Skakdi.
So what you're saying is while Piraka is the diragatory slang, Skakdi are niggers?
Haha yeah, who would still be into Bionicle in their teens, let alone their twenties? That would be silly haha.
>How did it affect Macku and Hewkii?
SIZE
DIFFERENCE
Well any length of axle will fit a circle hole am I right?
They're siblings in a "brothers on the battlefield" aspect. They're clear to fuck. They need to reproduce to replenish their ranks.
>the Bohrok used to be Matoran
Some parts of the lore are terrifying.
FUCK! I bought the blue one cause I liked blue. Turns out nokama is a chick robot. Who would've thought. but I think, out of all the blue chick robots that must've been the most feminine and I didn't figure it out or notice. I must be defective or something.
As one of the lorecrazies myself, I can't speak for everyone but, I got into Bionicle during 2007 (which is still my favorite year) and fell in love with the strange, dark world that oncce I figured out how computers work I educated myself on what came before.
...Macku didn't become a Toa, user. Hewkii did.
b-but they don't reproduce, user... love is an emotional thing only...
LET'S SING Yea ForumsMRADES. You're feeling awkward, you're feeling cold. You know there is someone watching you, oh no! Is this just a dream or is it true? You're getting blind you cannot see Every hour is filled with disbelieve Are my senses playing a trick on me? But, now is the time.. Its time to say.. Boo We're every you see Look out we might be real This time we got you caught up in a dream We're every you see Look out we might be real This time we got you caught up in a dream You're feeling awkward, you're feeling blue You feel the world is spinning without you Like you were on a different plane But, now is the time Its time to say.. Boo We're every you see Look out we might be real This time we got you caught up in a dream We're every you see Look out we might be real This time we got you caught up in a dream Is that all you want from me? Is this all that you can see? We're everywhere you see Look out we might real This time they got you Caught up in a dream Boo We're every you see Look out we might be real This time we got you caught up in a dream We're every you see Look out we might be real This time we got you caught up in a dream
He didn't say Macku did tho?
And it's right fucking shit, if they were going to turn the Tohunga into Toa they should've turned them all. Except Taipu, he's a retard.
I want a Toa Kapura whose superpower is he goes so slow he actually becomes a wave function and can translocate in space instantly.
>in an alt universe, Hafu and Taipu become Toa
>both still look exactly the same as each other apart from their masks
Don't you fucking insult Taipu, you retard. He's a good fucking boy.
Why was Kapura so fucking based, guys?
You'd have to be pretty damn based to be wandering the scorched woods outside Ta-Wahi with no back-up in sight. I remember trying desperately to get through that damn forest because I thought there'd be something at the end, and kept thinking I was going to be lost and something would attack me. But he's just chilling there learning how to become entropy.
Not only that, but the Bohrok Queens were going to be giant spiders/crabs that had Bohrok stored on their backs for them to "throw" at their enemies.
Also to add to what you said, the Bohrok were originally going to be the end result of a Toa's life metamorphosis.
I thought the whole Great Spirit Robot reveal was a really great answer to questions that I and (I expect) most other fans were not asking.
It explains, for example, why the original characters were technological beings living on an island and using only primitive technology themselves; it explains why most of the setting was in "underground domes," it explains the meaning of the name "BIO(logical chro)NICLE."
But since the reveal took eight years in coming? (For most of that time, I remember thinking that there was no real chance that the line would last long enough to reach the "awakening the Great Spirit" point?) I wasn't looking for explanations for things like that. Should I be looking for explanations for why there are humans in Star Wars with no Earth in sight? No, because that's part of the general conceit of the setting. Likewise here for biomechanoidal islanders, or underground domes. Or the name "BIONICLE" ("because it sounds way better than 'Doo Heads,' what more reason do you need?")
The disease allegory was part of the creators' impression of it all from the beginning, but since it took so long to be revealed, it's not strictly a part of the audience-facing side of things made up the "BIONICLE" that took off back in 2001.
But it's definitely a really cool aspect of it all, looking back.
>burnt forest
God I DID get so lost
Fuck you buddy, Taipu is cool.
I love how one of the few mysteries left unexplained is "how the fuck did this little nigga learn to teleport?"
>withers away to basically just a Kanohi and then grows into something looking like a krana
>those other two forms before the full bohrok
Jesus, Christian
bionicles and animorphs threads are the only reason I keep coming to this shithole of a website
God is kill. Life is fuck. Born to die.
God, I want to MOC something like those Bohrok Queens so fucking badly
He learned to move so slow it caused a stack overflow error.
BRB gonna make a Animorph MOC with Bionicle parts.
I thought about it a while ago, but the Manas motor and controller I got off bricklink were fucked. I'm glad I posted that image, because I still have those ideas I was going to use, and now I got an unopened mint Manas set... and a working Mindstorms 2.0.
fucking kek
Was I the only one who took it as Bionic Chronicle and not Biological Chronicle?
And I think it'd be forgivable to have some of those answers if many of the post 2004 developments weren't really mind-boggling. Like mercenary Toa, the Makuta being just a bunch of crazy weirdo's, stuff like that. It's when lorefags start suggesting like that the original Makuta wasn't even real that I get angry.
>parallel world where we got Manas-sized Spidohrok Queens sets
Would you be brave enough to put your bohrok figures on their spring loaded launcher and shoot them at your younger sibling?
No, the fucker would eat them.
Yeah fuck those dweebs
matoro the true hero
>Bohrok
>Barraki
>the matoran would've eventually turned into masks
that's some i have no mouth and i must scream shit right there
I'm pretty sure that image is meant to show a split evolution, where Toa and Bohrok are the different endpoints of a common starting form.
That reminds me that the way to enter debug mode in MNOG II (which was very necessary to get around that buggy ass game at points) was to type "kapura." That's a cute joke I didn't get as a kid.
Oh shit, are you the one who tried to build a MOC of them? Glad to hear you're still at it, dude! also the Mindstorms 2.0 thing is a neat idea. I still have my Mindstorms 2.0 set, might do something with it someday.
Imagine if all the kanohi used were just brain dead people that living toa and matoran wore to use their powers before the metamorphosis continued
>I'm pretty sure that image is meant to show a split evolution, where Toa and Bohrok are the different endpoints of a common starting form.
I can imagine that interpretation, although with the developments regarding certain Av-Matoran later on, I lean towards it being an old idea they reincorporated later
Ok fellas so riddle me this.
The Ta-Matoran had the Guard that were versatile heavy infantry capable of both melee and ranged combat.
The Onu-Matoran had swift Ussalry units for mobile, fast attacks and Boxor mechanized walkers for heavy duty.
The Le-Matoran had the Gukko Force for air superiority and precision strikes.
I guess the Ga-Matoran probably could make a serviceable navy out of their canoes.
The Po-Matoran have their Kolhi for dedicated ranged damage but as it turns out they're not even as good as the Ga-Matoran at the sport.
So what are the Po-Matoran and Ko-Matoran going to do? Throw rocks and think the enemy to death?
I thought the Kanohi were forged out of protodermis?
Oh my god. Is protodermis made out of decomposed matoran?
Obviously they didn't run with that route
So what are the Po-Matoran and Ko-Matoran going to do? Throw rocks and think the enemy to death?
[Uncomfortable staring] until the enemy feels too awkward and leaves
The Po-Matoran and Ko-Matoran don't really need good armies, just because their homes are in such extreme locations. Ko-Matoran live at the frozen peak of a fucking mountain, while the Po-Matoran are in the middle of a scorching desert, with a wall protecting their village that even a swarm of Tahnok couldn't get past.
I guess the Ko-Matoran could be the strategists and intelligence officers.
If they told anyone what they knew that is. Although it begs the question how did Matoro and Kopaka turn out so based.
You're saying the Po-Matoran are the fort-builders?
They were both reclusive austists, one had bad pessimism issues the other had nasty social issues so the core audience had someone to relate to.
here. I actually agree with you that the transition from the 2001-2003 era was kind of a mess. I always preferred the mystical tribal vibes as a kid, and it's the part I think holds up the best. That being said, I also have a fondness for the later weird shit, so I find it fun theorizing weird shit.
I think the various big reveals we got would've been better if they had more noticeable in-universe consequences. For instance, it always rubbed me the wrong way that the Matoran never seemed that bothered about leaving Mata Nui or finding out that the Turaga had basically been lying to them about the nature of their reality for 1000 years. Even after it was learned that Mata Nui was actually a giant robot, none of the characters were shown reacting to it very strongly.
If there was more of a sense that the characters were reacting to the unfolding world around them and maybe getting overwhelmed by it in the same way that the audience was, it would've made for a better story.
Wow I had both of those things but my self-expy was always Tahu.
Ta-Koro was pretty ballin but yeah more or less
I always assumed it was an old idea that Greg later modified and threw in in his usual slapdash fashion even though it didn't add much and didn't make much sense.
This. Triple this.
They were moving out of the Stone Age into the Bronze Age in 2003 and then suddenly it turned into the post-apocalyptic Space Age and everyone is acting like it's par for the course. Like yeah, they're robots, but if they were already progressing like people would then this shift could not possibly have been so smooth.
And honestly regardless of the explanation I doubt I'll ever be okay with nu-Makuta.
Based
So on the discussion of BIONICLE love, I have some real food for thought for you.
So you know how the old Greek philosophers would be paid by their students with sex?
Nuju and Matoro
Ta-Koro got blown to bits by 3 Rahkshi. Yeah they were strong and could fly but Po-Koro withstood the Swarm. I doubt Ta-Koro was really well-constructed.
How about no
*click clack intensifies*
>Why does it absolutely HAVE to be about fighting a terminal diagnosis?
Because Faber had a brain tumor
>r2_d2_orgasm.wav
I think the lack of low-tier side stories focusing on the not-Toa characters in later years contributed a lot to the fact that the shift felt too jarring. We didn't see the characters adjust, nor did we get glimpses into their mundane lives, as we did with the two MNOGs. Instead, it was all plot and all action almost all the time.
It felt off when Jaller's Toa team would talk about "home", and they meant Metru instead of Mata Nui. It was also kinda dumb that all their years spent living in the wilderness, fending off dangerous animals didn't give them any meaningful advantage over the villains. Like a 1000 years of living as tribal villagers left no lasting impact on them, they simply shrugged it off and went back to living in a huge city just like that.
I think the Maori incident, and particularly Lego's probably overgenerous response to it (producing the oft-quoted "$10,000 to name a character" figure) really blasted a hole in the ability of the setting to feel like it had depth. If it costs as much as a decent car to name three minor characters, your setting is going to end up really empty, so once most of the MNOG Matoran were left behind, we ended up with places like Bara Magna, where the number of distinct individuals on the entire planet seemed to be approximately equal to the number of sets released in 2009.
I still don't get how a civilization can own words.
That, and Lego's influence over ancillary media strengthened too. The 1st MNOG had a lot of freedom to explore the setting because Lego had no idea it would blow up the way it did. But in later years, they were content with mass producing cheap mini-games with no story material. Even the Glatorian Arena, which actually let you talk to the characters, was extremely limited in scope because it was a fighting game.
The Voya Nui Online Game could have been an exception from this, but that too was non-canon.
except Matoro wasn't really Nuju's student, he was his mandatory interpreter. It was Matoro's job. If anything, Nuju should've been paying Matoro somehow (I guess by trusting him with various unspeakable secrets, idk)
Reverse wunnit?
Lego wanted to copyright the names of characters that used maori language which set off the shitstorm?
Ok yeah that seems retarded. Like imagine TMNT copyrighting Leonardo or Transformers copyrighting Soundwave.
I just realized if Nuparu had died instead of Matoro they could've replaced him with Onepu. Also add Taipu, Kopeke, Kapura, Macku, Tomaru and Hafu.
Yeah I know dumb reason to want another character to die but I want balanced elements numbers.
I mean it was built on top of lava. It was clearly going to fall even without the Rahkshi sooner or later.
Makes sense, the trilogy did have two overseas studios working on them (those being regular Disney contractor Wang Films and Trollhunters' CGCG). And I do recall them only having less than a year to make the first film.
But good lord did the second one take a huge downgrade in quality. So many noticeable frame drops, lack of proper mouth movements in half the scenes and that. It's a wonder they weren't fired after that.
Wasn't it connected to the volcano cave wall? There was a tunnel leading to both Onu and Le-Koro, as well as a Lightstone cavern, so the village had to have been anchored to more than just its foundation.
Don't you dare speak that way about Taipu. That guy is my favorite Chronicler's Company member.
Ko-Koro is completely isolated. The only way to get there normally in universe is to take a tram from Ta-Koro. They didn't even get attacked during the Bohrok War except when the one Kal came and stole the symbol, but that was the gravity one. Then the Rahkshi attacked, but they could take anything.
Absolutely, even as a kid I thought Legends of Metru Nui looked significantly more rushed and way less polished. In retrospect, Mask of Light does look more primitive in many ways, but the CGI shortcuts and sloppy animation were more blatant in LOMN. The lack of mouth animations felt so insultingly cheap and lazy, like they expected we wouldn't notice?
It's not just a question of defence. Sometimes you have to go on the offence, like during the battle at Kini Nui.
Since Ko-Matoran are the least social of all Matoran, I don't think they'd even go on the offense that often. They'd just leave everyone alone and let them sort it out. If they did have to join an offensive they'd probably be scouts like Matoro was.
What did Taipu do to you, user?
This thread isn't dying yet, we're going to the limit boys.
You have my green axe
and my white shield
Watching the movie more and more makes em wonder if the animators in Taiwan weren't having technical issues while making the movie and they weren't able to render things fully.
Though undoubtedly the lack of lip movements or Nokama putting her stone into Nuju's slot are just fucking lazy.
The back half maybe. But even that could easily be destroyed if done properly.
I honestly don't know how it went down.
All I had ever heard about it was hearsay from Bionicle fans. I recently read a few actual news articles about it, and it was still really unclear. The Maori claimed Lego was trying to copyright words, Lego claimed it wasn't, the whole thing was settled out of court and a few names got changed.
Though if it did have the side-effect of making Lego back away from the whole polynesian/tribal influence, that would be a real shame
>no proper Barraki music video
gravITy hurts
Literally the first one they made.
youtube.com
Web of Shadows was the only character driven one. All the others were too muddled up in explaining the setting.
>tfw too intelligent to speak matoran
God this was my favorite Bionicle arc. And then it goes to shit immediately afterwards with Mistika.
I love how even then they were hinting at the fact that the Matoran Universe were "alien", with the existence of those stupid rubber squids. The characters would bring up how to them, they were completely alien, and that they've never even heard of a "fully-organic" lifeform before.
And, personally, while I don't think the Toa were outstanding as Mistika... god I really loved those Makuta and vehicle sets (even though I only ever got the Rockoh T3). And I was really caught up in the "final battle", climactic hype surrounding it.
For those wanting something like a 2006 2007 movie, there's some fan films on YouTube. This one is a 3 hour Marhi movie. Gets pretty hype at around the 2 hours and 20 min mark. youtu.be
>even though I only ever got the Rockoh T3
You could try piecing together a different one from Bricklink.
Oh, I'm totally intent on getting them someday. I want a full collection someday; so far I have most of 2007-2010, and started a bit on 2001 and 2002 recently. Also have most of 2015-2016
I present to you the most important bit of lore in the entire Bionicle universe.
youtube.com
cute
When were the squids introduced? I don't remember them.
They're the life-draining projectiles the Barraki shot.
Creeping in My Soul
>they still kept that with the Av-Matoran
>all those Bohrok the Toa defeated were Takua’s cousins
>Barraki
I don't know when I got out of Bionicle but this term is completely unfamiliar to me.
These niggas.
Warlords from suuuuuper fucking early in the history of the universe. Formed the league of six kingdoms and tried to take over until the Makuta (and order?) shut them down and sent them to water prison
Gave Makuta the idea that Mata Nui could be overthrown, according to certain lore
>When that first video Creeps from the Deep hit the Bionicle official website
>All the creepy and twisted Lovecraft setup for Marhi Nui
>And then CRASHED
Voya Nui's arc was based but fucking Marhi Nui
youtube.com
Don't think I've heard of this guy till now but he just released a video about Bionicle comics. Always nice when the brand receives some non-negative notoriety bump outside the fanbase.
TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Bionicle butts
How autistic am I for wanting this?
>LEGO's [...] really hate Bionicle
Then why did it get a reboot?
Keep it down man, I nearly died of fear.
They needed a new CCBS line and it was easier and safer to reboot of a former popular theme than to make a new one from scratch. But Lego changed their minds about it anyway, and stripped Bionicle G2 of its marketing budget to focus on Ninjago instead.
Now that G2, Hero Factory, and the Chima, Superhero and Star Wars Ultrabuilds all failed, they don't have a reason anymore to give themes like these any attention.
Probably not as much as I am for being bothered about how her mask wraps all the way around her head.
Onu-Matoran are best Matoran.
Po-bros are cool too.
Bro-Matoran before Ho-Matoran, my friend.
So the Gold Masks give you the powers of all the Great Masks at once while the Silver Masks are named "Great Mask X of Wisdom" but what do those actually do in universe, other than give you another collectible to spend money on? Like if a Toa puts that on do legit get an IQ point increase?
Mask of Wisdom was Wairuha's mask, and it gives the effects of an Akaku, a Miru, and a Kaukau.
Just don't think about it. Canonically, when the Toa merge into Kaita, their mask powers merge too. So for instance when Lewa, Gali and Kopaka form Wairuha, their Silver Mask of Wisdom has the powers of Levitation, Water Breathing and X-Ray Vision. Even though by the time the Toa formed the Kaita, they already possessed Golden masks that had all six base powers. So technically their mask powers got downgraded when they merged.
Similarly, when Tahu, Onua and Pohatu formed Akamai while already possessing their Golden masks with six powers, their masks merged into the Gold Mask of Valor that only had three powers: Shielding, Strength and Speed.
It makes no sense. Further complicating matters is that the Mask of Wisdom looks like the Mask of Levitation in set form, in MNOG and in the unreleased PC game, but it was also released as a special edition chromed Mask of Shielding, which is technically the shape of the Mask of Valor. So both the Valor and Wisdom masks look like the Mask of Shielding, except the Mask of Wisdom also looks like the Mask of Levitation, and depending on the media, it can be either green, white or silver or even chrome silver.
You guys are dumb.
The real question is what kind of elemental powers they would have.
Like I imagine Akamai would be the power of fucking volcano eruptions and meteor showers, while Wairuha would have the power of blizzards and fucking thunderstorms!!
I think if they wanted to have that make more sense they should have made it where those masks of valor, wisdom, etc even if they did not have all the powers of a gold mask the powers they do have are instead more powerful. An exchange of versatility for power output. Say that, with exceptions like the mask of life, time, etc, a mask can only have so much power in it before it just breaks under the stress.
Also the names are switched around in that Akamai is taken from the Hawaiian word for Wisdom.
>There's far worse stuff that they let slip
ignore everyone else. They're technically right about Wairuha's mask being silver, but I'm guessing that's not what you're asking.
When a mask is silver, that simply means that it's in an unpowered form, or that it's not currently being worn. When the mask is put on, it'll shift color to match the armor of whoever is wearing it.
When the Toa Nuva lost their elemental powers to the Bohrok Kal, their Nuva masks became silver to represent them losing their powers.
Don't remember where I read it, but because he was Nuju's interpreter, he was privy to a lot of the Turaga secrets and it really weighed on him because it kept him isolated from the rest of the Matoran.
Nah man, I just remember some of the toys having silver masks being labeled as "masks of wisdom".
I thought that unworn masks were a duller gray than a flashy-looking silver, but it's likely that I just made that up.
There was only one Silver Mask of Wisdom in the story, the Kanohi Rua (not to be confused with Rau) worn by Wairuha. There were a bunch of Silver masks in different shapes available in mask packs, but they weren't given a story purpose, other than maybe representing unworn masks, which were stated to be gray in the books, but in the comics they were shiny silver.
Oh yeah there was a grey Hau on the Takanuva bike because it was Jaller's face and he died. Kinda weird way to pay tribute to your best friend but I guess he'd be fucking dead otherwise.
500th reply. I hate black people
Mask. Not face.
Fun thread gang.
It was a good time, nice job everyone. It's great to see something like Bionicle still get some love after all of this time.
im still butthurt on how much of waste was the G2 rebooth
>all those Bohrok Nuparu dismantled and turned into war machines
Your trips don't lie.
Yeah we should have more of these, just not to the point of forcing them. Bionicle threads happen in small bursts on any board, but pushing them too often leads to disinterest.
